In the UK it's pretty normal to see folks using the whole road when you can see clearly, Tobe fair dude was just throwing his wing about like a much smaller bike actually mildly impressive.
That Goldwing rider was obviously very experienced and skilled. At first glance to a youngster or inexperienced rider this may look a dodgy, but watch a few times and look closely. I reckon he knows the road pretty well and is in full control of his machine. There is nothing wrong with using all the available road when you can see, don't forget the guy in front of you has a better view than you. We have hundreds of roads twistier than Deals Gap in the UK. You all need some lessons in cornering. The Goldwing rider has obviously done and passed all his lessons.
I’m first to admit I know little about technique, help me out. What did the rider do that one would consider him an idiot. Been learning since 1967 and still need to be schooled.
I would not say that it was safe riding. He was keep cutting to the other side of the lane and hardly control Goldie at curves. But this lad tailing him was worst 😂😂
Was it because you couldn't keep up with poppy on a GL? He was having a great time and rode really well, I have had a similar time chasing Gold Wings, They can really go hard.. He also did not risk too much when he went over the double lines, had clear vision and didn't hang around..Surprise!!!
I have often experienced exactly such situations. But when I feel that my random leader is feeling pressured, and I don't even know him, I just stay back. Who of you does not know this feeling? Like: ... there's someone behind you, watching the way you drive and putting somehow pressure on you, albeit perhaps unintentionally. ... Just pull over, have a smoke, or check your oil level. No matter what, never try to put that pressure on people driving in front of you.
I'm 34 and have been riding since I was 11 years old. I have owned and ridden a large spectrum of bikes so watching a large +400kg bike holding a admirable pace through the twisties with no overzealous entries into corners and pulling on the following bike out of every bend. That rider is skilled. Following bike needs to focus on themselves not others
In Sweden they literally teach you to drive in that way when you take your license (in a less aggressive manner obviously), hold on the outside of the corner to get maximum visibility and IF there is no oncoming traffic you take the corner in as straight a line as possible, even crossing the line. I don't like to drive like that so I had to learn it to pass the course and then unlearn it after I got my license. I'm way more bothered by you chasing up to his tail every corner and then breaking hard like you are unable to judge speed.
@@derek96720 I think it's idiotic too that's why I don't do it anymore. Only reason I would consider it is if the road conditions are so bad you put yourself at risk when leaning the bike, but honestly at that point just lower the damn speed instead.

I had several advanced riding courses when I lived in the UK. The teachers were all motorcycle policemen and they REALLY knew a thing or two about two wheels. One of them said that a lot we had been taught to comply with Highway Code riding techniques had to be unlearnt. They taught us defensive riding, straight lining a roundabout (when it was safe) and a lot more that would otherwise have seen us fail on our 'normal' riding tests. Much of what we were taught is something I still use now that I live in the USA.
You are so right! I also took the British police advanced driving course and they teach you to do things that are not in the highway code. And like you, in the USA I apply the same skills I learnt from those superb copper drivers. Including using ALL the road, even across double yellow lines, when it is clear and safe to do so.
Just an old man on a goldwing.... He was a pretty decent Rider... And like most has a little bit of a problem making right turns.... When you get behind a good Rider on the twisties you'll. Crossing lines isn't my thing but this lad can clearly ride. I'd like to think I'm the person that can sit behind him and enjoy his skill rather than picking out things I'd do different.
I’m a Police motorcycle rider in the UK. The Wing rider could’ve just come out of the riding school as far as I’m concerned, smooth, making progress as he should. Following rider looked like he could barely keep up
Now that's the kind of policing I like. 😀That being said, ok, he's not abiding by the rules, that's true, but I've seen guys on bikes doing far worse without crossing any lines, except that of basic reasoning. Greetings from Belgium.

Goldwing literally followed at the same distance from the cruiser in front of him. Goldwing was also a dick by taking up the entire road during the stretches when the camera bike could have passed him. Driving that thing like a couch on ice.
Motorcycles don't brake as well as cars, and braking hard on a curve can cause you to lose control. If the guy on the Goldwing had had a problem, you might have taken an unexpected flight. There is nothing wrong with using all the available road when you can see, don't forget the guy in front of you has a better view than you. I have often experienced exactly such situations. But when I feel that my random leader is feeling pressured, and I don't even know him, I just stay back.
Who of you does not know this feeling?

I'm 34 and have been riding since I was 11 years old. I have owned and ridden a large spectrum of bikes so watching a large +400kg bike holding a admirable pace through the twisties with no overzealous entries into corners and pulling on the following bike out of every bend. That rider is skilled. Following bike needs to focus on themselves not others
How could you not notice?
23 years of riding and you clearly still have a lot to learn.
The guy on the Wing was looking all the way through the curves, he owned that. I'll bet he could outride you all day long
In Sweden they literally teach you to drive in that way when you take your license (in a less aggressive manner obviously), hold on the outside of the corner to get maximum visibility and IF there is no oncoming traffic you take the corner in as straight a line as possible, even crossing the line. I don't like to drive like that so I had to learn it to pass the course and then unlearn it after I got my license.
I'm way more bothered by you chasing up to his tail every corner and then breaking hard like you are unable to judge speed.
That's honestly idiotic. Crossing the centerline puts the bike at risk of losing traction, especially if entering or exiting a turn.

The title is in reference to the guy with the camera not understanding the capabilities of a Goldwing or the skill of the rider or how to look through a corner to see if crossing the yellow is a safe option for a better line in a corner. The title had nothing to do with the person on the actual Goldwing. It was referencing the idiot crowding him.
Goldwing literally followed at the same distance from the cruiser in front of him. Goldwing was also a dick by taking up the entire road during the stretches when the camera bike could have passed him. Driving that thing like a couch on ice.
