  • At the 2024 NHL Draft, the Vancouver Canucks had to wait until pick 93 to make their first selection. The question going in was what will the Canucks draft strategy be? Will they go with low-risk, low-reward players? Or will they swing for the fences in their later rounds with some high-end talent? After their first selection, it was clear that the allure of Vegas had gotten to the Canucks management, they were going all in! In this video, I recap the Canucks 2024 draft!
    0:34 Melvin Fernstrom
    1:48 Riley Patterson
    2:25 Anthony Romani
    3:27 Parker Alcos
    4:32 Basile Sansonnens

What are your thoughts on the Canucks selections? Who are you most excited about? Who do you believe has the best chance at becoming an NHLer?

@@jasongottfred6225 He was already 2nd best in the OHL and best in goals. He wanted to prove guys wrong after the 2023 draft and he sure did. Hopefully he can continue proving guys wrong in the NHL now. Great pick in the 6th round.

I questioned why the Canucks even had scouts with so few picks but have to hand it to them, they made the most of very little.

because you have scouts to scout players for whatever picks you have, what?

Very hyped about Ferström and Romani. Two super great offensive guys that could be some real monsters in the future. Real optimistic about the Alcos and Sansonnens too, given they make it to development camp. The Canucks d-core has been fantastic and I don't doubt that those two could learn and develop a lot.

Heres hoping the team works as hard on player development as they have on improving the BIG club and making the playoff run. Do individual assessments make a co-plan with players with clearly defined goals. Then provide the staffing or contractors to assist them in reaching them. Regular grading by the coaching staff and nudging if needed. Crucial side of the game that's always been lacking in most orgs.

Seems like they have invested more in player development since Rutherford took over. Abbotsford has a lot more resources now, including staff like the Sedins, Higgins, Johnson, etc.

I'll say one thing for this management group. Their previous 3rd round picks were Pettersson and Brzustewicz. I'm automatically hopeful for Fernstrom, and hope he improves his skating and kills it! Everyone seems to be raving about Romani, might be a steal. Unusually stoked for this Canucks draft class.

If Pettersson was still there we definitely would have taken him. The Pettersson pick showed that

I feel Canucks need a better scoring coach or assistant, but like what i see w the new guys though I have a funny feeling he wont be up w the NHL lvl yet like Ovi or top stars 4 a while.

If the Canucks had 1rst overall they would have taken Pettersson 😂. Scout goes “Alvin there’s this Pettersson kid” and Alvin interrupts and says “say no more, let’s put him at the top of the board”
