my older brother showed me this band when i was in middle school. he was murdered at 25 back in october. i know you're finally at peace. RIP Dan. and thanks for showing me the music that gets me through your loss..
Sorry for your loss of your brother. I lost mine on 11/1/21. He took his own life. Trust me when I say I feel your pain. We used to listen to this back when we were in high school in the late 90’s. I think more than likely introduced this song to him. Anyways, this whole album is great if you get a chance to listen. Songs like Devilboy and Rodrigo that didn’t get as much acclaim. The thought of my brother brought me here as well. Chin up and do the best you can to support your family. And may they support you as well. Fear not, there is an afterlife.

I am not sure why the labels refuse to promote mainstream rock, but they do, and they shall fade into the night because of it.
My best friend and I had a band and we did this song, Cumbersome, and My My live all the time, even when we were just an acoustic duo. We grew up with this shit.(I'm 47). He died last year. His voice was on par with Jason's...he sounded very close to him and was loud as fuck. Everytime we did any of them people were were rocked so hard that they would be a bit stunned, and then they'd give super applause for his vocals. It gives me joy that all you here on the comments dig 7M3 and other music of this era like we did/do. From what I've read it's not based on any personal experience of his. Might be based on a movie called River's Edge, which is itself based loosely on a real incident. Yeah, that last line though, "I shoulda done... something..." you feel his regret and guilt.
When the Seattle sound spread across the country and became mainstream the radio was filled with great songs from Alternative bands from coast to coast...as a child of the 60s I thought that rock had died in 1979 with the last great album of "the era"...Pink Floyds The Wall. why can't 7m3 come out with a nothing-but-2-guitars album. Every fantastic video of theirs online is just the lead singer and guitarist blasting raw, unbridled emotion through their instruments. I would pay upwards of 50 bucks to have them just blast out their greatest hits, and more, with just those two playing. Cumbersome, Water's Edge, Southwestern State, blue letter, subway tunnel microphone and others - with just those two - would be priceless and worth hundreds IMHO.
What I really like about this song is it covers a subject that not many song have ever covered and it does it with power and passion. You can almost hear the fear and pain in the singers voice.

Seven Mary Three... The band that it seems few know of.. and yet, everything I've ever heard by them is amazing. I specifically love Rodrigo and Devil Boy. But this one is amazing too.
I watched them at North Georgia College in Dahlonega Ga with my brother-in-law. It was amazing and of last things I got to do with him, as he died as a result of a heart condition the next year and died. Rip Russell, you were a brother and friend.
@@jonathanburrows9542 Was it 98 or 99 when they were there? I was at the very front and I was afraid of getting smashed into the metal rail, so I kept pushing back and bumping into the girl behind me. Some guy kept yelling 'Sing black winged bird' He said it at least 30 times throughout the show.
@@cragre28 It would have had to have been 98, because I withdrew after the first semester that year and was not there in 99. Honestly, I thought it was 97. I remember they had a band named Trinket open for them. They tried really hard, but were pretty awful and did not have a favorable response from the crowd. I remember the singer twirling his index finger in the air during one of the songs and all of the sorority girls mocking him for it.
moments when the bass guitar and drums play off one anothers action are great in this recording. also the general mood of purely woeful regret.. classic.
There is one feature of this song that is better than how it sums up the best of hard mid-90's Alternative rock, without having been a huge radio hit, and that's how this song isn't about love. How many songs tell a story that contains no trace of romance or bragging? These lyrics purely fit the emotions of the melody, and the rhythm gives emphasizes the urgency of the warning contained throughout. I bought this CD when it came out, and wasn't happy with it until I found this song. At first, I was upset that Cumbersome was the only one hit wonder song of this crappy CD, but then I heard this song, and I've never forgotten it.
born in the 90s? born before the 90s is the people that grew up in the 90s. are your people gen x also. don't forget soul asylum smashing pumpkins hole
Got to see them in the early 90's before they were known. They were at livestock festival in Zephyrhills Florida handing out cassette singles with two songs on them. I grabbed up as many as I could. God I hope I still have at least one laying in a box somewhere 🤞
Song about a true part of my life. I did do something and still got lied on about what happened. Guess it's true that once you mess up people automatically jump to their own version. I pray for them still. I know I am not righteous.
This reminds me an aweful lot of a song called "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Warrant. This song definately has a creepier feel and a more haunting video. Good stuff.
@@quagmiremusic6250 thats a dumb statement, if you have ever smoked a cig before, it gives a relaxing buzz and bit of a high and its even better when combining it with other stuff
Great songs are ones with functioning harmony b/n the vocals and instrumentals, and that tells are story. Whether that story is bittersweet or horrific it makes no difference, as long as there's a story. This has all that and thus is a Great song. 7 mary 3. The other great 90's band.
And her "killers" hide in plain sight. That's what makes this story so PRICELESS. Nothing is as it seems to whomever is being warned. Perfect way to wrap this up with a gorgeous bow. God bless My troops! Thank you for all of your dedication and hard work, for soooo many years. Thank you, especially, for making me one of your own. I feel SO PROUD to be in your 'club'. Seven Mary Three... The band that it seems few know of.. and yet, everything I've ever heard by them is amazing. I specifically love Rodrigo and Devil Boy. But this one is amazing too.
American Standard is a good record itself
Thanks to my dad this is my favourite song for sure
love the sound of the guitar in this song.
This is the song that can give a hardened gangsta nightmares and then some!
Can't stop listening to this song....best SMT song ever!!!!
Listening to Seven Mary Three reminds of writing guitar songs at 15 before they even hit the radio.
I watched them at North Georgia College in Dahlonega Ga with my brother-in-law. It was amazing and of last things I got to do with him, as he died as a result of a heart condition the next year and died. Rip Russell, you were a brother and friend.
I was there at that show! GEB! RHB!
I remember the singer twirling his index finger in the air during one of the songs and all of the sorority girls mocking him for it.
moments when the bass guitar and drums play off one anothers action are great in this recording. also the general mood of purely woeful regret.. classic.
Me too!! My step Dad bought me tickets to AC/DC FLY ON THE WALL!! I WAS 16!! HAD A GREAT TIME!! 51 NOW BUT STILL LOVE MY MUSIC!!!!
I used to listen to this song on repeat while playing Snood. I miss the 90s/early 2000s
This only have 6 million views is criminally sad.
At first, I was upset that Cumbersome was the only one hit wonder song of this crappy CD, but then I heard this song, and I've never forgotten it.
margarett was the best song from american standard
Jay Gour Love everything about this album. From the first song to the last.
Don't like My My?
mymy is awsome.
I hope you enjoyed a few of the others. Imo, about half of that album is legendary.
I’m overwhelmed with awareness and awakening with these songs now after what we know!!
Wish I was born in the early 90s. The music was amazing and I'm so happy my parents showed the music to me.
born in the 90s? born before the 90s is the people that grew up in the 90s. are your people gen x also. don't forget soul asylum smashing pumpkins hole
Miss those days
Live with no regrets! Great song..
Whatever happened to clean rock and roll like this
THIS ONES FOR YOU MY FRIEND.....R.I.P. Brother..This Aint no Hockey Game......lol.
✌️
engery never fizzles out 🖤☮️
Its to bad these guys didn't produce more .I love them
Got to see them in the early 90's before they were known.
They were at livestock festival in Zephyrhills Florida handing out cassette singles with two songs on them.
I grabbed up as many as I could. God I hope I still have at least one laying in a box somewhere 🤞
I went to the first live stock wanted to see kings x it rained all day turned into mud stock Bruce from new port Richey
This is my second Seven Mary Three song. I dig it.
opening guitar riff is just amazing!
Sounds too much like sanitarium by Metallica, but its good
amazingly boring
Song about a true part of my life. I did do something and still got lied on about what happened. Guess it's true that once you mess up people automatically jump to their own version. I pray for them still. I know I am not righteous.
This reminds me an aweful lot of a song called "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Warrant. This song definately has a creepier feel and a more haunting video. Good stuff.
🌻 I miss the 90s
I miss getting a half tank of gas, 12pack of beer and a pack of smokes for under $20
You shouldn't smoke. Bad for you.
@@omar10213245 bad for you, but i cant help but admit smokes make great company in solitude...
@@howiegaming9985 your heart and lungs beg to differ...
Just smoke pot, at least there's a point to it
@@quagmiremusic6250 thats a dumb statement, if you have ever smoked a cig before, it gives a relaxing buzz and bit of a high and its even better when combining it with other stuff
Love.
Such a simple song yet it's stuck with me all these years.
Great songs are ones with functioning harmony b/n the
vocals and instrumentals, and that tells are story. Whether
that story is bittersweet or horrific it makes no difference, as
long as there's a story. This has all that and thus is a Great
song.
7 mary 3. The other great 90's band.
Never ever thought anyone else even knew this song let alone liked it...awesome thanks people...
Dude is so intense. I had this CD back in the early 90's.
still just kick ass Rock and Roll
my first concert was third eye blind, jars of clay and seven Mary three
My favorite song off this album, I hit the repeat button quite a bit when I have the cd playing in my car
I really like this song
Definitely deserves more views❤❤❤
man music evolves in the next ten years we will miss todays music and tomorrows music will only be worse
I'd be willing to bet not many people are aware of the military being intel and secret service. I'll just stop right here and let that simmer. May God bless you all.. and bring awareness, as well.
