This song is EPIC, and to me it epitomizes the pain and disillusionment of modern life. Many songs from the 90s did such a great job of putting the mirror to society and showing the dark undercurrents that exist in our world: "Under The Bridge", "Jeremy", "Man In The Box", "Creep", "Sober", "All Apologies", "Runaway Train", "Everybody Hurts", "Fell On Black Days", the list goes on.
It was an awesome time when people could express through music in stead of burning down cities. A good protest song, or a good song expressing disillusionment is millions of times more effective than lawlessness. I love this band and love these songs!
I used to listen to this in my car, all of the time. My 6 year old son did not understand why he was singing about a "Chef In The Room".😁. That little boy is the father of 2 now. God, I feel old.
@@amandawilson9555 Pretty funny, huh? I remember when my youngest son was 3. He always wanted to hear that "Rat in a Cage" song by Smashing Pumpkins. Kids, huh?

On an electric, you can get away with some stuff that you can't on an acoustic. These guys were really fucking great. The whole album is awesome. I've listened to it many times over the years.
Your spot on. These guys never got as much credit as they deserved . Amazing players. I learned on my dad's old 12 string at about 7. That year I had my whole life ahead of me. I graduated from high school in 97, was ready to take on college, and back then great music and bands were in it's prime and twilight, including Days of The New. As far as today goes, at least the three original members minus Travis are bringing something new to the table with Blisskrieg, so that gives me hope.
Still haunting verses and such sadness to understand depression, and addictions, and life is just plain difficult! I hope Travis is ok wherever he is today!

Man, this album was so unique, it's hard to this day to put it into a defined genre. Hard ass lyrics, gorgeous down-tuned sound-layering, and the vocals... wow! I picked this album up, back when it came out, and the next 2 albums as they dropped. Years later, I'm at a party, and this dude picks up an acoustic and starts playing a perfect rendition of their work... I was in awe...jaw on the floor. We turned off the Mudvayne playlist we had running in the next room and let his sound ring out throughout the house... it was incredible, and while his playing was excellent in all respects... This album made that night happen the way it did. To this day, this band is seared into my memory. Today, I came home with the song "Weapon and the Wound" in mind... started whistling it as I walked through the door from work and minutes later was singing it out loud. Now, me, I'm culturally as much of a metalhead as one can get, but this album is metal AF. @"Marc Poirier" ... no... it's not. Just leave it at that.
I’m in my early 40s, and sadly, I just heard DOTN for the first time this past month (Thank you quarantine). I am now obsessed... and very saddened by the direction Travis’ life has gone. As long as he’s alive, though, there is still hope for him. Thoughts, prayers, and good vibes going out for Travis. He needs them all...
If you haven’t already (you probably have) get the Green and Red albums too, they are both amazing. Travis is one of the best songwriters I’ve ever known. I’ve met and hung out with him a few times, he’s always be so super cool. I hope he finds his way.
It's probably your age group, I. believe. You're just young enough to have missed it. Not sure. They also didn't become super popular like other bands at the time... But amazing nevertheless..
Travis will be back. Better than ever. Don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion. Dude has had issues yes. We all have. Support the ones who never give up. He will rise again. Believe that.
I love you, Travis. Never forget that we are gods trapped in the bodies of animals. All you have to do is keep breathing...just keep breathing and you've won the game.

Travis may have had his struggles but who in life doesn't. What a wonderful voice from back in the 90s when music was the best era!!!!
I was a freshman in high school and when this album came out-remember when they were on the cover of Teen People??-and this song stays with me till this day. The musicianship on this record is incredible and Travis’s voice is like no other’s. It’s a shame that the band had such a short time to shine; they were really something special.
I still remember being blown completely away by this awesome song (and the entire album in general) when I first heard it. I really thought that these guys were destined for greatness when they first came out... sadly though, time would prove me wrong.
I grew up around these guys in Indiana. There music captured that time at home and what growing up in Indiana felt like then in the 90's . Everytime I hear them on the radio or some show, not matter where I'm at or what I'm going I'm that 16year old pot head, rainbow gathering going hippie skater kid again.
I was a junior in high school going into my senior year.. Was higher than a kite doing meth smoking weed and fighting with my parents all the time and you guys came along and changed everything in my life. There are no words for me to say that could even begin to describe what this album did in my life... You guys carried me through the next 5 years of my life.... Love y'all
I don’t understand what this song is about, but still love the sounds. Something about a shelf that holds him and lets him know what to listen for.. idfk
One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands. This reminds me of being a kid going through all my older brothers cd's. I would sneak into his room and listen to his music when he wasn't home lol. Eventually he just let me borrow what i wanted anyway. One of my best memories:) Great music.
Bruh... I remember seeing these guys open for Jerry Cantrell and Metallica on a Fourth of July show... they all were just as good live as you could expect
This is one of those songs I love just as much as I did on the first listen! So freaking good. 🤘 The whole CD on endless repeat back in the day got me thru one of those hide in the closet (everybody's watching me) LSD trips. Something about Travis' voice just got in between my brain cells and stuck there. Hard to explain but it's almost like the remembering of a smell that makes it so vivid when I hear this song STILL so many years later.
I'm not sure how this art came to be I see the Lord knows the heart your soul is for his plan and the journey is yours to witness and testify for his purpose we are used good or bad it's what you learn from the lesson and road just my own experience the music takes u there God Bless 🙏
Just a simple Kentucky boy missing this wonderful amazing band in the beginning of 2022. The bad news - all of the money in the world can't bring this wonderful group of musicians back together. The good news - we can jam to their 90's stuff on RUclips whenever we want. Long live Days of the New.
Doug Prishpreed gotta remember he was teenager when he our this out, already had developed a drug issue.so yes it wasn't to hard to capture his exact mood..
This song is not about depression, its about being oppressed, and bullied and resisting what they are trying to shove in your face, this song has no depression in the message
One of the greatest bands in the 90s, plus I always loved acoustic music. I wish Travis would bring this band back, it would be great to see them live.
DADGBD (flat) A great song to learn... especially if you have enough souls to play the layered parts... Meth killed this act; one of the best acoustic rock gigs out there... for a while...

Days is literally the best...C'mon Travis. You got it...move it forward brother.
Awesome.
This whole album was Awesome !! This group should have got Top Recognition !!
Under rated.Draws me in.I love it.Old.But,index in.
65 here and still enjoying DOTN !!!
Good taste has no age
I just discovered this band and I love how he harmonizes with himself so much
days of the new i love this song
I was a junior in high school going into my senior year.. Was higher than a kite doing meth smoking weed and fighting with my parents all the time and you guys came along and changed everything in my life. There are no words for me to say that could even begin to describe what this album did in my life... You guys carried me through the next 5 years of my life.... Love y'all
Congrats on sobriety brother
No, YOU did it! I love hearing recovery stories. Bless you sir
I don’t understand what this song is about, but still love the sounds. Something about a shelf that holds him and lets him know what to listen for.. idfk
Such a great song.
One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite bands. This reminds me of being a kid going through all my older brothers cd's. I would sneak into his room and listen to his music when he wasn't home lol. Eventually he just let me borrow what i wanted anyway. One of my best memories:) Great music.
Great to have seen them live. Travis has had a rough life wish things were better for him. At the concert I saw him on dear Lord.
Bruh... I remember seeing these guys open for Jerry Cantrell and Metallica on a Fourth of July show... they all were just as good live as you could expect
Ain't listened to this song in years. Never forgot, just a random moment brought me here from days gone by. I miss these days
Every song on this album is good. That’s a rarity. 🙌♥️
This band should have been so much bigger than they were, nearly 20 years on and still 1 of my favourite bands.
I love you all talking about listening to this in 98 when you were 17. I was 37 and wore this sucker out
I'm not sure how this art came to be I see the Lord knows the heart your soul is for his plan and the journey is yours to witness and testify for his purpose we are used good or bad it's what you learn from the lesson and road just my own experience the music takes u there God Bless 🙏
Just a simple Kentucky boy missing this wonderful amazing band in the beginning of 2022. The bad news - all of the money in the world can't bring this wonderful group of musicians back together. The good news - we can jam to their 90's stuff on RUclips whenever we want. Long live Days of the New.
Awesome how they capture the mood of depression in this song perfectly.
I thought the same thing....I love to sing this song
Doug Prishpreed gotta remember he was teenager when he our this out, already had developed a drug issue.so yes it wasn't to hard to capture his exact mood..
Doug Prishpreed That was just the way of generation X

This song is not about depression, its about being oppressed, and bullied and resisting what they are trying to shove in your face, this song has no depression in the message
The guitars on this track are just incredible
I love the melody in this song.
Very underrated!!! Thats raw talent if u can't hear that ...... Turn it up alot more!!!!!
Travis is a great talent. Wishing you well my friend...
One of the greatest bands in the 90s, plus I always loved acoustic music. I wish Travis would bring this band back, it would be great to see them live.

Travis and Days of the new is back togather and touring
man, 8 years ago lol. That was a long time ago, but still listening to it.
I still can't believe that this voice came from a 17 year old 🤯.
Yeah man it's crazy when you think about it. It's a shame he didn't progress even more cause if he was like that at 17 you can only imagine
@@nylontusk1289 drug addiction
@@shawnm1472 Check out what he looks like in 2021. Stay off them drugs kids.
What?? Never knew that
@@tonyb313 Knew what?
Can't even believe they weren't bigger than they became. A Shame... Better than alot of popular bands from the 90's..
Sad but true my friend. Simply Outshined by bands like Soundgarden.. Pun intended.
They could have gone much further, but the camaraderie between members just wasn't there to support it.
Brings back memories , I only hold onto positive memories , so I always smile when I remember those days ........of the new
Oh, I see what you did there!
My top ten albums of the 90's! I just wish Travis Meeks kept his shit together! What a talent!
If Paul Walker and Chris Cornell could somehow conceive a child, it would have been this guy
Both gone now, RIP😒 Song kicks ass by the way!
SO GAY
Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain somehow had a weird love affair this dude would be their bastard child😂
Yo this is a weird ass comment bro wtf 😂
😅
I absolutely love Days of the New. They have been a favorite band of mine for a really long time.
DADGBD (flat) A great song to learn... especially if you have enough souls to play the layered parts... Meth killed this act; one of the best acoustic rock gigs out there... for a while...
Kashmir from LedZep has the same tuning if I'm not wrong
I believe it is... DADGAD
+Mark Rakemaker Ah maybe... I have to check that ^^
+Mark Rakemaker Yep it's in DADGAD ^^
Wasn’t a band to begin with. Travis was the entire creative force behind it and his solo shit is better than the band anyway.
Travis wish you would of show up at concert in 2001 Still love you music
The talent here is freaking UNBELIEVABLE and once again drugs destroy
These guys jam, that acoustic guitar sounds so clean, I love it every time I heard this song!!!!
THIS SONG KEPT ME ALIVE IN JAIL.
LONG, HARD STORY!!
Tell us
Glad you're out of it.
Same here.
Man this is still a kick ass song
Filled my shelves, blue eyes, lyrics and monster on my back. IDC did time with him, scared, emotional. He was passed around
Love this style. Acoustic with great bass.
The whole album is a HUGE MASTERPIECE 🎸😻
Was born in 99 but my dad raised me on this kind of music. Ugly kid joe, stp, ozzy, Alice in chains, pearl jam you name it. My truck is a 95 Silverado with factory speakers and a scosche system. I keep a skateboard in it as well as a nickel plated 45. I'm a walking time machine. And I love it
Miss hearing music from you Travis! Saw and met you a few yrs back! Excellent live! Fathers blessings in Jesus Christs mighty name!
THE BEST THROATY and electric acoustic EVER ❤
Kick ass band! Thank you
