- In 2003 Peyton Manning lead the Indianapolis Colts into Raymond James stadium for a showdown with the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Gruden lead Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With just over 3 minutes left the Colts found themselves down by 21 points. That's when The Sheriff took over.

Lol. Man, this is Manning doing what Manning does. I remember watching this game live with my Dad. He went to bed, thinking the game was over. I knocked on his door and told him the Colts had taken it to Overtime. He came back out and watched the rest of the game with me. A great memory
It's cool to see others have good memories with their dads while Manning is on their team. My dad and I are Denver fans, and during his time with them we would watch pretty much every game. I remember watching Denver set a field-goal record (I think it was 63 yards) and my dad was like "you're watching history right now". Always stuck with me. My dad and I both have Manning jerseys, and we used to wear them together while we watched the Broncos play, though unfortunately mine doesn't fit me anymore. Really good memories... Hell, even Wilson is giving me good memories. When Denver went against Kansas City the first time this year, we expected a blowout. The game wasn't on so I was watching some show with my brother while my dad watched a podcast covering the game. It was bad at first; it was like 20-0 KC, but then suddenly each update my dad gave was more and more positive and he seemed excited to tell me and my brother each time they scored a touchdown. I think that'll stick with me too, and even if Wilson isn't doing too hot right now, it's still nice to have a good memory associated with this hell of a season.
When Peyton Manning was playing football life was good. Lets just admit it.

I watched this game live. I remember starting my homework after the game got out of hand then becoming glued to the action in the last 4 minutes and found myself cheering for the Colts. This game made me a Manning fan. The years that followed with painful playoff blowouts with the Broncos vs. Colts made me appreciate Manning's skill. Little did I know at the time Manning would be the QB for my Broncos next Super Bowl victory.
I wouldn't trade the Broncos fan arch over the last 25 years with any other team in pro sports. 4 Super Bowls, 3 victories, Elway, Plummer, -Cutler- , Tebow, Manning. The 2010 Tebow year was the most fun I've ever had watching football. Tebow had an immeasurable impact on the game and it was his success that led to Manning choosing the Broncos in 2011. Now, with Russell Wilson (Jake Plummer 2.0) Broncos fans have a new hope.

That leaping call was BS, and I'm a Colts fan!!...lol But there was also a BS running into the kicker call against the Colts earlier in the OT period. Refs were calling garbage on both teams the whole night. You're absolutely right about the Bucs having missed chances to close it out
The leaping call is correct as the rule was written. They stated the rule of being behind the line and contacting someone either going up or down it's a penalty.

@@zerodawn09 not a colts fan. The rule is easy to read and understand. Correct application on that play. If he wants to jump he can either line up on the LOS or make sure to not contact any other player.
@@blakethornsbrough1528 Yes, that leaping call was technically correct, at that time, by the letter of the law. The NFL changed the rule the next year, so that if the "leaping" player makes contact on the way down, it wouldn't be a penalty.
if you watch the game winning field goal ( 23:08 ) , and you put the speed down to 0.25, you can see that the kick was actually going wide but took a deflection which led to it going in
I was at this game! It was Tony Dungy's birthday. We were beating them so bad half the fans left in the 3rd quarter! There were more people in the stand in OT than the 4th quarter! Gruden won the SB with them, then he ripped it apart!
Leaping call was BS but so was the last Onside kick call. Fair outcome I suppose.
Agreed,
That's usually how they do it. They make a trash call and make up for it with another one against the other team.
I agree but the thing is he was in leaping position and if he runs up like that and still makes contact on his way up it’s a flag. I don’t think he made contact tho
Dominic 29 right, only on way down did I see contact. Seems like a terrible call unless it’s indeed makeup for the earlier terrible call on the kickoff scrum.
he made contact on the way down, so by the rule it's leaping, though it's a dumb rule since he didn't gain an advantage, it's not the idea of the rule since he didn't use another player to catapult himself, but he did brush against another player coming down, so .. I guess it's the right call, but I would think they could call it that way on basically every field goal attempt.
Leaping call was great, he wasn't on the line is scrimmage at the snap so it's a penalty. Gotta be on the line.

@@jmurphy6011 The refs actually got the Golden Tate touchdown right. The optics aren't good, but technically it was a contested ball, which goes to the receiver. @@mattsmith2516 exactly my question.
Ref helped em out a little I think too
Not a Steelers game, then.
@@mattsmith2516 he want attention
Bucs fan here. I was at this game. This loss was painful. Funny, I had forgotten this was a Dungy v Gruden match up. It’s a painful memory. Old Bucs fans don’t get to celebrate big leads often but we had a big lead at halftime. It was a party near the Pirate ship but it ended in tears. Gotta give Dungy and Colts props for not giving up. That leaping penalty is still ridiculous. We felt like we were cheated by that call and giving Colts a second chance to win it.
Oh well, you guys would liked it if the table was turned. Great era.
It was indeed a penalty though. If a player lines up more than one yard off of the line, then he cannot come down on other players after he has leaped. That made it a personal foul.
Turns out the refs were just as bad then as they are now. I mean they muffed the 2nd onside kick too
You won the Super Bowl so everything worked out.
It was a ridiculous penalty, but it was called correctly... that's the messed up part..
Imma chiefs fan all day but when the colts had prime Manning , harrison, wayne, ed james, and stockly they was damn near unstoppable and Clark at TE ohmy goodness
Three legends: Payton, Al, & John. I think that's just so sweet!
Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison were one of the classiest QB/WR combo to ever play in the league.
Him and reggie too. Marvin and reggie basically have the same years for the career

Uh idk probably Tom and moss
@@Navheo he said classiest. tom might fit the bill but not moss. that dude wouldn't know class if a bus full of fifth graders ran over top of him. fyi, I like Moss. i don't think he's even a bad person. but classy?
Kurt Warner and Larry Fitzgerald
"Boom boom boom there's balls going everywhere" . . . Madden has to be the king of announcers!
Absolutely loved him. Enjoyed his work with Summerall until the latter began signs of ageing and the effects of being concussed repeatedly as a player.
Charlie Keyes Madden and Pat Summeral were a dynamic duo when it came to announcing for NFL on Sundays.
Your mom said that.
I'd still have to go with Pat Summeral
"The ball was in between the guys legs" wow
That leaping call was a bad call, but Manning was still the greatest QB I have ever seen play.
Marvin and Peyton were incredible together. Wish I could’ve seen them win a few more bowls together.
I miss the old ABC and CBS score display like these. You can actually see everything and they looked simple but nice.
looks good and does not look dated like a 90s game with huge score
I can appreciate the simplicity of the early 2000s growing up in it.
osu5inarow the current ones are clean and bright which i like and show the timeouts/possession but i get what you’re saying
I don't like it. To me it looks dated and you can't see every stat like time outs, downs, etc
@@tr258 You can clearly see the downs and they showed the time outs before each play. It's not like today where you can't tell the quarter, downs, or how many time outs someone has.
If you give up 21+ point in less than 5 minutes, you didn't get robbed. You left the keys in the ignition with a sign on the door that says, "Hey, the keys are in the ignition."
Exactly my thoughts
Lol
Franz Kafka fuckin nerd
@Franz Kafka Your comment has no likes as of right now, and it's been two weeks 😂
Franz Kafka You are a fucking dumbass with absolutely no logic.
The hits in this game are so much harder than they are in the modern NFL. It looks way more hard nose and dangerous. It’s awesome! The guys also look super tired too😂
I clicked on this expecting to see the colts VS the chiefs in the wild card in 2010 or some time close to there, but as a chiefs fan I’m relieved that Its the bucks vs colts😅

I remember that, Madden , Micheals. One of the best I've seen.

As insanely awesome as this comeback was, it is sadly tainted by an egregious penalty on the missed field goal.
My thought exactly
Terrible call on Simeon Rice
well there was a terrible call on the 2nd onside kick so everything comes out even
But by the wording of the rule it was a legitimate call. I think they had to change the language in the rule because of this.
@@protonjones54 and the roughing the punter call
I shed real tears when Payton left Indianapolis. It was truly the end of something great. I grew up down around John Mellencamp's way, the town next door. Now I live in his home town.
Lots of weird calls on both sides in the game. But, there's no denying the skill of Manning. Both Manning's to be precise and I'm a Steeler's fan. They were born for greatness
God the commentary is amazing, they need to bring in manning to commentate with Romo l, it would be gold
This was when Al Michaels wasn't phoning it in yet.
TyTimeIsAwesome Michaels is still fantastic what are you talking about??
@@joecoolberry911 I don't know...I feel these days he kind of just does and say whatever he wants because he knows he's not getting replaced any time soon. It's hard to explain, but the commentary doesn't have the same heart he put in it during the early years. Feel free to disagree.
YES
I can already imagine them calling plays, and breaking every down
Everyone talking about how the officiating favored the Colts is ignoring that bogus roughing the kicker call that gave the Bucs a first down and the onside call that clearly went to Indy. But hey don’t let the truth get in the way of your narrative. It was just a poorly officiated game against both sides.
But both of those examples are officiating that favoured the colts so what exactly is your point?
Mikey not giving the Colts an onside kick they desperately needed and giving the Bucs an extra possession in a sudden death overtime favored the Colts? How’s that one work?
811chelseafc My bad, my brain cells hadn’t woken up
The roughing the kicker was the correct call by rule. Not sure about the onside. I think the rule back then was whoever came out of the pile with the ball but that rule has been changed since then I believe. Still should have been colts ball.

That pass tho...... 8:25
They didn't give it enough love... It's the Play of the Game ....
I remember watching this game live and turned it off with 5 minutes remaining. That is why you ALWAYS watch to the end folks.
John madden and a young Peyton..can’t beat this nostalgia
Back when 58 yard field goals were almost impossible.
Not for good ol Seabass
@@fabiancorrea8279 legit he was the only person hitting long kicks in the early 00s
Now 30 yarders are near impossible.
