The Giants entering the game were reeling at 7-7 after a strong first half of the year, and looked like they were going nowhere, but then won this game and subsequently got hot to not only make the playoffs, but go all the way to capture their 4th Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots in February. Opposing teams couldn't double team both of them. There were just too many weapons on those 49er teams back in the day.
Problem with Taylor was his lack of drive. Jerry Rice said Taylor could have been just as good as him if he worked harder. Taylor had hall of fame talent and journeyman work ethic. Those hands though.
Being a 49ers fan in Chicago at the time, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen always reminded me of Rice and Taylor. Pippen and Taylor were both great players who didn't seem to quite get the respect they deserved, having had to play opposite the best ever. At least Pippen made it into the HoF on his own merit...

7:19 This has to be one of the best from a QB performance perspective. Randall Cunningham dodging a safety with eyes in the back of his head, and then proceeds to throw the ball about 70 yds through the air. (most of the rest are outstanding WR performances with YACs)
best one is at 7:23 Cunningham 50+ yd bomb into a huge wind. Ducks a sure safety by Bruce Smith and runs left to heave into the wind 50+ yds to Barnett.
Pretty much every one of these, the qb has a clean pocket. Randall Cunningham's one was ridiculous. In his own end zone, under duress, and he threw it 60 yards in the air running to his left and throwing right with a defender in his mouth. One of the greatest throws ever( and not even Cunningham's best play)
That one play was a great illustration of how amazing a player Randall was. About the only thing he didn't do on that play that we've seen him do elsewhere is punt the ball.
The thing about that play was the game was already over. The 2000 Ravens wasn't giving up a TD. The only thing left to watch was the AFC championship trophy being presented to the Ravens.

John Taylor is on here 3 times. Twice in one game and the third one Deion Sanders looked like he was out of his league trying to run him down. Pretty fucking impressive.
Not go mention, thst he came from Delaware State, and Jerry from Southern Mississippi Valley State, and they say smalll schools don't face good enough talent.

I like how the throw back 49ers you see John Taylor take two long passes back with stellar upfield blocking from Jerry Rice, the NFL doesn't do that anymore
@@matthewtaylor5425 was just talking about this yesterday with my father...such a damn shame...Cruuuz had a ton of talent and professionalism on and off the field. If it wasn't for his injury vs the Philadelphia Shegles he would have had a few more good years left in him. The 99 yard pass play by Eli Manning to Victor Cruz has always been one of my favorite...As a diehard NY Giants fan...watching Cruz torch the Jets on that December 24th 2011 Xmas Eve day has been and always will be one of the best plays in NY Giants history....That play helped motivate the team to make it to Superbowl XLVI and beat the Patriots for the 2nd time.
Without a doubt, John Taylor was one of the most underrated players in NFL history. Playing in the same era as Jerry Rice obviously had something to do with it.
In an interview, he said "that's how we drew it up. I was to go back into the end zone, Smith was supposed to come at me, I was supposed to duck..." with laughter afterwards.
4:54. Couple things here. #1, in the age of replay that would have been a TD as Moore(better known as Ahmad Rashad) was on top of the tacker as they slid into the endzone. #2, according to Conrad Dobler(Cardinals right guard on this play), the offense was pissed at Moore for not scoring because they had to go all the way to the other side of the field to complete the 1 yard.
Where in the video is this? I've also seen Emmitt Smith protect his quarterback by just destroying a linebacker running in for a sack. Those 90s players were awesome.
5:25.. I remember watching those Sunday morning highlight shows back in the early 70's with that announcer describing the action. His voice and descriptions are what really got me interested in football...even more than the actual games themselves. Used to love how he'd describe the players are "warriors of the gridiron" and such. Wish I could remember his name.
I miss the Rams old blue and white jersey at 4:54! They (like the Cowboys) rarely wore them; but they looked sweet; and I was kind of hoping they would go back to those when they recently moved back to L.A.!
@2:40 In 1995, Robert Brooks had a monster year. At the end of '94, the Packers lost, Sterling Sharpe, one of the all-time greats, to a career ending neck injury. Those were some big shoes to fill. 1995, one of my favorite Packer teams.
As a lielong 49ERS fan, when the RUclips algorithm placed this clip in my feed, I immediately checked to see if John Taylo'rs phenomenal Monday Night game against the rams was included in it. I was not disappointed. John Taylor still remains one of my favorite of all 49ERS players, partly because he has never been given the credit he deserves for being part of that great 49ERS era. When he was in the lineup, teams could not have their DB's focus too much on Jerry Rice. Not to mention, the 49ERS had Roger Craig, a man that was always a good threat to catch the ball out of the backfield. Great memories!!
9:55 in today's NFL there would've been no less than 8 flags thrown on that play. too bad they don't let them fight for it anymore, or else it might make modern passing records more amazing.
@@just-Banks Explain? okay, i'll give it a try. "in today's NFL there would've been no less than 8 flags thrown on that play." I'm saying that the NFL throws a lot of flags against aggressive defenders these days. Pretty self-explanatory. "too bad they don't let them fight for it anymore," Also self-explanatory. I want to see defenses be able to be a little more aggressive. "or else it might make modern passing records more amazing." Piggy-backing off the last point, since the defenses aren't allowed to be as aggressive as they once were, all of these new offensive records being shattered every year just aren't as respectable as they used to be. If the defense is hampered by bullshit rules that favor the offense, the offense is allowed to run roughshod over them. And that isn't fun to watch from a competition standpoint. Ergo, modern passing records just aren't as amazing as they should be.
I was at that Jacksonville Cleveland game 5:56 front row on the 10 yard line by the goal line he ran into to score when Gordon had that catch it was great
penaloza509 Nate Burleson always talks about being in practice and games with him and he was out of shape and still doing incredible things. It's truly a shame of so much wasted talent.
I remember the 2 90+ yard touchdowns montana threw too John Taylor and I believe it was back to back plays, I remember Taylor’s stat line after those 2 catches ( 2 rec for 198yds) it was so dang incredible!!
Taylor #82 of the 49ers might be the MOST Grossly CRIMINALLY underrated football players Wideouts in NFL HISTORY he is faster than Rice had just as good hands and great route runner too,
I was a college wide receiver for USC and played in the Rose Bowl Game on New's Year's day in 1977. Our line of scrimmage was at the one yard line and I caught a pass at the 20; I ran all the way for a touchdown which set the record for the longest pass play in college history of 99 yards.... ...but I also lie a great deal.

John Taylor is on here 3 times. Twice in one game and the third one Deion Sanders looked like he was out of his league trying to run him down. Pretty fucking impressive.
Rice's block was great but Taylor used all his blocks all 3 plays at an amazing level. Vision 99 (+10) on those plays.
People forget how good John Taylor was just because he played alongside Jerry Rice, but he was amazing.
Not go mention, thst he came from Delaware State, and Jerry from Southern Mississippi Valley State, and they say smalll schools don't face good enough talent.
I remember that Randall Cunningham play like it was yesterday. Randall Cunningham was the Mike Vick before Mike Vick
Tone Lee a bit slower but better arm
Much better than Vick
the desean jackson return was voted the greatest play in history, but for me, wasn't even the greatest play in eagles history. the cunningham endzone houdini, followed by textbook longbomb above easily beats it, what do you think>?
@@krell2130 I was at that game. I still don't know how Cunningham got away from Bruce Smith. Arguably, the greatest play I saw in person.
I remember seeing that and the John Taylor TDs
Who else thought the third guy was gonna be Mike Wallace too?
TheUncleshady me too

Yeah
I came to check if I should comment that
I guess I didn't realize how rare the 99-yard pass was. About as rare as mistaking Wes Welker for Rob Gronkowski.
John Taylor was one of the most underrated players in history
When you play beside Jerry Rice, that happens....
@doc brightside you sir are 100% right how many big catches did he have
The guy made clutch grabs.
I actually played against him in high school.
You‘re right, Doc. But that‘s what happens when you‘re actually playing in one of the greatest offenses of all time.
I easily mistake Welker and Gronk all the time too...
yeah - I mean they're so ... well, not really much alike are they.... nevermind. I heard that call live and was like "WHAT ?????"
BigWonka All white receivers look the same.
Ha!
Piteus W well gronk is a tight end not a receiver so
Zach Clanton I hate to break it to you but all TEs are receivers.
i like how mike wallace is in the first scoring a touch down with the stealers then in the next one scoring a td against them
Update: steelers* XD and wow 1K likes, thanks guys
Lonnie Easley and did it as a rival lol
Lonnie Easley I was about to say the same then I saw your comment 😂
Lonnie Easley true
Steelers* put some respect up on they name
John DeMartino shoulda known someone would be in here correcting my spelling smh
I like how the throw back 49ers you see John Taylor take two long passes back with stellar upfield blocking from Jerry Rice, the NFL doesn't do that anymore
"Stuns the bears by passing on 1st down"
The game has changed so much
Who else remembers when victor Cruz was a beast
that injury against the eagles was his career sad
I like when moose johnson said ya gotta get enough room here to punt the ball. 99 yards touchdown!! def top 5 greatest plays in Giants history.
And when he and Hakim Nicks were gone that was pretty much it for Eli
As a saints fan…. I do ⚜️
Without a doubt, John Taylor was one of the most underrated players in NFL history. Playing in the same era as Jerry Rice obviously had something to do with it.
He was a great receiver. He did something that Jerry Rice didn't: caught a Super Bowl game- winning TD catch.
You are absolutely, undeniably correct with that statement my friend...rate him among the best, for he was...
He out ran Prime Time too

John Taylor is so underrated he really needs more love
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE JOHN TAYLOR...
There, happy now
Criminally underrated! He has (3) 95+ catches in this compilation! 🐐
Amazing to see that there was a time when Wide Receivers would block for each other.
When they’re built like DBs that tends to happen, lol.
They still do
Love the old school clips! Cheers to the uploader!
7:30 How?!? How did Cunningham avoid that sack???
He was Vick before Vick
In an interview, he said "that's how we drew it up. I was to go back into the end zone, Smith was supposed to come at me, I was supposed to duck..." with laughter afterwards.
4:54. Couple things here. #1, in the age of replay that would have been a TD as Moore(better known as Ahmad Rashad) was on top of the tacker as they slid into the endzone. #2, according to Conrad Dobler(Cardinals right guard on this play), the offense was pissed at Moore for not scoring because they had to go all the way to the other side of the field to complete the 1 yard.
There's a real human named Dick Buttkiss? That's the best news ever.
Jake C. Thats what i said lol
I still laugh at his name but he is a good lb
Byshe Servance the best ever*
He has a middle name lol
He’s literally the bests LB every and you’ve never heard of him?
I love how the first two are Mike Wallace doing it for the Steelers, then on the Steelers.
Twice we see Jerry Rice racing down the field to block. Amazing player.
One of the greatest ever to play the game
The man who made me love football
When I was in Military school in the 60's, we had Scotty Glacken, who I personally witnessed throwing from end zone to end zone.
2:48 the way he said “goodbye” lol
Those blocks downfield by Jerry Rice though........GOAT!!!
Those two plays showed up just as I read your comment. Rice....he did everything.
Jerry didn’t give a shit who scored as long as they were wearing the same jersey as him
Where in the video is this? I've also seen Emmitt Smith protect his quarterback by just destroying a linebacker running in for a sack. Those 90s players were awesome.
@Cletus Anfernee Jackson awww. Poor, lady. Cry it out.
Oh how I miss those players who loved the game and layed it all on the line each and every game. What an era to grow up in!
Does anyone see how on both plays Jerry Rice had blocks on both plays for help.
I know right?! Those were great blocks on BOTH those plays. Those don't go for touchdowns without those blocks.
Yes. Dude did everything.
The blocking of Jerry Rice on those two TD's were fantastic. That effort reinforces his GOAT status to me.
2:24 That guy is my new favorite player name
What makes this video great is the way they show plays from so many different eras.
0:22 “past few weeks hasn’t been good for flaco”
Flaco: I’ll show you this pass
Flacco*
I remember the Jaworski-to-Quick 99 yarder. That was on the first play from scrimmage in overtime, which ended the game real quickly!
The beauty of the two SF Taylor TDs is Jerry Rice throwing the blocks to insure the touchdowns.
2:15 Even more amazing than the play is the fact they were able to shoehorn a football field into Wrigley Field.
2:48 how long has this dude been announcing for ??
That Cunningham play was insane! 7:26

St. Louis Cardinals receiver Bobby Moore is currently named Ahmad Rashad.
They wear them now
Imagine the fantasy points...
Inflation of course
@2:40 In 1995, Robert Brooks had a monster year. At the end of '94, the Packers lost, Sterling Sharpe, one of the all-time greats, to a career ending neck injury. Those were some big shoes to fill. 1995, one of my favorite Packer teams.
I tell you I really miss the old NFL Films narrated by John Facenda I really do.
Wow that Randall Cunningham play was jaw dropping
I saw that play live on TV (1990, if I remember correctly), and it's quite possibly the most amazing single play I've ever seen.
@@larrycopeland2413😮Bruce Smith couldn't believe he missed him..
Jerry Rice blocking was immaculate
Unforgettable. Two 90+ yard catch and run touchdowns in one game!
At 8:35 "Can't throw it longer than that unless you're in the CFL!"
Love that Chris Berman would occasionally give a shout out to Canadian football.

Those are some great football plays! Love the video!
4:38 "This is very weird game" Watching Joe Montana & the 49ers back in the 80's was always a little weird. Fabulous weird.

penaloza509 its hard man its fuckin hard but i would for millions of dollars lol
Josh Gordon along with Justin Blackmon may be the biggest waste of WR talent in league history. Both guys could have been superstars.

Too bad he can never play in the NFL again. Such a great player
8:35 oh man i miss the old sport center
I remember the 2 90+ yard touchdowns montana threw too John Taylor and I believe it was back to back plays, I remember Taylor’s stat line after those 2 catches ( 2 rec for 198yds) it was so dang incredible!!
Your math is wrong bruh.
That receiver has 17 fantasy points in one play
Browns have highlights?!
TFG Luckz yeah they do but i was surprised they have 4 95+ on pass play
That was the year they weren't that bad
Browns don’t always have good plays
But when they do it’s 90+ yards
When you realize that the first two catches shown in this video we’re both caught by Mike Walles
Taylor #82 of the 49ers might be the MOST Grossly CRIMINALLY underrated football players Wideouts in NFL HISTORY he is faster than Rice had just as good hands and great route runner too,
Tony Williams And was a great punt returner.
Those blocks by Jerry though. So on point in that game
I was a college wide receiver for USC and played in the Rose Bowl Game on New's Year's day in 1977. Our line of scrimmage was at the one yard line and I caught a pass at the 20; I ran all the way for a touchdown which set the record for the longest pass play in college history of 99 yards....
