Hey bud what are the symptoms to have to replace this sensor and I’m looking at mine and I have one red and I looks like it has wires to it and one gray does that mean I have two sensors and I’m looking on yours as you’re doing it and I don’t see that second one on yours what’s going on there reply would be nice company truck one man one truck one show and it won’t go no power when taking off
Thanks so I can eliminate that Keep up the videos because I got to keep my Ford ranger going thank you
So what you’re saying if that sensors reading wrong it could throw off the timing and causes lack of of power no smoke comes out Like I was told it would if the timing was off and I got one garage telling me $1700 to replace the timing belt or I need a new motor can’t believe that can’t afford that I just hope the guy when he had the computer on it messing with my time and he didn’t try to set himself up a job for a later date you know what I mean
5 Stars!! 2 Thumbs up!!
It's so refreshing to get an instructional video as thorough as this. Most people will skip the small details (either verbally, with the video recording, or both), assuming it's common sense and "goes without saying," but thats never going to be the case for 100% of your audience, hence the reason they are watching an instructional video. Although "I" only needed to confirm that my leaking sensor was in deed the temperature sending sensor(as there are 2 sensors side by side and I didn't know which was which), there will be several others who need this video for other sections or the video in it's entirety. Fantastic job 1A AUTO PARTS. I will definitely be subscribing and will look here FIRST in the future in hopes of a video that covers my next mechanical issue in which I need assistance in solving. Keep up this same, perfect structure and method to your instructional videos. I've watched tens if not over a hundred mechanically instructional videos through the years and I rate this one #1 by far. Thank you and again, fantastic job on your thorough-ism.
Really well done video, The best I have seen so far, very thorough! Thanks for making it simple for a rookie! I wish I had seen this the first time I did this. Took me days the first time I was on my own!

GREAT video. Thank you for posting. I put it to use just 2 weeks ago.
Mine catastrophically failed at the gas station but I received the trouble code which pointed directly to this faulty switch. I had a sudden crank, no-start condition and observed (and smelled) fuel coming out of the exhaust while cranking. It started after about 2 minutes of cranking (saving a tow) but it ran rough and I got it right home. Note that there are rectangular and round electrical connectors and you want to be sure to match yours up. The bad switch was reading in MOhms (Mega) when it should have been KOhms.
Thank you! Works for a 2001 4.0 explorer, and saved me a few 100 bucks
Just FYI I didn’t need to remove the upper radiator hose off the thermostat housing on a 2010 ranger 4.0. I just took the 3 bolts off and wiggled out the housing with the hose attached.
Thanks for this in-depth how-to video!
Thanks for the video not as bad as I expected because another how to video here says to pull the intake to get to the sensor. That's something I'm not confident in doing on the gravel drive here. If I had a garage I wouldn't have as much hesitation to attempt that.
+Michael Fitzgerald Thank you for your positive feedback!

You might want to reassess your tools needed list. I remember removing parts off my '99 Explorer while following your video and I know I needed more than what you listed. The only thing I can remember at the moment is the bolts holding the plastic protector under the radiator needed a 10 mm socket. I recall needing a 8mm and a 13, jjust not where.
How many gallons of coolant are usually required for this job?
What about the 4 cylinder ford ranger location of the coolant temperature sensor?
Thanks! Also helps to put some silicon spray or other type of lube that evaporates to help squeeze the sensor out. Don't forget to replace the gasket if you replace the thermostat.
Question: when it comes to the final step of bleeding the coolant. What do I do if my blower fan ONLY blows/responds when set on level 4? Just purchased the truck and nothing blows out of settings 1-3. Will that affect the bleeding process?
Thank you!
I have a 2006 ranger 4.0 and just noticed that there are two sensors. Are they the both same sensor?
No, here is what I found for the 4.0L ranger, mine is a 2002. Ford part numbers for each (confirm via your own research):
3L8Z-12A648-A : ECM Sensor (the one in this video)
3F1Z-10884-AA : Gauge Cluster Sender
Great video! Trying to get my thermostat housing off and the bolt in the back just keeps spinning. What do yall recommend?
Dang it, should have watched this video first before working on the thermostat housing... Great Video!!!!

Can you show a video on changing the ac pressure switch on a 2014 Jeep wrangler 3.6 and location Thanks
Can you please tell us where the temperature sensor is located in a Ford Ranger 2.3L 2003
My 09 4.0 Ranger shows that temp sensor but has no problems. Will wait and see maybe just a dirty connector on sensor.
I had to replace the entire water outlet because it failed along the plastic weld, and let me tell you, THAT was a pain in the rear.
Are those two sensors identical ?
it that sensor for the gauge or the idle speed motor a lot of engines have two coolant temperature sensors
Do you have a video on changing a temperature sensor on a 2001 Ford Expedition V-8?
I watch just about all of your videos which helped me save thousands of dollars, not to mention downtime.
Awesome video. Thanks so much.
+Neil Williams Thank you for watching. Unfortunately, we do not have a video for your application. We will keep this in mind for future repairs. www.1AAuto.com?RUclips&CTA%20Comment& 866-403-3393
My temperature gauge doesn't move do you think I should do this process
This video was very helpful and I appreciate it very much! Would you guys know where the sensor grounds out however? I hear that my problem is a little higher upstream.
Would you say this is an accurate time frame in which it took you to do this job? Or, did you stop the video for any of it? Reason I'm asking is I want to see how much labor my mechanic charges me to do this. My engine light came on on my 09 ranger xlt. My OBD scanner says "Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temp Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature). There's water leaking around the area of right front tire a little in and behind the front tire. Should I have it towed or can I drive it 12 miles to my mechanic? The radiator overflow is at the fill line.
is this the same for 4.0 v6 manual transmission?
My Ranger has a second sensor right next to that one. What is that other sensor? Is that just another coolant temp sensor? Also, do you know what size o-rings go on those sensors?
I have a 1990 ranger with the 4.0 and I bypassed the heater core because it was leaking and now my temp sensor doesn't work at all, any ideas?
Can you change the coolant temperature sensor without draining the coolant, or will that just make a mess? Also, do you have to remove the thermostat housing cover to get to the coolant temp sensor?
Did you figure this out?
It would be more of a pain if you tried it this way, given the fact that you have to remove the upper rad hose.. yes it will make a mess 😂
Not sure if you answer questions on your videos but I figure it’s worth a try. I drive a 2008 ford ranger XLT with the 4.0. The temperature gauge got really hot last night while idling but never shot any fluid anywhere and then this morning I figured I’d replace the thermostat as shown in this video but I ran my truck to go get the parts and came back home and let it sit at an idle watching the gauge for just over 10 minutes and it never got hot. However the fuel gauge did go from just under a 1/4 of a tank to E in those 10 minutes but once I shut it off and ran back to O’Reillys and came back the gauge had fixed and the gas light had gone off and the gauge was going back up to what it was before. Any ideas on what I should do?
Ask if the Diesel engine ford ranger 2008 have temperature sensor too
Is this necessary as preventative maintenance ? I’ll be replacing coolant and thermostat anyway
Ok so i just took my engine cover off and did it.
No draining, no mess (performed the job cold)
I'm doing this on an 08 Ranger Sport 4.0 SOHC and the sensor clip is located on the opposite side. Quite a pain since you can't move anything to get better access.
I need seven 13mm sockets? I only got two.
Are the 2 censors the same part ? On a o5 ranger 4 ltr
Do you know everest the temperature sensor is on a f150 5,4L 2006 3v
We're
Would this make the temp go up and down as well as when temp drops rpms rise and when it shoots up to hot again rpms drop this happens while I'm driving
Thaks for this. Garage wanted 1000 turned out to ba an O ring on the sensor. 50 cents later.
+digg are We are happy we could help!
thanks a lot .. a have a question .. is the coolant temperature sensor on 2011 ford explorer the same sensor on ford victoria 2007 to 2011 ??
Does anyone know if the temp sending sensor right next comes out with the same process?
If this sensor is bad will it mess with my power give me slow starts low engine power on Accelerating then smooth out later
+Utahjonny Montana If this part fails it can send a faulty temperature signal to the computer, thus causing multiple issues such as fuel economy, timing calculations etc.
Is a coolant flush necessary if you only intend to replace the sensor?
Did you figure this out?
Any video for Mustang 6cyl 2006 ?
is this the same for a 2001 Ford explorer sport with same engine . because what I read says pull intake . mine has very little room above the sensor. thx for help
none of them have any room above the sensor. i was doing the whole thermostat mount so i was able to move it around for the assembly.
I have a 2004 ford ranger 3.0L...I read somewhere that there's 2 coolant sensors?
Yes there is one right next to your spark plugs
My temp sensor clip refuses to go in. I’ve tried literally everything and it just will not go into the slot.
5:53, what can I use as an alternative to the clip? Clip went flying and I can't get a rude to auto parts store. Use wire ?
get one at junk yard
@@williamdaniels6943 see the part where it stated dont have a ride? Had someone go to auto zone or o'Reilly and bring to me.
I have 1996 ranger xlt is the censor in the same place? Thanks
i’m wondering the same
How on gods green Earth did the clip go in so easy. I literally took the housing my CTS sensor sits in off of the engine head to make it easier and i cannot get it to slide in no matter wtf i do!
+Michael Johnson Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
Is this essentially the same for a 3.0 L ?
+Volusia-ev This procedure might be different for your application. We do not currently have a how-to video for this engine size. Thank you for asking! 1AAuto.com
Does this sensor fit Ford escape 2010 V4 xlt 2.5l
Do you guys have a video for a cylinder head temperature sensor CHT? 2.3L models use this instead, wish I knew that before I started digging in haha
EDIT: 2.3L models 2001 and later
+Schvany's Epitome We currently do not have an auto repair video that covers this particular repair. We will keep this request in mind in the event that we need to make this repair in the future. 1aauto.com
If my temp sensor is bad would this cause my truck not to start at times mostly on hotter days? Every so often my 02 ranger wont start, turns over but wont fire up. I wait a few hours and try again and it starts and runs fine. Already replaced the camshaft position sensor. Thanks
+M. Hill If the sensor is reading too high of temperature when compared to the ambient air temperature sensor when first started then the computer would see it as a problem and turn on the check engine light an go into failure management mode and use a known good reading. The sensor will not cause a no start.
Ok thanks I'll keep checking things.
My prob on an 02 3.0L too. intermittant start after a stop over. it is worth a try.
How can I get part numbers
I have a 2000 focus i need to find the location of the second temp sensor!! I changed the one by the alternater. I need the one that opens the t-stat.. I cant find it anywhere!! Please help me it caused me to have no heat!!

So if the coolant temperature sensor is the grey one what is the red one for next to it ?
"Temperature Unit"
The temp gauge in your dash.
My truck doesn't have that red one
i change my sensor on the temperature and it still aint marking on the dash borad is there anything else i can do ?
If the gauge isn't reading correctly it might be a bad gauge. 1aauto.com
No it might be the unit next to it. One is to send signal to the pcm and the other to the Guatemalan
I really need help I have a 2005 ford ranger that is hard to start, sometimes it when it starts on the road it squeals and takes off really fast. It also sometimes after being turned off for a few minutes or just starting down the road it only reach 27 mph and makes a repeated noise until we move the gear shift very slightly but leave it on the D and it goes normal. We have had it on machines and it shows a coolant temp sensor but then we replaced it and it still showed coolant temp sensor on the multimeter car scanner and also harder to start. The new sensor from Advance Auto Parts was also much harder to put on than the original one and had a different number on the sensor. Any suggestions! We have changed the fuel pump, inertia switch, and the throttle position sensor as well.

Hello, where is located the sensor of temperature on a Ford Focus 1.6 benzin / 2004? Thank you.
4.0l ohv is different
Those are called jesus clips when they fly off only he knows where they went
+Tooter Turtle Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
its not the same for the ford ranger 02 3.0
Chuck Norris do you no where it is
Over complicated just take the throttle bottle and intake manifold then you can get to the sensor
What are the symptoms for the reason that I’d be replacing this I have low power on takeoff did all the usual for the air intake in the idle in the yada yada and change the plugs still no power on takeoff
Did you figure it out? Having same problem with Mazda b3000
