How to Test and Replace an Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor P0115 / P0125
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 28 окт 2014
- In this video I go through the steps on determining why you may have code p0115 and/or p0125.. Ultimately, it comes down to two things, the harness connector or the coolant temperature sensor itself. A simple diagnosis that any one can perform at home. This was performed on a 1997 Nissan Maxima. Check with your vehicle's repair manual for testing parameters.

6 YEAR'S later and your video is still helping people out good video bro
YUP!
Just writing to say thanks. You helped me get my temperature gauge working again. This was on my 1990 Volvo 760 GLE with the B280F Peugeot V6. (I have been told that this engine was used in the Delorean). Following your diagnostic steps, on my sensor connector, one pin read 12V and the other 0. Then I switching to OHMS, the other pin read open circuit. So I reasoned that there must be an open in a ground connection somewhere. But instead of trying to fine it , I just ran a new wire from it to ground, measured the voltage again and it dropped from 12V to 5v . I started the car and the gauge now works.
Awesome! Glad to help.
Carsntoys you are the best. Thank you for your time. You blessed me.Blessings to you.
Thank you for explaining this simple circuit design so simply.
Thanks for explaining this simply. The phrase "if your not sure" is perfect.
Because that's why we are all here.
Thanks for breaking things down simply.
I've never used a multi-year, but after this video,
I may go out and order one!
Thank you. Appreciate the feedback.
I have a 2004 VW Beetle. A couple of days ago it starting acting strange. The engine wouldn't run right and the air conditioning wouldn't work. I suspected it was the coolant temperature sensor. This morning while the engine was cool I tested the resistance across the 2 ECM pins which should have read at the most 2.5 kilohms. It read 416 kilohms. I replace the sensor and now it runs like it's supposed to. I am so thankful.
Thank you very much! Your video is easily understandable and very rich in technical information. Awesome work, dude! Greetins from Brazil!
This is probably the best how to car guide on RUclips my guy
Thank you for this vid. I just changed my temp sensor using this vid. Everything from the multi meter was spot on
Thank you very much! You shared a piece of gold information quickly in your video. You suggested doing a google image search for the location of something on your engine.
I was sifting through videos trying to find temperature sensor on 97 outback. Less than 5 minutes after watching part of your video and I'd found it on google images and located it on my motor.
Thanks again!
Glad to help!

Good video! I now have a better understanding of multi- meters too
Thank you for the accurate information. I own the Infiniti shop manual and your information is much more informative. I think the manual is intended to meet minimum requirements so that people have to go to the dealer--just my impression and not based on facts but on logical deduction.
Just fantastic. Thank you so much! Super helpful.
How to chek the sensor having 4 pins.

Very good information here! I'm getting a P0125 on a 2001 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner and getting ready to drop $15-$30 on one of these that is likely bad, might not even be broken. Thx!
Your explain is very clear, thanks

Thank you.......saved me lost of time..
Hello CarsNToys
I want to say great video and I was able to locate my temperature sensor on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.7 for I am getting a ‘gauge not working’ on my gauge-digital dash and temperature gauge does not move. I had replaced the temp sensor and I still get the ‘gauge not working’ error and my temp gauge does not move ( I let the vehicle idle for 15 minutes).
I did the following test with my voltmeter:
1. Voltage to temperature connector as indicated in your video and I get 4.9 volts.
2. Tested the OHMS continuity on connector and it passes by giving audible sound.
3. I ran the Kilo-OHMS test on the old and new temp sensor and I get 5.0 on old sensor and 4.5 on the new temperature sensor.
4. I brought a new temp connector, which I had not replaced yet because the voltage test to the original connector works showing 4.9 volts.
5. My electric fan turns on when the engine is idling and when the a/c comes on.
Any ideas on how to test this ‘‘gauge not working’ on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
Thanks,
So thorough great visuals best RUclips explanation period. Thanks
+Mike Mike Thank you!
Good vid and sensibly presented! Many thanks.

Good job on the video, thanks.
Excellent video and explanations!
very good instruction...I'm getting 00.0 across the board. it doesn't matter which way I put the probes. There is probably more wrong with this vehicle than just a sensor, but training and learning never hurt anybody.
You make this test so easy,!!!! thanks for your video,
excelent video.thanks🇮🇹🇮🇹
I just subscribed after watching this video. Very useful and insightful information. Thank you!

THANK YOU MY MAN!!!
Cool, thanks for the info!
I've replaced the thermostat and water pump on my 1995 Nissan pickup, and still getting anomalous water temperature readings.
Thank you very much bro
Verry helpful, thank you.
Glad to help
very informative video thank you so much
Thank you for sharing, very useful content, and you made it very easy to apply for novice like me☺👍.

Thank you sir,
Excellent information and well presented.Very clear instruction Well done. I have big hopes that replacing my ECT(Which failed the ohms test) will cure my problems.
If not then its a new MAF!
+malcolm grey Glad to help! Cheers
thank you
You state there can only be two possiblities. You could very easily have a break in your wiring at any point on the harness. Two wires twisted (short to power or ground) you could also have a dead circuit in the pcm itself. But 8/10 times, you are absolutely correct.
Also i mean no offense, this is a great video!
good video, well oriented! thanks for sharing
+richard urieric Glad to help
The thermostat in question is called a "fail-safe" thermostat meaning that when it fails, if fails in the open position. If you look at the top you will see where the carriage containing the pellet has locked itself in a notch on the body to keep it open.
Thanks a lot my friend , now I can find out the problem in my car...
Welcome
very explanatory and helpful. thanks.
Glad to help

Glad to help! Thank you.
By far the most helpful video on RUclips or anywhere. Sound, picture detail and simplicity of explanation 10/10/10. Saved me from doing a lot of work that still wouldn't have fixed my crank but no start problem on my 99 Suburban. Thanks so much.
+Tonya B Thanks, Tonya. Start with basics - if the vehicle cranks check for spark and fuel.
Really good video, keep up the good work.
Thanks. Appreciate it.
Very Good info. even after 4 1/2 years. I changed my sensor and the temp guage moved a little, so I know something wrong. It is a new sensor But now I will do the tests that you suggested. Appreciate that.
Good stuff! Glad to help.
Great video. I learned and I'm going to test it myself.
