The clams post reminded me of this dream I had when I was 4. I was being chased through a hallway by a bunch of clams. I turned into a room where my mom was sitting on the bed while talking on the phone. I was trying to get her attention so that she could lift me onto the bed (I was four and couldn’t get on the bed myself) so that I’d be safe from the clams, but she was so preoccupied on the phone that she didn’t notice the clams filtering into the room.
Also, the number of times that kids have been confused about my gender, especially when I work at a sailing camp in the summer

I’ve literally had a very similar dream. For me I was playing with some kids around a tree when suddenly they ran away and I looked up and a spider was crawling down towards me, and when I looked back at the ground, there was a giant lizard hissing at me. So I looked over to the side where my mom was sitting at a table with some relatives during a family gathering, and called out for help, but she waved me off and kept talking to them. What the fuck does this dream mean?

The bit about them swimming actually refers to scallops (just like on SpongeBob SquarePants), but true clams do indeed move, usually by using their muscular foot to dig themselves into the sediment of the seafloor. Oysters and mussels, on the other hand, are more or less sedentary for their entire adult lives.

Oh damn, this video found its way into my recommended, the sheer amount on whiplash I got when I saw my own post on screen, not only that, it's my infamous clam post. This is from 2 years ago. From what a few Google searches and a Reddit post tell me, depends on the clam.
Some clams spit their gametes into the water and let fecundation happen there. In other clams, the males release the sperm into the water and the females suck it up, incubating the eggs into their bodies.
And after the second method, some female river clams such as the freshwater mussel grow a lure to draw fish near them and spray larvae on their gills so the fish spreads them up and down the river like pollen.
