My mom would always deconstruct my siblings' and my experimental story telling and world building to point out elements that could cary problematic themes (such as "You're alien robot species always wears masks, you might send the message that wearing masks makes you less human and then your fans will all be anti-maskers.")
And while that is definitely an important thing to consider while story writing, we were barely preteens just trying to learn how to string two lore elements together. Hearing that so often and so early made me terrified to write anything at all for a while out of fear that I might encourage racism or sexism or something (to my non-existent audience).
Okay but also a masked alien robot species is cool and therefore people might wear masks to be like their favorite character. So like you can argue just about anything for a hypothetical audience and it’s not very productive at a stage where you have no real audience
this late, but also like context matters more than anything. There's a difference between robot alien species that always wears masks because it's how they show personalization in a otherwise uniform and standardized body and robot alien species that always wears masks because it's a means to distinguish if they boy or girl robot. Robots wouldn't likely understand gender the same way humans do and including that detail without some kind of explanation beyond that is just weirdly imposing a binary for no reason
I know I'm a whole year late, but such conclusions feel forced. Like, in a same degree as "allowing kids to learn about different sexualities will make them gay". For a person to read about robot aliens and connect it to IRL antimask movement, this person would need to _already_ have a belief regarding that movement, or at least some sort of emotional fixation on that topic. And if a person does have a belief or fixation, they will seek "proofs" everywhere, and it's not other people's job to worry about those fixations, let alone change their own lives to accommodate for those. A crazy enough person will find an agenda in your work no matter how much you try to avoid it, but it's because they're crazy, not because said agenda is actually present in said work - most of the times it isn't. So while it is important to not let your writing be morally incorrect or just outright hateful, overthinking and trying to please everyone at once does more bad than good.
P.S.: There's a saying in my native language that, in a literal/word-to-word translation, goes like this: "What aches a person is what they're speaking about". Its meaning is exactly about this - people will often interpret things according to what bothers them most in the moment, not to the actual meaning of things that are being interpreted.

The post with "he/she/they have the personality of a wet mop" reminded me that, at some point at least a year ago in my current DnD campaign, our party was dealing with somebody in Waterdeep that none of us liked, and my character (A Bard/Warlock) insulted them by saying they "have the charisma of a wet sock". I came up with it on the spot and it is still my favorite insult I've used in a campaign.
