Most of us have experienced the feeling of being bloated, when your tummy is stretched, puffy and uncomfortable. It often happens after a big weekend or over a festive season. But for some people, bloating is more than an occasional inconvenience.

If your stomach or tummy often feels bloated, it could be due to:
EXCESS WIND:
Cut down on foods known to cause wind and bloating, such as:
• Beans
• Onions
• Broccoli
• Cabbage
• Sprouts
• Cauliflower
But make sure you still eat five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

CONSTIPATION:
If you get constipation, take steps to prevent it with a fibre-rich diet, drinking lots of fluids and taking regular exercise. Even a 20-30 minute brisk walk four times a week can improve your bowel function.

SWALLOWING AIR:
Try not to swallow too much air. Don't talk and eat at the same time, sit down to eat (sitting upright and not slumped over), reduce the amount of fizzy drinks you consume, stop chewing gum and chew with your mouth closed so that you're not taking in excess air.
FOOD INTOLERANCE
Food intolerance can lead to bloating when:
• Your bowel doesn't empty properly
• The food causes gas to be trapped
• Too much gas is produced as a reaction to the food
The main offenders are wheat or gluten and dairy products. The best approach if you have a food intolerance is to eat less of the culprit food or cut it out completely.
Keep a food diary for a couple of weeks, noting everything that you eat and drink and when bloating troubles you most. But don't get rid of food groups long-term without advice from your GP.

COELIAC DISEASE:
Coeliac disease is a common digestive condition where your intestine can't absorb gluten found in wheat, barley and rye.
Apart from bloating, if you have Coeliac disease, eating foods containing gluten can also trigger diarrhoea, abdominal pain and fatigue.
See your GP for a blood test if you suspect you may have Coeliac disease.
There is no cure for Coeliac disease but, once the condition has been diagnosed, switching to a gluten-free diet should help.

IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME:
People with irritable bowel syndrome often complain of bloating, especially in the evening.

Maggie C i finally told my parents and i’ve got probiotics and i take antacids. i also don’t eat any gluten & barely any dairy. i feel better and it’s been less than 2 weeks and i’m feeling great! i even had a little bit of ice cream yesterday and didn’t bloat at all! so i would tell your parents and ask to get probiotics and antibiotics for gas and bloating. if i don’t see a major change before the start of high school, my mom will probably take me to the doctor. so if you don’t see changes by the time school starts(if you do this) than i’d go to a doctor. make sure you go on a diet though
I'm a mouth breather when I walk/run, and that has played a part in my bloating issues. In recent days I have tried to only use my nose, but it's like sucking water through the world's smallest straws, and I have to work almost twice as hard to breathe when I walk/run.

This bloating happens to me everytime. One day, I woke up and saw that I was very thin. I was a little happy. But after I ate food, I noticed that my upper belly was like it was like a balloon and my lower belly was also like a balloon but a little thick. After like 3 hours I noticed that it was swollen again. I saw this like everyday and thought that it was bloating

I didn't consider that it was my ibs that could cause bloating. It usually manifests differently so hearing that these instances of trapped gas and intense bloating could be ibs related actually makes me feel a bit better about the situation. Lookibg symptoms up online included everything from pregnancy to stomach cancer! Have to get to the doctor soon
I just learned that I have Excess Wind, Lactose Intolerance, Indigestion, and constipation :(
When I really need to release some gas, I just hope it's not during a session with my husband rimming me. That has happened and he just yells, "ewwwww" and continuous on with his rim.

I bloat after working out, and during the day. My roommate/ Thai Boxing trainer keeps telling me to work out more, but I already do!
And I drink Kombucha, at the moment, and a little after it helps, then it comes back.

Nice work. You seem to have forgotten one other thing, IBD! Rwo conditions come under Inflammatoty Bowel Disease: 1. Crohn's Disease (which I do have and does gause gassiness) and Ulcerative Colitis. Thus IBD should have been also addressed here.

You may be lactose intolerant. Try soy or almond milk. Also try going on a fruit and green vegetable smoothie diet. Have one for breakfast each day for a week and see if anything changes

I have been walking/jogging 3 miles every single day + drinking lots of water + eating more proportional meals + taking fiber + drinking green tea, while I am losing weight and getting more fit, i'm literally STILL bloated xD it looks horrible. I always look pregnant. I think I'm just gonna go to the doctor :\ thank you for the tips.

@@michaelehlert9 I completely forgot i left this comment a year ago lol. but they found h.pylori bacteria. i went on 10 strong antibiotics every day for a period of two weeks. my initial bloating issues have definitely gotten better after the antibiotic treatments. for me personally it was because of the h.pylori

I’m bloated every day and it never goes away for some reason and it really bothers me
I figured out that whenever I eat too much carb in my meal, my tummy bloats like crazy and I end up fart a lot. Lame but true haha. My lower stomach could stretch from 72 to 89cm after such meals 😅 Luckily, it is likely to get back to normal after a night of about 16 hours fasting. So basically I do intermittent fasting and lower my carb intake now. It works for me 🙏🏼

When I was younger I would always hold in gas smh I regret it now
Sharing my personal experience hopefully it will come in helpful to some of our friends here suffering the same symptoms. I had this bloating and indigestion problems for the past 2-3 years. Saw a specialist, did endoscopy, took in lots of medication but to no avail. Recently did some changes to my diet over the past 3 months, included a lot of fruits and raw vegetables in my daily diet and my conditions improved tremendously. Couldn’t believe it myself. Currently I take a glass of pineapple juice mix with orange juice daily after brunch plus some papaya after dinner. I am back to 80% normal now. Also cut down to 2 meals each day 8 hours apart. Consuming abit of Manuka honey on a daily basis helps a lot too fyi. Best of health people cheers =)

@@noemarie8 Exactly. I use the FODMAP diet and it shows the worst foods to cause bloating... there's so many for me it's borderline ridiculous how much I bloat. it really affects my mood and my weight loss.

Mine gets bloated every morning even when I eat nothing . My stomach also makes me looks pregnant and makes it hurt to wear clothes and sleep 😭
Ive had to start a vegan diet due to the amount of stomach issues ive had and all the doctors i see say the last doctor was wrong and its X,Y,Z. But even at that, i still have alot of stomach issues and trying to eat normal portions in one sitting makes me throw up so i split my meals in 2 so i have to eat 6 portions a day... exhausting!

I'm so jealous of some people, cause I know many who smoke, drink, eat junk food everyday, don't workout, party and/or work until 4 in the morning BUT they look like models, have flat toned bellies, flawless glowing skin, tons of energy and no health issues whatsoever. Meanwhile there's me: I sleep enough, eat healthy, rarely indulge and only in small portions, drink lots of water, start my day off with water with chlorophyll, I workout daily, and if I don't it's on those days I take super long walks (we're talking 10+ km here) I don't smoke, I don't drink daily or sometimes even weekly, and if I do it's either a cocktail or 1-2 glasses of wine, which is normal for europeans. And despite all those factors, I always look like I am 4 months pregnant. I hate it. Some people have it so easy, meanwhile I bust my ass to be as healthy as I can be (considering where and how I live) and I am always bloated, swollen up, low on energy, and my health is not the best either.

I think the worst is that diet culture makes people confuse abnormal bloating with normal body fluctuations. Our stomach is like a bag, if you put something in there, it increases in volume, once digested, it goes back down :)

Isn’t there some medicine that doesn’t make you bloated?

Ok, when he 1st said wind, I thought he meant the wind outdoors. I'm like, uh ok? Then I realized he means gas. LOL. Wind...a cute way to say farts. 💨
no matter what I eat I get bloated, I exercise, eat healthily, etc and I still bloat
I have regular bowel movements etc, I take probiotics everything and I still bloat
basically the only time i don't have bloating is when I don't eat

Bloating is mostly caused by spaghetti code and using multiple frameworks, libraries and a lot of non needed dependencies.
If I have a date I won’t eat for the whole day cuz if I eat I’ll literally bloat like crazy

I’m always bloated like my body is skinny except my stomach I sometimes dint even eat and I look bloated and I hate it because if I tighten my stomach I can see abs but after a while I get tired and go back to my bloated belly
