Full Synthetic, every 5000ks, or 6 months, oil and filter, whatever comes first. safest way! Petrol or Diesel. I'm just an old retired Mechanic. Any way whilst changing your oil your also checking other stuff under the bonnet and in other places.
Mesmerised by your oil and drain sitting on a bench. Was staring blankly and understood and remembered everything you said. Couldn’t work out if the oil was flowing or if it was just the reflection. Very creative and clever.
I buy oil in 209Litre drums Shell Rimula R5 10w40. Every 4months oil gets changed regardless kilometers travelled. Comes to about 250hrs - 300hrs of engine operation. Oil viscosity drops after that many hours. From a 40wt to a thick 30wt.
The Datsun 120Y, a gem of engineering excellence. I learnt to drive in a yellow 4 door. I’d still have it to this day, if it wasn’t written off by a daydreaming driver at an intersection in 1991. I miss that car.
hi Another is oil spec . Dealer does not like thicker for the GD series engines due to oil staying up on the cylinder bores which apparently causes oil usage . Anyways believe there rant till warranty runs out . Toyo use thinner oil than manual recommends FNQ High ambient =10w40 Sydney 10w 30 When these oils came out was late 90`s early 2000`s why so late =because the technology was not around to have 1/thin oils 2/ the spec spread 10 thru 40etc . So what we have seen is, these oils going OVER to full synthetic so they donot degrade ie loose there lubrication qualities with especially long service intervals ie 10k . Ford mazda for some models had semi-synthetic now spec full synthetic BUT WAIT... The definition of FULL synthetic has been watered down Mobil 1 which is a full ESTER true synthetic vs when Castrol went to court and had the definition changed basically watered down to include addition of base stock oil /mineral as a %. Just when u thought it was the end The price of quality full synthetic Mobil 1 in the USA is waaaaaaaaaaay cheaper 5 $ / ltr for common 10w/30 Oil history certain Mitsubishi turbo and Toyota turbo vehicles all had big end bearing issues oh yea Castrol oil . Its not the oils fault . Turbo cars are very hard on big ends . finished
1 yr old toyota 4runner(prados American cousin) Average 34 kph 40000 km 4.0L V6 Recommended schedule oil change 16000Km/1year Actual change every 8000Km oil and filter. Oil 0w20 synthetic Canada , winter temperatures down to -30C summer 30C 8000 is the severe service schedule. One of the categories for severe is having a roof pod? Short trips in winter or stop start driving. Seems a fine line between what is severe and normal. But 1yr/ 16000k in these conditions is pushing it, if someone is averaging 80kph then maybe. Of course dealerships think the 8K schedule is nuts. But the schedule calls for an in-between 6 month 8k service to rotate the tires and check the floor mats 😅
2002 1kz-te every 5000 km for me, which is usually around 6 months anywayz. Nulon premium mineral 15w-40. always comes out black as sin, which is normal i suppose

70km/hr average, 85:11hrs, 95175km purchased new May 2022 Try to service every 10000km cheers -
love your information mate, keep up the good work!
Start checking oil consumption at 6-7K. My 17 model starts using it at 5K(oil change time). Likely you'll have to top up.
300K on the Odo now.
I used Mobil 1 in my Datsun 120y for a few years, and stopped when I found the rocker gear worn out. Back to Castrol... No problem.

I dropped an A15 with GX head, twin Hitachi SU's into a 120Y, nice upgrade, 6hours labour, a lot of fun.

Oil should be changed on operational hours, not time or kilometers.

Great logic. Very good information.

I used the Valvoline super diesel every 5K. 1kz loves the real dinosaur oil. sold it after 17 years was so solid. and the best looking Prado
with older cars , say 16 years old , and does a lot of km, would you still recommend every 10, 000 km for oil change
I sort of explained what I recommend watch the video again to the end
will do@@Fourby4Diesel
Would you recommend the doing the oil twice a year on the 1grfe doing around 10000kms a year , Prados done about 280,000 in Nz
Perfect
2019 UK Spec 2GD Hilux 50kph (31mph) average, over 96,000kms.
