      Hey mate
      Love your videos. Just an update as you mentioned that Ryco doesn't have a pre filter on the bottom of their Hilux fuel filters (R2619P), they have revised them a while back (I use Ryco on all my clients vehicles) and they have had pre filters on them now for at least a year but may be longer :)

    The fine print on the Penrite Enviro+ full synthetic series oils (which is for DPF as well as non DPF engines)
    says the 5W-40 is also “suitable where a 0W-40, 5W-30 and 10W-30 oils are recommended”. So that’s a Damm good oil IMO.
    About 10 years ago they used to cost $80 per 5 litres. I’ve NEVER paid that price as I always stock up. I use either Genuine or Ryco filters...they were on special at Super Cheap Auto, so I bought 5 at $6 each! Damm cheap.
    I also use the cheapest oil I can do do a engine oil flush every 50,000klms.
    I also add Anti-wear oil AW-10. When reading up on their product it says it can hold twice the “soot load” compared to just using oil alone. Being able to carry abrasive soot limits the abrasive action on your engine.
    I started doing this ever since 100,000 when we bought the vehicle which ALL services were done by Toyota. Hence I was confident I had an engine that was correctly serviced even though it was 4 year old when purchased.
    Now the old girl has 313,000 klms and does not use a drop of oil between services.
    Long live the 1kD engine...Toyota got that one right.

    I’m definitively switching to a SAE 5W/40 on my wife’s 2010 Volvo XC 60 D5! I’ve been using SAE 5W/30 for the last decade. I’ve been replacing it every 5,000 Km, albeit, we’re on the tropics. Despite, our temperatures rarely reach 32 C but never ever go to freezing even in the highest mountains. And I frowned upon the dealer using SAE 15W/40 as old truck oil -that I use on my 1999 Toyota HiAce LH122- without remorse. The HiAce has given us 450,000 Km of trouble free service!

    According to the user manual for your "W" prefix number 10W will be fine for temps down to -18c, 15W fine for temps down to -11c, and 20W fine for -7c. The suffix number is stated as fine for temps exceeding 38 degrees, but I expect 30 will be a little bit thin on really hot days. I think a 15W-40 would suit most people's needs, even in cooler areas. That or just swap to a 10W-40 in Winter months if you're worried. I think 5W-30 would be a shit oil for most people unless they lived in the Perisher Valley in Winter or something.

    Hey Anthony. Thankyou very much for these videos. The amount of things I’ve gone over on my n70 hilux is incredible. So many small parts I’ve personally changed out that my local “mechanic” had no idea about and claim they know these cars like the back of their hand. But one thing I’m having a huge issue with them is. Oil in my coolant bottle just specs iron surface. They claim blow by but doing the blow by test and compression tests it’s all standard if not better. It has 370,000. And they just re did the head, glow plugs and injectors… is this something you would be interested in booking in to have a gander? Thanks mate.

    Hi, have seen some people using the Green coolant in their 1kd. Red or pink is the only one for the Toyota as one is an Inorganic fluid as opposed to an Organic, being the other. Yes, big corrosion problems if using the wrong coolant.

      Having owned both a diesel Prado and a petrol, I must say the 1GRFE V6 is still a great engine. A lot more horsepower, easy to maintain and considerably cheaper to service than the diesel without the associated problems. Both motors have their pros and cons but In my view, Toyota should have put a 6 pot diesel in the Prado but there has been too much turf guarding of their 200 series Landcruiser.

Many thanks for laying out all the options so clearly, and for the advice to find when on sale or on ebay for the not so critical filters, like cabin air. I will be grabbing a Wesfil cabin air filter for $23 at supercheap, or order for a tad less off ebay.

    • @Haywoodjablomie100
      @Haywoodjablomie100 4 года назад

      Genuine parts are always preferred, especially when the price difference is negligible such as oil filters. When there's a stupid price difference and the aftermarket part meets spec then it's hard to justify as the video has said. The take away is regular servicing done properly.

      Fourby4Diesel I bought a 2012 SZ 2.7 diesel with 200,000 klm for 9k, just did all the fluid changes as the previous owner let the service log slip for the past 25,000klm, checked the condition of the timing belt, looks very good but noticed the air cleaner was very dirty. Getting around 7.6 to 8.1 litre per 100 klm, depends on city or country driving for the past 3,700 klm. Noticed they have 2 EGR system as it’s a V6 diesel and been told they just replace them and not clean them out. The pump your talking about is it the fuel pump belt at the rear of the block ? A new engine is 8k, is there anything I should know or keep an eye on, bought for long distance driving and pulling a trailer upto 2 Tonne on a rare occasion. Cheers
