    One year when I was young I was 60 miles away from town and I was making jelly fir the first time and it took so long for it to boil- _ we were camping and i couldn't get it hot so i cooked a long time it was good but as i said hours to just a little boil I canned it was just wonderful .
    First time I made jelly much later and in a house orange and I think pineapple been over 40 years
    So easy just like you are doing wonderful teaching, and BRINGING back memories of days gone by
    I was in my 20s we had a Cabin 60 miles from the Nearest Gas station
    Homestead NO Electric
    GREAT BIG FIREPLACE THE FIRE ROARING THE CEDAR SNAP CRACKED AND POP. ONLY ON A STORY NIGHT DID WE USE THE BACKGROUND MUSIC OF THE FIREPLACE. MOST TIME WE WATCH THE BATS HAVING THEIR OWN DINNER

    What is pectin is it a preservative?

    • @banzaitnt
      @banzaitnt 3 года назад

      Pectin is a carbohydrate naturally found in fruits. It forms a structure with sugar at the right acidity which causes gelling. Fruits like apples or guava which are high in pectin set very easily with just sugar. If you have a low pectin fruit like pineapple you can add apples or oranges to it to increase the pectin content for easier set.

    • @pgnanofarm9776
      @pgnanofarm9776  4 года назад

      They have a low sugar pectin that will cut the sugar in half or lower. I would try that first.

    Do you think this tastes better than Welch’s grape jelly from the store?

    • @pgnanofarm9776
      @pgnanofarm9776  4 года назад +1

      It tastes as good or better but the cost was way less. The best grape jelly in my opinion is from wild grapes but we don't have those here in WA. It's also a good starting point for those that want to learn how to can.

    • @joannwilliams4801

      Would you be reluctant to use liquid pectin?

    • @pgnanofarm9776
      @pgnanofarm9776  4 года назад +1

      @@joannwilliams4801 no. Liquid pectin often needs a very long boiling stage. It can come out liquidy without it but if that what you got... Use it. Boil it a long time.

      Yes you can!!! I can't remember the amount but it will be on the package of liquid pectin. I have found I have to boil that for a while longer though to get it to set but still works great!!!
