Jeb Brooks this might seem weird but can u do a compilation of all the reviews u have on ur headphone reviews on airlines? It really interests me a lot for some reason
My husband was a controller at Minneapolis Center for 35 years & is at this moment at work as an ATC instructor in Oklahoma City. We’ve been together for 20 years & I just learned more about ATC in your video than he’s ever told me.
The folks working air traffic control are truly working with orchestrated chaos. I respect each and every person involved in the ATC chain and appreciate their dedication and focus. Thank you for keeping us all safe!
11:34 minutes of this was not nearly enough. Can’t wait until you go back. On another note, I am amazed at the quality of your work. It seems like a full on production team. Bravo. 👏🏽
Jeb, I went to Aviation High School in New York City and my teachers used to try and explain this process. In 10 minutes, you condensed the 4 years they tried to explain this to us. Thank you!
Dig deeper, please! I've always heard that this was one of the most stressful jobs one could have. Most never think twice...thank you to all who make flying as safe as it is today. These guys a real pro's and need more recognition.
Hi Jeb! Amazed with the access you have been able to achieve, from Delta CEO to ATL Tower. I love how you introduce speakers with modesty and humbleness. You are a great ambassador for Delta and the FAA.
Thumbs up! Thanks to EVERYONE who made this possible as well as all ATCs everywhere. My Father was an ATC with the National Guard way back in the 1950s - 1960s and told me how stressful this profession can be. Sadly, he passed away 23 years ago. RIP, Dad. ✈️⭐️✈️-I’d like to see a more detailed video if possible. Thanks again!
My Dad was an ATC at Memphis from 1960-1977 when he retired. I remember as a child being able to go to work with him when he worked midnight to 8 am shift. It was a fascinating experience to say the least. An extremely stressful job that so many people have no clue what all goes on. This was a nice peek into it but the profession deserves so much more of a deeper look. Would love to see more videos explaining each position in detail. And also hello from a fellow Triad resident!!
I’m an Air Traffic Controller in Nigeria. Maybe you should come down here and see how we do a less sophisticated but more stressful type of control. It’s called Procedural control. I like to call blind control, where we have nothing but our pen and paper strips and keep a mental picture of traffic based on positive position reports from the pilots.
Wow you have an interesting job... i envy you I am from nigeria.. i just discovered I enjoy listening to tower controllers giving directions to pilots to land or take off with aviation phrases...do you have female controllers in nigeria too?
Oh yes absolutely go back for a deeper dive into it! We are so thankful to the FAA for them letting you in so we can see the important job these Men and women do for us so we can go on our vacations and do our business day to day! Thank you Torrance and Brian I think it was the little guy that sent the invitation to you to come! They do such an unbelievable job at Atlanta Airport! I have flown in and out a few times over the last few years! I just now saw this video!
I’m so amazed and THRILLED that you got access to the tower! I’m so happy for you and thank you for doing this video! By far, it’s been my favorite so far!
As a former Controller at Washington ARTCC, I enjoyed giving tours when folks would come in wondering what our building was and what we did. You have provided an incredibly simplified version of the process, but since each piece can be very complicated and detailed, most folks just want the very basic understanding that the Center Manager offered. I often got detailed in my explanations and watched the eyes glaze over. You've provided a great insight to a very complicated system that the public no longer is free to see as it was when I was working The public is often comforted in knowing that the airplane does not move from the gate until a controller authorizes it. And, that plane is being given direction for everything it does until it is authorized to head toward it's gate after landing. The pilot is ultimately responsible for safety, but the controller is exerting positive control over the planes every movement. Good job in your brief overview. Very nicely done.
You should also do a video on Airline Flight Dispatchers. Back in the day, when I was in sales, I got a tour of Jet Blue's flight Dispatch floor in their Queens HQ, and sat with a Dispatcher, and he showed me what he did. Really interesting. They're communicating with the pilots all the time, along with ATC.
Jeb what an AMAZING VIDEO!! YES please do more videos at ATC digging deeper and more comprehensive. Big shouts to that controller who watches your videos (how cool is that!) and invited you up and of course to you for this awesome video!! Keep it up for all of your fans sir!! ATC rules and so does Jeb!
To my knowledge, there are no videos like this on RUclips regarding the US ATC system. Would love to dig deeper into each position and actually see them working!
It’s not all the time the average person gets to see the ins and outs of the complex ATC system. So, thank you for this video and, please, keep them coming.
Man, the most highly trained, qualified, competent, and proficient people in the country who keep millions and millions of people safe every year, all whittled down to an 11 minute vid. These people are second only to the two guys (gals) up front in the jet who keep the pointy end forward. Good stuff.
I can't believe they allowed him to take pics and vids. I'd love to try to get a tour of a ATC tower or a railroad dispatcher facility or yard tower, but I bet it's really hard to get one.
Awesome vid. Just to clarify the sequence a bit -- Ground - handles pushback from the gate and taxi to the runway. Tower - gives permission to enter the runway and clearance to takeoff. Departure (TRACON) - handles the aircraft as it climbs away from the airport. Center - handles the aircraft at high altitude as it cruises towards its destination. Approach (TRACON) - handles the aircraft as it descends towards its destination. Tower - handles the aircraft in the landing pattern and gives permission to land. Ground - directs the aircraft from the runway to the gate. Sounds complex. Is complex. But works very well most of the time.
The aviation system, current planes and ATC are one of the most under appreciated aspect of modern life in many ways. Three word describe it ... Humans Are Amazing.
I'm currently a high school senior wishing to earn a B.S. in Air Traffic Management at Embry-Riddle. This video increases my excitement for the profession!
Pushing Tin was my best job....thanks for showing others this important job. When I started in 1982 I was introduced to NYC and the common IFR room....if you want to see complex airspace sit JFK sector or the tower where there is a corridor off the departure end.....

YES!!! Please return for a deeper dive into Air Traffic Control! IM trying to get my Grandson who just started College to explore this career. I sent him the video.
I believe ATL also has ramp controllers for each ramp (the area between the concourses) to help coordinate push-backs, etc. So, I think an aircrew would first listen to ATIS for WX/NOTAMS, et cetera. Then they would call Clarence at Clearance Control to make sure their flight plan is ready to go. Then, when ready, call the ramp controller for push-back and they will in-turn tell the flight crew to face north (for 26L/8R) or south (for 27R/9L). Then after push-back they would call ramp again to say ready to taxi and the controller will get them out to Taxiway L or Taxiway E/F. At that point they would be told to switch to Ground Control who will instruct them to either 26L/8R or 27R/9L. When the flight crew is ready at the departure end they will be instructed to contact Tower who will then get them into the air. Once the flight-crew has positive rate of climb and the gear retracted, the flight crew will be instructed to contact ATC on departure. A lot of freq changes in a short time. Hectic but fun to listen to also.
Most aircraft now get their clearance electronically through PDC (Pre Departure Clearance). Very few aircraft call Clearance Delivery, unless there is a problem with their flight plan.
Yesssss! Great video! Love the backstage access! Love to see more about ATC especially in ATL. In my younger years, I worked in the E Tower, ground controller, for ramps 4 & 5, before concourse F was built. I'd love for people to be able to see the choreography that happens in the ground control tower... communicating with both inbound & outbound traffic on those two ramps! Thanks for another great video Jeb! 👍👍👍
I am fascinated by ATC and always wanted to understand the concepts. I have become an aviation geek thanks to your videos... Keep up the great work Jeb. 👍
wow - what an incredible opportunity to go behind the scenes - very jealous!! That view was incredible - could look at that all day. well done on yet another sensational video mate.
I love how @ 5:05 he mentions that TRACON is the last person a pilot talks to before landing. Then the Tower guy gets interviewed and mentions that TRACON hands pilot over to Tower to handle the final approach before landing. lol
It was a good real R E A L quick short segment. Left me wanting to see a lot more. Please do return! Also random unsolicited fact here for anyone wanting to get a job as a ATC: There is an FAA requirement that trainees begin their training at the Academy no later than their 31st birthday, and face mandatory retirement at age 56. I wanted to work in ATC when I was graduating from HS but chickened out after I purchased a book to study. Still wished I had went to school for it. I am just amazed at how it’s done!

I am still in ATC working in the Federal Contract Program. We are a huge part of the National Airspace System. Tell Brian I said hi and hope to hear more soon.
Before I retired I had the chance to tour CLT's tower. Even though CLT has about 550k movements a yr, it's still is challenging considering the foot print is so much smaller than ATL. I put the job of a controller at the top of my list for respect. I spent 20 years in Airfield Maintenance so we worked closely with ATC, they could tell by the way you communicate if they needed to keep an extra eye on you. We had one controller on the night shift that would have full blown conversations with us about how we striped the airfield, we called him Mr. Inquisitive, great guy, enjoyed working when he was up there... Jeb - This is the first video I ever gave a thumbs up to. Great job getting the permissions to make this video. As a 'Rail Traffic Controller," I'd love to see a video going deeper into this.
Enjoyed watching your Video today. I think I’ve been thru ATL. Can you prepare a video on what passengers can do to make sure luggage is routed properly and what happens to lost luggage b4 it gets to a public auction.
You should go back and get the perspective from the maintenance side of the house! We maintain the communication and Navigation systems, Radar, Weather, ILS, etc... Really cool how the systems work together! Thanks for posting this video! People ask me what I do and it's hard to explain.
Awesome video brother!! I almost became an air traffic controller when I was in the Air Force and that’s one of my biggest regrets in life was not following that path but I did well anyways and enjoyed the path I did take.
