Today, Sunday, I was in Edinburgh Scotland for church. I’ve never been in a Relief Society meeting that was as on fire as this meeting. Women of the Covenant from all over the world were testifying of God and His Christ in a marvelous manner. It’s all true. It’s all true.
"Nobody is in an ill-temper, nobody is the worse for drink, nobody swears an oath or uses a coarse word, nobody appears depressed, nobody is weeping, and down upon the deck in every corner where it is possible to find a few square feet to kneel, crouch or lie in, people, in every suitable attitude for writing, are writing letters. Now, I have seen emigrants ships before this day in June. And these people are strikingly different from all other people in like circumstances whom I have ever seen, and I wonder aloud, "What would a stranger suppose these emigrants to be!'…I should have said they were in their degree, the pick and flower of England" --Charles Dickens, after visiting an immigration ship headed to Zion.
Love this! I agree wholeheartedly. My great Grandpa is Scottish. I feel their love and their determination to stand firm in the truth. Covenant keepers! God bless us all to be those kind of people. ❤️
Amazing podcast, most of my ancestors are from Scotland, it has made me want to study this movement to see if I have any ancestors that were involved. We’ve got to keep doing the work for our ancestors in the Temples of the Lord
Thank you for sharing these stories of the sacrifices these covenanters made; they are so inspiring! And the point that it's through covenants with God that we will save the constitution makes it sound so simple. I absolutely loved this episode! ❤
Nice! Thanks so much for providing a historical example, therefore, putting a pattern in place of how to much better understand and interpret both scripture and history.
Very fascinating story about the covenanters. Liberty cannot exist without righteousness and righteousness will flourish under liberty. Despotism is a tool of the adversary. What earthly King is so full of himself that he thinks he's king above Christ? Well, now we know.
It is amazing the Extraordinary courage of the people of God. This is the proof of the power of the spirit even on times of darkness. God was stirring the hearts of people to bring forth the restoration, even that early.
Hannah, wow! Just wow. That lesson might have been the new shot heard round the world. It makes complete sense the solution would be to make covenants with God. This has lit a fire inside my heart. Thank you so much.
Hannah: I agree 100%! I felt the same as I was studying and putting this together. I hope this podcast will inspire some Latter-Day Saints to lead the charge!
I'm so amazed at the breath and knowledge you have Hannah. I'm so touched by your family story. Without fault you deliver every podcast. Thank you so much.
Wonderful lesson on a true history forgotten or rather erased from the memory of our present world. Thanks for sharing this wonderful sliver of "things as they really were" !
Wow, Hannah! This one hit me hard and gave me even more of a desire to turn my heart to my fathers and to seek out my ancestors and the covenants that motivated them. Thank you for your efforts in preparing to present this much needed message. I am awe struck! You once again have dropped a 💣 🐚.
Thank you for this Hannah! My husband and I have much Scottish ancestry and this brought me to tears. His sister and niece went to Scotland and brought back dirt from his ancestral land which sits on a bookshelf in a small jar. We hope to go there some day. And now Edinburgh is getting a temple! 😭😭😭 again thank you for this ❤
Thank ! Your personal history brought me to tears! Such a heartbreaking time in history. We tend to look back on these terrible things but give little credence to the thought that it could happen in modern times. We're too civilized for that to happen today! Not so! It's already begun! The thought occurred to me as i listened. If I'm ever asked to denounce my covenants, how can i do less than those righteous covenanters of old, to give my life to uphold them? I cannot.
This was so interesting to watch. I grew up in a very strict, conservative SDA family, and we had quite a similar mindset and appreciation of history and the human struggle for liberty. Ultimately I ended up leaving that faith because our doctrines couldn't be supported by the best historical evidence, but I still appreciate the conviction and sincerity we had. It seems right now, the majority of Americans use the liberty we have in our country to live according to their human nature and it's lusts with as little hindrance as possible. And, all religious teachings are seen to be some combination of unscientific and unethical. The big crisis straight ahead seems to be population collapse because there's no secular foundation for the existence of families. I have no idea what will change this country for the better, at this point.
Hannah: I cannot tell you how much I agree with what you said regarding liberty being used for selfish purposes and to satisfy lust. Too often, even, the fight to defend rights is driven from selfish motivation, rather than laying down your life to serve others. This is a huge cause behind our downfall, in my opinion.
I just found out through Ancestry that I have Scottish blood. My one worry is and has been would I be strong enough in my faith to give up my life for it.
yes i am aslo a descendent of James Guthrie, He was my 9th Great Grandfather and also my other 8th Great Grandfather is aslo King Charles II. So My Great Grand Father Jesse Esrum Sharp married Russletta Heward who is a descendent of King Charles Ii though her mother Susanna Talbot. and Jesse is decedenndt of Hannah Guthrie who is 2nd Great Granddaugther of James Guthrie
BTW Hannah, the quote from the King saying that he has no more power in Scotland than a “Doge” in Venice….. the word is not a British spelling of “dog”. Actually, the Doge of Venice (pronounced like “dodge” but with a long “o” sound) was a very important ruler in Venice-- basically a President/Prince of medieval Venice. So King Charles I would have been familiar with the power of the Doge in Venice, and still lamented how powerless he was with the Scots.
Every ordinance has a covenant, or covenants, associated with it. You cannot just randomly call things ordinances or covenants without understanding what they are and what they represent. There is baptism of water, an ordinance with covenants, and there is a baptism of fire, an ordinance with covenants. Every commandment is NOT a covenant, and every ordinance is certainly NOT a covenant. In a covenant, there is a two-way agreement between God and man that we will keep the commandments associated with the covenant, and to make that binding, we perform an ordinance. A commandment is something God directs us to do, and if we comply, there are certain blessings; there are no ordinances associated with commandments. We can all make this same covenant that King Benjamin's people did by seeking for and obtaining the baptism of fire and the holy ghost (the ordinance) - that is how they received a remission of their sins.

I love all this history and covenant making. Thank you.
Fantastic & Inspiring!!!!!

God bless you Hannah 💕🙏🌈🥰
The sacred faith of these saints who laid their lives down is tearful!
Calling all Covenanters, righteous warriors, and iron roders! Let’s gooooo💯👏🏻👍🏻🇺🇸💥

Thank you, Hannah, for your lesson on our history. When we lived in Highland there was a family with the last name of Guthrie.

Well said.
Amen and praise to righteous rulers who serve the true King through service to their fellow men.
We’ll see it again in self
Proclaimed kings still to come.
Thank you for this lesson.
Great history lesson on the Covenanters and parallels to the BOM! Loved it! Would like to read more about them.

I love the humor of God... using Calvinists to usher in the Restoration of the true eternal Gospel.
Oh my 😂. That’s awesome! We each have a part to play.
I love your channel!!! Thank you thank you. ❤
🏴 A soul stirring podcast. Thank you!

How blessed I am to be able to learn this amazing history while I cook for my family!! Thank you 🙏
I hadn't heard these stories before. I do have ancestors from Ireland and Scotland.
This is my heritage, My Scottish 6th great grandfather Captain John Dickey fought in the Revolutionary War. Thank you Hannah for sharing this.❤❤

Agree! We need live up to and for our covenants and die for them if ever challenged.
I love all the history stories you include in your lessons. Fantastic job!

Hannah, you should teach history and get deeper into this in your videos.
