Olga, my blanket is very stiff. Any tips to make it more flexible?
Oh, I don't know, I didn't have that problem. I'm going to pin your comment, maybe somebody else have any advice.
Stitches might be too tight.
Also a bigger hook size might help.
Try a bigger hook.
Looser stitches, especially for the starting chain.
Thank you ❤️ Really like how it's turning out.
Very nice, I’ve never used such a bulky yarn. Thank you for sharing 😊
looks so pretty, i can’t wait to try this!
That looks so soft and cosy x 💝
Thanks Olga for this pattern you made it so easy to follow along. I made a throw for my couch it is a big hit. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.
Hi Cathy, you are very welcome! I'm so glad to hear you made a throw! 👍🏻
I cannot wait to try this pattern. The blanket is beautiful. It looks warm and cozy. Thank you. Very expicit tutorial
You are very welcome! I hope you'll enjoy making it!
Thank you for sharing this pattern. Very easy and you’re right it does work up really quickly 🧶
You are very welcome! Happy crocheting!
I am making a big thick blanket too! My yarn is the Bernat blanket yarn thick. I am using a 10mm hook. I am just using all single crochet. I hope soon day to do one with the even thicker yarn. It gets cold here in Oregon too, and snow blankets the ground. Thank you .
Beautiful blanket! Thank you for tutorial!
Very nice! I worked an arrow stich with the same kind of yarn and hook. It was a little tricky at first but It turned out nice. I was looking for something a little more simple. This will do just fine. Thank you!
Love your work and instructions
Thank You very much for sharing your design.
Happy Crocheting 😊
Thank you! Happy crocheting! 🌺
This is my first time using this yarn. I love this. Thank you❤️
Hi Liz, you are very welcome!
I just finished a jumbo blanket using just double crochet. I am going to try this. It looks so pretty thank you.
Hi! Congrats on finishing your blanket, and I hope you'll enjoy making this one!
Every night I read a book to my kids when they are in bed, and I sit on the flour in their room on this blanket. It's super soft and comfortable! I'm so glad I made it!
Thank you so much this will be my first blanket and I finally got it I was having a hard time learning but you explain so well !
You are very welcome, I'm so glad to hear that!
Olga, you're a lifesaver. I bought the same yarn, and it's so happens to be in the same color as yours.
For days, I have been trying to come up with a simply stitch that looks good on this overly bulky yarn. Everything I tried ended up looking super ugly. With this type of yarn, the stitches don't have any definition. Instead, they blend into one big lump. I was to the point of packing up the unopened skeins to ship them back for a return. Then, miraculously, I came across your video.
I cannot thank you enough. I followed along & I was very happy with the results. I probably will never buy this yarn again, but I bet your pattern will still look super nice on a less bulkier type of yarn. Thanks again!
You are most welcome! I'm not a big fan of bulky yarns either, and this project is not my typical crochet style. But this video does get a lot of views, so I'm glad it's helpful to people.
Thanks Olga!! Im making my mom a blanket now with this pattern. Its amazing. Size 10 hook and bernat yarn. Biggest Ive ever worked with but finishing fast. Thanks again for the lesson and new pattern!!
Hi Gina, I'm so glad you like this pattern and the blanket is turning out well! I'm sure your mom will love the blanket! Happy crocheting!
I have worked with chunky yarn 🧶I love the V stitch. With the chunky yarn I only skip one chain.
Wonderful pattern and tutorial, spasiba Olga.
You are very welcome!
I want to make an afghan from super chunky yarn, but I didn't want to make it with plain loops. This pattern is perfect, and just what I was looking for! Thank you Olga! ♥️💐♥️
You are most welcome! I'm so glad you like it!
you can also omit the chain in between each double v stitch , this will prevent holes in the blanket
Yes, that will create a thicker fabric with no holes!
Is this true? You can omit the CH ST in between the DC without disturbing the row count?
Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!! So very much!
I like your tutorial and love your accent
Thank you!
For those commenting that she’s going too quickly. I just slowed down the speed of the video to 0.5x using the three dots in the corner of the video. Good luck
Yes, RUclips gives the option of watching the videos at a slower speed.
Yes! There are so many people who don’t know about those three little dots in the corner and they don’t know that they can slow the video down. I did not know until several years ago when someone pointed that out to me and I’m so glad they did!
This is positively lovely. I have used Bernat Velvet Plus and now I'm going to try Lion Brand Go For Fleece. This works up so very nice. Thank you for this pattern!
You are most welcome! Happy crocheting!
Im using Bernat Bulk as well and its amazing! Size 10 hook!
This is lovely, I'll definitely try this
The finished blanket is super soft and cozy, you'll love it! Happy crocheting!
Thank you dear ❤
Hello, making this now with a 10 hook. I don’t know why people keep saying you are talking to fast, I thought you were very nice and clear. Thank you!
Hi! Thank you so much! 😊
How did it turn out with a 10mm hook? It’s the largest I have as well
I've been trying to find a patter. Thank Olga. Just found one❤
You are most welcome! Enjoy!
Beautiful blanket! I love that yarn and the pattern is very beautiful too.
I am just about to crochet my first blanket ever (actually the first thing I have ever crocheted) in the same type of yarn.but from a different company. I got the 15mm hook to try with it, The yarn should arrive tomorrow, Can hardly wait. :-)
How exciting! Happy crocheting! And Happy Holidays!
@@OlgaPoltava Thank you Olga, I appreciate your knowledge and thoughtfulness. I have been having so much fun. Crochet is definitely a big new love in my life now. It really has been exciting.
I had no idea it was going to be this difficult to work with this thick yarn. I had to go a step down from what you're using with just the Bernet blanket yarn. It was a lot easier.
Yes, it's very difficult working with such thick yarn.
I gave up on the thick yarn as well. Way too difficult to work with and trying trying to do finger crochet is even harder in my opinion unless you have a nice long table to work with. I would prefer my lap with a nice cup of coffee.
Hi Olga I made a blanket for my bed with this wool with a half double stitches only with a 15 crochet hook 😊 with the same amout of stitches have a nice day god bless you 😊🙏
Wonderful!
I love bernate yarn, but i hate working with chunky yarn very tiredsome on the hands ...your blanket is beautiful
Yes, I agree, it's not very enjoyable on the hands.
Good night i never use a yarn like that before ì just got some and i am thinking what to make with them
Hello! I love this pattern, it’s super easy and comes out very nicely ☺️ I was wondering if we are allowed to sell products made from your pattern (with credit of course)? If not, then I won’t do such a thing!
Hi Nicole! Thank you for your comment and thank you for asking! You are very welcome to sell finished items made from my patterns!
@@OlgaPoltava Thank you so much! 🥰♥️
Hi Olga. Thank you so much for this. I made numerous blankets during Covid using the Bernat Blanket. I always landed up doing the whole blanket in single crochet, but it drove me insane always having to watch that I never added or lost stitches. It really is tough to control that unless you count. I sent one to my mother-in-law in Israel who told me this is the first time in almost 20 years that she is now able to sleep a full night. It obviously works like a weighted blanket. I cannot wait to try this pattern now. Is this the size of a throw or an actual blanket?? PS My new favorite is bernat velvet extra!!!!! Love it!
Question: Do you have any idea where to buy the massive yarn for hand knitting that will not cost over $100?!!!
Hi Stephanie, thank you for your comment! Crochet blankets made with this yarn are so comforting! I made mine 48 by 38 inches, which is a lapghan size. Of course, you can make it bigger, but obviously you'll need more yarn.
No, unfortunately I don't know where to buy massive yarn, but I've wanted to try it too.
How many balls of wool did you use? And how did you join between the two balls?
I have made o hand net blank
I’m not finding this pattering on any of your links you have.
Please post the 4baby girl skirt and jacket please
i am currently doing a blanket in chunky xl halfway on the blanket now each ball is 400g and just started on the 6th ball . i do like oversized blankets though.
Hi, i wanted to ask how many skeins do i need to make a jumbo blanket? Approximately...Thank you
Four skeins for size 48 inches long, 38 inches wide.
I want to make this king size. My foundation chain just needs to be odd numbered?
No, it needs to be a multiple of 3, plus 2
im going to make a 50 x 60" 1," jumbo yarn. how many chains do i need
So we did the math, because I'm doing the same, and you'll need 71 chains to start for the first row.
Hi! Love this pattern was wondering what size crochet hook you’re using?
8mm
The recommend hook size for this yarn is 15 mm, but I didn't have one, so I used 8 mm.
Do you think I can add a border to this blanket with a different color?
Yes, you can add a border! 👍🏻
How do you scale this pattern up to a bigger size? Does it have to be an odd number of stitches?
The amount of starting chains must be a multiple of 3, plus 2.
💖😍
For baby blanket how many gram and no. Of slip stitch required? Thank-you
Unfortunately I can't say exactly as I didn't make a baby blanket. You can start with a chain as long as you want the width of your blanket to be, but make sure the amount of chains is a multiple of 3, plus 2.
👏👏👏👏👏🤩😍

How many stitches are your staring chain for a blanket that’s 48 inches long and 38 inches wide? I’m trying to make some for my family for Christmas! 💕 I know that’s it’s multiples of 3 and add 2.. but how many did you do?
Ohh 53 chains! I hahah watched the video again! I’m starting my project!!
@@Lostgirl_404 Yes 53! Happy crocheting! And Happy Holidays!
@@OlgaPoltava does the 53 chains include the starting slip knot?
What crochet hook do you use for the large bulky yarn not the baby on the big bulky yarn
The recommended hook size is 15 mm, but I didn't have one, so I used the largest that I had on hand, which was 8 mm.
Can you use this pattern with regular chunky yarn. I want to do a queen size blanket, but not with the jumbo yarn.
Yes, you can!
are the gaps between each v stich suppose to be big, mines seem to be too large
Your hook is not right for your yarn, maybe try a smaller one
How do you change colors with this type of yarn?
Because the yarn is so thick, I would probably just use a knot.
In future videos could You show the full blanket
Good point! Yes, I will. Thank you!
im confused..... do i keep doing this pattern until it gets longer.... but it's so short... can I see more of the video...?
Never mind.... I had to go back to the beginning.... it’s turning out so cute!! One question tho.. how do I add more yarn because I ran out
@@iTzMEnArYJ There are a few ways to do it. I don't have any tutorials on it on my channel, but there are tons of them on youtube. You can simply type something like: how to join yarn.
Just put in as many stitches as you want to make it as wide as you want....
@@linoleluminum2017 Thank you so much for answering this. I really appreciate it! I get so many comments, it's hard to keep up with all of them.
You have to make it wider than 17 stitches. She did 17 for the demo but ideally you would want to do it wider than that
How would you switch to a new skein? I’ve gone through one but I’m just clueless on how you would switch to a new one
look up a tutorial on youtube on how to do an invisible join with yarn! what i do is lay the yarn im working with down and then the yarn i want to switch to above it so they are parallel and laying down like this ---
---- and then i knot the strings around each other and pull tight!
Hi! I do the same as Bailey Morgan, but I wrap one around the other a few times, then knot the tails twice, pulling tight each time. Leave yourself at least a few inches of yarn for each tail after the knots are tied. (I like about 3 or 4 inches left over. I just don't trust cutting them off close to the knots, but a lot of people do.) After you weave the tails into the afghan, the knots will not show. Happy crocheting! ♥️💐♥️
Tried it with the bernat velvet plus but im not sure if i made it big enough...
I am having a hard time finding the stitches when i attempt to make anything with blanket yarn.. I end up undoing anything.. so checking out this video.. I am not sure how to make it any easier .. i have tried adding a opposing color of size 4 yarn but we shall see how that goes..
I hear you! Working a blanket with this yarn in single crochets would be a nightmare because like you said, it's so hard to see the stitches! That's why I chose a V-st, that chain in between two double crochets makes it a bit easier to see the right spaces.
Let me know how your blanket turns out with adding size 4 yarn. Good luck!
@@OlgaPoltava thanks I am going to try this
Love the stitch but you may also want to go a bit slower as sometimes have to go back and forth to check of the next hole is the correct one. Would be nice to spend more time on showing which holes in this bulky wool. Thank you
I feel the same, so I use the tool to slow down the video it helps along with pausing it. Happy hooking!
The main issue I have is when going back along the line that already has v stitches it bulks up so fast that it looks crazy
I really wish I could see it in person. Don't really know what to say without seeing it. 🤷🏻♀️
I must be dumb, I didn’t get it…
I have started with 53 chains and every single time I haven’t had one chain left at the end of row one for the dc before the second row. I’ve redone it 3 times now and it keeps happening. Is it 53 chains exactly for the very first row?
If your losing chains then your dropping stitches somewhere. So yes if you start with 53 chains your gonna still have 53 chains at the end of the row.
Also at the beginning after your chain you go back into the 4th one so maybe try checking that again
Also at the beginning after your chain you go back into the 4th one so maybe try checking that again
How many balls do we need for throw?
See the info in the description box below the video.
The yarn linked is for regular Bernat Blanket yarn (super bulky). The description of this item says Bernat Blanket Extra which is Jumbo and matches the measurements listed.
You are so right! I don't know how I made that mistake 🤦🏻♀️ Fixed it now! Thank you so much for letting me know!
En españollll xfa
This is so hard! I can’t do it!!!!! Sure, I’m only 10 but I did 53 chain’s because I didn’t hear u say 17 and I have so many more chains!
In this video I'm making a small sample to demonstrate the pattern. For the actual blanket (which measured 38 inches wide) I started with 53 chains. For the sample I'm showing in the video, I started with 17 chains. So if you started with 53 chains, you are on the right track. Keep crocheting until the end of your chain.
What color yarn did you use?
I didn't make a note of that and I threw away the label 😭
i think it's misty gray
can I print off the pattern
I have it available as PDF file in my Etsy shop: www.etsy.com/listing/1014922214

Please share pouncho, blusa pattern
I really appreciate your tutorial but I'm frustrated because you didn't demonstrate how to do the 3rd row and I don't understand what you're saying in the video. I'll buy the pattern and hopefully that'll clear it up for me.
The 3rd row and all the following rows are crocheted exactly the same as row 2.
@@OlgaPoltava I understand that part, it wasn't clear where to put the stitches.
Umm can you make a video where you go slower I’m very confused but helpful thanks
Hi! Unfortunately I can't make the same video again, I don't even have the same yarn anymore. But there is an option in the settings to watch the video at a slower speed; perhaps that will help.
@@OlgaPoltava ok thank you!
How do I learn how to crochet-?!??
Hi Hailey, there are lots of videos on RUclips for complete beginners, you can search for them. I was thinking about creating a series of videos for learning to crochet from zero, but I'm not sure when I'll start doing that and if any of my viewers will be interested in that kind of videos.
@@OlgaPoltava thank you so much !
As a child, my mother and grandmother tried and tried to teach me to crochet. I could make a chain stitch a mile long lickety split, but to turn my work and come back across was where it stopped. No matter how they tried it never made sense, it wasn't a right handed vs left handed issues either, we were all right handed, I just couldn't get it.
I took a beginner's knitting class and took to it like a duck to water. My mother asked "How are you able to work two needles but you can't work one?" LOL. Not sure, but I love knitting.
While searching RUclips for some knitting ideas I ran across some beginner's crocheting videos and thought I would give it another whirl. Low and behold, I have learned to crochet!! I love it as much as knitting (and you see results of your work quicker than knitting). I have no idea why I couldn't learn from two very good crocheters but I was able to learn with the videos...maybe because the videos are presented/shot in a "from your point of view" like the video's are being shot over the instructors shoulder, but it actually looks like YOU are doing it, and the good thing is you can pause and rewind as often as you need to learn it. Seek out these videos, they are great and will help you, believe me. Good luck 😁
You tube is great for learning crochet, good luck with your new hobby.
I love to crochet. I love the tutorials but it is very helpful to have a simple how to crochet book.
yes i hate this yarn cause i suck
Can’t learn nothing she goes way to fast
Slow down the video in your settings
I use slo-mo ALL the time. Click the gear in the lower right and choose your speed 😃
Go to settings and turn on captions.
There is a way to slow down the vidio using the gear ⚙️ looking icon. Usually when you tape the 3 dots at top of video. But she really is not going that fast. It's a v-stitch pattern. To make a V-Stitch, in the same stitch you work 1 dc, 1 Chain, 1 dc-all into the same stitch. Then you skip two chains and then work another dc. She ends with a dc, chain 3 turn, then just work a v-stitch into the v-stitch from the row below. End row by doing a dc into the top chain from the chain 3 from previous row. Then chain 3 and turn. Then repeat v-stitch into every v-stitch. If you are not able to follow her vidio or the written instructions than it is not her. You just need more practice crocheting.
You literally go too fast to even teach someone.
Hi Tori, thank you for your feedback! I'll definitely keep it in mind for the future videos. Also, in the settings, there is an option to watch the video at a slower pace.
@@OlgaPoltava even at the slower pace I couldn’t 😭
@@toribeall6756 Sorry 😔
I like to pause the video in intervals so I understand what I am doing myself as I follow a pattern on here
