Really sad you guys didn't shit all over this K$N overpriced garbage and talked about the fliter. Super disappointing, this comes off as you're worried about upsetting them for future sponsor spots. There was nothing good about this product at all.

Marty is correct, if it sounds good it's going to be good. That homemade hot rod plumbing work every time. Just add a some pantie hoses to the pod for extra filtration. 👨🔧👨🏻🔧
It's insane indeed, my intake replaces everything to the turbo, is mainly black powder coated metal with welded on brackets for easy bolt on install and uses silicone pipes for the bends and was about 300 euro
I would argue it's platform dependent. If it's easy to fab and pipe yeah K&N (and arguably every other CAI kit) is a rip off. But if you're in California, part of those $400 for the brand can also be applied to having a CARB sticker so when a cop pulls you over you can tell them to go fuck themselves. Course that only really works if you're in CA
The TU5JP4 engine has that kind of intake to reduce induction noise. The best thing to do is actually keep the stock airbox, get rid of the resonator box, remove the fog light and add an elbow to get fresh air. The cup cars used this system
Marty needs to get a small rattle can of black spray bomb to give the $500 look to His clod air system. A K&N filter & His would be just as good. 😎👌 $500 for Moog's setup was a rip off! 🤯

The one positive to the replacement intakes that few people mention is simplifying the engine bay and added knuckle space. Makes access to other service parts like headlights so much better. Just my 2 cents.
I had the option of fitting a pod filter to my Eunos but in the end I just drilled a few 50mm holes in the airbox underneath the filter for added induction noise and left the standard filter in place. Made zero difference to the power but the extra noise made me smile every time I pressed the accelerator. And after I fitted a new exhaust and manifold I couldn't hear it anyway so I'm glad I didn't waste any money on it 😂
The only thing i would've changed with Marty's improvised run is swapped the 90 he's holding at 4:36 for two more 45's and a bit of straight pipe. That way the air doesn't need to make that narrow 90 twice. If you improvise this kind of stuff, it's good to avoid narrow 90's as much as you can, same rules as house ducting, but... in pipping for liquids, you don't need a soft 90, so there's none to buy (not at that size anyways). Also, PVC is perfectly good for the engine bay, by the time it melts, your wires are going to short on account of losing the insulation. One can step up their game and go with fire proof piping, used in modern buildings. That stuff is even higher on the melting point, and decent if you happen to pass near something very hot.
Actually shocked you went with that junk instead of a Simota intake system for the Swift after putting so much emphasis on getting actual JDM parts in previous videos. The Simota one is similar price to the K&N but at least keeps the intake side at the front of the vehicle and is properly shielded as well.
With as much as they talk about getting jdm parts, I'm very surprised they haven't touched a single thing from Monster Sport yet. They are the king when it comes to the Swift.
Yes I think the lads have been mucking about with other intake instead of research and Dyno this round. Or they know it's just daft and made a token gesture of it?
Air velocity matters greatly in an intake. If you stick a 3 inch intake on a 2 inch TB, all the air is going to get turbulent at the choke point and hurt performance. You'd be better off running a 2 inch tube on a 2 inch TB. So if you slap one of those $20 ebay intakes on your ride, chances are it will be nice and loud but no gains or worse, loss in power. I did this with my 96 Infiniti G20. Went from stock to ebay intake, felt sluggish, put the stock tube back on with the pod filter, and got power. Then I read an article about intake air velocity and flow and decided to make my own intake. Went to Pepboys and got intake tubing the same size as the throttle body, drilled my own holes and it definitely felt the best of all 3 combos. Never tested it on a dyno or anything but there was a noticeable difference between the 3. So now I'm pretty selective when picking out intakes.
This will be interesting alright. Moog could have just dropped in a K&N panel filter for cheaper. It would be interesting to compare the K&N pod filter versus panel filter
I concur. That's exactly what I do with my own cars. Lose the resonator box and extra tubes and slap a K&N panel filter in for about $60 USD. Great sound and a slight increase in revving quickness due to less restriction.
It is amazing to be able to watch this from the US. I ❤️ youtube for allowing me the opportunity to watch and say great job, thanks marty and moog, i love ❤️ your show!!!

Marty should look into a k&n drycharger bag. It covers your filter and is supposed to keep mud and water out of your filter. It isn’t waterproof, but is hydrophobic so if you splash water it won’t get past it.

We actually made a snorkel very similarly to that. We used a bit of pvc out of the bay and hooked it up to flexible downspout that we ran from the pvc up the a pillar. Worked great, sounded awesome and for a fraction of the price it was all we needed for a mud truck

Man I’m disappointed in the tuners analysis of these after market intakes, he hyped up the hot air K&N intake with lots of turbulent piping, whilst roasted the true cold air, smooth, long tubed pvc intake.
Marty's $50 special hands down because the filter isn't getting hot air from sitting above the engine, Moog's "CAI " pipe is "hopeful psychological" at best. I made a PVC intake that never failed on my old MX5 track car, which also lasted longer than any RB engine that was in my street and track R33 boat
From my experience- CAI are good when coupled with other mods. I didn't get one until I got a larger turbo back exhaust, larger intercooler, larger pump/injectors, etc. That way you only need one tune as well.
A DIY tip for PVC intercooler piping is to fill a long length with fine beach sand cap off each and leave it in the sun on a hot day or help it with a hair drier and then bend it to the shape of your engine bay let it cool then remove all the sand and presto, you have no joins. The sand prevents it from kinking so you'll have even diameter.
Hard to believe it would work with that diameter. Sure it works for computer cooler hard tubing or greenhouses, but here the pipe wall thickness to kink size ration is not on your side, as the plastic needs to stretch around the kink and there simply is not enough of it.

Genuinely think you'd have been better off just changing the panel filter for a high flow one. Modern intake systems are generally far superior to anything you can buy off the shelf. There's a few different systems for my 208gti and in a comparison test, all the induction kits currently available lost plenty of power over stock and the k&n and pipercross panel filters had a marginal gain.
I’ll forever watch mcm, you two don’t need go into the “RUclipsr mind” of over the top thumbnails. I met moog many many years ago at an auto barn near dural, he was so bloody nice and I hope I can catch Marty in the wild just like that one day.

For $20 i bought a used fmic kit for a twin turbo liberty. heaps of stainless pipes and different silicon joiners and a bunch of hose clamps. made up a cold air kit for my impreza, yanked out the foglight and put a filter right behind it. not bad, dorts good.
Great Video. I don't have a Jeep yet, but when the time comes, I want the Jeep Grand Cherokee L and want to upgrade the intake and exhaust. Thanks again.
I went to an exhaust shop and had them bend exhaust pieces for my turbo ducting. Worked extremely well and cost about $80 for the old air and both pipes from the turbo to the intercooler and intercooler to the intake hat.
I did also put a pod filter on the 206(not for HP but for fun) it just fits perfectly on the stock inlet pipe no need for the extra piping and no need to get an adapter for the MAF sensor if you wanted to do it real cheap. Sad I just got rid of my 206 few days before Marty bought his
I made my own intake for my BH Subaru wagon (US Outback) out of ABS pipes and rubber joiners. I used the factory 'air horn' that feeds air from just above the radiator, bringing in cold outside air, then made a straight run to the elbow to the factory airbox, eliminating the extra bends and intake mufflers. Sounds better, better throttle response on tip in, and seems to improve torque pulling longer grades. Importantly, though, I did this 12+ years ago. It is still holding up. I also still have the factory ducts, if I got crazy and decided to put it back.
I'm glad to see most comments agreeing the expensive system is junk. The PVC would be just as good if anything the tube would flow better not being convoluted you could even buy a K&N for Martys for like $100. Moogs filter was tiny. You can get a similar SAAS kit for like $60 with convoluted tube and pod in a box.
Project Farm made a comparison of drop-in filters including K&N and while they do open up the airflow a lot, they're actually pretty poor in terms of filtration
I always leave the stock airbox and just put a K&N drop-in filter that I replace every few years (I don't bother cleaning and re-oiling. Too much risk to the MAF). But the airbox itself is literally one of the last things I would ever touch. This doubles to help when you get pulled over because it looks more stock so cops kind of overlook the smaller details that would give it away.
In my corolla from the same era I just popped in a K&N filter that fits in the factory box. I don't think it does all that much but sounds nice and chuffy.
Marty's "custom" intake has some clear advantages in the pod filter/intake design, It's construction is PVC, very smooth surfaces and slightly less bends comparing to the stock intake, The filter pleting is plentiful compared to the K & N, and the stock filter, Main problem lies in the bends of the 90* elbows in the PVC setup, Air doesn't like to change direction abruptly and will cause reversion upon coming up on the corners of the PVC, Plastic is a somewhat a good heat insulator so the cold air will remain somewhat cold. Moog's K & N setup has few disadvantages, no pro's i can see, aside from the K&N name plastered on the pod filter, The negatives are the corrugated tubing, this causes turbulence in the intake ducting, bad for power, The K&N filter is a tad small? and the filter pleting is close together, choking the engine, oh, forgot the other disadvantage, the $500 price tag. Regardless, there is no such thing as a "Superior Performance, superior filtering air filter" You can only get one or the other. Filter less = more air = More power, BUT less air filtered so you get dirt and dust in the motor. Superior filtering = less power = cleaner intake air. Just some thoughts watching this video. Something interesting to research on also is: Intake sonic pulse tuning, something i didn't cover in my long paragraph, read up on it, it's interesting. I believe that's what Scotty might have been thinking of, Intake runner length can be detrimental or quite a powerful tuning skill to have. Regardless of what i wrote, it's been a while since i heard Moog's *I N T H E B I N*
I made a PVC cold air intake when I was a young lad and did it nice and low, hydrolocked the motor first rain we had. Whoopsies ended up being more expensive than if I just spent the money on a proper intake.
We carried out a scientific test with a KandN panel filter, on a merc 190 (a panel filter was cheaper than an oem filter) however we did drag runs comparing the times after 6 runs and the k and n was over 1second faster, arguably unnoticeable but still better.

Holy crap I knew Scotty was a big bloke, but he makes Marty and MOOG look like manlets. Is he 7 feet tall?
I think he said he's 6'9"
Honestly loving this series. An Aussie HiLow. Thank you lads
This suzuki is normally rusty pies of ..... Peugeot 206 xs is the best fwd 1.6 cars of 2000s . Brakes 283 from 306 gti-6 cup exhaust manifold, close ratio from c4 diesel camshafts from 106 s16 and this Suzuki Shitf is gone .
OH MY GOD I LOVE THE PVC INSTUMENT SOUNDS
For $20 i bought a used fmic kit for a twin turbo liberty. heaps of stainless pipes and different silicon joiners and a bunch of hose clamps. made up a cold air kit for my impreza, yanked out the foglight and put a filter right behind it. not bad, dorts good.
loving this series so far kinda makes me want to get a swift
Absolutely loving this series
Learning so much from this series!
YUSSSS TUNING FORK!!!😂😂😂❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊
I can see it now… 20+ episodes before the showdown!!! Looking forward to each and every one ✌🏼
Keen to see what you do with the exhaust! Loving this vid series
Hyped on this series ! 👍🏻
Great Video. I don't have a Jeep yet, but when the time comes, I want the Jeep Grand Cherokee L and want to upgrade the intake and exhaust. Thanks again.
Loving this new series!😀
Oh Moogs face after his revs… and how quick the transition to end credit- hilarious
Hahahaha I have been a mate of Billsy's for 20+ years and I had totally forgotten about the pvc intercooler pipes 😂 they actually worked
Thankyou Mighty Car Mods!!! Love your work ❤
Dort...Dort...Dort...mmmmm...They both sound great.
Moog, i think you can use back the front part of the airbox to blow some air to the open pod
What no black "go faster" paint for your PVC intake Marty? Where is that Mighty Car Mods style?? Loving the new shirts!
Filter Wears makes pre filter that wicks water off. Highly recommend, I use it on my turbo ls.
Regardless, there is no such thing as a "Superior Performance, superior filtering air filter"
You can only get one or the other.
Filter less = more air = More power, BUT less air filtered so you get dirt and dust in the motor.
Superior filtering = less power = cleaner intake air.
Just some thoughts watching this video.
Something interesting to research on also is: Intake sonic pulse tuning,
something i didn't cover in my long paragraph, read up on it, it's interesting.
I believe that's what Scotty might have been thinking of, Intake runner length can be detrimental or quite a powerful tuning skill to have.
Regardless of what i wrote, it's been a while since i heard Moog's *I N T H E B I N*
Orchy! Now that's a blast from the past!
i love it when Scotty immediately have an opinion when seeing marty's creation but decide to shut it.
I have build my own intakes many times.
Ku&an filter, so I don’t get shit in my engine, then built the pipe work and heat shield myself. 🤟🏻
Loving the series!
The piping for the K&N filter was a surprise
I made a PVC cold air intake when I was a young lad and did it nice and low, hydrolocked the motor first rain we had. Whoopsies ended up being more expensive than if I just spent the money on a proper intake.
We carried out a scientific test with a KandN panel filter, on a merc 190 (a panel filter was cheaper than an oem filter) however we did drag runs comparing the times after 6 runs and the k and n was over 1second faster, arguably unnoticeable but still better.
:) That Peugeot 206 sounds nice after the filter swap!
I wasn't expecting that response lol 😂
Always seen scotty sitting in cars, he’s a giant!
I put cheap £30 filter on my mazda speed 3 and was OK, then bought expensive typhoon kit and was soo much better, worth the cost depending on the car
Finally, an expert that makes Marty and Moog look short!
