Cool to see Dave from Custom Spray Mods on the show. I remember the competition they were running and was disappointed he didn't win but glad he kept going regardless (don't think the winner did unfortunately). I've been a subscriber of his channel ever since and his shop VG Auto Paints is now my go-to for anything paint related. Funny to see him fan-boying and a bit nervous too. Can't say I'd be any different.
I remember custom spray modz!! I used his and your RUclips videos to paint my spoiler on my first car! Awesome too see it all comes together, years later 😀
I am not going to lie, I really appreciate that you sold the bumper cover. I just remember that one honda you did with mint panels and then proceeded to jump on them. All of us poor people (and people with cars you can't find parts for) just died inside.
I had a boring Corolla. And I loved it. In the end it just did everything I needed a car to do, and it was a quiet, comfortable drive. Good to see issues being fixed too, and not just tarted up.
Dave is a bloody legend and Custom Spray Mods is my 2nd favourite RUclips channel - I've been wondering for a while of how long before he makes an appearance on MCM!✌️🤙
Great video.! I recently bought a 2009 Corolla with 180k for 3k USD it was neglected as equally as this Rolla. Now I'm really motivated to bring this daily I bought Around to "acceptable standards" I tend to forget how satisfying it is to make something better just by dedicating a little bit of time and money to your car.
Being a long time viewer, and also an avid car buyer/seller, it's awesome to see these kind of videos. Keeps the older cars on the road and extra money in your pocket.
@@GeoffSlack Even the water he drained from the spare wheel well was clean, maybe it had been raining before he bought it? Also, my guess is that the clean water behind the tail light was from the pressure wash & rinse.
I’m so glad you finally featured Dave from custom spray mods!! I’ve watched him since he uploaded his videos for that competition. Learnt so much from his vids. Forever grateful for his helpful advice that’s helped cheaply tart up some of my crappy cars!!
Hey MCM, I absolutely LOVE the return to everyday car skills. Don't get me wrong, the trips to Japan and the super tuned amazing cars are also great content. But with the economy the way it is, it's great to see you returning to basic, real world life skills that will genuinely help people save some money on their own cars.
One thing Marty missed with buying and fixing up old shit boxes. You buy low km examples, even in shit shape. That way, when you're done, the KMs make sense. It's like the old addage of buying the worst house on the most expensive street. I've made great money on some boring but genuine low km cars. Fix up that stupid subie all you want. Do you just need to get to A-B, reliably, and without fuss, and dont care about anything else? The corolla is hands down the best car out there for that. And thats why people buy them.
Had one of this little nugget for two years, in black, but also auto. My brother used it after me. It was 16 years old, in pristine condition, when it got totaled while parking on the sidewalk. Great car.
Dirty and negelcted cars in decent technical conditions are so easy to flip, if you know how to deep clean a car inside and out. Especially getting seats, carpet, dash and door panels close to a new look, is such a huge selling point. Once you have the chmicals and tools (like the washing vac), this is easy to pull off.
Back in 2012 when traveling in Australia I bought a 93 Honda integra VTIR had the 1.8 B18b engine I beleive. Awesome little vtec rocket. I imagine that's got to be in the 8-10k Australian now. Wish I had brought that back to the UK.
Great video. Also shows how you can get yourself a super budget nugget and make something reasonable for yourself. Great to see cars kept on the road as well!!
I had a E12 Corolla hatchback TS with the 2ZZ-GE for ten years and it also suffered from a massive water leak in the boot. Took me some time to find what it was caused by. It was the boot door´s seal ! It´s cliped on a sheet metal edge that´s two layers of sheet metal, beside the part where the catch sits. I´ve ended up glueing the seal on what solved the issue. On a side note: If the seal is pulled and put back on with the bumper on the car the seal wont sit correctly with the outer lip against the car´s body what adds up to the issue with the partly single layer edge.
I have recently purchased a non-running bmw to try to flip. I should have gone with a corolla -- my project had so many parts that belonged IN THE BIN. lol You and Marty are a big part of my goal to pursue my passions and try to find a good friend to enjoy it with. Thanks for all the years of entertainment :D
Stock means longevity. On my 05 camry with over 250k, having the exhaust overhauled to seal all the holes that happened over time, made such a huge improvement for how it drove. No crazy performance exhaust, just fixing the stock original part. It made it shift and run so much smoother, i no longer worry the transmisson might be going because now it runs flawless. Amazing what just restoring the stock function does if you do a good job :)
Honestly taking handles out on this car is so straight forward and easy I'm surprised they didn't come out. Newer Toyota's have an electronic plug that's a bit tricky but with a hook shaped pick is simple to remove also
Eh, I think you can make pretty good assessments of people over the phone and via their social media accounts; even a $200 deposit is worth the risk to secure a good buy.
I think that scam is done where they get the seller's email and then scam the email with fake transfer failures due time fake transfer limit and then ask seller to transfer some money to their account to fix it and then do a runner... As long as seller's are aware of those tactics there's nothing wrong with leaving a genuine deposit
@sAmiZZle82 that is but one way. It's actually very difficult to get your money back when you do a legitimate deposit directly to the person. It has to be proven that you really were prevented from completing the purchase.
I really love this series. It's a fun competitive challenge but also it shows people how to restore cars to their full potential. This could be for themselves (like a P plater buying their first car) or to make some extra money while times are tough. Great job as always guys!
Search online, make contact, transfer money, pick up car, go to SCA, go to breakers yard and unbolt bits, make photos, upload details to internet, take calls, wait for people to show up etc etc. All time definitely not counted but which should be. But even if they spent 2-3 days, $2980 still ok.
@@FFM0594 It's about WORK TIME ON THE CAR not all the time you spent on it. Do you get paid for the time you travel to work? Nah, neither they counted it. So it shoudn't be in totals. But, as you said to which I agree: even 2-3 days (or a week) is still a good profit (for a poor person like me :P ). Peace!

In south africa this version of a corolla is called a RunX and is very rare and sought after ...so honestly just a manual swop and a respray would make it worth a lot more over here...
A good flip for sure. Some costs to consider: tools, materials, fees, transportation, inspection. Some of those costs amortize cheaper over time, like tools. Some are fixed, like getting insurance and registration (in Canada). Carfax history check $40-$60. Many people will not buy a car thats not registered to the seller. Most cars over 5-10 years old require an insurance inspection about $80-$150. Temporarily Driving an unregistered car to a shop or home has some costs to work around, or a towing fee. And the rarity factor, cars like in the video are a rare find. Just some things to consider. Stay gold.

I bought a WRX with a swimming pool in the back and I was forever chasing myself trying to rid the car of that stank. It made your clothes smell which was just gross. Reason for the leak? The idiot who resprayed it, sprayed the wing with the seals on, didn’t change them, and stuck it back on. Was a bit of a sus car and sus purchasing experience, and I made $30 for like, tens of hours faffing around I also made my own tail light seals with some foam from Clark rubber by tracing out the originals onto cardboard then cutting them out. Worked a charm!
I'm currently chipping away at my neat little Corolla I bought as a temp car to get around in, and am going to be selling it for $2k profit from what I paid for it! They are amazing cars. I polished my wheel nuts- came up like new and I prefer the look of the black factory rims, painted those and they came up like new. Good to know where the leak in my boot is coming from too!!! Thanks for that. I had no idea. Seems like they all have the same problem.

Yup, that was a shitty move, could've warped the door. No need replace the whole door mirror as only the back cover was missing. Clip on a replacement white back cover, job done. Good all round video nonetheless. 👍🏻
Will Moog still try to kick something off again?...
Without question. lol
🤦♀️
Just thought of a good episode. How to remove old broken mirror the most impressive way without damaging the car😂
I bought a Colt that wouldn't start, and was filthy inside. $900 with 9 months rego. Tow $120. Fixed stuck open injector with percussive maintenance. Serviced $110, cleaned inside $10 in chemicals, set of tyres and alignment $440, new floormats and seat covers $90. Pulled a few dents, touched up chips, polished and waxed $30 in materials. Touchscreen headunit with bluetooth off gumtree $50. Bout 10 hours of labour all up. Drove it like I stole it for 2 months and sold it for over $6k within four hours of posting it. This was in 2018 and I still see it around.
I don't know what percussive maintenance is, but it sounds interesting!
@@mediocreman2 Involves hammers!
If you held out till 2020 Covid or post Covid you might have been able to get 10k. Used car market and project cars went through the roof.
if this is true, why have you not sold another car in 6 years?????????
What is holding you back?????
This is your best series I think. It's so satisfying to see you fix up cars that would normally be on a downhill trajectory to the scrapyard.
Same here, feeling the nostalgia, I used to watch custom spray mods and his vids were great. I actually just forgot about the channel
Right! I remember MCM using VGA to get premixed spray cans in an early video, I did the same then used his videos for tips on the painting process!
What a sweaty legend dave is!
Being a long time viewer, and also an avid car buyer/seller, it's awesome to see these kind of videos. Keeps the older cars on the road and extra money in your pocket.
Little tip for people struggling with boot leakage: put some ink in a bottle of water, pour it on the area and you can see the path the water takes
That water was far too clean...
@@GeoffSlackI thought the same
@@GeoffSlack Even the water he drained from the spare wheel well was clean, maybe it had been raining before he bought it? Also, my guess is that the clean water behind the tail light was from the pressure wash & rinse.
I’m so glad you finally featured Dave from custom spray mods!! I’ve watched him since he uploaded his videos for that competition. Learnt so much from his vids. Forever grateful for his helpful advice that’s helped cheaply tart up some of my crappy cars!!
Great video. The tips alone from the painter and photographer are gold alone and useful for anybody wanting to fix up or sell cars.
1:20 .... you didnt type in "toyota corolla" at aaaaaaall xD hahaha i laughed way to much!
Dave is an absolute champion. He did a job for me on my wrx spoiler about 10 years ago and would honestly recommend him to all my family and friends.
Its still got 350kms.

Custom spray mods is actually a really good channel I’ve been subscribed for years now
So good to see these channels finally colab, CSM was the channel that inspired me to try painting 12 years ago
Corollas are hands down the best car. They may not be the most fun, but a manual Corolla can be a little fun, while very reliable and very practical.
Except if your tall lol, I have to stick to the camry
Had an 08 sedan with 6 speed manual from new
Its now done 175,000km and the only things done are general maintenance, a couple of batteries and a drives side door hand
Great cars
Close to 350,000km on my 1.4 D4D Corolla.
Do you just need to get to A-B, reliably, and without fuss, and dont care about anything else? The corolla is hands down the best car out there for that.
And thats why people buy them.
@@TheOneZoot High roof 1988 Corolla 4wd Wagon for you then sir.
Had one of this little nugget for two years, in black, but also auto. My brother used it after me. It was 16 years old, in pristine condition, when it got totaled while parking on the sidewalk. Great car.
Woof! The underside of that valve cover had some crazy oil varnish.
Just to be honest, these tips will also work on motorcycles.
Thannks guys!!
Saying hi from the Philippines!
Yes but here in Australia motorcycles are much harder to keep registered, even a weeping fork seal will fail registration
15yrs and you are still cracking me up. Thank you! Paint tools - in the bin! break out the rattle cans!

Great seeing Dave on the channel. Remember his entry video and followed him ever since!
I have recently purchased a non-running bmw to try to flip. I should have gone with a corolla -- my project had so many parts that belonged IN THE BIN. lol
You and Marty are a big part of my goal to pursue my passions and try to find a good friend to enjoy it with.
Thanks for all the years of entertainment :D
Older bmws are a nightmare, speaking as one of their biggest fans 😂
Stock means longevity. On my 05 camry with over 250k, having the exhaust overhauled to seal all the holes that happened over time, made such a huge improvement for how it drove. No crazy performance exhaust, just fixing the stock original part. It made it shift and run so much smoother, i no longer worry the transmisson might be going because now it runs flawless. Amazing what just restoring the stock function does if you do a good job :)
lol...the : 'this, this, that, that' segment is Savagely good !
Honestly taking handles out on this car is so straight forward and easy I'm surprised they didn't come out. Newer Toyota's have an electronic plug that's a bit tricky but with a hook shaped pick is simple to remove also
Moog no! Deposits are the new scam. Always look at the car first or get and check the sellers details.
Eh, I think you can make pretty good assessments of people over the phone and via their social media accounts; even a $200 deposit is worth the risk to secure a good buy.
@qlimaxzuor you are correct, I can. But the amount of money being lost to scams is huge so clearly not everyone is wary enough.
They're multimillionaires. $200 isn't really a risk.
I'm calling bs on that 3 hours...
@cainpaul08 Did you watch till the end? 29:52 - explanation 29:55 - even more. Read between lines.
@@FFM0594 It's about WORK TIME ON THE CAR not all the time you spent on it. Do you get paid for the time you travel to work? Nah, neither they counted it. So it shoudn't be in totals.

Stay gold.
Sick vid as usual boys! Should probably include the stamp duty/rego transfer fees

Reason for the leak? The idiot who resprayed it, sprayed the wing with the seals on, didn’t change them, and stuck it back on. Was a bit of a sus car and sus purchasing experience, and I made $30 for like, tens of hours faffing around
I also made my own tail light seals with some foam from Clark rubber by tracing out the originals onto cardboard then cutting them out. Worked a charm!

It simply means the allocation of money toward an asset or portfolio, with the expectation of earning a return over time.
