I found the best way to define work offsets is to first model the stock like you want it positioned inside the model part (you can make it transparent) then create a sketch with a zero point and a line going away from that zero point in both x and y directions on the plane you wish to set your offset. Next I create a coordinate system with xy&z pointing in the proper direction using the sketch we just created. And lastly in the setup page you can define the stock from a solid and define the work offset by selecting a coordinate system. Works well for me..after its setup you can hide all the sketches to clean things up..

Thanks, I wish my Spanish was better. I worked next to a shop with several Spanish speakers, and all I picked up was the swear words! (And cerveza).

Using the "Adaptive Clearing" will simplify that pocket. learn to use that tool and it will save your time and tools.

Thanks for the tip, I did some adaptive on the CamWorks software, but the file sizes were absurdly huge. I think HSMWorks does better, but with my little gantry mill, I can't use full tool depth, the machine is just not stiff enough. Still, adaptive would let me move faster and with more consistent tool loads, always a good thing. Thanks again.

can we have CAM QUEST 2022?

Well, the thing is that CAM software does not change that much. A large code-base like a CAM program is pretty much un-maintainable, ask any programmer about what happens when you get over a few hundred thousand lines of code. So I would stick with my picks from 2020, HSMWorks for me and the subscription, SolidCAM for best function, but expensive, and I am sure I would still not like MasterCAM at all. Plus, I doubt some of the companies would give me another trial version to evaluate. I would be interested to see if VisualCAM got more capabilities, and less buggy, it was by far the easiest program to use.
