I'm Haitian and we make this too. Ours is call " Kremas" we add rum in ours too. Haitian rum. It's crazy how all the islands do similar things but have different names for them. I love my island ppl!
Hi! So far so good. At our house my grandma used a cheesecloth to get the milk because it’s thinner & absorbs less of the milk than a towel. She’d also use some of the coconut water to make a spiced tea & 151 Rum. She also never wasted good coconut pulp. She’d either use it to make a coconut Candy, or toast it with cinnamon sugar & use it in oatmeal or as a topping for ice cream or on arroz con dulce or coconut limber. I’m so happy you took the time to make this & show that our Traditional Coquito does contain eggs. Merry Christmas! Salud!
I just wanted to thank you. My mom pass away this October and I never took the time to learn all of wonderful recipes. So I would like to thank you for showing me how to make them. Thank you, you are great.
Good recipe I like it, My mom showed me how to make coquito from scratch. The recipe came from her mom. There are different recipes for all. Egg yolks are not always used since they are raw and not everyone can tolerate it. I do not use cinnamon for me it takes away from the coconut taste. yet, if someone likes it I sprinkle it on their drink. As for the rest of the coconut you can use it in arroz dulce or make dulce de coco. You add brown sugar and cook it. Also my mom took some of it and sprinkIed some on the coquito for those who like it. I love Christmas. Que viva Puerto Rico Feliz Navidad.
How are you ? Im glad you enjoyed the video. Yes some people like it with eggs and others without. Thank you for sharing your ideas as well. I love you for following!
Luv your recipe, my mom who is 82 yrs young uses egg yolks in her coquito. The only difference is that once the eggs were added to the liquid she would temper the mix on the stove till it reached a temperature that was warm, it took about 15 minutes, till it was creamy on top, and never let it boil. You want the egg yolks to cook so they are not raw in the mix. Mixing consistently though out the process. Once this was done and the liquid is cooled then she would add the alcohol and bottle the mix. Mom sold her coquito all over Brooklyn. 😀👍
Exactly I don’t use eggs , ponche or eggnog we say . I’m surprised no anise wasn’t added , cloves, real vanilla bean , n the use of cinnamon sticks is the real way in my opinion . But this version I will try .my mom wouldn’t throw out the shredded coconut , she made candy bars out of it . Yum
You are the real deal, I tried your recipe for sancocho for the first time from start to finish and WOW! let the memories roll. thank you for your generosity. Juan South Bronx via Cali.
+juan castro Thank you . Im glad you liked it. It is a very good recipe. so full of flavor. Thank you for following . Please Check out our website www.thefreakinricanrestaurant.com
Thanks for sharing this recipe. My mother use to grate fresh coconuts, too and added eggs to her coquito recipe. I notice a lot of recipes on RUclips don't add eggs and only use can milk. This brings back so many beautiful memories of my family when I was growing up. My mother is now gone...thanks for taking me back to my childhood. ❤🇵🇷❤
no don't throw that out coconut pulp!! put it on a cookie sheet and dry it out on the lowest setting in your stove.. then pop it in a food processor for fresh coconut flour!
+Monica Rodriguez lol, I love you Monica. I actually saved it and have it in the freezer. Just havent had time to do something with it. It will be a surprise. I'll keep you posted!
Bro you're channel is phenomenal I remember my grandmother grating the coconut when she was preparing coquito for the holidays you are awesome. You took me back to the good old times in life. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 🙏🏼💯👌
I made this for Christmas. It was my first time making it with real coconuts. It came out fantastic! It was a real hit with my family. Thanks for the recipe

Cheers! 🥂This is almost how my grandma made it and that's how I do it too.… we make a tea with spices and at it to the real coquito!! 💯Thank you so much for bringing so many memories and keep doing authentic recipes from our beautiful Puerto Rico & Happy Holiday Season!! ❣
@@alwayspushforward I know them in Spanglish *Tip: you can use google translator😉 Ingredientes para el “Té” del Coquito: Canela [4 sticks] Clavos [6 to 8 pcs] Anis estrella [3 to 4 pcs] Jengibre [2” inch pc, peeled, clean, cut into thin slices] Extracto de vainilla [2 tbsp] Nuez moscada [freshly ground] *Sal [una pizca] *Canela en polvo [as needed ~to garnish] ~~Todos los ingredientes son al gusto personal~ se puede poner o quitar dependiendo de su paladar~~

loved your recipe - authentic yes because you used REAL coconut water and milk! My grandmother taught me to dip the coconut shell in water (after we drained the water and cracked open) then in microwave for 45-seconds for the flesh to come off easier! It works. But, you have great videos!
We use a lot of fresh coconut milk in the Caribbean to cook so you could have added a bit of plain water to the blender and you would have gotten the desired amount of coconut milk, great video I love your energy

Do you, or does anyone have a recipe for how your grandmother, or great grandmother made coquito? I’m looking for a no cans version of the drink. Kinda like when someone makes pastellas they old fashioned way, maybe more authentic way.
Also, the coconut milk measured 2.5 cups (09:48), but you say you will still need to add some wannabe canned stuff. I guess my questions is how many cups does the recipe call for?

My PR friend did this with the fresh coconuts too but used a tea.
Yes, it is also made with a tea!
Cheese cloth is better to use to drain the milk from the coconut.. also drain each coconut into a empty bowl first. You may get a bad coconut and don't want to mix that with the good one..
This is the traditional coquito, with real coconut but I don't use eggs and I made a tea with all the spices, clove ,cinnamon , star anise, nutmeg .
When do you add the tea?
Can i use a cheese cloth instead of the rag
Exactly, of course.
BY THE WAY GREAT JOB

If I don't want to use fresh coconut milk.....how many cans of milk do I use?

You aren’t going to cook the eggs?
You have to try it with flor de caña is amazing
Looks good. Quick tip: try using a cheese cloth to extract the liquid. A lot easier! Good recipe.
Can you heat it so that the eggs are not raw? Will it change the taste? Also, will it be good without liquor?
I temper the eggs so it isn't raw. But I also do mine differently then this recipe.
