Restoration Of A Ruined Legend - Honda VFR 400 NC30 - Part 8

  • Well my friends here we are at the last episode of the Honda VFR400 NC30 restoration series and now that we are here I can honestly say its my best restoration to date but on the other hand I never want to work on an NC30 again! Why is that you may ask? well its just the fact that this project has been such an adventure what with the rarity of parts, the cost of restoration, waiting times, the complexity of some of the parts so one VFR restoration is more than enough for me lol. So in this episode I tackle the job I've been putting off the most and that's tackling the bodywork its in such bad condition getting it back to a state where the repairs could be done was a challenging in its self but once it was all painted and stickered up it looked a million dollars. Also in this episode I got the exhaust all cleaned up and fitted along with all of the other mechanical parts and that's about it I think.
    Enjoy.

I stand corrected. After a few comments and a bit or research it now seems much more likely that at some point the bike the bike was sporting a Mick Doohan Repsol replica paint job. Cheers Guys for pointing that out :)

Our favorite Scot is back! It sure is a treat watching you do your magic, my friend. It looks like that poor paint stripper worked some major overtime getting those poor panels deglazed of all that paint. It’s hard to believe it took you such a long time to get them back to bare plastic. This project sure was a handful, but I’m glad you got it all completed to perfection. She sure is a beauty, and no corners were cut, as always. Your skills are otherworldly, keep up the great work. Thank you for always giving us your very best, my friend. Take care of yourself, and we’ll see you on the next one.

I think what is so impressive is not only your skills, but the range of skills. There doesn't seem to be anything you can't do to an incredible standard (apart from the seat upholstery, but I bet you could if you wanted to!). Absolutely marvellous and to bring this bike back to showroom - or better - condition is a treat to watch.

It's hard to believe it's the same bike to what it was like when you started out. Just a fantastic watch to when you started out on your journey to what the bike should have looked like. 😮😊

That is absolutely amazing. I restored my old 2 stroke but nothing close to what you did. It’s a new machine. Totally not worth riding around in salty roads. Keep it up

Awesome! What a great choice of bike to restore. A wonderful era, when manufacturers particularly Honda had a real focus on quality. I had one as a track bike, the engine is sublime 👌

It never fails to amaze how a simple coat of paint gives a piece an entirely new life and erases every scar it suffered in its previous life. I reckon I'd just buy an entirely new set of panels and put these up for sale for the handyman with money to burn... but that's another $500 compared to probably $30 and an hour or two in repairs.

absolutely gorgeous, props to you son, one of Hondas finest, the 400v4 is exclusive and I am 110% positive its a HOOT to ride! id be on the hunt for another engine to build, a lot you can get and do to those today not that they are used so extensively in world racing, with proper funding you can easily double HP naturally aspirated, 90-100 hp boy that be something

The TT, quite a virtual test drive you gave to that VFR, magnificent restoration as always! I have a VFR 750 1991 and want a restoration on that level, but nobody in my country dares to take on such project.
