  • Hello and welcome to the final episode of the Ducati 916 restoration but before I go any further I'll just drop this in here
The link to my Patreon account and you can check that out if you'd like - / rrcrestoration and now ill get on with the description
So as you've already seen by the thumbnail this episode finishes off the restoration of the bike. So the first job on my very long to do list was to get the coolant system all back in place but before i could do that i needed to get the coolant reservoir back into tip top condition this was done in the usual manner by chucking it in the ultrasonic cleaner. While the reservoir was cleaning i set about fitting the radiator and all the major coolant hoses once this was done the reservoir was clean and ready for fitting.
After that i began fitting all the wiring looms and instrument clusters and hooking everything up and being careful to route everything just the same way that it was when i found it and as the bike fired straight up i must've got all the wiring correct.
Then i set my sights on getting the oil breather condenser bottle as it was looking very tatty and not suitable for going back in the frame... yet. I peeled all the old heat foil off and gave the bottle a good clean in the parts washer and then once dried i spray on a little adhesion promoter so that my new heat reflective foil would stick well and then applied said foil and installed the condenser back into the frame.
I then tackled the job i was dreading and that was the exhausts as they were very heavily tarnished. I applied a acidic cleaner to the stainless steel that removes the tarnish but doesn't eat into the metal or affect the polished surface this was aided by a stiff nylon brush and then the acid was rinsed off and neutralized and as you can see by the video the exhausts came up just lovely then it was a simple job of fitting them.
Once the exhaust system was on that was the last of the major mechanical pieces fitted so i then moved to my clean room and began the fun job of fitting the fairings and of course as soon as the tank was on i just had to fire up the bike and make sure everything was all good and im very pleased to say it was, pure Ducati thunder :). So after hearing that glorious noise i was spurred on to get the rest of the bike built and stickered up and of course as i said in the video the choice of the Termignoni stickers are yours to make.
Then it was the obligatory ending shots featuring before and after's
And that brings this episode to a close im afraid but i will be back again soon with the next one.
As usual i really hope you enjoy this series of videos and leave a like and a comment to let me know what you think.
    Enjoy

I haven’t owned a bike since the mid 80’s but I really appreciate what you have done with this restoration. I’m sat at home with a stinking cold and have just binge watched every episode. The editing is fabulous and very professional, at no point did I feel I needed to fast forward anything because you did it for me! Although I’m a car man I really appreciate bikes especially the 916, in my opinion the best looking bike ever made.

It's so beautiful! I vote to put the exhaust stickers on it. I went through a lot of pictures online and have seen many examples with it and many without it. But if it came with them from the factory I believe it would be appropriate for this level of restoration where accuracy is preferred over artistic license. The same goes for a car with Brembo brakes on it. I prefer to see the Brembo logo if it came off of the assembly line that way. Or in the case of my Camaro, ZL1 on the calipers rather than Brembo. Another amazing restoration! The looks great next to the Super Sport 600 (which is actually my favorite bike out of the 3) -Shane

I prefer the looks without stickers, but you have a point, if it came with from the factory, then in my opinion you should put them back on :)

Beautiful bike! I've loved them since 1994 when I chased one on the German Autobahn in my brand spanking new Saub 900T from Frankfurt to Munich. I wasn't even going to Munich I lived in Bad Kreuznach the opposite direction. We started running together and I just got caught up in the run. Thank God he was cool with a slow 127 mph. I got used to vehicles screening past me at 120 mph but it's always exhilarating. Raced to Munich, stopped at the same station to refill, and headed home..

My first observation was the enormous jump in motorcycle engineering both mechanically and electrically in the 20 years after my Kawasaki Z1 was built. The 916 set a new benchmark that influenced all sports bikes that followed. The second is how multi-talented you are; most restorers, even the most highly regarded ones, sub out jobs like blasting, plating and painting whereas you do everything yourself and you have all the kit to do it. This is a showpiece on how a top class restoration should be conducted and a fabulous tutorial for anyone wanting to attempt anything similar.

Stunning restoration, earned my sub for sure. The 916 is by far my most favorite Ducati ever, such a beauty, form and function at it's finest!!

Without a doubt the best looking bike ever made. Awesome video series. Thanks so much for all the work.

I've loved watching this build, and definitely Termi tickers on.
I'd love to see a Honda NC30 or something similar as the next build 😊

Absolutely gorgeous work, you are a true craftsman. The level of detail in everything you do is just incredible. One vote for the Termignoni stickers to be put on. They’re just how these bikes should look.

She's a real beaut! I love how the exhaust it held together by springs. Beautiful shade of yellow as well.

Can only imagine how pleased you were to find a brand new exhaust under all that tarnish! Needs stickers for me, just finishes off the rear end 👍

Loved the series, a real pleasure to watch, great job! I am doing a restoration of my own and was intrigued by the results you had when cleaning the reservoir in the ultrasonic cleaner - what fluid did you use to get it so clean? Can’t wait for your next project.
