As a player of Destiny, I found this to be a perfect review in every way. Discussing its clear strengths, and even clearer weaknesses. I wish IGN would be this thoughtful, accurate & fair in every one of it's reviews (cough call of duty)
+Marlon Rodrigues i think battlefront is going to better. lmao it may not have a story or whatever but at least it knows what it is and its not gonna be a grindfest bs
Steven Stauffenenbeurrgettezeinschiesseznerschnell what ever new announcements have come out wont make BF a grindfest like destiny lol its a multiplayer game without the lottery loot system
Steven Stauffenenbeurrgettezeinschiesseznerschnell id rather battlefield style grind than destiny style grind. you got people playing repetitive missions over and over and over and over and over again for the chance they get a good item and even if they do its equivalent to a scratch off ticket since its a lottery system. at least in battlefront it knows its an only multiplayer game akin to a titanfall or whatever. id rather play a game like that than invest my time doing what are essentially chores in a video game. the multiplayer dmatch is the best part of destiny and its hard to dive into since they say you gotta get to the end content weapons to even be able to compete with the op players of destiny. not to mention that star wars in its most basic form is far more interesting than any PoS story destiny has sold you sheep lol speaking of story destiny basically doesnt have a story mode either. theres no story. at least have a story in a story mode....
Steven Stauffenenbeurrgettezeinschiesseznerschnell not really imo. you dont need max level shit to compete/ you can own people with the default stuff if you're good enough
Zak Forbes More like idiots like yourself that don't know what review scores are not comparable across different genres. Destiny is a full priced adventure RPG and is compared against other RPG's and goat simulator is not...
Nick Motsarsky Whoa whoa whoa,I'm just saying I like Destiny and while liking Goat Simulator I think Destiny is better. Now I'm not saying it's the best game of all time (That goes to Grand Theft Auto 5 and Mortal Kombat X) But I still like Destiny.
+Zak Forbes ya destiny is a full on AAA game while goat simulator is a cheap indy. goat simulator isnt trying to be anything more then a silly simulator. the check lists are different which is why your comment is stupid.
clearly you have no idea what the traveler is literally making everything sustainable for life. why instead of asking about gravity why not ask how can they breathe? because of the traveler
So Destiny is the Jack Of All Trades. Good in every area, but not quite the best in any certain profession. It looks like it's trying too hard to be something it's not.
we'll see though because like a Diablo 3 a year from - now given content updates + a decade long promise from Bungie - this game might be in full stride.
I'm yet to purchase this game but I'm definitely going to give it a go, I love Halo & Borderlands and this looks like the two have been merged together.
antonio mangione Exactly. With all the time they took with the alpha and beta, who knows what updates they will put out for the game. Loot trading? Open chat? Higher level caps, extended storylines, decision making choices that will effect story?
AllBoosted Keep in mind 7.8 is the right score for this game. Its gameplay and mechanics make for great battles especially in co-op & multiplayer. Dont expect mcuh in way of story and you'll enjoy your experience.
So much hate for Destiny.. i'm glad I didn't listen to the haters. Destiny is one of the most fun games I have ever played.. & i'm usually not big into multiplayer, get bored with it in a day or 2. But Destiny is the first game i've played a multiplayer for over a week, & it's still fun & interesting, sometimes you just have to try things for yourself to see if it's good, & not listen to others. Was so hyped up that when it wasnt the best game ever to exists, everyone starts hating on it, rather then appreciate what it is. A good game overall. A phenomenal multiplayer, Borderlands + Cod + Halo = Destiny.
List of things that bugged me in this game. 1. Guns. I have noticed guns of the same level and tier didnt feel much different. I could only kill 3 or so dudes with one mag with all guns across each type. The lmg esque ar's were dumb as they were weak and had terrible recoil. 2. Missions. All missions consisted of "wait for this door" or "I'm hacking something" and then proceed to fight waves of the same enemies. Then fight a boss. Felt lazy. 3. Enemies. Every enemy had lame grunt enemies and swarm enemies. Along with one specialty enemy and a juggernaut type enemy. All bosses were just the specialty or juggernaut type enemy but it can eat bullets for days and 2 shot you. 4. strikes. Strikes were the same structure as missions and ended the exact same way. Fight a big Version of an enemy you fought before but this time, they eat even more bullets and can 2 shot you along with infinitely respawning Enemies. 5. Final story mission boss. Fight a big minotaur 4 TIMES ALONG WITH INFINITELY RESPAWNING ENEMIES. Way to end the story. 6. Raid. Fight a giant thing that can curse you to death with infinitely respawning enemies. Play domination with hordes of infinitely respawning enemies and fight yet another big minotaur that jumps threw portals that close if you lose a Dom flag to the horde... 7. Faction/vanguard points. Spend hours doing missions to allow you buy items that will be just as good as the guns you have because in the hours it took to get those points, you found weapons of equal strength. Same with armour. 8. "Balancing in pve and PvP" I don't think level 30 armour should be just as effective as level 5 armour of the same rarity just because I'm fight low level people/enemies. Same with the guns. A level 5 drag can still kill me at level 30 in the same amount of time as if I were level ten. High level armour/weapons only show their power when fighting high level foes. Dumb. Destiny: loot gear in Missions you've already played to do missions again that you've already played. Wow lots of fun.
+OPTSXFilosoofis halo 4 was the biggest waste of my money. 343's version of halo is like a Michael bay movie. there's no heart, and it's just explosions and comic book lore. it's trash. halo 4 deserves a 2. destiny deserves a 7.
I have about 80-85 hours in this game now. I have a level 28 Hunter, and a level 15 Warlock. I think now I have played enough to give an opinion on this game. First thing I have to say is, this game is insanely addictive. I think this is the most addictive game I have ever played. As for the story, it was mediocre at best, but the end the story is left wide open for expansion (Expansions for this game plus 2 more games with their own expansions expected to be released continuing off the story). I am not too worried about the story as of now because they have a lot of time to expand and improve on it. You don't just read the first chapter of a book and say it sucks, so I won't do it for this game. When you reach level 20, this is when the game gets extremely good, or bad depending on the type of game you like. If you are just a casual gamer who isn't willing to play hours on end to get the best gear, this is NOT for you. I myself really enjoy this kind of game which is why I am so addicted. The strikes may get a little repetitive, but there is always that excitement when you get something valuable at the end. There are bounties that don't have much variety, but do make you want to come back everyday and do them because their rewards are sometimes the best way to rank up gear. As for the raid, I found this to be one of the best parts of the game. You MUST gather 5-6 people in a fireteam (There is no matchmaking) and communication is key. The puzzles are interesting, challenging, and require a lot of coordination between everyone in the fireteam. For the PvE part of the game, I give it a 9/10. Now, the crucible is my least favourite part of the game. This is Destiny's competitive multiplayer and there are many problems with it. There are killtrades galore, lag (I have 120 down/10 up with a wired connection to my ps4 so it is NOT my internet) overpowered supers, maps are only close quarters except for maybe one, and every gun fight you are unsure if they have heavy ammo or theyre going to use there super or something op, so they can be unfair. I only have about 7 hours on crucible so I can't say much more about it because I bought this game mainly for PvE. There is obviously more I can say about the PvE and story but this review has gotten kind of long. I don't see this game as a game where you can give only one overall score since there are multiple parts of the game for different people.
***** Well yes, it was bad. However, the story isn't over and it does not have to be over when the game is over since there are already two more games planned to continue it.
Atomic Rebellion Well, maybe not but only because I'm a PC gamer and I don't like using a controller for FPS games. If it was on PC, then yes I could see myself playing it in March 2015.
Yes, lobbies and in-game clan team-up is needed. Still, we need more weapons, levels and enemies but I have a feeling that will come with the DLC. I'm glad I skipped their podcasts and daily video reviews about it because I don't want to listen to that much info on one game hahaha. I feel like it's an unfinished game at this point because there's no way to tell if there's something missing that may be added in later on at no cost (right now the PVP maps in the crucible are seriously lacking). If that's their angle, they need to communicate this directly to their players so they don't give up on the game and sell or trade it in. If I have to buy DLC to get more out of it I will likely just roll my eyes and have some long contemplation over whether or not to buy said DLC. Sad thing is, they've pretty much lost their 2.5 million dollar "quality bonus" from Activision because they didn't achieve a Metacritic score of 90 or greater because of it.
The review had many good points, but you still give it a 7.8? In it's current state I can't see it any higher than 6.5. The fact that the story was that abysmal and short is like minus 3 points straight up. The fact that the DLC is waved in your face as soon as you open the case isn't good either, you don't see the disc first, you see the words "EXPANSION PASS". I'm not going to really hold this against Bungie though, smells like Activision through and through. But I will hold Bungie accountable for the terrible story and lack of open-world (which I know wasn't really promised, but I did expect it from this game) Damn shame really, hopefully they fix a lot of the shit quick. Can we petition for a change like we did for ME3?
If a game is really hyped, take a pass. Wait for the bad reviews to roll in (no matter how good it is, it won't live up to hype.). After they destroy your expectations, buy the game and enjoy it
1. Gameplay 2. World 3. Missions 4. Multiplayer 5. Story 6. Graphics/Audio And you can't fault a game for not being what you wanted. It's like hating the game for not being about monkeys. That's your fault
iPlayDrums Not faulting it for not being what I wanted, I'm faulting it for literally being what NO ONE wanted. They fucked up. And your numbering there is way out, Graphics and Audio would be 1. by far, missions further down and story last.
fun fact Halo Reach has more content , a better longer story mode, more armor pieces, better multiplayer, more weapons and vehicles then Destiny and is free on xbox gold now imo Halo Reach is very similar to destiny in many ways but that could be just me?
Fun fact, the Xbox 360 has more Halo games than the Xbox One does, so need to upgrade just yet. And forget about Destiny, people still play Reach and Halo 4! Halo Reach is free for gold members in Europe at least!
No, it hasn't. They have not added anything to the game, just overly-priced $40 DLC, that in reality, adds very little to the game, but because of the immense amount of grinding that you have to do to get a decent item, it makes it seem like a lot. Destiny is a very manipulative game, and is designed to get you addicted based on scientific studies on addiction, and how it works. they make you (almost forcefully, due to what they do to you) want to buy the DLC to get those "TWO OVER POWERED GUNS" that take ages to get, while the last two got nerfed. I must say, this game is not AAA standards at all, this game robs you of money. I stand against the morals of this game.
totolycool 40 buck DLC for two guns and a shaders and shit lmfao, the games only purpose was to be put out a half assed game and sell pieces at a time.
*Admit it* Destiny is fun especially with your friends but the story mode is the weak point in the game. but it makes up with guns and boss And character selection You got: *The Hulk - Hulk Smash: Titan* *Vegeta - Big Bang Attack: Warlock* *Yusuke - Spirit Gun - Hunter* Gamescore: 7.5 Gameplay and Fun: 10 Admit it you had fun! Don't follow these people saying it over hype make you change your mind about the game most them are salty people that Bungie gone Multiplate
Totally agree with you, it's just fun absolutely demolishing anything in your way, it's a super fun game to play. Like you said, the story is weak, but it's all about the guns. I think people are taking this game too seriously, blasting through it as fast as possible and saying "I'm bored now", but never really appreciated the game.
People have to cut their Bungie fanboy shit out. I love Halo, not Bungie. Now that 343 industrie is making Halo, I like them more. I was pretty hyped for Bungies all new game, but it ended up being Borderlands 1.5.....NOT 2.5..... 1.5.. I say that because the environments, and amount of guns were lower than Borderlands 2. My opinion:Halo>Destiny Reviewersopinion: Halo>Destiny.
yallknow yea played the raid today id say it bought the game up like 2 points for me we are at the last boss in the raid on normal AND DAMN this is the best raid i have played
In ign defense they did give the taken king a 9/10. I can understand a lot of the reasons they had for the low score. Destiny has changed dramatically since release and ign has acknowledged that.
best game so far...idk man.. its hard.. i really liked diablo3 for ps4 but i need to see a list of everything that came out so far. im stoked for no man sky, black ops 3, Little Big Planet 3, far cry 4 and gta 5 on ps4.
I got the Destiny bundle along with the white PS4, and let me tell you.. This game is great. If you're a fan of FPS games, or anything else that's similar to Destiny, you will have a great time. No, it's not the game that will define this generation. But it is well worth the money, in my opinion. I can also see this game getting better over time. As people have stated before, the game itself is filled with things, especially after the level cap. And after the DLC is released, it'll only get bigger. I can't wait to put more time into this game. Great review, Vince.
True game is awesome but I just don't feel like people are playing with me no one talks on mics in PvP are PvE playing solo gets boring they only time I have fun is when my nephew and lil homies on and that's only 3 hrs a day other then that feels like a job
I bought Destiny on launch day and I only got to level 11 and got bored on the first weekend. I am mostly a PvP player. Was looking forward to the 'next halo' for next gen. But being a pretty decent halo player (k/d ratio ~2.5), I was HORRIBLE at destiny and pretty much gave up. Then after the halo 5 beta ended, I dusted off Destiny and gave it a second try. I realized after researching, that I needed to get to level 20 to have 'fun'. So, I almost finished the 'campaign', and picked a better subclass, got some abilities unlocked on some decent armor, and weapons, and now.... I'm a lot better at PvP, which is where the fun is for me. But then when I get bored, I do a strike, or another story mission. And that is fun too. I'm often telling myself this game is a masterpiece. Then after playing for 4-6 hours, I go to the tower and turn in all the bounties and decrypt all the shit I got. Then level up my shit and dismantle stuff I don't need, organize my player and streamline and optimize my menus so I'm even more powerful the next day I play. So I like that. I think it's a great game. And I'm not even close to the reputation I need, or have enough marks to buy any of the really good guns. Nor have I done any patrols. I'm still learning the system. It's a much more in depth game than I ever realized, and I think people are also unaware at how much time it takes to get the good stuff. There's even a weekly limit on how many marks you can earn, so buying the really good guns and gear can take you months. It's an interesting reward system. It makes you value your stuff more. It's a subconscious marketing thing. I give the game a 8.8/10.
my advice to anyone playing this game: do not even bother with the multiplay until you are level 20 with a nearly maxed out subclass. you will get destroyed. you can't reload fast enough, you're not agile, you aren't stable, you can't melee, your special is terrible, your grenades are shit, and you have a standard issue weapon without any help. the multiplayer is definitely not halo, and after you hit level 20, you will realize that's a very good thing in some ways. although, i LOVED the halo 5 beta. but necessity for a good PvP experience has made me fall in love with destiny. i couldn't stand titanfall. it would have been a great game without the stupid fucking bots!!!
This review is perfect. It dosnt tear Destiny apart and it tella us exactly whats wrong with it. Its a fine game, I really enjoy it. But it isnt a masterpiece. Just a lot of fun
No its not the flaws i thought the game was great its people expected and epic story like halo but instead we a got a boring mmo that focuses on grinding
Their is a different criteria . You base a review on good or bad based on what it has . Cod is simple and yet fun . Destiny is overly ambitious and falls short of a good game . Don't be mad
No, you cannot be wrong. Cod is not replayable or even remotely close to innovative. The whole multiplayer revolves around who holds the trigger the longest.. Its shit. Honestly, this rating blows, keep in mind its coming from the people who gave halo 4 a 9.8...
... You are just.. Wow. People still play it because there really is nothing else to play. cod sucks. Its programming, community, multiplayer, single player is all just copied and pasted..
Good review IGN! I dont think Bungie should've used 80% of the 500 mio. dollars on marketing, instead they should have used it more on the game itself.
"simultaneously making it many different things, and none of them at all." "Ah yes. But if we don't observe it, is it really there?" This game has all the right ingredients, it just has a bad Chef.
very good review, tackled all the meaningful mechanics of the game and assessed both the positives and negatives to all of them; with a fair score thrown in too. it goes to show that when IGN take their time instead of rushing out their videos they can up the quality and then some. the length, presentation and just in general the review itself, was far better than IGN's usual content
No the real problem is everyone thinking that the game is going to be pure gold visits not to be pure gold is going to be a fun game share with your friends
Dogpool Agreed. The reason why I think Destiny got such a backlash was because it was to over-hyped for its own good. People expected to much, they overdid the advertising for it last year too. I too bought this game over the over-hype influence. However I will say I'm enjoying the game still, but acknowledge that it isn't a masterpiece game that I and several others like I thought must've thought it would've become. 7.8 to 8 out of 10 seem to be the most accurate ratings, and I hope the expansion packs will help fill the story up a little bit later on. I hope to see Halo Reach style dog fights in the future, where your ships can be used for combat missions like in the sixth mission of that game.
Completely agree with you. It was an honest fair review from IGN which doesn't happen very often but his overall score didn't really add up to what he was saying
for me as someone who doesn't play every single fpshooter that comes out (more a jrpg fan) destiny is a breath of fresh air. i was waiting for bloodborne but couldn't miss out on bungie's new game, we go way back, and this game controls are so good i feel i could do no better with mouse/keybored. its atmosphere and level design is classic bungie and i LOVE dinklage bot, along with level grinding, upgrading my guns/armour and the ability to plug my gaming headset straight into the duelshock 4! bungie's destiny gets an easy 8.5 from me as i play every mission on hard! its so fun running and jumping around the final combat arena like my life depended on it, picking off foe with my sick blue hand cannon!
Somewhat agree. I thought Infinite was well worth the price tag. I certainly have high hopes for Civilization: Beyond Earth, as well. If it is as good as its predecessors it will be well worth even $100.
I would give it 8,5 :/ HERES WHY: Positives: Awesome Combat Great variety of weapons The inclusion of Awokens (they look awesome) Every class feels different (yes i know they do the same and bla bla bla, but take the titan for example, he feels like... Well a TITAN strong, tough and stuff) Negatives: Limited maps in multiplayer TOO MANY WEAPONS The RPG element is lacking No private lobby No way to chat with fellow guardians Every enemy looks and fell THE SAME Like if you agree :) (There may be more negatives but a lot of the negatives are small and can be fixed)
Being honest I think the only reason people say Destiny was a bad game, was because of all the hype and the fact they expected sooo much more from it. By no means is it a bad game, it's actually a very good one, it's just not as good as people and bungie anticipated.
You know what, bravo IGN. I expected after a week of waiting for a half-assed "review" that was just filler for some ridiculous 9-10 score, but instead I actually got a well thought-out and honest review. I actually enjoy Destiny quite a lot, but even I gave it about a 7-7.5 due to it not living up what it was promised to be. The editing of the review was also masterfully done. If you guys could keep this up and be as honest as this with all of your reviews instead of giving shit tier games that ruin franchises such as CoD Ghosts really high scores, then I'm sure many people would be happy and take you seriously again.
Destiny is going to be a franchise. We all know it. So, the fact that this game is being criticized is, objectively, a good thing. It get's all the elements it needs to get right right, but it doesn't gel them together as well as, as an example, Uncharted. That's what this feels like. Uncharted, but trying to do too much. Uncharted was only combing Tomb Raiders gameplay (Platforming and Puzzles) with Gears of War style gameplay (cover based shooting). And anyone who's played the Uncharted games knows they got better as they went on, purely because they kept improving the formula they set up in the first game. Destiny, I think, wants to do something along those lines, create a formula made up of several successful game elements (Halo's FPS mechanics, RPG upgrading, MMO interactivity) to appeal to a massive audience. It just doesn't have the layout as well put together as Uncharted. But it's on the right track. It's got the basics done correctly, it just needs to improve a few things. So, can all the haters stop screaming about how overrated this game is, and simple understand that it's putting everything together so they can keep improving on it in the future? Please?
Drew Shaffer You probably haven't played Zelda. And why the need for a question mark in your first sentence. #notagrammarnazi, you'rejustreallyfuckingdumb.
They should have left the gravity on the moon realistic. It would have made sense too because story-wise the Humans never finished colonizing it before they were run off by the Hive.
Things I hate about destiny. 1. I wish there was a chat board like in playstation home. So it would be easier to see if anyone wants to do a mission together. 2. Ffs can they please put that "finding players" thing for the raids. Seriously I don't even have 1 friend to play this game with lol. It's very annoying that I'm missing out. Can't they not just find a lobby and have 6 random people in it. It's simple. I'm really enjoying the game. It's just that the whole solo for raids thing is what's killing the fun for me. I'm sure I'm not alone with this.
I'd agree for things like Nightfall Strikes if they made it so the required level was at 26+, but for the Raid, it really does require communication. Perhaps if they added in a vote kick option, a mic requirement, and a strict requirement of level 26+, then I'd be fine with it. People who have beaten the raid have called it one of the most difficult gaming experiences they've ever done and it required constant teamwork and communication. Similar to raids in WoW, these won't be done by the majority of gamers.
I've never understood the "there's no way to communicate with anyone that's in your party" statement. Did this guy suddenly forget PSN and XBL are a thing? All players near you appear on your world roster. Simply scroll over their name, click view profile, and then message/ invite to a party. These consoles are social hubs at their core. Use it.
Cheers on the honest review. A bit higher score than I think deserved, but lower than expected. Repetitive, lack of content, poor social effort, unbalanced multiplayer(1.67 KD so I'm not bad), AND awful, almost nonexistent campaign. Personally would've gave it a 4 or 5, but a 7.8 is reasonable.
Yes, the PvP is so unbalanced. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. I really think the super attacks should be removed, or a separate mode without supers. There are just too many people who are overly-reliant on them.
I wasnt at all excited for destiny, but when I sat down and played it I was pleasantly surprised. The seamless multiplayer is great, it it is oh-so thrilling when a random public event happens and everyone gathers around ready for a fight.
"everyone gathers around ready for a fight" - that's strange, because I barely see anyone online on the map i'm playing and almost no one participates in the random event.
This game looks beautiful, it plays very nicely as well. The aiming and recoil feel just right. Story is very engaging (I am at level 15 so far) and I love the massive bosses you can take down with live friends (Xbox) or just join up with some random people. For next gen games this is one of the best I have played so far.
Matthew Ware Destiny was advertised as an RPG, and a lot more exploration. bungie threw the game out there with more time on the advertising them the actual game, you literally guarded your dumbass robot every mission. The game was horrible, period.
most the map layout per planet seem very liner as well. they are basically separate circular arenas connected to straight paths that you would naturally use your sparrow to get through. very beautiful, but not engaging.
So Call of duty: 5 hour campaign and same multiplayer for the last 7 years- 9/10 Destiny- Longer campaign, better mechanics, ton of modes, very over hyped 7.8/10
Call of Duty does what it sets out to do. It doesn't sell itself as an fps mmorpg and then fail in a few aspects. It's an arcade style fps that delivers where it matters most, the multiplayer. I don't buy call of duty for the campaign modes. I buy it so I can whoop ass in the multiplayer and then talk shit between games and because its fun to play with my brother.
Wait- There's a campaign in Destiny? Aside from the sub-par cut scenes in between boring and repetitive hallway shooting in the beautiful but same-y environments that really only change colours to signify that they're different, and a conclusion that doesn't actually have an ending, Bungie just made it overly ambiguous so that they want every player to get all of their Expansion Packs so that it gives more story to the "campaign", enabling ActiVision to suck even more money from all of their consumers, like Call of Duty. I'm shocked to have the revelation that it's actually the exact same as the CoD campaign. For each mission: Story about what's happening or whatever - Companion talking or shouting at you about what to do - Whoa! A gun in my hands means that I need to shoot things that pop out at me! - Companion talks about something - Shoot more stuff: Already boring - Companion talks then does something then talks more - Shoot stuff again: Yay..? - Companion talks about something when the mission ends - Useless story cutscene - Repeat. At least for Destiny, there's more of a strategy to what gear you use depending on the situation, but even that can't even hold a candle to games like The Last of Us (Better gameplay, story so much better than this that it's in a whole other dimension) or Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (An ACTUAL RPG that does the RPG elements well, as advertised and as what it's supposed to do). This is one of the most disappointing games that I have ever played. I fail to see where the $500 Million went into this game.
Well duh, its an FPS with RPG & MMO elements. Its like the most repetitve game modes you can get. FPS with shot shot shot, and RPG/MMO elements with lvling and griding for gear. And I still like it because of it. As I have said before ppl didnt seem to understand what they were getting themselves in to. But with that said they could have handled it better with the story telling (to remove your mind from the repetition) as it seems to be such a rich world but its like you barely scratch the surface of the world with the hollow storytelling.
***** Never said that, but these kinds of games WILL be grindy or have some grind in them. I gave one reason for it to be less repetitive. But saying a FPS RPG MMO game to be repetitive is like saying an air plane goes fast But I guess reading comprehension is too hard for some. And "this generation", what are you 20?
***** No its not the same as with the GTA5 and your analogy.... This game has end game as an MMO or RPG where you grind for gear and lvl them up = there is the grind that these kinds of games have which probably a lot of ppl didnt understand would have. I mean if you heard a game will have dungeons and raids what do you think the game would be like? People just bought it without knowing what kind of a game it is. And as I said from my first comment and if you would have thought a little you would have understood I ment they could have done shit differently for an example change the story to not just grind waves. Instead your first comment, you put words in my mouth so Im not even sure why I answer your stupid comments in the first place.
I'm currently lv27 and I'd give this game a 7/10 it's not even close to as good as I was expecting, I expected the game world too be huge and it's quite the opposite, I also expected much more loot/gear, most of the gears you buy from the 3 factions/crucible/vanguard are all very, very similar just different colors (which you can change anyway) Overall I actually really enjoy the game, its just not even close to what I was expecting.
3:50 Bungie specifically wanted to avoid the MMORPG thing where every class is needed in order to beat a dungeon or a raid. They wanted the classes to have differences but also did not want a specific class combination to be needed to clear a strike or a raid. They want you to be able to clear strikes and raids with any kind of class combination. Want a fireteam with all hunters? Do it. Want a fireteam with two titans and a Warlock? Do it They are trying to stay away from the Tank, Healer, Dps scheme for dungeons and raids from other MMORPGs and wanting to give you more freedom. They wanted the classes to have some differences and yet be able to hold their own regardless of what other classes are supporting them. I think its a step in the right direction. Remember in MMORPGs where entire raids and dungeons can shut down because they cannot progress further when their healers or tanks quit? Bungie wanted to avoid situations like this. I seen so many raids in World of Warcraft LFR disband when 1 or 2 tanks leave cause it normally takes 30 minutes to an hour to find a replacement and no one wants to dedicate that much time to just standing around twiddling their thumbs. You make the classes too different from one another, it gets to the point that every class is needed in order to succeed. Bungie made the right call on this one.
Okay I see why this got a 7.8 but ign.. Why would you give other games like ghost a higher score than this? At least destiny brought something new to the table.
Love the editing and presentation of this review as well as the content. I appreciate that IGN often have to rush out a review to make sure it releases along with the game, but the fact that they spent much more time on this one definitely shows.
Yeah, things like mini games or hell, just characters ,would have improved this a lot. There's nothing like doing what seems like an important mission , only to end up without a cut scene , conversation or anything making it feel important ..."here's a gun"
-"Guys I've got an idea, let's sell destiny on launch day with 50% locked on disc content for the full games price and a year later sell whole game + all dlcs again for the the price of an original game just with all content on disc unlocked" -"Holy shit dude, you're a genius"
I never thought I would say this but Ign actually gave a good review! They spent enough time to understand the game (even after lvl 20 which u doubt game spot did) it was a perfectly balanced overview with a decent score (I would give it a 7.5 but Ohh well) they didn't allow the hype if the game to affect their verdict
Titanfall was fun, just underdeveloped. Watchdogs was only disappointing if you buy easily into over-hype. If you WEREN'T expecting a game to single handedly change the world it was REALLY damn good. As for Destiny? Meh. Haven't played it, and probably won't until there start being second hand copies available for around $20... but if your track record of the other two assessments is any indicator? You're just not very good at this.
Dustin Hertel i like destiny and titanfall people get too much antihype and over hype no they aren't game of the year material but they are solid shooters and fun i think people have way too hi of expectations
100M dollar profit on the ENTIRE 10 year franchise, on pre-orders. Hardly a failure. Maybe for SOME consumers, but not for Activision/Bungie. Anyway, around my school, popular opinion is that Destiny is pretty good. Not as great as everyone was expecting, but it's main element is that it is an FPS. People complain that it's repetitive. What did they expect? It's primarily a first person shooter. People also complain that the game is releasing DLC pretty soon after release. The community compared it to an MMO. MMOs release lots of DLC, for like $40 per expansion. Destiny does it for $20.
Niall Carson i like destiny the silly thing is every ones is on this tangent on company greed and companies are out to screw us abd boycotting which has to be the stupidest thing i have ever heard 1 little thing in a game people don't like then they boycott it ignorance is bliss
Best review I've seen so far. Good job Vince! hope to see more reviews from you in the future. I also respect you waiting to put out a quality review. Some sites posted scores like 3-4 days after release which they couldn't have possibly had enough time to spend in Story, Crucible and gear grinding to actually have a thorough opinion on the game. Let alone spend time with each class. Overall though you hit the nail on the head. Fun game and gear will keep me playing for at least a few months.
I played the free trial and the experience was awesome and memorable. I haven’t finished it yet but i look forward to finishing it soon. Thank bungie for making such a memorable experience.
***** I hope it does. I really enjoy this game but most console players are not used to the grind of mmo games, which may turn some of them off, but i play on pc also, so im used to it.
Why aren't all the reviews like this? 8 minutes to give an unbiased opinion, while usually we're looking at 3/5 minutes of COD biased reviews, and others that are rushed a lot. This review, sir, was good, really good. And the score is the right one; a stunning looking game, so good and fun to play, but lacking of smart level designs and storytelling. That been said, the other AAA games will now need to look at least as good as Destiny. We're on the next-gen, and Destiny is the first game that cried it out loud.
Nobody told you to buy a console so early in its life. I got mine in December and I got no regrets. Played GTA V, Last of Us, Unity, Infamous first light, am now playing Far Cry 4, will get Destiny and Infamous Second Son later this month, The Order is also out this month, Tomb Raider Definitive edition is also on my desk... I aint got shit to complain about!
This is the most well thought out review IGN has ever made. It also has really high production quality. I think the score was on point, but I personally think Destiny will get better and better when dlc gets released. New gear, ships, crucible maps, and locations (hopefully whole new planets) will add to the overall satisfaction of the experience. What we got at launch is just the begginning, and I am excited for the future!
New planets will definitely be added. They're already visible through the Destiny app in the Grimoire. Looking forward to exploring the rest of the solar system!
Completely agree. While the game is lacking as it is now, it's only going to improve as time goes on. Already the raid and many of the fixes made during the patches have improved the game quite a bit. It may be a while until the game gets enough content to satisfy many people BUT I do think that day will come.
crazy13320 i appreciate your optimism but I'm afraid what we've been given is what we're stuck with. I was expecting a huge open world game proportionate to Azeroth or a more massive scale. What we got is a generic linear FPS.
the seventh generation of gaming consoles set the bar way too damn high for the current gen. i think we expect too much for these new games and they end up disappointing us. hopefully developers will learn from this year's releases and bounce back to give us great games or even better like the last of us, bioshock infinite, gta 5 and so on.
The consensus is in. Destiny is a good game, but it fails to exceed in any one specific area because it tries to do too many things. Regardless, it still is a fun game.
In my opinion, I would rate this game between a high 6 or a low 7. The story is bad, the missions get repetitive and the multiplayer is alright (nothing amazing about it but also nothing horrible about it). The gameplay is fun and the soundtrack is pretty good. I feel like the hype was so high that it made my expectations high. Over all I would say this game is good but its not great.
Yeah this game is fun and could be played over 100 hours. 7.8 is a bit disrespectful. Judging by the tone of his review, he wanted to give it an 8 but didnt want it to be too different from what other outlets are rating it. Besides, how in the HELL do you get .(point)8th of a point?
Personally speaking I love this game, as do most of my friends. Rather than just praising or bitching about destiny I am going to provide some improvements to help destiny 2. Story Improvements. My first major problem is obviously the lack of narrative. For a game as hyped as this, and in development for this long, they really needed to create a stronger narrative. We didnt learn anything the entire time. We also didn't have much of a back story to tell us why we care about this conflict, other than because we are supposed to. We don't learn much about the different factions or their hierarchy (hive, Vex, Fallen, Awoken). We didn't learn a single thing about the enemy (the darkness). We really didn't even learn who the guardians were, why they were so important, and how they relate to the traveler. Oh... the traveler... that big orb on the cover and essentially the biggest marketing piece that we've seen for the game... we didn't learn about him. Loot system improvements. I think its mostly fine, except for the fact that it needs to be based on achievable goals and not randomized farming. Perhaps the drops can be buffed slightly, but remember, if the loot system is buffed so that you are getting an exotic every day it takes away from the long term playability. Exotics and legends should be rewards for doing something amazing (like finishing the raids or completely an amazing feat in multi-player). At the end of a raid or a hard strike you get a randomized exotic or legendary. It should also be for your class. People hate grinding for hours to get a chest piece or class item for a character class they don't play. Destiny doesn't reward you in that way. Its totally randomized. In fact i have seen many times the worst performing party member in a strike or crucible match get an exotic or legendary while the top performers get nothing. Class items. What is the point of these? Besides looking cool. Why don't these add armor or abilities? This seems like someone decided at the last minute to throw more shit in that people had to farm or find, but never decided why they matter. Class items are the worst, because some of them look cool (hunter cloak) and others are completely lame (warlock band). Not to mention there are already two other items that you collect in the game that are mostly for show... sparrows and spaceships. Do we really need a third item that you collect that is just for show? How about adding abilities? For example... a hunter cloak that when worn gives you an extra shot on golden gun.... or a titan badge that makes their force field harm anything that enters it, a warlock band that causes a bigger explosion or AOE... ect. The possibilities are endless. Sparrows and spaceships. With a game with a 500 million dollar budget why in the hell wasn't there a spaceship level that was as awesome as the one in Halo Reach? Remember (In Destiny's campaign) when you go to The Reach, the place where the Akoen Queen lives... twice... and nothing happens except for cut scenes. That would be a perfect time to have some spaceship battles against the Vex/Fallen. Think about the possibilities for unique ships that you should get. Every ship as primary and secondary abilities (bullets and missiles), and ships would have the ability to add specials based off upgrades (class items like I mentioned before). Upgrades to ships could make them faster, better at handling, add different weapons, or cloaking. You could make strikes that are done in your ship (like starfox). Bosses that are in outter-space. Last but not least... More Planets. We need more areas to explore and more varying types of terrain. Hot planets, cold planets, volcanoes, water areas, ect... Make it fun to explore. If you agree, let me know... if not... no big deal. To each their own game. These are what i think can improve this game and really help it stand out.
You know, this is exactly how I feel about destiny, everything is their, it just needs a few tweaks and then maybe it will score 8.5's to 10's. Thank you for not giving your negitve feedback allong with ways to improve them, rather than just saying how shit this game is. In my opinion, the end game is really fun, where you try and get max level by playing crucible or fighting hard strike missions with your friends. What i'm really saying is keep on writing good useful constructive criticism
Thanks dude... I mean these are just my thoughts, and im sure my idea of a great game is different than most, but I feel like it would have really helped the final product. now there seems to be a big uproar about locked on disc content for Destiny, which could change my entire viewpoint on the game. Im not about that on disc DLC. I think its a scummy.
Too bad IGN reviewers aren't the ones that are going to be making a Destiny 2 (if there even will be one, doubt it) so posting all that text is useless..
As a player of Destiny, I found this to be a perfect review in every way. Discussing its clear strengths, and even clearer weaknesses. I wish IGN would be this thoughtful, accurate & fair in every one of it's reviews (cough call of duty)
*sniff halo 4
Dean Minchella lol, thats also true too!
When Jez wasn't a RUclipsr, you can tell that he was just a regular player commenting on a popular videogame review!
Sonic unleashed
And here we are 8 years later. Destiny going strong! LIGHTFALL
I could tell you the story, but first buy my dlc
Steven Stauffenenbeurrgettezeinschiesseznerschnell not really imo. you dont need max level shit to compete/ you can own people with the default stuff if you're good enough
save money and buy the season pass so I can tell you the four parts of the story later
Destiny 7.8
Goat simulator 8.0/10
Welcome to IGN people.
Zak Forbes 7.8 too much destiny
Too much water 4.5
WHY IS GRAVITY THE SAME ON ALL THE PLANETS????????????
Custom made bewts
Because the traveler made the planets suitable for life
+Anthony Gutierrez That's actually right
its becauce your made of light
clearly you have no idea what the traveler is literally making everything sustainable for life. why instead of asking about gravity why not ask how can they breathe? because of the traveler
AllBoosted
Keep in mind 7.8 is the right score for this game. Its gameplay and mechanics make for great battles especially in co-op & multiplayer. Dont expect mcuh in way of story and you'll enjoy your experience.
Hey bungie, I just wanted to thank your for curing my chronic insomnia
:D
Sp0rk What
Spork rly good man hope u feel better now and feel free :)
Calen Nelson you too m8
Thx
Did I hear 12 hour campaign? THATS BULLSHIT AND WE ALL KNOW IT. I finished in 3 HOURS now 5 if you count the taken wallet King.
Taken wallet lmao
+Adam Shutt Taken wallet king XD
Adam Shutt agreed but yeah i only like destiny multiplayer shame i dont have console
+Norhamiza abu hassan yeah
+Norhamiza abu hassan you play pc?
+Frank The Rabbit tfw you have to pay an extra $80 to even get half a story. also they took out huge parts of the game to be resold as DLC gg Bungie
But an absoulute shit story
***** to be fair, bungie did not start off as a shitty company.
Destiny failed to meet expectations.
IGN's review of Destiny did.
Get rekt, Bungie.
That's what they get for abandoning their baby.
Despite the decimal rating, I think IGN finally gave an in-depth review for once.
I agree. It's still funny though that Cod Ghosts got a higher score than this.
Wait a minute
Destiny. Advanced Warfare
7.8. 9.1
Result IGN need to stop taking drugs like NOW!
Lewis Netherton both 2/10 you're right
They also gave halo 4 a 9 which is stupid.
+Timothy Magee-Correa halo 4 is still way better than cod and destiny
ok this is getting out of hand
I agree
***** Well yes, it was bad. However, the story isn't over and it does not have to be over when the game is over since there are already two more games planned to continue it.
You sir, are absolutley spot on. Kudos to you.
JMS230 do you see yourself playing this until March 2015?
Atomic Rebellion Well, maybe not but only because I'm a PC gamer and I don't like using a controller for FPS games. If it was on PC, then yes I could see myself playing it in March 2015.
Finally! IGN finished their review and it's pretty accurate.
But I will hold Bungie accountable for the terrible story and lack of open-world (which I know wasn't really promised, but I did expect it from this game)
Damn shame really, hopefully they fix a lot of the shit quick. Can we petition for a change like we did for ME3?
If a game is really hyped, take a pass. Wait for the bad reviews to roll in (no matter how good it is, it won't live up to hype.). After they destroy your expectations, buy the game and enjoy it
1. Gameplay
2. World
3. Missions
4. Multiplayer
5. Story
6. Graphics/Audio
And you can't fault a game for not being what you wanted.
That's the opposite of everything you've said so far
They cant fix a story or the open worlds unless they waste money on making another game this early since launch
fun fact Halo Reach has more content , a better longer story mode, more armor pieces, better multiplayer, more weapons and vehicles then Destiny and is free on xbox gold now
imo Halo Reach is very similar to destiny in many ways but that could be just me?
And Halo 3 had a better PvP
Fun fact, the Xbox 360 has more Halo games than the Xbox One does, so need to upgrade just yet.
And forget about Destiny, people still play Reach and Halo 4! Halo Reach is free for gold members in Europe at least!
KikBlava wtf you on about you are just writing what i put and the xboxone has no halo games atm lol
SamuelMcCloud Aside from fun fact I didn't write down what you put down. Besides, you didn't copyright your comment. :P
Fun fact, the content part, is simply not true.
This game has gotten wayyyy better after launch
Not really
joe salcce I agree
joe salcce no
No, it hasn't.
*Admit it*
Destiny is fun especially with your friends but the story mode is the weak point in the game.
but it makes up with guns and boss And character selection
You got:
*The Hulk - Hulk Smash: Titan*
*Vegeta - Big Bang Attack: Warlock*
*Yusuke - Spirit Gun - Hunter*
Gamescore: 7.5
Gameplay and Fun: 10
Admit it you had fun!
Don't follow these people saying it over hype make you change your mind about the game most them are salty people that Bungie gone Multiplate
Yeah, literally any game is fun with friends. You can even play a game like frogger for an hour with friends, even though the games suck pretty bad.
AsboXFlemzo I want more Co-op games I prefer them over multiplayer any day
uhMayzedHD yeah I want more survival co op game modes like Horde and Fire Fight
uhMayzedHD Could not agree with this more. Well said.
I'm just gonna say it, who else got bored of the game already
I did, but as a halo 1 2 and 3 fan I still have tope, please bubgie I mean come con this game was more expensive tha avatar movie.
Me
I actually think, this is the first time IGN Gave an honest score
I knew someone was going to say this lol
Zach93SSSS ikrrrr haha, personally, after playing the raids amd everything id give it a solid 9
You played the game right?
yallknow yea played the raid today id say it bought the game up like 2 points for me we are at the last boss in the raid on normal AND DAMN this is the best raid i have played
In ign defense they did give the taken king a 9/10. I can understand a lot of the reasons they had for the low score. Destiny has changed dramatically since release and ign has acknowledged that.
Im fully with this review.. i agree
Me too people giving it 5 and 6 though its a good game and deserves 8
Me too people giving it 5 and 6 though its a good game and deserves 8
***** I don't know I'll just have to wait till more games come out
best game so far...idk man.. its hard.. i really liked diablo3 for ps4 but i need to see a list of everything that came out so far. im stoked for no man sky, black ops 3, Little Big Planet 3, far cry 4 and gta 5 on ps4.
***** speaking of have they been coming out with any no mans sky information because I haven't been seeing any
47 seconds of intro that says nothing and repeats saying nothing...
yeah that sums up a lot of ign reviews they kinda sound all intelligent and dramatic but don't really mean much
I got the Destiny bundle along with the white PS4, and let me tell you..
I give the game a 8.8/10.
my advice to anyone playing this game: do not even bother with the multiplay until you are level 20 with a nearly maxed out subclass. you will get destroyed. you can't reload fast enough, you're not agile, you aren't stable, you can't melee, your special is terrible, your grenades are shit, and you have a standard issue weapon without any help. the multiplayer is definitely not halo, and after you hit level 20, you will realize that's a very good thing in some ways. although, i LOVED the halo 5 beta. but necessity for a good PvP experience has made me fall in love with destiny. i couldn't stand titanfall. it would have been a great game without the stupid fucking bots!!!
sillydillydokieo well, now that pulse rifles are OP, I see lvl 9 killing 32 with 2 burts
Antorico2 Gaming what does OP mean?
sillydillydokieo overpowered
sillydillydokieo why did you need to say your k/d? look at all the fucks i don't give.
Why doesn't this guy do all of IGNs reviews this was legit.
This review is perfect. It dosnt tear Destiny apart and it tella us exactly whats wrong with it. Its a fine game, I really enjoy it. But it isnt a masterpiece. Just a lot of fun
Well this review is better than gamespot, thanks IGN
sigh named the most disappointing game of 2014 and most disappointing game of all time by many (not just Angry Joe)
Ign 7.8/10
jaden519 It's sad that it had some nice features but all the flaws just make the game horrible.
No its not the flaws i thought the game was great its people expected and epic story like halo but instead we a got a boring mmo that focuses on grinding
jaden519 Yeah that too.
if it was like halo it probably would've had a better time or at least halo with new troops
jaden519 Yeah if it was more si-fi than fantasy I think it would do better, the mix of si-fi and fantasy was horrible blended.
lol and people expected IGN to give Destiny a 9 or 10..... Still think IGN gets paid to give high scores?
Eat Squid They get paid for advertising a game? How dare they!
Eat Squid I think that applies more to smaller. Something like IGN has a list of people who want to put ads on their site.
The only reason this got 7.8 (less than 8/9) is because it's not COD.
Dean Minchella If CoD wasn't replayable then why are people still playing Black Ops 2 that came out awhile ago?
... You are just.. Wow. People still play it because there really is nothing else to play. cod sucks. Its programming, community, multiplayer, single player is all just copied and pasted..
Dean Minchella I wasn't talking about how good or bad CoD is. I was simply pointing out that people still play it.
Good review IGN!
I dont think Bungie should've used 80% of the 500 mio. dollars on marketing, instead they should have used it more on the game itself.
"simultaneously making it many different things, and none of them at all."
"Ah yes. But if we don't observe it, is it really there?"
This game has all the right ingredients, it just has a bad Chef.
The best and one of the most honest reviews I've heard in a long time from IGN....
very good review, tackled all the meaningful mechanics of the game and assessed both the positives and negatives to all of them; with a fair score thrown in too. it goes to show that when IGN take their time instead of rushing out their videos they can up the quality and then some. the length, presentation and just in general the review itself, was far better than IGN's usual content
Titanfall, Watchdogs, and Destiny all failed to live up to the hype.
:(
Doesn't that prove that the hype is the problem more than the actual games
Trust me, there are more to come. Gaming community is nothing but hype now days. So, Titanfall, Watchdogs and Destiny are just a beginning.
The bright side is that these games were well advertised. Good to know that good marketing in the game industry is coming back.
3.8
The sky is too blue
XD
2.4, not like Skyrim
@@AnsliKrow Jesus this game aged better than we thought
Good review but I personally would score it a bit lower. Probably a 7
Completely agree with you. It was an honest fair review from IGN which doesn't happen very often but his overall score didn't really add up to what he was saying
I was thinking the same thing dude.
for me as someone who doesn't play every single fpshooter that comes out (more a jrpg fan) destiny is a breath of fresh air. i was waiting for bloodborne but couldn't miss out on bungie's new game, we go way back, and this game controls are so good i feel i could do no better with mouse/keybored. its atmosphere and level design is classic bungie and i LOVE dinklage bot, along with level grinding, upgrading my guns/armour and the ability to plug my gaming headset straight into the duelshock 4! bungie's destiny gets an easy 8.5 from me as i play every mission on hard! its so fun running and jumping around the final combat arena like my life depended on it, picking off foe with my sick blue hand cannon!
I like the new motion graphics implemented throughout, Ign. Good job!
Seriously the only recent game release that I felt was worth $60 was The Last of Us.
Never played it but I agree
I'd pay $70 for The Last Of Us, An amazing game. Got it for $30 :D !!!
I'd pay $100 just for the campaign xD.
Somewhat agree. I thought Infinite was well worth the price tag.
I certainly have high hopes for Civilization: Beyond Earth, as well. If it is as good as its predecessors it will be well worth even $100.
The last AAA games worth buying:
Skyrim
Far Cry 3
The Witcher 2
The last of us
Thats pretty much it, in almost 4 fucking years.
I would give it 8,5 :/ HERES WHY:
Positives:
Awesome Combat
Great variety of weapons
The inclusion of Awokens (they look awesome)
Every class feels different (yes i know they do the same and bla bla bla, but take the titan for example, he feels like... Well a TITAN strong, tough and stuff)
Negatives:
Limited maps in multiplayer
TOO MANY WEAPONS
The RPG element is lacking
No private lobby
No way to chat with fellow guardians
Every enemy looks and fell THE SAME
Like if you agree :)
(There may be more negatives but a lot of the negatives are small and can be fixed)
No likes = No one agrees with you
How is too much weapons a negative???
Proud of you IGN, giving the game the score it deserves.
lol
lmao
Crucible players are all just....shotgun users...
FALLOUT 3 is much better and it's a game from 2008!!!
*****
Fallout 3 was the best game since 10 years when it came out
Damn right.
Destiny is in my TOP 10 for 2014 but Fallout 3 is still the king, best game since the PS1 / N64 days.
You just reminded me how utterly sad I am that Fallout 4 hasn't been announced yet:( Bethesda role playing games are my favorite video games period.
***** Indeed
Please, what is the music used during "The Verdict" section? Starts at 7:07.
Please?

Assassin's Creed 3 wasn't as good as everyone thought it would be, but everyone still bought Black Flag.
Everyone that didn't like AC3 are just idiots lol. Black flag was just a pirate game. I don't get the hate for AC3
one of the few ign reviews that totally nail it.
ha .. hahaha.. HHAAHAHAHA
Just like the halo reviews
Halo 4: 9.8. Titanfall: 8.9 and Destiny... A freakin' 7.8. Common IGN.
they were better than destiny? deal with it and go play shitty zelda
Drew Shaffer Are you fucking kidding? Zelda is one of the top 10 video game franchises ever created.
It should be the other way around.

Destiny logic
go on the moon, same gravity as a planet
Faizan logic: there's no innovation in the future
Mohd Hammad Rekt

if you've actually played the game its explained why
Yeah, the whole not having matchmaking thing for raids is pretty stupid. Are you on xbox or playstation? And which version of either?
***** I completed the raid and I understand why. There is zero point to adding a matchmaking system for that type of content.
Yeah I feel ya I got people to play with they are just to low of a level
I'll help! Which console?
You know you fucked up when 12 yr olds are saying it sucks.
But Jesus Christ! Please allow that fucking gorgeous soundtrack to bring it to an 8.0!!!
pretty sure most of that score came from soundtrack already

Bungie has gone downhill. What a shame, I used to love them. 343 > bungie
Are you stupid or what? 343i ruined halo.
***** What was so bad about Halo 4 other than the MP? The story was great and gameplay was the same for the most part.
Did you even play Halo 4?
***** Halo 4 was excellent, at least if compared with past Halo games.
THExKiNG509 Halo 4 is absolute garbage.
THExKiNG509 only the story was great. MP as garbage, spartan ops? A joke. The gameplay mechanics? Feel sloppy.
Use it.
DialgaMarine3 Agreed. In game chat is entirely worthless when you have party chat.
@@Robert-goose1 you sir are very wrong
Cheers on the honest review. A bit higher score than I think deserved, but lower than expected. Repetitive, lack of content, poor social effort, unbalanced multiplayer(1.67 KD so I'm not bad), AND awful, almost nonexistent campaign. Personally would've gave it a 4 or 5, but a 7.8 is reasonable.
4 or 5? At least a 6 is fair...
Still fun as hell to play though
Yes, the PvP is so unbalanced. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. I really think the super attacks should be removed, or a separate mode without supers. There are just too many people who are overly-reliant on them.
TheGameSaviour Not for me. Rarely enjoyed myself.
Leonard Fenton You get them so easily. I use my super 5+ times a match on a bad day.
I wasnt at all excited for destiny, but when I sat down and played it I was pleasantly surprised. The seamless multiplayer is great, it it is oh-so thrilling when a random public event happens and everyone gathers around ready for a fight.
Agreed.
Its a better game than what it's given credit for. gaming journalism=death of gaming industry
Jcannnon Amen to that!
For reals
You are kidding right? Destiny planets were garbage you just walked through them to where they wanted you to walk.
Isn't that what u do in almost every game?
Matthew Ware Destiny was advertised as an RPG, and a lot more exploration. bungie threw the game out there with more time on the advertising them the actual game, you literally guarded your dumbass robot every mission. The game was horrible, period.
most the map layout per planet seem very liner as well. they are basically separate circular arenas connected to straight paths that you would naturally use your sparrow to get through.
very beautiful, but not engaging.
+Conner Burnett makes life easier.
I personally think open world games are more suited for GTA and such games.
So Call of duty: 5 hour campaign and same multiplayer for the last 7 years- 9/10
Destiny- Longer campaign, better mechanics, ton of modes, very over hyped 7.8/10
Call of duty campaign is much more better then destiny
and the multiplayer is much more fun and less repeated
Call of Duty does what it sets out to do. It doesn't sell itself as an fps mmorpg and then fail in a few aspects. It's an arcade style fps that delivers where it matters most, the multiplayer. I don't buy call of duty for the campaign modes. I buy it so I can whoop ass in the multiplayer and then talk shit between games and because its fun to play with my brother.
hellterskelter89 what hellters said ^^
Dany Tm ughh titanfall's campaign is soo shit and short 0 efoort was put in it....ZERO
Also it's VEEERRRYYY REPETITIVE!
Totikki TL;DR
blah blah blah, all FPS are repetitive and shit.
BULLLLLLSHIITTT, its just another excuse to be fucking lazy as an developer.
*****
Never said that, but these kinds of games WILL be grindy or have some grind in them. I gave one reason for it to be less repetitive.
But saying a FPS RPG MMO game to be repetitive is like saying an air plane goes fast
But I guess reading comprehension is too hard for some. And "this generation", what are you 20?
***** Seems you missed the point of my answer to your comment.
But as I said, reading comprehension is difficult.
*****
No its not the same as with the GTA5 and your analogy....
I'm currently lv27 and I'd give this game a 7/10 it's not even close to as good as I was expecting, I expected the game world too be huge and it's quite the opposite, I also expected much more loot/gear, most of the gears you buy from the 3 factions/crucible/vanguard are all very, very similar just different colors (which you can change anyway)
Overall I actually really enjoy the game, its just not even close to what I was expecting.
3:50
Bungie specifically wanted to avoid the MMORPG thing where every class is needed in order to beat a dungeon or a raid. They wanted the classes to have differences but also did not want a specific class combination to be needed to clear a strike or a raid.
They want you to be able to clear strikes and raids with any kind of class combination. Want a fireteam with all hunters? Do it. Want a fireteam with two titans and a Warlock? Do it
They are trying to stay away from the Tank, Healer, Dps scheme for dungeons and raids from other MMORPGs and wanting to give you more freedom.
Maybe they're actually going to start doing good reviews now hopefully the rest to come are just as fair as this one
Tony Martienz No, this review was honest because Bungie didn't pay ANYONE to do a good review.
Like what?
***** Yes new.. What's new about ghosts huh?
Destiny has many features where other games dont
Destiny is pretty bad, but ghosts is way worse
I give this game a 5/10 because it's boring
Love the editing and presentation of this review as well as the content. I appreciate that IGN often have to rush out a review to make sure it releases along with the game, but the fact that they spent much more time on this one definitely shows.
"making it, simultaniously, many things and none of them at all"
sooooooooooooooo cringy when ign tries to be cinematic and epic.
lmaaoo
For the first I'm really liking IGNs review!
Destiny needed 25 different Towers, mini games, 50 planets etc. It hasn't changed much after everyone played the Beta for so long.
Yeah, things like mini games or hell, just characters ,would have improved this a lot. There's nothing like doing what seems like an important mission , only to end up without a cut scene , conversation or anything making it feel important ..."here's a gun"
One of the best IGN reviews in a long time. Very detailed.
It sounded to much like poetry to me
-"Guys I've got an idea, let's sell destiny on launch day with 50% locked on disc content for the full games price and a year later sell whole game + all dlcs again for the the price of an original game just with all content on disc unlocked"
-"Holy shit dude, you're a genius"
I never thought I would say this but Ign actually gave a good review! They spent enough time to understand the game (even after lvl 20 which u doubt game spot did) it was a perfectly balanced overview with a decent score (I would give it a 7.5 but Ohh well) they didn't allow the hype if the game to affect their verdict
I wouldnt doubt kevin van ords reviewing skills.
List of failures fanboys hype
Titanfall
Watchdogs
Destiny
And now we wait for the division
Titanfall is fun. There is no denying it. However, while the quality is amazing it is lack luster in terms of content. It should've been sold for $25.
I will be playing this on the master console (xbox one/master race)
Cynikal Enterprise shut up you peasant
maxis799 I'm not. I am part of the PC Master Race
Join the Xbox one master race.........
30FPS/720P Master Race, right guys?
***** 30 fps/1080p on destiny so stfu
watching this and im still playing the game till this day. its crazy how much this game has changed for the better
unfrosted poptarts I dont know how bad this game was before, but i recently got it with the expansions and its very addicting

Thank you, good sir! Been waiting for this for almost 10 years!
@@wolfslade185 cheers!
7.8. why not just say 8. There is really no need for a decimal score on a 10 rating system.
That's exactly what I was thinking.. So where did it lose those 0.2 points? Lol dumb
the point system is a sub score. so out of "7" games, they believe it is an "8"
Game doesn't deserve an 8 that's why.
0.2 points isn't a massive difference....
You could always round it off to an 8 in your head, that's what I do.
Hands down, best review ign has ever done...
The Max Payne 3 review was pretty slick.
I played the free trial and the experience was awesome and memorable. I haven’t finished it yet but i look forward to finishing it soon. Thank bungie for making such a memorable experience.
Here's hoping that if Bungie ever makes Destiny 2 they're able to focus down the direction of the game a bit better.
I agree remember what the first assassin creed was like repetitive missions and bad gameplay and then ac2 came out
I am actually surprised that it didn't live up to its hype. Bungie usually makes amazing games.
Get Shrekt everyone just expected too much from Destiny
***** I hope it does. I really enjoy this game but most console players are not used to the grind of mmo games, which may turn some of them off, but i play on pc also, so im used to it.
I think right now there trying to fix there mistakes on this Destiny. But over all Destiny is a great game.
Use this guy to review every single game! haha
Just because he didn't hate on your new favourite game?
Lemur Dawid i dont own this game i have played it. I do not plan on buying it i though he hit the details spot on to my experience with the game.
Turtleman1234321 Oh, ok.
Destiny was overrated. im tired of being let down by the PS4
im going to buy a Wii U tomorrow, Bayonetta 2 looks like its a masterpiece
Ha dumbass
Ra'Meil Morgan And I simply mean that if you are being let down by the "Ps4" then you have not bought the right games or you have boring ass friends.

This guy knows what's up.
Most overhyped game ever.
It was honestly
Not even close to titanfall
cos it got a few bad reviews.......yeh.......so overhyped........makes duke nukem forever look like resi 4 right?
Nope, Watchdogs is literally the worst overhyped piece of shit I've ever seen.
QLCHerald 100% correct
Fair review. I would rate it like an 8.3
6.8
you fucking idiot delet your account bitch
ThatNiggaSpiderman calm down mate
ThatNiggaSpiderman lol
This is the most well thought out review IGN has ever made. It also has really high production quality. I think the score was on point, but I personally think Destiny will get better and better when dlc gets released. New gear, ships, crucible maps, and locations (hopefully whole new planets) will add to the overall satisfaction of the experience. What we got at launch is just the begginning, and I am excited for the future!
New planets will definitely be added. They're already visible through the Destiny app in the Grimoire. Looking forward to exploring the rest of the solar system!
That's why they took so long for the review to go up, even though there is new dlc coming in the future, the core of the game will stay the same
Completely agree. While the game is lacking as it is now, it's only going to improve as time goes on. Already the raid and many of the fixes made during the patches have improved the game quite a bit. It may be a while until the game gets enough content to satisfy many people BUT I do think that day will come.
Saying a game will be better once DLC is added makes me weep for the current generation of gamers.
crazy13320 i appreciate your optimism but I'm afraid what we've been given is what we're stuck with. I was expecting a huge open world game proportionate to Azeroth or a more massive scale. What we got is a generic linear FPS.
I got Warframe for free
I know, I mean that warframe is free and is a way better game.
Hah, Nope
@@ZinedinePrime lol warframe and borderlands slaughter this game by a mile.
the seventh generation of gaming consoles set the bar way too damn high for the current gen. i think we expect too much for these new games and they end up disappointing us. hopefully developers will learn from this year's releases and bounce back to give us great games or even better like the last of us, bioshock infinite, gta 5 and so on.
They are giving us great games like the Last of Us and GTA5 on PS4. They're called the Last of Us and GTA5 on PS4.

King Crawford Don't forget COD if anything i say that game is better than Last of us.
The consensus is in. Destiny is a good game, but it fails to exceed in any one specific area because it tries to do too many things. Regardless, it still is a fun game.
Ign trying to become cool again with this new format. Lol, but this is one of IGNs best reviews.
Best IGN review I've ever seen. Very well done. If every review was like this, then your reviews would be nearly perfect.
7.8 is being really generous to be honest. I was expecting ign to crucify this game. Ah well, glad I didn't felt sucked into the hype.
Titanfall got an 8.9 sooo.......yeah. A 7.8 for this game is disrespectful in that sense
Wow, you really expect much from IGN. I thought they were giving this shit at least a 9, but I was actually surprised that they gave it a 7.8
Yeah this game is fun and could be played over 100 hours. 7.8 is a bit disrespectful. Judging by the tone of his review, he wanted to give it an 8 but didnt want it to be too different from what other outlets are rating it. Besides, how in the HELL do you get .(point)8th of a point?
Jay Kay I happened to really like titanfall though,
spartanV48 I happen to really like destiny and the content and fun factor are on another level compared to titanfall. By the way I like titanfall too
Personally speaking I love this game, as do most of my friends.
Ryan Archuleta
thanks buddy!
You're welcome pal!!!
Hey, i own a 360 and saw this on my gamestore for $50 in my country, so its like $20-$25 in the us. Should i get it?
