There’s a key difference between this and battlefront 2. B2 has a terrible story but it has a story. People say that Destiny’s story is stupid, but that’s not true. It’s actually admirable how well the game refuses to give you a story. Playing Destiny felt like cross examining a murderer. The energy and creativity that it put into avoiding my questions is phenomenal.

Gerald Justice doesn’t make the other characters well written in game though. Lore isn’t enough to make a character or world interesting unless it’s presented in a really engaging and well presented way (I.e. every from software game) and it really isn’t in destiny since you have to leave the game to learn the lore
Y'know, when I was younger, I actually enjoyed the mindless entertainment of Destiny. I know it has mountains of problems, but it holds a special place in my heart.

I think the issue with Destiny is that they tried to be TOO vague and mysterious about what the darkness is. I remember how lots of fans were trying to figure out exactly what the darkness was for a while with a bunch of theories being presented but in end nothing was final until Bungie decided to start over with a second game.

Dan 1031 Well the reason why they left Microsoft is because Microsoft drove them away, because they wanted to make other games other than halo but Microsoft wouldn’t let them. Microsoft just wanted them to only make halo and that’s what caused them to leave.
Brandon's EliteTV Yeah I mean maybe Microsoft were miss treating Bungie I don’t know? But in Microsoft ever scrap Joe staten’s story and caused him to quit? No. Did they ever fire Marty O’Donnell? No. So it seems to me and everyone else that Microsoft treated them way better than Activision.

@@Gojin91 lets take a look at halo CE level design for an example. In destiny every mission is open to you. You reach at certain place and the enemies are placed in certain points (after the horde trigger) which you need to defeat them. The place is structured with multiple paths and they support multiple different playstyles i can literaly snipe with a invisible ranger, explode everything with an arcane or use my physical brute force to destroy everything. Theres not just the skill setup but also the LOTS of weapons to weapon's sandbox and the enemies react differently for each weapon you use. So you said halo have variety right? Of course that im CE you have the multiple path thing. But stealth? How you even do that? The analog stick button is the button to sneak. You dont have the control of its sensibility and when you would stand again because of that, the paths in most of the areas have soldiers helping you and them just sucks because you cant sneak with them right there. And the weapons? Theres no silenced weapon in any halo game aside of ODST.How da fuck you stealth in there? And halo 2 and 4 are so fucking linear that you just shoot your way throught. Do you want to talk about the level design? Because i remember the Ce's library and most of its levels after the flood reveal. Dark Souls actually makes a great comparison. What's the first thing in Dark Souls? An exposition dump. And it's handled _really well_ because it's a narration told with the texture of an ancient legend or some such, and it quickly and succinctly establishes the major backstory of the world without going into intricate detail. And then all the _actual plot_ of the game itself is full of layers upon layers. There's a really basic, simple, straightforward story that gets handed to you, but underneath that are suggestions and implications and little details here and there that you can use to _infer_ completely new information. Destiny is just the cliffnotes version of every single Bungie game ever made.

Great video. I was never confused about the story until now. I could accept easily that it was light vs dark, but my problem was with how these were represented in the game... The Traveller, the Speaker, the Stranger all seemed to exist as engines of intrigue. I loved it then. It was only week into D2 when I started wondering things like 'Where did the Stagger go?' 'The Speaker is dead, do we need him for anything? What does he even do?'
it's PAINFULLY obvious "10 year plan" means for the franchise, not a single installment. in that regard, YES halo did have 10 year plan with just bungie alone. the rumors i followed which make more sense as to what went wrong talked of how the story was gutted months before release and key talent began leaving the studio. they hobbled together a shell of a game that was empty on the inside.
I can understand Bungie for wanting to get away from Microsoft. I really do. Creative Freedom is a good thing to its core, and it was a bold and brave move on their part. But what MADNESS, persuaded them to go and sell their souls, to one of the most strong armed oppressors in the history of gaming? Fucking Activision!? They'd have been better with EA, and that's really saying something! Why did they even bother with leaving Microsoft if they were going to do that? Microsoft aren't great but they aren't nearly on the same cancerous level as Activision. They actually have some credibility and occasionally release good games.

When I play Destiny 1 the biggest feelings of emotion I had four it would have to be in the beginning, after the prologue. When your Ghost is looking for you, when it finds you and you go through the building the first time and then you find your fist ship. It's the feeling of mystery, excitment, intimidation, and thrill. After that its just Bullshit, and random people you see online like in an MmoRpg. Rpg's aren't bad but this game wants to be one so bad. But the game still has potential to grow
I have to disagree with a single point: Game design actually is easy. Knowing what systems you're using, why they're used, how to balance them, all that stuff is easy peasy lemon squeasy. It's so easy a website full of unpublished amateur game devs have figured it all out. The "hard part" of game design is just implementation. Implementation means making minor tweaks to ensure balance, to ensure fun, and to ensure a quality game. The other "hard part" of game design is keeping passion for a project high enough that you actually CARE about the finished product and don't say, "eh, good enough". Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 suffer from these "hard parts". They made no tweaks to ensure balance. No tweaks to ensure fun. To tweaks to ensure a quality game. Their passion for the project was very low or non-existent. But actual game design itself? Hell, I went to their forums a month after Destiny 1 released. I'd run all the content except the Raid and the Nightfall (because I didn't have a group to run it with) and decided to critique the game someplace they could find it. I outlined every system in their game that was screwed up and why it was designed wrong. I outlined how they could fix it. Their "marks" currency capped at 200? No reason to do that except to keep people from dismantling the gear for the upgrade materials or to keep them from getting the DLC gear immediately upon launch. Except, there's a better way to fix that. Namely, OFFER MORE THAN A SINGLE SET OF GEAR FOR EACH CLASS. PROVIDE 10 DIFFERENT GEAR OPTIONS SO THAT THE MARKS ARE USED MORE OFTEN. Simple. Easy. Requires very little work within any Game Engine they use. Their glimmer cap of 25K also made no sense when the stuff was so easy to earn and was unspendable on anything. I mean, the whole game was full of "bad design", and it existed as "bad design" in order to get stupid players to buy the DLC or to spend a lot of time grinding for nearly no content. Hell, I can program three different gaming engines to have an "infinite inventory" and "infinite bank", but Bungie couldn't do that at all? They cited "memory problems"? Seriously? What kind of fucked up backward coding were they DOING? In most engines an "infinite inventory" is literally like 50 lines of code. An "infinite bank inventory" is literally like 25 more lines of code. Near as I can tell (and they never elaborated on it), their "memory issue" with the inventory was on SERVER SIDE. Namely, they had this amount of memory they wanted to store on their own servers and were unwilling to budge on making it larger for fear it would cost more or create a larger "lag time" to loading into the game. At which point, you have to ask, "so... why aren't you using compression?". Or, even better, "why the arbitrary limit at all? Especially when the only time you'd need to access the data in your bank is when you access the bank". Basically, they don't know shit about even programming. And I mean, it's not like even I know anything about programming, 'cause I seriously don't know jack about it. What little I can code is so basic and roundabout and inefficient... But, when I could do the job better? We've got some serious fucking problems. It isn't that "game design is hard". Because it's not. Everyone uses an engine with pre-built features or easily modifiable features. The only "hard part" about game design is CARING ENOUGH ABOUT PRODUCING A QUALITY PRODUCT. That's it.
I thought destiny was going to be a bit of a borderlands / mass effect 2 hybrid , multiple worlds to explore, interesting weapons , less cartoony and a bit more story and depth to the world than the borderlands games, I was really looking forward to it. Mateusz Jaskolski Same reason my grandma is addicted to playing slot machines and my niece addicted to candy crush. It's gambling like Skinner box design. Designed to get you high from the roll of the dice and that one time you got something cool. You keep rolling and rolling and playing and playing. Act Man has a wonderful video about it and how this tactic has wormed it's way to almost every game these days, no longer the speciality of scummy mobile games preying on the young and ignorant, now preying on the complacent but dumb.
Ziggaton Meh I think there's a difference - I regret paying for shitty cut content and what are you talking about is this case, packs random gambling. Both are bad.
I mean to say Destiny and Diablo like games are all about that gambling like design. Beating bosses and rolling dice to get better weapons which let you keep rolling dice to get ever better weapons.
Nice video as always Act Man, I've been playing Destiny since the beta days way back in 2014 and I remember when the story of vanilla Destiny ended I remember sitting there somewhat confused and not knowing what to feel. It was such a shame because this universe is so fascinating but they never explore it in game, they've got the lore, which I've read much of, but again the lore for some reason, never appeared in game. Also the original Destiny story makes Halo 5's story look like the pinnacle of video game storytelling.
The only thing Destiny has going on for its a lot of eye candy and the lore (the raids are cool too, but after a while they become stale). Overall, its boring. The story is a chore, the characters are as flat as iCarly and their is no DLC, you just pay $40 dollars for a "key" to access already ingame content.
If I had three wishes, one of them would be for these game devs and writers you have to watch your review a thousand times in it's entirety. Gaming is my passion and I'm glad I didn't spend money on this.

If I had three wishes the first would be to stop Activision from tampering with Destiny 1 as I imagine the entire world would have been different if Destiny 1 was what it was originally meant to be before Activision butchered it. I think the issue with Destiny is that they tried to be TOO vague and mysterious about what the darkness is. A prologue is actually a pretty good idea. Gears of war kinda does. Instead of telling you everything about everything that lead up to the 4th game, they instead let you take part in those past wars. They SHOW you and let you experience the gears universe instead of just TELLING you.

slvrcobra1337 Did you like the rest of the game? I liked it but i thought the atmosphere wasnt as good as it was in the old games.

I sunk a hefty amount of hours into playing Destiny 1 and 2, and I could not tell you a single thing about any of the characters/ story/ lore that is associated with either game. I just think the combat and gameplay feel real good, and I like the feeling of constantly earning more powerful weapons/gear.
This pretty much sums it, it ain't much but it kept me playing it for 3 years straight
I mean it’s not that hard to figure out. Zavala is the lead titan commander,Ikora is the lead warlock and cayde was the lead hunter and now the dude that runs gambit is the lead hunter. Zavala, cayde and Ikora were the three leaders of the guardians until cayde got killed in the forsaken dlc of destiny 2. We get our powers from the traveller which gives us the light and the main enemy “the darkness” wishes to snuff out and kill the light ie the traveller. There’s whole RUclips videos out on the destiny lore of you actually care about it
But, why get better gear? Why, when you're just going to put the game down at some point? Endings are just as necessary as beginnings

@@Jrdotan Truth and Reconciliation was a stealth mission, incentivizing the use of Melee and well placed sniper shots, reach had a similar mission.
In destiny you cant compare number of weapons, because of the looter aspect which in terms of the discussion doesnt matter, you have effectively the same guns with slight differences. Fundamental gameplay in destiny boils down to go to this area protect Ghost and shoot baddies. There is no way to pacifist run Destiny. @@Quietplague2000 D2 launch was fine for abt a month. Then it went shit real quick
@@DaToby98 i remember starting with Destiny 2 so i didnt have a clue how bad it really was. Then i saw how Destiny 1 had much more than we did in 2017 with d2 i got mad. Glad the game is on the right path now
The only effect Destiny had on me was it was my first FPS. I thought it was cool at the time, but when I tried CoD (MW3 to be exact) I realized how boring Destiny actually was.
I was so happy to get to finally play a Bungie game after I bought a PS3 over 360, only for the game to be boring.
sadly they kept the good and fun content in dlcs that costs almost as much the game costed

When is the "why is halo 2's campaign so hard video with hokiebird coming out?"
Been pushed back on that a bit, had to switch gears and finish these two videos on Destiny. And I got a PAX video I'm obligated to make/finish so after that I'll be working on that with Hokie! Thanks for the patience, my dude!

See this is why i cant be positive about destiny 2. Its too similar to this heaping pile of garbage and the only improvements are just common sense. Like that shit shoulda been there from day one of the first game. So yea, as a person who has invested time into this game, i can say that it has so mich potential but is just not there. The new game is better when it comes to chores and loot drops and story but still lacks in level design, weaponry (reskins), and depth of upgrading ur character. It doesnt help that it looks and feels the same and still has 30 fps. Basically what we got now should have been what was released years ago and today we should be playing something mind blowing
8:58 are you suggesting that The Room was a good movie??
finally, someone agrees with me!

9 hour downloads…damn I remember downloading Battlefield 4 on my PS3, a 24 hour download, had to get out of bed every 2 hours to make sure the system hadn’t shut off because rest mode and automatic downloads didn’t exist yet
Those were the days I don’t miss
Until just recently in my rural area all we had was DSL (for 90$ a month). 1GB took 2 hours to download. MW took like 2 weeks, partially because they released an update and my download restarted at like 80% or so. Luckily rest mode downloading was a thing.
Oh you wanna play with yours friends and progress “BUY OUR DLC”
Fall out wolf 23 thats the fucking point of a dlc is extra content why the hell would they drop a dlc and not make you buy it and add a lot of stuff

And that another reason deleting content from your game is bad especially.
Stagger?
2:25 stop complaining act man for me it takes 12 hours to download 7 fricken GB
Actman : It took 9 hours to donwload

Nahuel Arroyo That’s what I did with Destiny, and I’m in America and it was with an Xbox and it still took all night
it's PAINFULLY obvious "10 year plan" means for the franchise, not a single installment. in that regard, YES halo did have 10 year plan with just bungie alone. the rumors i followed which make more sense as to what went wrong talked of how the story was gutted months before release and key talent began leaving the studio. they hobbled together a shell of a game that was empty on the inside.
MrHandss
Same happened with 2,they will never reach 10 years.
Your use of Rush's "Show Don't Tell" made my day.
got halfway through the video and realized "oh shit, this is destiny 1." it literally looks the exact same to destiny 2. so sad.
Lol
Angry Joe's Speaker: "I could tell you... but I won't, bwahahaha!"
HisHolyMajesty Sometimes restraint can be a helpful good thing.
I remember playing this and thinking “I thought this was supposed to be the next halo”
I loved destiny and destiny 2 and everything about them...... but I do have to agree with what he is saying about the single player campaign and how it was awful... love your videos man and even if I don't 100% agree with them, I still enjoy watching and hearing other people's opinions on games I love to play. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
I got completely triggered when I saw the thumbnail but then when I thought about it I was like,
“Shit dude, he’s right!”
Yeah... yeah same tbh... It is ALL exposition... all grimour cards. That's where the lore is...
Even though I’m a fanboy, I can definitely say this is right. Story’s absolutely pathetic weaselshit and there’s no way around it
How do i washed the taste of shit out of my mouth?
Sold my ghost edition for more money than it cost me!
I have to disagree with a single point:
Game design actually is easy.
That's it.
Good comparison to borderlands. I always call Destiny just borderlands with better graphics and zero charm.
And zero fun
graphics is more of a subjective thing though.. boarderlands has an art style
I thought destiny was going to be a bit of a borderlands / mass effect 2 hybrid , multiple worlds to explore, interesting weapons , less cartoony and a bit more story and depth to the world than the borderlands games, I was really looking forward to it. I wasn't a happy lad when I got it ... Could have been so good
But Borderlands is better than Destiny, MUCH better.
Out of every game I have ever played, this is the one I regret the most.
Huge fan of Bungie. I even have a Master Chief helmet
Imagine if the darkness was as cool as the borg from startrek
I regret the time and money I spent on this game and DLCs. I don't even understand why I kept playing it and spent over 1000h and keep doinf THE SAME levels and boring exotic quests
“You say all ends are beginnings but I don’t feel like anything began” I LOST IT😂
What campaign
Caz wym what campaign the fucking campaign in destiny
DEGOBEATS he was making a joke dipshit
The only thing Destiny has going on for its a lot of eye candy and the lore (the raids are cool too, but after a while they become stale). Overall, its boring. The story is a chore, the characters are as flat as iCarly and their is no DLC, you just pay $40 dollars for a "key" to access already ingame content.
Thats what dlc is?
I played this game with my TV audio off so I didn't have to hear the boring characters.
RandomProductions82 it wouldn't be any different if the volume was on blast
If I had three wishes, one of them would be for these game devs and writers you have to watch your review a thousand times in it's entirety. Gaming is my passion and I'm glad I didn't spend money on this.
If you are a single player lover you wouldn’t have liked destiny. But if you liked doing raids, Collecting armory, Destroying in extremely competitive pvp. playing the game with endless stuff to do was great. That being said I put in 1000+ hours into destiny.
If I had three wishes the first would be to stop Activision from tampering with Destiny 1 as I imagine the entire world would have been different if Destiny 1 was what it was originally meant to be before Activision butchered it. Second wish would be for Bungie to still own Halo and the last wish would to never run out of money
@@l2sky3 I normally hate single player games 😂 I love being able to play and fuck shit up with the boys so this game was my shit for a long time too. The raids in destiny one were fucking legendary
