Theres more to this character, some details that you can see from her flashback, but its so bad - it would've been better if she didn't have it at all.
One of my closest friends is actually a curator at the museum the Vanguard devs went to for their "research". He told me he had prepped an entire lineup of different variations of weapons and such, but the devs told him word for word "we just want what looks cool". They blew off almost an entire tour, took a handful of pictures, and left. The lack of respect for history really shows in the game.
They could have just used google. But, SHG is the dumbest studio that acts as deadweight like a mother views their baby before throwing it in a dumpster because it was too late for abortion. That is SHG. Axe the studio microsoft
Explains a lot as to why the game looks the way it does. Man, we were so darn spoiled back in the 90s and 2000s with all those World War shooters that made honest attempts at capturing the authenticity of the time period.
honestly, with how powerful modern consoles are and the large budget these companies have, there's no reason we can't large scale, multi-front campaigns and multiplayer like WaW. Show us events gaming rarely does like the Chinese front or Soviet invasion of Finland. People aren't necessarily over ww2, they're over the low effort and generic depiction of it.
100% true. We're sick of seeing this cookie cutter type shit everytime there's a ww2 game released. Give us something unique and something unforgetable, something not taught in schools. More then anything, give us the fun that we've deprived for in the last couple years in the Call Of Duty franchise.
One thing people always forget about is that vanguard zombies doesn’t give you a reason to use certain attachments. Also, it will not let you use others

@@MysticalHaloV2 Imagine telling a Call of Duty fan who's currently in the year 2011 that the undisputed worst game in the franchise will be a Modern Warfare game. He wouldn't believe you. I went in thinking that MWIII was going to be pretty good, on par with MWII, and then I got kicked in the teeth by this shoddy excuse for a _DLC_ that cost 70 clams. How far has CoD fallen that a Modern Warfare title is currently being lampooned as the worst game yet?
Honestly, Actman is right, if they went out of their ways and made an Alternate Universe where everything is steampunkish and had weapon modification aesthetics like in Bioshock, it would totally fit in Edit: Holy shit I didn't expect this to blow up, nice to see so many agree with me, you too Actman, nice to see a good homie.
@@TheActMan how about a WW2 game where Steiner attack actually happened and the war continued or WW2 ended with Japan only. And there would have been something like Korean War were Me262 and F86 Sabre would dogfight? Sounds Awesome despite being not steampunkish

Yea because when you make a new game every year, it’s easy to make iconic characters in each franchise. They can’t use task force 141 in every game homie
They are very detached BUT to be fair, Given the context that statement was said and they were comparing it to Master Chief, they're right. CoD has no one that even remotely compares to Master Chief when it comes to iconic. Every gamer on the planet, whether they've actually played Halo or not, knows who Master Chief is and what franchise he's from. CoD doesn't have anyone like that. You could show a non-CoD fan say...Captain Price and they'd have no idea who he is. He's just generic rugged soldier man number 1052.
@@Rawnblade13 Im not saying your wrong but I feel like captain price and his bravo six going dark is extremely iconic, same with mason and the numbers. The thing is going from older periods of war to advanced warfare then modern warfare, an just going back and forth with decades of war it’s hard to bring those iconic characters to every battle, that defeats the realism of the weapon mechanics and the storylines and all that. Master chief is known throughout each halo because it’s more fictional based. Also I think a lot of people are forgetting that when vanguard came out, they had those worker strikes right after, they were upset because the lower people were being let go, and they’re wages were being used to give the more critical workers higher revenue. But people got upset and said that’s not right, then we were left with more workers that weren’t willing to put maximum effort into it because they’re not getting paid enough. The problem with vanguard is that they actually did try to use the community feedback to help create the game and make it a better experience for everyone.
@@mikegate6764 Iconic to a CoD fan, none of that reaches Master Chief levels of iconic though. Unfortunately for CoD, due to the realistic military setting, you can't really make a character with an iconic design and it's all just generic soldier stuff. Not to mention how due to constantly switching settings, CoD can't really establish someone as iconic as Master Chief. Which is probably why the devs on Vanguard went for some pseudo Avengers-style characters, even if it doesn't really work for WW2. Master Chief works and has become iconic because he's in almost every Halo, has a unique, distinct, and easily recognizable design, and it probably doesn't hurt that Halo games don't come out every year, so they don't all blur together.
My great grandfather was one of the few veteran Japanese soldiers who survived the Pacific war. Only reason how he was able to live was because he had to be decommissioned and sent to a physiatric ward due to PTSD when he saw his commander issuing his squad STG44s, MG42s and antique shotguns. His last words were: *Not the reflex sights...* Edit:I could say that my grandfather fought on My team, the enemy of the enemy team, but that would be too confusing
I can't tell if this is true or not. Cuz, the last words seems way too ridiculous to be true. Like, if this is true, your great grandfather had a good point.
There's a pretty anachronistic oversight in dialogue in one mission, during the Australian mission when an soldier yells "RPG!" Which wouldn't make sense because the term RPG wouldn't have been coined until the 60's when RPG's were actually invented, and Bazooka's in WW2 weren't even considered RPG's they were recoiless rifles.
The biggest turn off for me was when they brought out the “historically accurate” claim. That’s when I knew I had to bring out the popcorn and watch the shitstorm
I'm so glad that they got the historical accuracy on point for this COD game. I remember reading in history textbooks that the guy from Attack on Titan was witnessed t-bagging soldiers on the beaches of Normondy.
I remember when my grandpa told me about the horrors of World War 2, people getting stabbed with sledgehammers, the conflict between My Team, and Enemy Team, fighting against Attack on Titan characters, drum mag Garands, and other horrifying things.

In the campaign, when you were in the train, looking at the box and they threw a flash bang at you. Flash bangs weren’t invented until the 1960s by the British
And, thanks to MGS3, I know that the Flashbang was made to be a "training grenade". Once the S.A.S. realized the uses of "Stun Grenades", they started to spam the fuck out of it. And they still do it! And so does every other country's special forces.

Definitely one of the worst regimes in history, the enemy team, is really well portrayed in this game by showing the atrocities committed against the my team
It's weird, I need answers. In multiplayer, it's my team versus enemy team, but in single player, I'm playing as enemy team. So... is it supposed to be symbolic that we are all the same? That war... War never changes?
So for those who are wondering initially Vanguard was not going to feature a zombies bonus mode at all as Treyarch was thrown into development only 6 months before release, however due to Treyarchs reputation and Activision threatening higher ups they conceded only 10 weeks prior to release and developed a very shoddy zombies game mode. The kicker is due to Vanguards (for once) unique take on the engine Cold War could NOT be used as a basis and Zombies had to be made from the ground up in just 10 weeks. This is the reason for so many features missing in the mode.
I mean this as a dig at Activision and not The Act Man: It was genuinely hard to finish this video because at certain points I couldn't stand to listen and see some things that aren't/are in my once beloved Call of Duty

I can truly say that the game has only gone down hill since we lost Verdansk... They have atleast cut down on some of the hackers in the Warzone lobbies... Well said brother.

If the Act Man didn't make a review on this game, I honestly wouldn't be mad. I haven't played it but the footage I've seen convinces me I made the right call.
Wanna know something cool? There are still assets from COD2 in Black Ops 3, and probably Vanguard as well. Every COD game they share the new stuff with the other studios their library is insanely huge at this point. COD1 used some Return to Castle Wolfenstein assets but then with COD2 they forked the idtech 3 engine and put all their own assets. Oh here's another one- You know when you go to a door in Zombies and it says "This door is opened elsewhere..."? That script is leftover in the engine all the way back from Quake 1 circa 1996
Yeah and that animation is actually from BO3. They really need to chill with the teleporting shit in zombies, it was cool when it was only between two related locations, not two random areas like a german city and shi no numa??
One cashgrabby method they used is weapon blueprints. Like Act Man said, the attachments give you a severe advantage against other players. So blueprints basically say: “would you rather grind 10 hours for good attachments or spend your hard earned money” it also takes away the feeling that you at least earned that attachment you wanted and grinned for.
I'd like to add something onto this, Vanguard's "new" KotH-type mode was already done in DOOM 2016's multiplayer and there it was called Warpath, they legitimately just pulled it out of a better game.
That interview with the lady saying CoD has no memorable characters is just a sad reminder that the people who make important design decisions in games don't actually play them... which more often than not just translates to a game that is just out of touch with what made the series great originally, trend/profit chasing, and just disappoints existing fans entirely
Not only that, they don't care about the history, the entire story isn't even accurate, the "bloodiest war" isn't even shown to be bloody, the characters too are bland, no historical figures also shown.
I haven't played a CoD campaign since BLOPS 1 and I can still remember at least 4-5 standout characters from MW1, MW2 and Black Ops 1. My cheeks are there no memorable characters lmao
I hate cod vanguard as a historian. The STG44 firing mechanism is located in its stock, so how can you remove the stock and still fire the gun?! Gay German soldiers, heavy racism in the British army, and cursed weapons modification. It just insults history.
Racism in the. British army.. Or any other.. Makes actual sense it's the 20th century.. But them making the British army... The German one.. Yeah agreed.. Wtf
If it was the US Marines, the cursed weapon modifications would've at least made sense, given what the Marines did in ww2. Literally made a machine gun using parts from 3 separate guns.
Not to be a picky player but when I played the campaign, I noticed in the Pacific airfield portion the Japanese were using StG 44s and Lugers? Around 1943?? It baffles me because the Japanese weapons are available in multiplayer…game was rushed af. World at War was and always will be the best Pacific campaign I’ve played.
There was a historian watching the gameplay and commenting on it and a LOT of the weapons were either in the wrong time, at the completely wrong place or both. You could find a german hunting shotgun in the japanese mission. You could find STG 44s before it even was 44, you could reload panzerfausts which were one time use ... You could even find the Volkssturmgewehr, which was in service about 2-3 months before the end of the war. WaW did the weapons right, you could find respective weapons only when they made sense. The FG42 in seelow heights e.g. was correctly placed, because the seelow height battle actually featured a german paratrooper unit.
I'm playing world at war right now and damn it, they could just remaster It and never touch anything that don't need to be fixed,.except the mp40 damage
The flash bang they got hit by shouldn’t have existed in WW2. It didn’t get developed until the 60’s and wasn’t officially used until the 70’s so the technological inaccuracies go beyond intentional. Either that or they were too lazy to think of an alternate scenario.

Same here, The Last Jedi and The Last of Us Part 2 have given me more entertainment value from video essays about how bad they are than they have by themselves
One of the less talked about evils of CoD Vanguard is having an American storyline in the campaign, but only allowing the player to use two US weapons (the M1911 and M1 Flamethrower) even though the US firearms were arguably some of the coolest in WWII. Also, I like how Sledgehammer included Jackson on the team because he was a master fighter pilot, but then made him do missions on the ground as a grunt (because apparently the most skilled commando the US had at the time also just so happens to be the most skilled pilot as well). Not to mention the ludicrous notion that the US and Soviet Russia would agree to send their best soldier to fight on a team behind enemy lines rather than keeping them to use on their own fronts. And one last thing. Sledgehammer had the 93rd Infantry Division rescue the pilot once his plane was shot down by the Japanese to score brownie points from people who only care about whether or not the game is inclusive. The problem is the 93rd really only did construction work and occasionally played a defensive role during the war, yet they’re portrayed as being part of like a tank battalion. I get the feeling Sledgehammer just Googled, “all black unit wwii,” and picked the first result that came up without doing any actual research. Not to mention that the 93rd weren’t even at Bougainville during the time the story was set (nor were StG-44s for that matter). If they gave a shit, they could’ve done a storyline about the 761st Tank Battalion “the Black Panthers,” who fought with General Patton during the Battle of the Bulge rather than a construction unit to give the illusion of inclusiveness. But then they couldn’t boast about the campaign including all fronts of the war in their marketing I guess.

It always astounds me how AAA titles have like zero scope when it comes to WWII, even after over 20 years of the genre being around. Like literally have a conflict that spanned for 6 years on almost every continent of the world, but if you ask a activision employee the conflict took place from 1942 to 1944 in France and Russia. Activision had the balls to let you play as a mass shooter almost 15 years ago, but they still don't have the balls to let you play as the Germans in a cod campaign.
same with not having a swastika any more and only having the iron cross, because that's apparently "offensive." So if you're able to play a game rated M for "mature", why is some logo on a flag going to offend you? COD used to be so good, the last good COD game was black ops, which came out in 2010, and actually had swastikas in zombies. Everything now is a bunch of woke garbage. They're definitely was black women enlisted as US Marines storming an island in the south pacific killing Japanese soldiers... totally.
@@internetuser8371 Yah, the irony of the entire thing is really palpable, ever since "the nuke" in cod 4, cods thing has been being edgy and going for shock value. 5 you got to see serious war crimes committed by all sides, MWII you had the airport massacre, black ops you had the reznov twist, etc, somewhere along the way though they became a lot more politically conscious but at the same time tried to keep the edginess and gritiness of the past games, so the entire thing just becomes a convoluted cringy mess as a result. I would love if they just went back to the basics of like the first 3 COD games and just dropped the plot and even characters for that matter, and just had you play through set pieces that actually happened during the war and that we have never got to see, like playing as the finnish during the winter war, or the poles trying desperately to fend off the german blitzkrieg (and then later playing as free polish forces in italy) or how about you follow a group of german soldiers from barborrosa and show everything gradually go to shit for them. We need a cod game set in vietnam with multiple characters, kinda like vanguard, like 1 person who is a marine FORECON, another person who is a MACV-SOG operator, a Green Beret, and an Army Ranger. The story would basically be set in 4 different areas, one in Tay Ninh, one in Khe Sanh, one in Hue City, and one in Da Nang. The MACV-SOG operator will be in Khe Sanh and Da Nang, the FORECON will be in Khe Sanh and Da Nang, The Green Beret will be in Tay Ninh and Khe Sanh, and the army ranger will be at Tay Ninh and Hue City.
Vanguard could have done a storyline where the war didn't end in 1945, and is pushing into the mid '50s, and so the arms technology race progressed even faster than in reality. This would been a probably universally accepted reason for all the weapons attachments, and the spec ops squads being akin to Cold War-era units.
You know, the saddest thing about Vanguard is that, according to early leaks, they were _originally_ going for a Wolfenstein-esque aesthetic of an alternate history where the Axis won WWII, but changed their minds at some point. And do you know why that would be? Could it have been to be more accurate to WWII? Could it have been because they believed it to be somewhat disrespectful to history? Nope. It’s because they need the game to tie in narratively to World at War, Black Ops and Modern Warfare for Warzone. You can’t have an alternate history where the Axis won because you can’t do that without the MW and BO timelines being broken. They’re trying to do, like, a fucking Call of Duty cinematic universe with all their games now by connecting it together, and it just limits their options and dilutes the story.
Ironically, even with Vanguard at launch, there was no connection to any of the previous games including Cold War and MW 2019, so then it begs the question: What was even the point of going for a big connected universe if your own game doesn't connect to that universe?

It's a shame the game got so much hate. But frankly its deserved. Hopefully she will get more opportunities to work on other big games in the future that are actually good games.
Whats more Ironic is the fact that more recently there was a news article that said that Vanguard failed because “No one likes WW2” The fact that activision needs to blame fans instead of making an actually good game is laughable at best
Correct. WW2 based games aren't the problem; It's the fact that 80-90% of all WW2 games almost exclusively focus on the Western Front loaded with cliches, cardboard characters, and Hollywood style action sequences. In other words, WW2 games aren't the problem; It's how generic and cliche most of them are.

But they don't have the balls to do that.
And if they'd be worried that "ThIS GaMe PrOMOtEs NaZiS!!1!!" the protagonist could be horrified at the atrocities commited by the Germans and become a informant to the allied powers.
Agreed. I've been wishing they'd do a campaign with German soldiers. If you look at history, there were quite a few who actually did the right thing at the end, like Josef Gangl who died fighting off SS forces alongside American forces to protect French Prisoners, or Walther Wenck who ignored orders from high command to try and retake Berlin, choosing instead to create a route that would allow civilians to escape from the oncoming Russians, then surrender to the American forces to the West. Heck, even a made-up campaign of a German soldier getting swept up in the speeches and promises becoming disillusioned and ultimately hating the Nazis after seeing the camps and helping the allies advance would be cool. Here’s a cool idea for a game mode: Air Raid, one team plays as planes like fighters/bombers, the other plays as the airbase defences, like flak cannons and AA guns, the goal is to capture the airbase by getting C47 style paratroopers for the plane team, and wait for air support for the defence team
It's astonishing how technology has advanced in the last decade, yet Call of Duty titles continue to come out on a yearly cycle with less and less innovation each time.
The moment that she said COD had no noteworthy or iconic characters is the moment I knew this campaign was doomed. Though with how ambitious they were going with it (In concept) I kinda adore it, but the execution was not exactly the best.
My least favorite thing that’s happened with recent cod multiplayer lobbies is you never play with the same lobby twice. It’s new people everytime. I understand why because when people have different modes selected for queue you can’t have them all play TDM if they have four other modes selected. I just wish you could choose single modes and match with other players in those modes and stay in the same lobbies over multiple matches
Best one is the operator they put in the game who supposedly fought in WW1 when he was -2 years old (Bio says he was born in 1920 and is a WW1 veteran, WW1 ended in 1918 for those who don't know)
You know it's extremely sad how far we've come. One of my closest friends is actually a curator at the museum the Vanguard devs went to for their "research". They blew off almost an entire tour, took a handful of pictures, and left. The lack of respect for history really shows in the game.

The "not having iconic characters" thing shows just how detached the company really is from their franchise. Expect failure.
Yea because when you make a new game every year, it’s easy to make iconic characters in each franchise. They can’t use task force 141 in every game homie
@@clownbaby3877 The point was that they said COD has *NO* iconic characters. Who cares if they weren't in this COD.

Sadly that takes foresight

This scene has a higher chance of happening than me ever playing a full match of fucking anything in vanguard
