  • I'm looking for the best way to sprout broccoli seeds so I had to give this device a try, the Kitchen Crop Sprouter comes with a packet of alfalfa seeds (so we'll also test those out at the same time -the results may surprise you too!) Sulforaphane is a powerful natural plant compound that has been shown to offer numerous cancer fighting, anti-aging and heart healthy benefits and broccoli sprouts are one of the highest sulforaphane content foods. Save money and have fun watching your seeds grow into loads of healthy microgreens in just a few days!

Follow the directions and you get perfect results. The issue is NOT your seeds, it is the amount you used. I am constantly making Broccoli sprouts without issue. I have owned these trays for years.
TIP: when I first start a new tray of seeds, after watering and the water has gone through all the trays, the seeds will often be clumped together. So, remove the tray from the stack, add about 1/8" to 1/4" of water, shake the tray a bit to separate the seeds, and then place the tray back in the stack. This usually only has to be done for the first 2 days.

Like others, alfalfa does great but I found that when I do broccoli I had to just spray them with water twice a day and it went much better. Don't let them bunch up.

I have 3 of these spouters. The first one worked perfectly so I ordered two more. They didn’t drain the water like the first one. I took a tiny drill bit and drilled out the holes. Water now drains perfectly on the other two and I’m on my 4th successful round of sprouts.

I believe it! I really think the key to successful broccoli sprouts is thorough drainage and i think the pre-drilled holes are too small to let all the water out. 👍

Thank you for making the video! It was very helpful. Just a comment, you may have added too many broccoli seeds. The companion booklet warns against it. Again, thank you!

This sprouter gives very little airflow to the germinating seeds, and takes a while to drain flooded water. Not sure if it's really workable in my country since it's very hot and humid here all the time. Plus it's very easy for smaller seeds to choke up those tiny holes...unless you use a coffee filter paper to lay the smaller seeds on. I think big seeds would work well in it though!

Seeds should always be pre soaked (full immersion) about 4 hours before sprouting process begings. You can use a toothpick to push any seeds out that lodge in the drain holes. I have this sprout stacker and I think it only requires watering 2 to 3 times in a 24 hour period, as the tinier seeds stay pretty hydrated. I'm wondering if too much watering may be why the broccoli seeds failed, or maybe it's just that they are pungent in general, and weren't actually bad? I'm still experimenting. Its possible the jar method is going to win out. I do like the stacker though. Super easy to use.

thank you for your video. I have had the same problem with Broccoli sprouts going sour with this method - I watched your mason jar broccoli sprouting video and I'm going to try that idea of rotating the jar to spread out the seeds. Thank you for your videos. I use this crop sprouter with mung beans and lentils and it works great. I have even sprouted rice. But Broccoli always gives me problems..

I've been so happy with the jars, have you tried them yet?

I didn’t see you rotate the trays top to bottom daily. Maybe I missed it but could that be why the broccoli seeds went rancid?

Hi, I did do that but I didn't include shots of it in the video. I'm still going to try this device again, I've received lots of suggestions and am willing to give it another go with them in mind

You put way too many seeds in each tray. The Manufacturer says "Do not over fill. The seeds cannot be on top of each other. They'll ROT 😅

@@marykayriley I have the same sprouter and it works excellent. Just give the seeds more space to grow and you'll LOVE that Sprout Grower. Also rotate the trays after each Watering or at least once a day.
      Good Luck 😊👍🏻

You did nothing wrong with the broccoli sprouts. The smell that you remarked about is the Sulforaphane, The good stuff. all you need to do is rinse them a couple times.

if broccoli is too strong for you , you might try Kale , cauliflower, red acre cabbage, peas, sunflower. There are many choices .
