Great review! Glad they're co-developing a BEV and FCEV depending on what the customer wants. While this may not be the end-all in terms of transpiration solution, it's good to see continued efforts and competition to try and make progress.
Hrmm… I’ll believe their practicality when I see them attached to a fully loaded trailer and their real world distance and performance is measured. Truckers make money with more distance traveled in a day, can’t really achieve that with constant long stops to charge if their noted capacity kills the battery like the F-150 lightning does under its near 10k lbs load capacity. Still a great showing, a shame this company has a rep of being mostly vapourware in selling its products, but it’s intriguing to see these come out.
Yeah these still make the most sense for short hauls. I think Pepsi is using most of it's Tesla's for within a 100 mile radius from their distribution center near Sacramento. But even if they're only good for that, it could still be a game changer for the trucking industry.
Looking at most of the comments it’s people with no experience of running trucks, and do not understand the business at all. Firstly the interior of the cab is the standard Stralis interior. The IVECO Stralis has a much better look than either of the Nikolas. The chassis length of the BEV needs to be shortened for weight saving, maneuverability and aerodynamics between the tractor and trailer. When are they going to allow experienced truck drivers and commercial vehicle journalist run these at full weight on a test route? You think they would want to be at the forefront showing what they are capable of and give a real idea of their plus and minus points. Let’s compare operating costs per mile, transit times on the route with different drivers. Make no mistake, Volvo is the leader both in Europe and North America regards electric trucks. Nikola, or Tesla are not in the picture at all regards, experience in supplying, maintaining trucks or supplying parts, let alone sales and demo teams. ALTA do not have the experience or people qualified either in my mind. Yes, they have properties around the country, dealerships for various manufactures of construction equipment but it’s a different ball game. Are NIKOLAS going to be sold outright (financed), leased by themselves or third parties. What’s the warranty, are replacement vehicles available for downtime if there are certain issues? Who is going to recover and work on them? Where are the parts coming from? There is a lot of work, investment and training needed yet. Let someone with experience put them through their paces and give a proper working review over a period of time in real life conditions. Blue chip companies are just taking advantage of free trucks as demonstrators and virtue signaling. What’s the update on the infrastructure to keep these trucks rolling and earning. I am an optimist but it’s going to be a long haul before profitable loads are carried. 🏴🇺🇸
tesla semi truck will be the most succesfull, one thing tesla has shown is its ability to build out its own domestic charging netwerk, established supply lines to make 4 new models of cars in 10 years as a start up, and risk aversion when putting their money down such as wanting 50k trucks by 2025,these truck are already being used by pepsi in real world use to collect all the data needed to figure out their kinks, im a realist, EV trucks arent ready but rising diesel prices will force companies to make the decision to go electric regardless.
@@miguellopez3392 It’s good to be a realist but manufacturing trucks and running them on the same work night and day, day in day out is a long way off. No body knows Tesla’s purchase price, lease/ maintenance/ parts/ warranty/ emergency break down cover or any real life factors. I haven’t seen anything from Pepsi in professional terms to convince me otherwise. PepsiCo is using Tesla to virtue signal, with the free yes of trucks. They are hardly going to tell the truth and lose out on freebies. They are not paying the bill for maintenance and if they are down it’s no cost to them either. VOLVO and DAF in Europe have many models of electric trucks in service and being ordered at dealerships just as any other truck. They have support systems to, and have been in the business for many years. I’m a Musk fan but trucks are a different game. At the end of the day it’s going to be the operating costs and reliability that dictate the market. Diesel fuel costs and taxes could be cheaper with the right people in the White House. Competition should be on an even playing field, eg, no government discounts for electric vehicles which costs us the tax payers. That should be illegal as we do not get a say in it👎. 🏴🇬🇧
@@pauljohn6637 um you do know the US subsidizes oil in the US? the government recently fave them 60 billion to ramp up production, they did not remp up production an instead payed that money to stock holders as bonus divedence... why? because increasing production would drop the price they can sell it at, so why would an oil company spend money to make less money? it is true that operating cost will determine the market which is why tesla is making the truck in the first place, fuel cost and Maintenace are the 2 things it does very well, teslas charging network is not like the charging networks of others, tesla is making megawatt level chargers, these are more expensive but make charge times much less of an issue, try finding another electric truck that is even close to putting 300 miles of range in 30 minutes.
@@miguellopez3392 Hi Miguel, I wasn’t aware of this administration giving money as an incentive to ramp up production. It doesn’t make sense if they gave the cash without guarantees. Who in their right mind would do that? The problem is it’s our money (taxpayers) and should as I say be illegal. It’s almost impossible to find out the truth here of what is subsidized and who gets what. You should not give subsides to one entity hoping to bankrupt another. Competition is good and this should be what controls truck and fuel prices. Each should be taxed on their merit, with no malice to either.
