Man, Roy was NOT feeling ANY of that 😂

Yeah, Roy's not as enthusiastic as Kyle! 😅😅
@@rnursemd Roy's less enthusiastic than a vegan in a butcher shop 🤣
yes was thinking wow he's kind of rude
School busses seem like the perfect use case for electric conversion from diesel based on their typical usage/unused periods and I’d love to see what some drastic electric school bus redesigns look like.
There are many local heavy-duty cargo applications that are similar to school busses.
It isn't the "glamorous" long-haul scenario, but it's where a LOT of the trucking miles get covered, and e-trucks will slot in perfectly right now (so long as charging infrastructure is there)
Alas, the US schoolbus market seems to be a monopoly and probably because of that the E-schoolbuses have basically been minimum-effort conversions from what I've seen.
It's certainly a perfect application and I believe some of the Dieselgate money was earmarked for it.
In Italy, ENEL is experimenting with wireless charging by inserting charging strips into the listening device. While driving the vehicle charges.
@@gefryfostuvi2184 This isn't too important for schoolbuses. For long-haul trucking, though, absolutely. Germany is experimenting with catenary power for trucks.
Kyle. Local LTL Truck driver here... Got to sit in the Nikola last weekend at the Alabama grand prix. BEV will absolutely work for city work(ltl, beverage, parcel etc) I think the problem is most companies use those tractors as road tractors first then downgrade them to city status at like 500k miles. So it would take a whole new fleet to separate between the 2. Which of course would be $$. The hydrogen over electric would be a lot more seemless for most fleets if you could fuel them.
The Tesla semi unveiling was an absolute joke I don't know how much smart people miss so much about the industry.. saying drivers will be able to charge while loading/unloading over the road will probably never happen. There's some places they don't even let us use the bathroom! Keep up the good work
Well stated. Let's actually see real truck drivers put the Tesla semi to the test. We don't need powerpoint demos with glowing promises.
@@joemcdonough7509 videos right here on RUclips of actual Pepsi co semi drivers sharing details of the range and charging etc. 👍🏻
Ignores the reality of hydrogen. Liquid and compressed hydrogen simply boils off, and you lose considerable volumes of fuel per day. Using it would cost considerably more per mile than direct electrification, up to 3x.
Next where is this hydrogen going to come from? Natural gas? The CCS tech to make it less polluting doesn't work reliably, international experience littered with failures. Green electricity? We've already got a job on our hands decarbonising current electricity use, and expanding it to cover direct electrification of transport. Suddenly start using technology like hydrogen that requires 3x the number of wind or solar to be built than otherwise.
It's just a distraction to keep people using oil instead of switching to BEV.
Is it perfect, no. Does it require lots of charging infrastructure, yes. Is it still lightyears more sensible than hydrogen? Yes.
@@4literv6 I'll check em out. Thanks!
Hyliion ERX will be the truck for this market in the near term hands down.
The lack of engine noise will be a godsend for people like me who live in a small village with a major through route running through it and lots of tractor units hauling loads revving through the gear box in the middle of the night……..
LOVED IT!! More videos in the Commercial Sector please!!!! Next up please----Lion Electric!!!, Ree Automotive!!!, Xos Trucks!!!, Protera!!! Canoo!!!, Lightning eMotors!!!
In North America, if you're talking about Class 8 trucks, Freightliner is the 800 pound gorilla in the room. They have about a 38% market share.
Last year at this show, they introduced the e-Cascadia electric version of their Cascadia, the truck which totally dominates the Class 8 segment. The CEO made a remarkable speech about how critically important it is to transition trucking to full-electric. Sadly, this amazing and important event got almost zero coverage on RUclips.
I, for one, would really appreciate some coverage of what is happening in this space.
As best I can tell, Tesla and Nikola are the standouts, although I have not seen any independent verification of their range and performance claims. After them comes Freightliner (owned by Daimler) and Volvo Truck (Swedish owned). In the rear are the other North American truck OEMs, all of which have electric offerings, but with VERY lackluster specs. It would be great to see someone do a RUclips round up.
Definitely want to see more of this. ALL fleet vehicles with fixed routes and a dedicated home base should be BEV. I mean, is there a more perfect product application for BEV? Almost all mail trucks and school buses, local delivery vehicles like UPS, FEDEX. Could do so much more benefit than passenger vehicles
This is awesome. love to see you drive this Nikola. I drive a 2022 Freightliner Cascadia for work; it's such a feat to see this industry embracing change.
Fleet operators want these SOOOO bad for the fuel and maintenance savings. I know the old-timers are turning their noses up at EV trucks, but when drivers experience that quiet, vibration-free ride they're going to be sold.
Looking g forward to Construction Trucks of all sorts to move ti ELECTRIC Trucks. Dump Trucks, Concrete Mixer Trucks, DOT Trucks, Electric Company Trucks (Bucket/Cherry Picker if that's the slang call for these type of trucks), Utilities Trucks, Heavy Hauling Semis, Garbage Trucks, Earth moving Tractors... ...
I absolutely want to see the electric ambulance, especially how it handles aggressive stop-and-go driving.
I suspect it would handle Stop-n-Go better than a typical ICE ambulance. Regen would give it an advantage.
I'd like to see an e-Ambulance as well. Just last night I heard an ambulance struggling to get off the line...I heard it OVER the siren!! I think the electric torque would be super helpful for our ambulance crews and their patients.
EV ambulance 0-60 3.75 secs lol
@@castro619a Strap down the patients to the bed - or scrape them off the rear doors.

Hylion review upcoming?
That was so cool watching the Nikola just start up and drive away. It was just so effortless, i so want to drive a heavy duty electric truck. So so impressive
I'm really glad to see truck like this. This needs to be in every port in the us moving cargo containers.
More truck content please! Thank you!
Kyle I can't wait to see more content like this. Absolutely no one is doing this!!!!
Really? Not one else? No one has a juice in this hand
Keep it coming!! Electric makes the whole transportation industry cool so I’d love to see more.
Nice to see all the extra room in the cab that you get by removing the big lump of iron in the middle, traditionally the big disadvantage of cabovers, which often has surprisingly little room in the cab because of this.
Most Euros don't have a hump, even with diesel engines. Only the smaller cab style ones do, and even then, it's small. my Merc truck has a full flat floor.
Glad to see the return of cabovers to the North American market. The view is epic in a cabover. Would love to see more content on EV trucks, just because the conversion of this industry needs to be accelerated big time if we are ever going to make the leap to non-combustion vehicles. I’ve had my class 1 for over 30 years and while I don’t drive trucks any longer I still love these big rigs.
would be neat if you found one of these shows close to ya an asked to test drive one, since you got class 1 im sure they would let you take the wheel with a demo guy with ya
For longer haul routes Tesla's more aero shape is preferable, but for city routes where BEV really shines anyway cabover is probably better.
@@concinnus cabover is better for shorter haul.
Yup I'd drive it just because it's a cabover lol. Not a fan of electric but love love love me some cabovers. Can't wait to put my 53' spread refrigerated trailer behind it. Plus a cool ass paint job on it. I'm only dreaming, hell I'm a car hauler, this truck means nothing for my industry. Still love the cabover though!
@@lamara8497 i love the hydrogen truck although the design is not the best, it’s still very good.
One thing i hate about the american market for semi truck trailers and semi’s is the amount of outdated stuff that’s already been in the european market for years.
Good report, thanks. I drove a diesel big rig for Halliburton in Colorado to oil rigs. It had a 3 shift knob w/5 gears, had to double clutch & be sure not to miss a gear before going downhill! Wish they had me drive this BEV instead.
Need to see FCEV nikola truck pls. Appreciate your level of detail.
Great video. I love watching the out of spec channels. Keep up the great videos. I am a owner operator and I own a 2016 Western Star 5700xe. I’m very interested in the electric semis and look forward to buying one when the charging network grows. I have a 2023 MYLR and I love it. If the semis are anything similar to that then diesel is on its way out.
This content is great Kyle. Keep it coming. More trucks, planes boats, tractors, etc...
More content like this please! Love seeing how battery electric vehicles can be used besides just passenger vehicles.
This is cool! I saw one of these Nikola's probably 8-10 months ago on I70. I don't know how they have been out, but it was the same truck you were in.
I love the idea of electrified semis for short haul duties. Living in Los Angeles, I see thousands of semi trucks daily going between the port of Los Angeles and the trainyards in Ontario. Electric trucks could completely handle this. One of my buddies drives a rig on that route nightly. (Then drives his Lexus SC300 home.)
The pollution created by the diesel or ICE trucks along this travel corridor, particularly along the 710 freeway, has a tremendously negative health impact on the communities who live next to the freeways. Making those trucks electric would be hugely beneficial...more beneficial, as Kyle noted, than transitioning passenger cars to electric.
Drayage trucks hauling from the port will be a HUGE application for these?
Yep BEV for city work and solutions like what Hyliion has for long haul cross continent trucking.
I would definitely love to see more videos on more medium heavy duty vehicles!
Truck driver here and I can’t wait to see more. Only thing I am a over the road driver but ever step counts.
Amazed it's a European shape lorry
they have the licence production sent to them - mainly because European trucks can be lighter and they are the only company to work with Nikola
it's an IVECO (Italy)
Saw one of these in March on my trips to LA, the dude let me film a video inside and sit inside the truck, it was so cool was about 300 or 400 mile range
Nikola trucks are already all over the place in the ports of Long Beach and San Pedro in LA. I'm a truck driver myself, and I see them every day.
Drivers seem to be really happy driving Nikola trucks. Not to mention how cool they look 👌👌👌
Hyliion is a must review
Awesome! Very cool to see. Please if you can see if you can get a ride/Tour of a School Bus. Busses, Delivery vans and Transport and Semi trucks are going to be a huge piece most people and places dony think about.
OH WOW. I thought its not even start wow super cool and specifically no noise........INCREDIBLE
Finally Out of Spec reviews Nikola products !!! Absolutely been waiting for it. And thank you so much Kyle !!!
Incredible, thank you for covering this BEV segment!
Good to see NIkola push past their very rough start. Smart minds are finally in control.
18:36 Good camera work Alyssa! I want to get my hands on a CANOO!!!
Would love to see more. Please do something similar with Hyliion. I've followed it a while and it is very impressive as well. 17:25 Kyle somewhat ignored/glossed over the impressive and critical route planning that dynamically changed based on what the truck and the particular load that day would compliantly be allowed to travel on.
Glad they could turn around and actually get electric and hydrogen trucks going.
Very cool! I love seeing the commercial applications make more EV inroads. Like racing, i think the technology and what is learned will always filter down to the road cars in some way.
Great video as always. Been following this company for a long time. I really hope they make it.
Hey Kyle~ FYI, this cab over truck is just as "American" as it is "Euro," it was the standard from the 40's to the early 80's in both regions, lets not forget Asia where it has always been the standard. Great RUclips videos about why you don't see so many on US roads. How about 'cab over or cab forward' from now on? Keep expanding your areas of focus!
Former trucker here. The vast majority of Class 8 miles are driven on trips under 300 miles. Yes, more range will be better, but fleet operators can re-jig routes to take the best advantage.
I'm not totally negative on fuel cells, but I think the real solution for long-haul trucks will be swappable batteries.
What about Electric Range Extenders like Hyliion's Hypertruck ERX? It's electric but charges the battery with the on board natural gas generator (and eventually hydrogen fuel cell)?
@@zazea35 You’re not going to get away from the sheer energy cost.
AU is doing the swap option. Saw it in one of the fully charged show youtube
High Time, US moves to a nose free modern trucking.
We call those “cabovers” and they were popular in the US in 1960’s because of length regulations. After the regulations changed, they sort of faded away for several reasons such as difficulty of engine access and no sleeper cabs. For short / medium range BEV applications, they probably make sense again.
@@-Jethro- They make sense for all applications, also for long range. We have only this kind of Trucks here in Europe.
@@vasiliyt8600Honest question: Are there sleeper cab versions? That’s a big deal for long haul trucking in the US.
In the medium to longer term you’ll get an in between a cabover and a long nose where it looks much like a bullet train, such as the Tesla Semi or the Nikola Two, since it’s the most aerodynamic, allowing for longer range and that’ll eventually become dominant in U.S. trucking
@@-Jethro- Yes, of course. Maybe not a big as some supersized American one, but there is enough room for multiday tours.
Check out for example the _DAF XG+ 530_ .
It's getting better all the time.
Yes please! More Truck content! TY
Love the commercial vehicle coverage, encourage you to put out more videos on these vehicles!
I'm 76 and still driving a semi,
Back in the 60's. When you were talking to your co driver you had to look at him, her and yell so they could know what you said !!
I used to drive a "twin stick" that's two stick shifts, 5&4=20 gears, the only problem I see with electric truck vehicles is because there's nothing to do, it will be harder to keep alert and not get tired from doing NOTHING for 10 plus hours a day, But I'd like to drive one !😂 Last week I was on I-5 s/B going up the Grapevine Hill, north of Los Angeles, California. And next to me was a Nikola pulling a 48' flatbed with appropriately 40,000 lbs of concrete blocks 8x5,000 lbs. I was driving a FREIGHTLINER Cascadia, 10spd 465 hp. dd15. And I couldn't keep up with him !
Great introduction. THANKS
Truck driver (owner operator) here.
Great introduction video Kyle.
Hopefully you can do more of this,so I don’t have to do to much research,jk.
I am EV enthusiast, and would absolutely love to own EV semi truck in my lifetime.
From business perspective,it’s absolutely no brainer, just because of the operational cost.
This first generation of battery powered semi trucks is very limited.
It will be great for local operators, fleets that run within 150-200 mile radius.
And operations that are not weight sensitive
Kyle mentioned 27000 lbs curb weight, class A semi (studio sleeper) weigh around 18500lbs dry,20000lbs with fuel.
And trucks used in local service (called daycab)are probably weighing no more than 16k lbs with fuel.
But,regardless of weight deficiency, these trucks can and should be utilized in local transportation businesses.
Someone here mentioned LA ports truck traffic in comments, that would be perfect application for this truck.
I hope to see more of these on the road in the future
idunno about anyone else who loves your channel,
but YES more big commercial electrics please, i love semis an construction equipment an there is alot more E-struction equipment these days its awesome !
Very good informative review, thank you !!
Super interesting! Love seeing these vehicles getting better.
Great to see Nikola getting back on track after the Trevor Milton debacle. Both their BEV & Hydrogen trucks look great. A factory tour, sounds excellent...
What are you talking about? Trevor Milton is Nikola. What has changed since he left? Nearly every manager that was there during Trevor is still there. They keep conning people into trying to buy their stock but no one wants to buy their trucks. They just assemble Ivenco trucks and resell them at way to high of a price.
@@Aircam73 I've got plenty of faith, that Iveco & Bosch can build BEV & Hydrogen trucks. And as that's whats happening, with Nikola acting simply as a reseller perhaps there won't be too many ongoing problems. Trevor Milton only owns about 12% of Nikola stock now so his malign influence is probably somewhat moderated. Besides which he is shortly going to prison for fraud, grand larceny & sexual assault(s) so he will have plenty of time to contemplate the error of his ways...
@@Charlie-UK It is still his company. The same people that were running it under him are still running it today. They were at minimum complicit in the way that everyone was deceived. Nothing since then has really changed. Since he left they are still bilking hundreds of millions of dollars from investors only to assemble a pre made truck. Nikola has no special capabilities, no patents, no tech just an assembly plant that took 3 years to build when they could have purchased any number of buildings for half the price and been up and running immediately. This is just the long version of the scam that is finally coming to an end as their stock drops below a dollar and their trucks continue to sit unsold on their and their dealers lots.
@@Aircam73 *Iveco
@@MrStian78 I have nothing against Iveco and wish them the best but to partner with such a fraudulent company like Nikola is not a good sign for them. Also their push for hydrogen will not go well.
This was cool to see and to go for a drive.
Very cool I like building these beast of a truck impressive power the have on the drive unit and it's acceleration. Like working at the production plant. I do want to move up and be. A spoke person too. And show clients our products. I'll see ya at the plant with your crew it's be awesome to see you pal.
Nikola is the best seen a lot on the road 🎉🎉 they will dominate
they've delivered very few tractors; and only in California
Thanks for the content!
They’re still alive!! I bought their stock years ago at $29. It tanked. Those shares are still hanging out in my portfolio just laughing at me. Maybe they’ll be worth something again!
"Is it one-pedal driving?" ......................"Yes it has a brake pedal and accelerator" lol
He already miss the smell of diesel.
Brake 1 pedal + accelerator 1 pedal = 2. He said one
Roy didn't shut up did he, you couldn't get a word in. He was a bundle of fun. Great video. More please
Yes Kyle more "Big Boy" toys :) from construction equipment, school buses to big rigs. I would also like candid interviews of drivers going electric. Heck maybe another channel with a CDL driver as a channel host. Just a thought. Thanks you too for posting......Love the Big Tonka Toys :)
Nice Iveco truck.
I would love to see you do the Nikola plant tour and H2/Fuel Cell vehicle review.
Would love to see more of this type of content. Perhaps interview some fleet managers who have purchased large numbers of EV’s (big or small).
Love the fleet videos!
This was really interesting. Thank you
Great video! Thanks!
Ok..good new improvement, design teams also very good.👍👍👏👏👏
Need to do all heavy vehicles , bus, emergency vehicles. These are very important to assess . Enjoy your presentation and videos.

Yes, we want to see more trucks!!
Absolutely love Nikola! Fantastic brand !
You need to review Hyliion, they have great technology. Hyliion is the way forward as well
Absolutely awesome ACT coverage. It would be interesting to see what’s going on at ConAgg Expo!
Nice video. I'd like to see a review of the fuel cell version.
Great review !
The megawatt charging station that truck needs is not realistic. Truck companies have been told by their utilities the amount of power they want to charge Nickola Tre charing stations can't be delivered. Look at the Hyliion KARNO engine to deliver the power to charge the Nikola Tre trucks without taxing the electrical grid. Better yet, just get a Hyliion ERX with a KARNO engine in it and solve the problem all in one... 1,000 mile range!
Saw one of these in Omaha, Nebraska. Looked really nice on the road!
MORE MORE MORE!!!! LOL I like al knowledge, you never know when it might be useful.
Hope NKLA can keep the lights on and not dilute all the way to bankruptcy 🤞 Hyliion’s Hypertruck ERX in the background of this video will provide long haul routes a competitive TCO with diesel while being net carbon negative with RNG 😊
Need more Nikola videos. Amazing
Good stuff!
Love the big rigs. I want to see both the trucks and probably more importantly the infrastructure. Where ever they put the infrastructure for these over the road big rigs is going to lay the foundation for the truck stops and travel centers that will help regular cars and trucks as well. Infrastructure is critical and would love to see more about that, what plans are out there, and possible timelines. You obviously aren't going to be pulling an 18 wheeler into a EA car charging location. So lets see what is planned and when we can expect to see it.
I want to see the ambulance as well!! Would love to see how we could incorporate that
Looking for coverage on Workhorse W56. 9:56 Can you show us some shots? You could compare it with BrightDrop.
The way they combine the chassis pieces from other manufacturers is really interesting.
This is great but oh boy, Roy wasn’t in the mood😂
That was an awesome video. I had no idea Nikola was actually a legit company. Does GM still have shares in the business? I love that it is a cab over. I hope to see way more videos from ACT.❤
Amazing ❤ cannot wait to see one of this in Italy
definitely want to see more of the big rigs
Do you have any videos of the Hypertruck ERX. Heard it had negative emissions and long range
GreenPower is building electric school busses here in WV. Several state school boards have put in orders for these busses. They seemed to handle our hilly terrain with minimal issues.
Have you had a chance to check out the tow behind trailers from Dethleff (German) or CTC Boulder (Colorado). The Dethleff has its own drive unit that seams to greatly mitigate range loss from towing. Would love to see your take on either! Thanks. Love your videos.
Have a look on Hyllion Erx truck 🎉, then make the comparison 😊😅
Hyliion video 100%
More electric heavy vehicles will definitely be interesting to see. An actually under-its-own-power Nikola is a refreshing change
That truck looks spacious 👍.
Time for a visit to Austin to do a Hyliion tour and ride and drive. We'd all love to see your review and hear your experience in a truck that's a real solution.
Alyssa needs one of these.
Just getting rid of the noise of compression release will make this a huge hit with consumers
Did you squeeze in Anna in the cab as a camera operator? Great camera shooting! 😲😲😲
Roy absolutely didn't care, might be having a rough day
On a side note....you did that whole 2 hour plus video, now this, and it looks like you haven't taken one sip of your drink.
