I have been receving Russell's lessons for a while & finally I tried the " chair behind the butt exercise ", I can't hardly belive the difference it made to my ball striking , I'm actually swinging slower but hitting the ball much further . Try it, it works.
The reason this is the only lesson you will ever need is because it manages to quietly pack in the two hundred necessary elements (under the guise of 5 simple principles) for a successful and repeatable swing. I'm working through these and am currently on the second element. Only 198 more to go... All kidding aside, this is an amazing and comprehensive lesson. Thanks for posting this.
This is by FAR the best video that addresses hard core fails in my swing! I see these poor habits in my golfing partners but not in myself. In retrospect, I have the very same challenges! I will take your recommendations to heart in my practice, while gathering video. I am SO frustrated with my inconsistencies that I have lost a great deal of the pleasure that is supposed to be "golf". Thank you kindly Sir for providing me with a tangible template of sorts, with which to give me hope.
This is probably the best comprehensive pieces on golf instruction I’ve seen in one video, ever! Great work Mr Heritage. I hope people watching appreciate how much great advice they’re getting for free here👍🏼🙏🏼
Great vid Russell. In line with Hogan’s 5 Basics. I think is famous “secret” was a trigger he found in re-centring the start of downswing. In his book he refers to the turning the left hip to start the downswing as the glue that puts it all together. I think people misinterpreted this as a full turn to the left and then spin out. I think your description Is what he felt. Once he found the trigger to put him in this position every time he became a machine.
Great to see your swing in slow motion,to see when your hips open & how much yours are forward at inpack, this is very helpfull, thanks Russ. Mike Summers.
Russell, Your presentations have progressively gotten better over the past year and a half. While you still show some of the technicalities the practicalities are so much better. The applications of changes are really helpful. Thanks for sharing your talents.
Very nice video covering all important points of the swing. Interesting and to the point. Good explanation and at a great time when everyone is getting outside to the course.
Brilliant Russell, many tks. Hip depth and the drill is the one I want to focus on now. I'm off 5, a fairly consistent 5 but most strikes are toward the toe. During this lockdown I've been working in the garage by using a squash ball, practise net & a tennis ball placed at 11o'clock of the squash ball (when looking down on the ball as a clockface). I've been trying to contact the tennis ball after the strike and its been very, very difficult I can tell you! I'm managing around 5 out of 10 at the moment but improving. How? by really focusing hard on keeping my hands ahead of the club face/pointing the butt of the club toward the ball on start of downswing and maintaining it. It's bloody hard. I've clearly (I think) got into the habit of an in to out club path hence playing with a slight fade on most shots for the best part of 30 years. The hip depth principle intrigues me. I've always felt I tend to spin out so I'm looking forward now to tomorrow in the garage with your hip depth drill.. I'd be interested in your view if you have time. Very best regards, a wonderful channel and always extremely well explained without it sounding patronising whatsoever. PS - you've got yourself a world of pain now the missus is starting the game. Happy days man, I'm a Russell too, Gt.Yarmouth :-)
2 years late to the video but the overview is in my opinion as powerful if not more powerful than a rear view or face view for this specific step of the swing. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. Since I started videoing my swing I notice that I am moving fractionally nearer to the ball in my backswing. Looks like a postural thing in my setup. You have given me what I need to fix that. I can separate but I have limited external rotation of my trail shoulder (and wide shoulders as well). Will work on using that arm for width
Great videos. Watch them from time to time Question, if you dont mind. How much does gear effect mean on driver ? I havent hit balls in 3 months, and just started hitting a bit again, inside in a sim ( trackman ) my numbers. Clubpath / -1.6 Face angle / -1.1 Face to path / 0.6 But the drive went 45 meters to the left, but it was also hit alot towards the toe Most of my drives went more left then normal. Played a small draw, before the 3 months break And what causes a toe strike ? To far away from the ball ?
Great video. Very articulate sir! Question: at the “top” of the backswing, you mention keeping the trail knee or leg flexed. Won’t that inhibit hip tilt? Or are you not concerned with or believe in hip tilt? Thanks mate!
Great video. Within my lack of knowledge, it does seem to cover the fundamentals to be able to enjoy the game. Struggling with #3 Separation right now... not sure what will come next! Any recommendations to improve on that? When I feel that it goes well, so the ball flight! Most of the times it doesn't... Thanks.
Great video Russ, I have seen most of your tutorials (many others) and really enjoy the manner in which you present them. I do wonder though what a medium to high handicapper would make of this one as I can't help but feel it's too advanced, or perhaps too much information in it. For example, I don't recall coming across the term 'separation' before in all the lessons and videos I have seen except yours of course. Maybe tutorials should be classified for low, medium and high handicappers? Just some random thoughts.
My butt sticks out to far behind me and i dont feel the stomach crunch from pushing hips forward before bending forward... I used to stand to upright so got told by local pro to bend from hips forward but now lm scared i bend to far forward and stick bum out. Ill have my remaining lesson when things open up.. This will be something i ask about... Cheers
After watching this, I messed around with the hip depth concept and I could really feel the extra space for the club to move into position. This was the first video I’ve watched that really made me want to take a lesson from the instructor, but sadly all of your lesson plans are sold out.
Make it sequential like Russell says, if you try everything at once you won’t get very far. Start with posture and achieving hip depth, don’t worry about the shot outcomes, just film it and try to achieve it. You’ll probably miss the ball, doesn’t matter. And go from there...good luck!
I've watched his videos for two years and he has helped me more than the tens of lessons I've taken over the years! Rotation, rotation, rotation is the key as you will learn from him. Keep it going and you'll be down to a 10 or 11 by summers end
Andy - you have to get out of your own head! Try this - look at yourself in the mirror and say "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me."

Yeah I think many of the greats stumbled across this move

Mike Summers.
Very helpful. Thanks much Russell. It helps me visualize what I need to work at.

Very comprehensive... Well Done !!!
I watched this video several times and appreciate the details... posture and laser are big take aways! Thanks

Amazing! Quick Q - why do you draw the plane line from hosel up the elbow, rather than straight up the club shaft?
Those five points were wonderfully put across. Thank you.

Fantastic video thank you Russell.
What is the laser light path on the downswing compared to the backswing. Thanks for very good videos.

Top quality coaching.
OMG great and simple technique to maintain width.
Thanks Russell - very comprehensive.
Outstanding content as always, thanks Russel 🙌🏼

Damn, u gave me a lot to work with and I appreciate that. I look forward to digging in to your materials. Many thanks!!
Excellent video again Russ - great content!

Great summary video!
Good stuff. Here endith the lesson.
Great video Russ
Quality as usual Russ 👍
Excellent video!!
What causes the arching or rolling of the back? Is it just poor posture, or are there other factors?
Dont get the thumb position. Shall thumbs be on same side or oppisite sides?

Great lesson. I have NEVER had anyone explain the trail arm function to me like that. I've been doing it all wrong....
Just think, if this is the only lesson we will ever need, then, you will no longer have to make another video. 😂
🤔
Demoralising just how many things I’m doing wrong
As a bad twenty handicapper I’d just like to be not terrified on every single shot

Hands.
O
Why do teachers claim this but continue to do more videos?
have to say find your videos so so complicated and contradictory. make it simple please
