Although these changes are welcome and have been long overdue, the xuv400 reportedly still has older battery tech compared to nexon, which is the single most important thing which should have been improved. Even the reviewers don’t bother to speak on such crucial matters… quite strange.
What exactly is old battery tech? NMC is more energy dense used in everything from Porsche to Rolls and more expensive. Tata uses cheaper LFP batteries which have more cycles and don't suffer from thermal runaway. Both battery tech exists for different needs.
Full charged Xuv400 delivers only 220kms when driven at 70kmph. The Car estimates are off by 25% where it shows 300kms but actually delivers only 220kms. Cars also takes 2.5hours to full charge from a 30kWh Fast charger. Edit: Please watch Range test videos on youtube by authorised channels such as Gaadiwaadi for reference
I am using one of this I am getting 280 in a single charge with Ac. The car support 50kw and only takes 15 mins to charge 50-80 which is so quick compared to its competitor. Also never calculate the time to charge from 0- 100 try 0-80 Because it's a universal rule to reduce charging speed after 80%.
With such low-range stats, it is only suitable for city drive (especially metropolitans) and not long distances. Furthermore, a common Weekend traffic jam around tourist destinations such as ones seen at Shimla/Manali/Mussoorie may drain the battery completely and leave the passengers stranded waiting for rescue in cold. So a big NO for long trips (not suitable for even 200+ kms ones) Even Banglore traffics jams lasting 2-3 hours on an average pose a risk of battery depletion especially if the battery is not 100% charged when started with the journey. The EVs require daily refuelling/recharging. And by the nature of batteries, the cells are prone to get weaker over time, hence, the battery backup is bound to deteriorate with time thus delivering even less range. (While most EVs give warranty on battery for just 7-8 years while the EV range starts deteriorating after just few years)

Some Nexon lovers are commenting like xuv batteries are inferior than Nexon My observations are... NMC (used in XUV 400) batteries are more expensive than LFP.(used in Nexon)... .. and because of higher energy density weight of NMC batteries are less so more suitable for automobiles... regarding battery charging cycle... ..if the NMC battery gives 1500 charging cycles.. for an XUV with 450 km range means a total of 675000 km... regarding thermal runaway...heat issue.... for NMC it is around 400 F and 500 F for LFP.... So if cooling system is working fine it will not create any issue or if cooling system fails both will have similar risk

This updated version of the XUV looks like it has ticked most of the right boxes and is ready to take on the Nexon. I would prefer the subtle, sophisticated look of this one compared to the Nexon. I am unsure of the technology being used in the battery pack but I know that a friend of mine gets around 360kms in the 39.4 kWh battery. Isn't it supposed to be Four Double O, and not Four Hundred? Coz I once heard from an auto journalist that every Mahindra cars name must end with an O.
@@TaizoonShikari good one. Now that you pointed it out, Thar has been rooting its DNA all the way back to when Mahindra manufactured Willy's Jeep for India. when we were younger we used to know it as Mahindra Jeep only. But then when Jeep actually entered India, it got redesigned, re-engineered and re-badged entirely as Thar in the 2010s (and somehow lost legal battle for its resemblance to Jeep Wrangler in Australia against jeep). So, compared to the current plethora of UVs which Mahindra is excelling on with entirely new design philosophy, Thar has much longer history. Maybe that's why they make it an exception. I dunno. My point being all the other cars are such that - ScorpiO, ScorpiO."N" (and not ScorpioN)., BolerO, BolerO NeO, MarazzO, XUV 5 double O ( which some pronounce it as 5 hundred), and so on. Electric cars in compare to ICE cars should've been cheaper to attract more buyers to make more EV cars on roads which was the government idea. But they're charging 3-5L more premium than ICE versions. It's difficult for manufacturers to make buyers mind towards EV.
I think the main reason buyers aren't gravitating towards EVs in big numbers is not their price, but the "range anxiety". Even if EVs cost a bit more than their ICE counterparts, their operating costs are a lot lower. But long drives aren't practical with current EV infrastructure due to long charging times and dearth of charging stations.
