- On the Big Story today, we cover the new PM E-Drive scheme, which will invest 11,000 crores over two years to boost electric vehicle adoption. Despite the government’s efforts, a recent survey shows only 5% of prospective buyers are inclined towards EVs, citing high costs, inadequate charging infrastructure, and limited daily use as major concerns.

Why are Politicians not buying EV??
Don't give them this idea. They will use taxpayers money 💰 to have EVs in their fleet.
@@ireview8621 perfect
Because they don't pay for Fuel. We idiots pay it, for them. 😅😅😂😂
Their fuel bills are paid by the government! So how will they show interest in buying an EV for either their personal or official use? Secondly, which politician shows interest in the development of the highways, service roads and setting up charging stations on the highways?
They do... Lots of it... Its free money guys for them...
Charging at apartments is another concern. Most of the apartment associations are not accepting to install home chargers in their parking slots.😳
Since everyone has their own stand-alone homes in Kerala, EV is a huge hit. Kerala also takes care of EV infrastructures in public places as people take care of it. Imagine installing EV charging stations in Bihar, UP, MP, Gujrat, etc; someone will steal the entire charging point the next day. We will have to keep a security then like ATMs : D
Obviously, who wants tickeling time bomb in their apartment parking?
@@gdgavali Then govt should ban ev's completely. Where ev owners will charge their vehicles ?
@@తురీయం government doesn't ban it that doesn't mean you are allowed to make other people unsafe.. every one has right to live and it supercedes the right to drive..
People who understands the technology don't even change their mobile phone without the supervision, forget about charging ev in their parking..
@@gdgavali EV's have many cons for sure. Ev buyer primaly would think about his safety, why would someone buy when it is unsafe? My question is when it is unsafe, why govt is promoting it?. Equally everyone has right to choose their vehicle. You can't force anyone. They also have equal right to live.
95% of ev charging station doesn't work on hiway
28% GST on charging
And, 18% Ji ST on payment through UPI.
So, 28 + 18 = 46% Ji ST.
Enjoy......?
remember when nitin gatkari said all cars should have gps.
and road tax will be charged for the number of kms driven.

Charging ev's r 80-90% at home. The rare 10-20% is still cheaper than petrol right?
Yes butpetrol takes 2 mins to fill not 2 hours. Also most charging stations might already be occupied. There are so few...@@bondnikunj
I waited 2 years for EV and finally bought Petrol car.
My reasons are
1. Range concerns
2. Charging infra
3. Cost of EVs and
4. Reliability of battery
Typical Indian brain
These are true concerns of middle class all over the world. These people don't understand that not everyone is rich. Buying a car is like an investment. Imagine middle class making a bad investment. We rarely have second chance.
EV's are not the future. Mind it. Because the Lithion ion mineral for the EV battery is a rare highest polluted component of EV batteries, Automobile Manufacturers should try to use minerals that are abundant and least polluted, as lithium ion is available in just 4 countries with 18 times more pollutants compared to crude oil extraction.
Stop pushing the EV with lithium ion battery fake climate change propoganda as the future, as it is absolutely false and fake, and you are destroying the future gerational prospects.. We can use Hydorgen fuel for cars and bikes as Kawasaki and Toyota has tested and resulted in huge success using hydrogen fuels, as it is also more cleaner than Lithium Ion and Petrol/Deisel.
@@mangalsingh-wc5ql Hard-earned money's brain!
Exactly! Then, Tax terrorism too....
Tax tax tax everywhere
High taxation killed the dream of middle class family to buy a car
Government first adopt ev. Their official cars, govt buses govt employees private car must be EV, then tell others to adopt ev
Do you want to see all government vehicles stuck on the way without charge?
@@ALIYYILA of course, yes
Ha ha...most of their departments (eg. India Post) are operating 30-40 years old vehicles, but the common man has to discard his vehicle in 15 years!
Imagine if every indian car owner has an EV. Instead of waiting 2 minute at a fuel station we have to wait 30 minutes each for recharging. Imagine how that will be with a nation of 1.5 billion people.
I am a happy owner of a Hyundai Kona EV. All that I ask for is increased availability of charging infrastructure and one single super wallet from where (like Fastag) one can charge anywhere. In fact why not make Fastag itself a payment mode for EV charging….
Middle class people cannot afford this car.
@@ambrosepravin2072 oh yes it was affordable because of the big fat discounts before they discontinued it
3 main reason
1. Very poor charging infra
2. Very expensive for the middle n low class of society
3. Time consuming it takes minimum 20 to 30 minutes to fully charged.
20 to 30 minutes ?? Which ev are you talking about. You have to spend a minimum of 5-6 hours to fully charge
Fast chargin(expensive) itself will take 50 min(now imagine if someone else is charging n u have to wait😢). Slow charging at home will take 8-10 hours😅
People living on rent will never buy an EV.
Why government and politicians not replacing their vehicles with ev...
. Useless cars...if battery goes off it's as good as buying new car
India is a developing country
And indians are paying taxes like a developed country
Govt is daydreaming
Reasons are simple why people are not adopting to EVs yet in masses....high price, range anxiety, poor infrastructure and poor resale value and insane battery cost.
High cost of insurance also. In an aaccident if battery packnis slightly damaged there is a risk of fire without any warning or it will be totalled by insurance because battry pack is the most expensive part of the car
Govt policy to phase out Diesel & petrol vehicles after 10-15 years is the worst policy ever and biggest cause of drop in sales. I own Maruti 800 which is 22 years old and run perfectly and passed all emmission check. However, I can't drive it in NCR. Its a depreciating asset for anyone, you pay 10-12 lakh rupees only to find it worth zero after 10-15 years and unusable. High GST is another cause, 45-50% GST on even a compact middle class car ? Are you joking ?. No EV infrastructure in place, no chargers, no mega factories, no service. no ecosystem.
Yes one department brings in posetive policies where as the other department comes with a counter intuitive policy . This government isnt work hand in hand like a good government should .
I feel automobile companies are lobbying different departments, EV companies are lobbying the transport department where as non ev companies or parts manufacturers are lobbying the finance dept.
No need to phase out, before that climate change will phase humans out😂😂😂😂😂
Most important reason not talked about in this show is... The lack of technical knowledge of the mechanics in case of any issues and the lack of spare parts. Which manufacturer is publishing the cost of all the spares like motor, batteries, controller, other electronics? Do they have atleast five of these parts at each dealer before selling the vehicle?
Tbh the conventional mechanic will go extinct in the EV era. Ain't no way he's repairing the motor or the touchscreen control panel.
Imagine waiting for hours in the line to charge that EV. On petrol pump, waiting for merely 5 mins, can make most people uncomfortable 😂
Bought BYD Seal, a d honestly despite being expensive do not regret buying it over ICE engines.
The smoothness & Torque of EV is unparalleled. Not to mention since an year not even have looked at petrol pumps. There are enough apps in india to help plan your long distance journeys. Most 4 or 5 star hotels also provide charging in their parking so no problem.
I understand the problem which apartment owners face but if you have an independent house, DO NOT EVEN THINK TWICE BEFORE BUYING!
4 stars and 5 stars? In India?
@ALIYYILA Seems like you visited India in 1947. Since then India has developed many folds. 🫠
@@ALIYYILAnope he only visits roadside muslim halal(spitted, urinated) hotels😅
Not everyone Visits a 4 star hotel. Exceptions cannot be fitted for others
Its not a problem for rich people like you. Rich people also buy luxury cars with very less fuel efficiency that does not mean everyone is not concerned about mileage.
People in the US are returning back to petrol cars due to lack of EV charging stations
If govt is really keen on increasing EV adoption some suggestions:
1. Mandate the offices to install chargers
2. Mandate all multistoried housing complexes to make adaptations for the flat owners to plug chargers
3. Set up buy back options for resale
4. Offer cheaper car loans ( currently it starts at 8-9%)
5. Ensure all intercity highways have chargers at all rest stops
Government is not making it easy to convert existing vehicle to EV or hybrid
I will never sell my diesel car untill its 15years old😂
Firstly lower the taxes on cars. Cars itself are unaffordable today.
I had sent an email to Nitin Gadkari on these practical issues the first time he anounced his plans to take this path, there was no answer
Will be no answers
Govt is not bringing Charging Stations. Due to limited range the customers get in panic. Repairs & Parts of EV aren’t easily & quickly available.
It's not that less. Most EVs have 300 km, which is fine.
this govts is hell bent to killing indian automobile industry..
And you hell bent on injecting deadly pm 2.3 and pm 10 from exhaust fumes deep inside your lungs.. happy driving ice.
The battery and the motor should be generic and not locked to the manufacturer
This doesnt make any sense whatsoever. Do you expect all ice vehicles to have the same engine ?
This is not socialism saar
The ROAD tax must be waived to promote EV.
Why? EV users are horrible earth destroyers with mining and land consumption for charging stations. They should be penalized.
They are also heavier for the same sized vehicle, leading to more road wear and tear on similar vehicle basis
Then, convenience tax at 200% can be collected, like railway and other ticket reservation systems.
How do you expect bjp govenrment to leave you without tax and Cess?
No one is really talking about the cost of electricity. The middle class is struggling with electricity bill and thinks twice before switching On the Air conditioner.
It seems as if the Save electricity scheme is no longer existing.
1. Charging points
2. Resale value
3. Battery capacity will cone down after 3 to 5 yrs
4. Apartments dont have Charging points.
Indians, by default, when going for a new car, lookout
1st- for resale value 😅
2nd- for mileage..
3rd- for mass of material worth!( there's a huge list of mechanical components in ICE vehicles as compared to EVs😀)
4th- for durability 😂
we don't have to move to EV if it's not road worthy
Ev infra is the main issue, needing 4C charging stations and supporting vehicles. Slow charging people can do at home, but the public charging should be a fast charger (90% in 10-15 minutes min).
One of the experts said car is an investment. I want to know how much money did he make from car. Is it better than fixed deposits?
It is An investment for my transport needs for the next 15 to 20 years. Thats not a light decision by any means
@@keshavsakthi546 By that logic, anything you purchase could be called an investment. For example onion & tomatoes could be called investment for food needs, shirt and pants would be investment clothing needs etc.
My take is, anything that is claimed by the government as a “drive” is most likely a scam. They are just passing the cost over to the consumer.
Unless government starts with their own fleet, don’t even think about EVs. India isn’t Europe but government acts and taxes like one
If the electric power charges are one rupee per unit then Indians will buy electric vehicles
10 years of diesel cars
15 years of petrol cars
Toll tax
Road tax before purchase of cars
And other 1000 type of taxes
Imposing eV on comman people's like gst etc
And other more problems these are some reasons which I think some major problems
Because we dont want to replace cars like mobile phone.
Even in EUROPE no body are buying EV .... Our government misguiding .. like 10-15 years re registration cars, scooters and motor cycles.
Forcing people to buy EV without proper infra to support them and compounding interest on interest is a very dumb way to expect sales.
I was planning to buy a car, so I went to the showroom to know about the prices. My running is not much (as I would be driving only during my weekends or if I need to go somewhere for some other reason) even then also I was considering an EV but the EMI that I have to pay didn't justified my pocket that also for tiago ev. Instead of that altroz petrol was lighter for my pocket & it was spacious as well as luxurious. Also there was no subsidy for the EV car.
Instead of EV nonsense, try to improve roads and prevent traffic congestion. That will reduce actual emissions and improve the environment. Nonsense discussion.
Rascals are putting huge taxes on 15 year old cars....the dream of aam admi to own lifetime vehicles was destroyed to give profits to auto manufacturers. Regardless of non sense emissions which were never checked correctly
EV is definitely not a viable option today for various reasons:
1.) Unreliable battery efficiency
2.) No charging infra. What if you live in home where there is no parking nearby?
3.) Expensive vehicles
4.) No full proof of battery life
5.) Not a reliable option for long distances
6.) No expertise service centres not even 5% available
Instead i propose hydrogen based fuel cells that means cars will run on battery but charging or power source must be via hydrogen
Hydrogen is very risky, less efficient, and higher cost. It has all the disadvantages of a normal ICE car.
Do u even have idea how difficult it is to transport HYDROGEN And also how can you be sure of that technology
Stupid range due to less than 80% efficiency of what is claimed- less than 300kms real life range is impractical (needs to be near 500 kms a charge for cars and 300kms for a bike), poor features, very high battery replacement costs...uber high prices to begin with.
Good , keep it like that. So that ev users like me will have no problem charging at t fast charge stations.😊
Many people live on rent and migrating the charger could be difficult as owners might not approve an installation.
The reason I wouldn't buy an electric car is that I read about new electric cars exploding at factories, on ships, and at showrooms. Since I haven't heard of new petrol cars exploding at these places, I feel battery cars are unsafe. They say research shows that petrol cars catch on fire more often than battery cars, but I wonder if the research is reliable. Do new petrol cars catch on fire as often as new battery cars? If research shows it to be so, I could buy a battery car.
10k charging stations with many not working against 18 lacs charging stations in China... How on earth does the GOI expect people to switch😮
Reason is simple that is EVs are expensive and the major population are poor.
It's amazing to see that entire discussion took place on electric vehicles without even mentioning the largest electric vehicle manufacturer and the market in the world that is China!!
I mean it is important to understand what they are doing right and prudent to ensure the at least in their domestic market the electric vehicle is doing good business
Income tax, Vat on fuel, toll tax, GST on everything else, tax on severance need i elaborate more
The major issue is the price. The cost-benefit ratio is extremely negatively skewed. Why shall one spend nearly INR 1.5 million just to drive in a city? Further, the manufacturers are busy recovering their costs and the burden of carbon reduction is laid on the consumer. If carbon reduction is so very important, the manufacturers must make EVs available at a cheaper price than cars with ICE.
Almost zero charging infrastructure is the main reason IMO.
It will take minimum 25 years to switch over to EVs completely so that the technicians , mechanics are properly trained , we have proper charging infrastructure.
By the time the conventional fuel cars can be phased out gradually. But enforcing EVs forcefully by the next 10 years will create a terrible mess.
EV’s are being forced on us .. when CNG was around 40 . The running cost was around 1re . Now with the launch of so called EV’s.. CNG price has been increased as well as the car prices….
I just want everyone to just delay their purchase for any vehicle… for 2-3 yrs .
For now It doesn't make any sense for a common public .
*Electricity companies should DIRECTLY install EV charging points* ... whenever a customer applies for a charging point... so that CUSTOMERS don't have to get Association's APPROVAL.
The main reason why Indians are not buying EVs is that they are intelligent and a government that allots 11k crore of tax payer money to subsidize EVs is very unintelligent.
Lugging around a 200 to 300 kg battery for the life of a vehicle is simply wasteful.
EVs are overpriced and prone to battery fires. EVs cannot be charged easily. EVs are prone to HV critical errors especially if they are made by the largest EV manufacturer in India. Now why would anyone buy an expensive, unreliable vehicle when there are much better alternatives easily available?
I own both an EV and petrol hybrid and EVs are fantastic. 99% of my trips are done with it. The charging network is improving by the day and it’s the primary vehicle within 100 km radius. The tech is dramatically improving by the day and I would rather replace the battery pack than sell n get a new car because it is that good.
pros.. 1,running costs 2. Engine performance cons.. 1. Infra and public charging is very poor 2. The headache in getting charging stations at home costs approx 70 k as one time costs and 2 months of multiple follow ups even with TATA power supply and private parking..TATA has poor support as they rely on vendors who are quite useless.Only very senior escalation worked 3. Claim of 450 kms vs actual of 270 to 300 kms max…this is not acceptable. However the running experience in city is quite good.
Problem with EV is that you cannot do intercity travels. You need a highway range of at least 500 to 600 kms, with multiple charging stations on hoghways.
Right now it is strictly city based vehicle. But there is little incentive to go EV for consumers.
I am happy with my petrol car. I dont have to worry about long distance+ no charging issue wherever I go + I will continue using it for few more years. Before going for another petrol car 😂😂😂

EV skeptics need to note the EV 2-wheeler market is booming across India, so please don't rule out for the 4-wheelers to catch up. The EV market is currently where the mobile phones were in early 2000s when landlines and pagers were flourishing!
Only one answer or reason for not buying ev cars is lack of charging infra ... Going far away from city like Mumbai feels risky, Especially travelling to Goa through Konkan
Super happy with my MG ZS Ev for last 18 months... can't drive ice anymore
Instead of jumping directly into EV, these companies must try for an economical hybrid version to attract customers. For an IC engine the most fuel consming are in the first 2 gears(1st gear and 2nd gear). If a support through EV motor is given to these gears (upto 3rd gear)then the mileage could be increased by over 40%. So a vehicle which is giving 20 km/ltr can give more than 30 km/ltr mileage. The present hybrids available in markets are costing the same as EVs so people won't prefer that too.
I have a ev and it's great. In India the problem is that everyone wants cheap things. If you have running and a proper house with charger then just go for it it's great.
EV=Headache is suitable only for Senior Citizen who have lot of time, money and concerned about environment
>>No Charging Stations, no Infra
>>In Single charge You cannot move even entire day in City
>>Long Trip not possible in EV
>>Daily Charging Vs Weekly Petrol refill
>>After so much of Headache and pain, Cost of EV is very High as compared to Petrol
80% Indian electricity generation is by burning coal 😂
maruthi 800 became the trend setting car in India when the middle class people started buying it. so there should be a trend setting ev car that needs to be released so that even middle class people will buy it and follow the ev trend in India
If Toyota couldn't commodify EVs and make them profitable, other car manufacturers stand no chance. The Chinese EVs flooding some parts of the global market are heavily subsidised by the Chinese government, and unless governments across the globe subsidise the EVs and electricity, EV adoption is economically infeasible.
All countries have confirmed that electric vehicles have more problems than ICE engines worldwide. More than 60-70% of vehicles are having problems worldwide. Our govt are not looking into these issues and trying to push EV vehicles without any solutions for the EV issues.
Range, on road charging facility, longer charging time in comparison with refueling time of petrol/ disel cars, charging facility for individual car owners in Co-operative societies, water accumulation on road during monsoon in India, excessive price tag, incidents of EV catches fire on road or during charging are the main factors, which forced me to buy a new car fitted with petrol engine at the beginning of 2024 with high price tag ( mainly due to different state and central taxes, high insurance fees..etc) Mr. Gadkari's decision or statement about EV/ Hydrogen cars will be limited to Political people, rich and super rich citizens . Not possible for a retired person with limited savings.
I have worked in the luxury car industry for a decade... Only the rich buy EV like BMW etc costing over 1.5 cr... Their drivers duty is to charge the cars for usage between home and office which is less than 10 kms... Can we middle class stop on a secluded highway with family to charge a car for 2 hrs??? Its too risky as there is no safety... Pls think about this if youll like to take your families on a road trip far over 200 kms...
Government should first produce CLEAN ELECTRICITY and then think about introducing EVs with properly planned Infrastructure. Otherwise Evs are absurd in present scenario.
Only solution is strong hybrid before we move to 100% ev. So government should do something for hybrids until infrastructure is created for EV
Main reason is no dedicated parking spaces where chargers can be installed. Cars are a status symbol which needs to be shown off not parked in your garage outside of public view. Another is lack of resale market. Most buyers flip cars in the 4th to 5th year. But there is no such second market to flip EV.
❤❤My meternal uncles mahindra E2O is still running smoothly clocking daily odd 90 km easily even today... ( 8 years old car)
He is a pharmacist by profession... & run a pharmacy shops...
They are just shoving electric vehicles down the consumers throats at this point
Unless EVs cost less than the ex showroom cost of the base model of Alto, don't expect many Indians even considering one. Mark My Words.
Simplest solution is range extender
My bmw i3 Rex sports has a petrol generator which kicks in if battery goes 6%
I don’t understand why car manufacturers discontinued it
Also too many charging apps
They should be forced to allow use of any card on any machine
1) Upfront cost of EV is hogher than a ICE counterpart
2) Daily maintenance of EV is less than ICE only with home charging. In India very few have a proper parking lot where they can install chargers. Charging from public chargers is as costly as petrol and is a big time waste.
3) The ICE car works for 15 to 25 years. There is no guarantee about performance of EV after 5 to 8 years. No idea about what will be the deterioration of battery and how much it will cost to replace it
The existing EV technology is for low population density countries where there is ample space for private parking and public charging. India will need a different technology to replace the ICE engine.
Govt don't want people to buy EV, as it could kill its petrol and ethanol business.
Very poor roads, very high taxes ….
Itne reasons kaafi hai for low sales, do not overanalyse ! 😅
Common sense most stay in buildings not in bunglows to charge their cars.
Goverment should give guarantee that the company will repair any major faults within 24 hours or return th full amount.
Gov should take a charging cess and build ev charging infra...that how Ev infrastructure could improve
If fossil fuels are charging EVs how will it reduce CO2 emissions ?
Tata denying warranty due to underbody scratches in battery shell protection cases is very bad and lots of customers are suffering.
The bad thing is that these battery protection cases capabilities should be disclaimed by manufacturers.
These ads showing it can travel in tough terrains etc.. While in real life it isnt working to its perfection
They should have launched Series Hybrid vehicles, which could have saved so much fuel... For Series hybrid, we don't need a charging infra. Such idiotic decisions by Govt. Elon Musk has fooled the world.
Apart from range concerns and lack of charging infra, the biggest problem with EVs is that it has low resale value like phones. Your 15 lakh worth EV SUV will fetch you only 7 to 8 lakh if you are selling it after 2 years. Also not many buyers out there.
Don't worry, with stricter norms ICE cars will also depreciate fast.
If EV will be Tax Free then it shows the Government is concern about World Environment not Economy 😅
Ultimately environment is big issue but ..................,....
1. There is absolutely no push from government on EV passenger vehicles as of 2024.
2. The price of EVs is still unjustifiable specially after government removed all kinds of benefits from EV via the new PM e-drive policy.
3. Charging infrastructure is a non-issue in metro cities. Public charging is good. Most apartments have electric chargers now.
4. Battery on rental by MG is not practical from any angle.
Tata is not interested in.helping their EV Customers They are not interested in improving the DC CHARGING Infrastructure
Many of us knew this before the government preferred evs. Go hybrid first.
I do long drives often and no car can give that range.
EV vehicles gets charged from coal powered thermal power plant produced electric current, resulting in merely shifting the source of pollution.
Range anxiety can be eliminated by making EVs like electric locomotives ie powered by live power in the road itself, and not carry the batteries' dead weight in the body of the car.
There should only be a road usage fee that includes the power consumed. Solar farms on either sides of the road can keep the lines available powering the electric motor continuously, and not going dead ever.
Because
First petrol
Second diesel
Third lpg
Fourth cng
Now electric
Is it a joke
