This seems to work great. Thanks for sharing all the techy stuff id be lost otherwise. Have a great day from England. :) I'll recommend this to my parents, they live in a 4 story house so this could work great for them. :)
It works for exactly 1 year. Once the year and warranty is over, it stops working with no support. $1100.00+ down the drain. This mesh system truly is the worse i have ever had the pain of dealing with
I can’t believe I’ve only just stumbled on you. Your comparison test matches my case, so your advice is appreciated, just got to find some cash for the routers. I’m now subscribed.👍
I enjoyed both your review and your presentation. I would have like to see where you placed your satellites relative to your router. Perhaps a simple sketch of your home and yard. Again, very informative video.
looks like you can try various placements around the home and use the app to check the signal strength for the devices close by. very handy for getting the placement just right.
I’ve never given it much thought other than checking that it’s connected via the app map. If the connection drops from time to time that is when I will change the location. Every house will be different also.
Great vid . I have a large house however . We run a full wifi house . Can you do a vid on a fully loaded network. Aka 4 google homes 2 iPads smart tv all running . Looks great just wondering if it would do
That’s what was running on my test in the video to be fair. My son was also playing fortnite at the time and my daughter was on her tablet. That was why my speed was a little down than when it’s not being hammered by all the gadgets in my house. The list you see in the app a little later on in the video should give you an idea.
I find your terminology confusing. Home routers work on 2.4 GHz (GHz is the abbreviation for Gigahertz) and 5GHz (and others). By calling WiFi "2G" and "5G" adds to the confusion since "G" is used by mobile phone industry to mean "Generation". Thus the new 5G mobile networks are the "5th Generation" and in that context 5G is not referring to the 5GHz spectrum. WiFi and mobile phone networks are obviously two entirely different technologies.
Yes you are correct. Tbf to me I’m not talking about cell phones thou. It’s a home WiFi set up so I ask your forgiveness this time and I’ll try harder in the future.
Great review. I’ve always wanted to see the mesh Wifi given a review by you Stu. I will be looking at this with a view to purchase because of this video.
Thanks, Stu - I've just had to purchase a new "main" router from Ebay when the yellow ethernet port pooped out. I should have new component in a couple days. How will this password work? Anyone? help appreciated.
I wish it was that simple. I've had to get on support with cable to set up the router, then with netgear's poor support to try to optimize my speeds through satellite. It requires patience and support. Note: Netgear only offers free support for a short time, then they'll try to sell you 6 months of support or more. I have a friends who says his worked just fine with first time hook up, but that has not been my experience and I've been in Information Technology for over 20 years.
What Virgin Media package were you on? We've recently got the 500Mbps package - On the built in Xbox speed test managed to get 650Mbps (In reality you get about 350Mbps - 400 Mbps for game downloads). I got that by connecting the satellite wired to the Xbox, and the satellite was wirelessly connected back to the main unit - Pretty impressive! The kit I got was an RBK353 WiFi6 in the end
Not very informative, still none the wiser. It would have been a lot more helpful if it was shown how to set it up. I E does it do away with the current router (my case sky Q) also what is the range for putting one in a shed or the like. Then there is the issue of setting up all the devises, changing from what is already connected to current router?. This sort of info seems to be lacking when looking at these sort of items on Amazon for example.
This is a great product, but almost everything you are saying is wrong. It is a router with two mesh access points. It is WiFi 6, not 5G. I couldn’t watch any further.
i have orbi wifi. i use an ethernet cable and i still get around 30-40 ping, 15 mbps download and about 1 1.5 upload speed. This makes it difficult for gaming, downloading things, and does not allow me to stream
Hello, Would you be able to come out the main router into a switch say in the loft and have Ethernet outlets throughout the house back to the switch? Aswell as the 2 satellites?
You can. I did. Exactly that. Cat6 Ethernet cables through walls from a 8 port POE managed switch in my loft. Works like a charm….. although we are in Scotland, and my max speed is only 30!! 🤪 But at least I get 30 everywhere now - wired or wifi. Only problem I had was working out I needed to keep the old sky router as a modem, disabling the Wi-fi on it (Stu had interesting idea to keep 2.4 enabled- I didn’t do that), so I could use the ISP broadband connection. I also disabled the sky router dhcp allocation, but hit problems and had to re enable. Anyway. It just works 👍🏻🏴
It will only help you deliver 1.5 mbps (or as close to it as possible) in every corner of your house. That should be a crime that you have that speed in 2020 🤜🏻
I’m seriously considering upgrading to this system. Do both Satellites have to connect to the router? Or can you connect a Satellite to another Satellite? I see from the diagram you can, but how effective is it?
Completely. I’ve installed this system in my parents house. It’s got old thick walls. They all connect to each other with a single connection like a chain. Netgear are good as are other companies products too. I have the taotronics Ac3000 and it’s sadly no longer available but it actually performs better if I’m honest. My point is that you don’t have to break the bank as netgear can be expensive.
You can buy what ever you require. I had 2 satellites to begin with but I now have the Orbi voice too so I have a mesh network comprising the router plus 3 satellites one of which is the Orbi voice. I originally tested the model which had only the one satellite which worked equally well.
I haven't used the rbk50 but in paper it suffice. It really depends on your home. If you have old thick walls I would plump for more satellites like the rbk23 as that would give you more chance of a full speed WiFi network in your home. A modern home with thinner walls would not need the extra satalites. I hope that helps.
You can do that yes but what I did was keep a 2.4ghz only network on my virgin router so if the Orbi ever loses connection I always have a back up network to fall back on. It’s also really handy for connecting smart plugs to as they only use the 2.4 ghz spectrum and I also connect Alexa to them too.
Hi, thanks for your review. I have a question that you might be able to answer. I saw that you have a NAS server, do you know if we can connect it to the satellite router and still working? Thanks in advance

The Nas will still be connected anyway. Your network can be extended in theory as least as far as you want it. You just have to add more satalites. The furthest away satalite is just as fast as the main router and anything connected to the main router can be accessed by the satalite furthest away from the main router.
@@StuTech Thanks a lot for your reply. Then I think I will get this system, I don't need the two satellites for sure, but one will be to move the NAS to a place where the HD will not be bugging me and my partner (this last one is important :P )

So if you increase your Virgin package to the top package which is 500mbps you would achieve that speed pretty much all around your house. You wouldn’t get the usually drop off in speed that a sole router would get. In theory anyway. My experience is shown in the video.
