Hi, Wow I think this is the most complicated repair you've done since you started these RUclips videos. Plus, all that work to re-seat a pulley string. Best wishes and stay safe. Tom
This and the Canon A1 mirror box removal... The disadvantage of this one is that it is not a ribbon but a bunch of wires... I have none of these cameras but I also love to see people fixing them.
Hi I noted that my om has a clear plastic disc over the asa dial wiper and a small metal washer on top of the potentiometer you did not have. Also i have another washer on the rewind knob. Some cameras may have them others may have lost them
I am subscribed to your channel and have been for some time. My cloth curtain on my Olympus OM 2S Program has come undone. Can I follow this video to the point where you reposition the chord on to the pulley and then re-attach the curtain to the one side where it has detached? What would you use to re-attach the cloth curtain to the one side? I checked your video inventory and could not locate a video to address my issue. If you do have one, please let me know. I appreciate any guidance you may have. Thanks.
Ive just purchased an OM-2N and may need some help.. Fitted new batteries of course. The shutter hangs up in auto mode only. Only returns when switched to manual. Switching to check/reset does not reset the shutter. I've tried opening the back and shining light directly at the blue silicon light sensors - Made no difference. Mirror stays hung up. Any tips?
Hi! I wondered if yku are able to help. I have an olympus superzoom 160 and have broken the catch. I wondered if you know if it was possible to change the door? Thanks
This is fantastic. I’m just reassembling my OM2n after fixing a winding problem (it was a loose rewind cam blocking everything). I have a question: how do you correctly align the ASA/compensation dial on the top plate with the internal knob?
The knob will typically self align as the ASA dial is rotated. The slot and the spring loaded finger once engaged will seat. Check for proper engagement by rotating the ASA dial both directions while pointing the camera at a light source. Watch for corresponding needle movement.
Hi, can you make a video about the Prontor 500 LK shutter self timer jam? Seems the self timers are problematic in a lot of vintage cameras with separate shutters.
That foam around the prism isn't actually necessary. Olympus put it there because they thought light might leak into the prism from the flash shoe connector but it's not a problem and they stopped using it on later versions. That foam does degrade over time and becomes a sticky goo that destroys the silvering on the prism. An OM10 is a cheap parts camera if you end up needing a new prism, otherwise you just remove the foam and live with the slight damage. It just affects the view finder, image quality is fine.
@@FreakTimmah Thanks for the comments. Good information to pass along. It has long been a mystery as to why the foam around the prism. Speculation from dust seal to sound dampening... but your explanation seems the most likely.
Thank you very much for your offer of patronage. However Patreon maybe does not fit well for Fix Old Cameras and has not been pursued. Hello from Mongolia. Great video as always. I got issue with my Konica Autoreflex TC which is fires automatically after cranking the lever. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you
Hello to you Mongolia. You are welcome and thank you for your interest in FOC. It sounds as if maybe you mirror latch lever is stuck or sluggish. Try gently holding the mirror down has you wind the camera. If the camera does not fire at this point... once wound release the mirror. If it pops up and releases the camera then it is an issue with the mirror latching.
The front cover plate under mirror can be easier unscrewed after you remove prism and focussing screen. The screwdriver wouldn't be under such bad angle.
Hi there! I've been referred to you by my local camera shop. I've got an old Olympus OM2N that has been very solid and reliable for the two or so years thast I've owned it but suddenly light meter has stopped working. The batteries are fresh and when I push the dial to check the red light comes on showing that it is getting power. I don't think the needle is stuck because it worked one day then not the next plus when I give it a bump on the side while looking through I think I can see it move. I have pulled off the top and bottom cover and cleaned everything that looked a little dirty (nothing was too bad). All wired look solidly soldered. Do you have any suggestions? Cheers mate!

Oh look. Someone was shooting a roll of Kodacolor 400. Remove the rewind knob? Hey WAIT! There's a roll of.... oh..... whew! :vD Have you worked on &/or made a video featuring an M645 that won't advance? My 1000s seems to have that issue. Have to switch the little selector knob to multi to advance it. The battery is fresh & the rollers in the film insert are in good shape. Not sure what's going on.
Your comments on the film box top bring a smile and a chuckle. On the M645... maybe check the battery for a full 6 volts... if it is below 5.8 volts it can cause release issues.
Hi, have you re-soldered the orange coloured cable that controls the mirror lock up on an OM10, what a nightmare of a job. Luv yer work, oh you forgot the two screws holdling down the inner trim on the flash socket, don't yer just hate know alls. :O)

Easy to list what does not apply to the OM-1. No ceramic circuit under the mirror box, instead a slow speed escapement and fewer wires to disconnect from the meter circuitry.
Yes, they usually have three horizontal slots and one vertical slot configured on the plate spring of the plate. The slots slip under the heads of the film door pressure plate posts.
Hi! I have a problem with my Olympus OM 1. Is there any way that I can explain the problem via email or so? Then I can also send you a video of the problem. The problem, in short, is that my curtain won't shut all the way, due to that the mirror also stays up.
Check to see if the mirror functions in the bulb setting. It is a mechanical over ride. If it does then check battery output and for possible nearly invisible corrosion on the battery lid.
@@samski255 oops, you are obviously correct... As a result of careless reading, the comments were in reference to the camera that was featured in the video, not the one you mentioned in your comment.
Is the mirror staying up on advance with the curtain in question not cocking completely? Or is the mirror staying up on release with the curtains not traveling completely, therefore not trigger the mirror to drop? Is it the first or second curtain in question? Or is it both?
@@FixOldCameras the last one! The mirror is fully up but the curtain hasn't shut all the way. Therefore also not triggering the mirror to go down. I cleaned the curtain track as well. I think the mechanism is rusted a little bit. But i don't know where to find it in the camera.

Remove it and do not replace it. Experience shows no ill effects.
