- Grinkle Ironstone Mine At its peak, in 1914 there were 479 people employed at Grinkle Mine (365 working below ground and 114 on the surface). The mine closed in June 1934.
WARNING.
If you visit places like this always let someone know where you are going, how long you are going to be and take the right equipment.
You showed very clearly how dangerous it is to explore places like this - poor air conditions, deep and very sticky mud and a lack of a plan of the workings which can be obtained. You should have worn a safety helmet and carried either a gas meter or safety lamp. This is why the main entrance was locked by the landowner, Cleveland Potash Ltd as it used to be, to keep out the unwary.
The site has been excavated by Cleveland Mining Heritage Society with permission of CPL. The features exposed were 4 boiler sites and a hauling engine with parts of a workshop.

Yes i agree very dangerous stuff. If the entrance way/air shaft hadn't have been open I wouldn't have gone in. If anyone ever wants to show me around the correct way I would be up for that
@@NicksExploration CMHS is not going underground at present because of the current pandemic but contact me towards the end of the year when it may be safe to arrange a visit.

Hi that's Ravenscar chain home low radar station.
I am part of the society that help to preserve this site. And displaying the entrances and structures locations is extremely bad publicity for vandals. You also are putting your own lives at risk going down this mine without oxygen meters and a plan of the workings. Stay out amd stay safe. This video really doesnt help the preservation of the site.
People will not know where the entrance is from my video. If people want to find out where anything is they can just look online. It's all there for people to find. I don't think vandals will go down there as it's out of the way. Great job by the way

@@NicksExploration even the distance you went is enough to contain enough carbon dioxide to kill any person entering the area I lived in the area all my life and we all know to keep out however I am looking to dig out the old blast furnace of Skinningrove works
It was checked the day before to make sure there was no gases but I understand where you are coming from. You would never even know or smell them. Just drop and that would be the end of it. I did have a look further up towards the active mine on the surface and spotted an old winch building? Maybe what your talking about?
