  • Another lost journey along The Golden Line. This time from Sandsend to Kettleness through the Deepgrove and Kettleness tunnels. The last time this journey was made was on Saturday, 3rd May,1958.

      You need to get your head out of your arse. This line closed on 5th May 1958, long before Beeching came along in 1961.

      @@jeffallinson8089 no, I'm not. The line was undef threat since the grouping of 1923. Annual passenger numbers on the line had fallen year on year since 1923 and the LNER was considering closing the line. By the 1950s you could get a United bus every 30 minutes from places like Ssndsend, but had to wait hours if you missed one of the right or so trains that BR ran each say. The line generated little or no freight.

      Beeching was innocent in this case as the line closed in 1958, when the 'good' Doctor was still with ICI.
