MASERATI GranTurismo Major Service is $2,000, SO WE DID IT OURSELVES!!!

- This video is a How To Do It Yourself Major Service on a 2014 Maserati Granturismo. By DIY servicing your car, you can easily save over $2,000 compared to taking the car in to the dealership. The major service needs to be performed every 25,000 miles and the minor service at every 12,500 miles.
The major service includes oil and oil filter change, coolant change, air filter change, pollen filter change, brake fluid flush, replace both belts, and changing the power steering fluid. We ran out of time and were not able to change the power steering fluid or pollen filter but I will show that in another video.
Most of the parts you will need to do a DIY major service can be purchased at Ricambi America (www.ricambiame...) or on Amazon. Links are below.

Wonderful video, a real service, thank you so much there is so little Maserati content that is useful
You're welcome! I'm trying to add to my brands and venture out from just Ferrari stuff. I figure the Mas people need some love too.
@@normalguysupercar well I have a 2012 GT MC if you need any other test cases let me know... all to happy to help.
@@salsared1943 if you're in the area I'm down.
@@normalguysupercar how can we PM?
@@salsared1943 email me. dan@normalguysupercar.com
More GranTurismo content please!
Ok. I'll see what I can do.
@@normalguysupercar Is it safe to raise the entire 2011 Quattroporte front end by a front subframe crossmember? And the entire rear end by the rear differential housing? Their chassis look similar. I’m going to remove that undertray and investigate
I love the video. It makes me want to go spend hours prettying up my Maserati's engine bay because she deserves to be cleaned and babied like that. All I need now is a Maserati.
Wow, judging by the response, it appears that the Masi viewers needed some love.
They are thirsty. LOL!
Amazing video Dan. Thank you so much for this! Mine did the same thing with the low oil after the service. We Maserati guys needed this video in a major way!
Yeah just like the Ferrari there just aren't many videos on our cars getting services.
As other Maserati owners have said...Thanks! More please! I have 4700 miles on my Levante GranLusso and am now thinking I can do most of the scheduled maintenance. Oh, and time will definitely get me before miles, as you noted is likely with most owners.
Yup time seems to be the more common limit.
Great video, inspires confidence in that you can actually do some work on these cars. Makes ownership so much more enjoyable.
Indeed
Dan, I have the same car and every time I work on it, I can't help but be reminded how much easier things were to take apart in my old WRX...
Well, there's always something else that's easier... :)
That exhaust sound is just pure ear-gasm
Agreed.
Nice work. You've definitely have a heart of gold to help other car lovers. Thanks for sharing.
It's great to be able to help out friends. Plus it's fun!
Just who owns a Maser knows how good these cars are
Hopefully someone will chime in
Thanks for the videos! I use this one as a reference. FYI coming from the drift world you can def jack up a Quattroporte from the front center subframe to lift the entire front end. Yours looks similar. Albeit I went a little offset to the side near the boxed portion of the lower A-arm. For some reason the Maserati subframe seems a bit skinny weakish (compared to a G35/350 or BMW even). You can also raise it up by the rear diff. Don’t be scurred
Just remove the smaller plastic shield near the oil filter and you can see it better
One way to help stop the drip from the filter is to use gel coated paper mixing cups for fiberglass repair or a super large slurpee paper cup. You cut a section out of the cup and place it around the filter. It becomes a inexpensive disposal funnel (gel coated resin cups are 1.50 @ or Dan through some large slurpees down LOL
Watching this on my iPad, stretched out on the sofa, with a glass of wine. 👍🏻
Hell yeah! Doing it right!
You are a freakin genius cutting that air intake clamp and removing the cover risking bolts and metal fragments going down that funnel you have still attached to fill your oil. If you dont want that motor or car, I'll take care of it. Lol
Ok
This video convinced me to buy one
They are pretty badass
Same I got this as my first car and it’s great
Ditto 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Same in about another 3-4 months.
Manny Garcia which one did you get??
definitely enjoy it. great take and focus
Awesome job mate! Nothing like wrenching on a car you love! Glad you said to bleed the brakes from farthest wheel away first (back passenger side), then work your way to the next. This assures all of the old fluid gets cleared out ::Thumbs Up:: P.S. I love my 2014 GT-S too!
Thank you! I just love working on cars but it's even more fun on cool cars. 😎
Great instructional video. Well 👍
Thanks 👍
thanks for posting this video, I have a 2008 Maserati GT and you're right it's about 3500 for the major service and 2k for minor service.
How much just parts
@@eddiedaugherty7063 depending where u are, if you dont need any of the tools, $400 -$650.
It seems like these cars are tricky to work on but not necessarily any worse than any comparable sports car. Longitudinal engine + long hood is a plus too. I’d imagine a lot of jobs on these motors are much easier than working on a transverse motor where everything is either in the wheel well or in the firewall.
Great video, you taught me a lot about my Maserati Quattroportte...excellent job gentlemen 🚘🚘🚘
Thanks!
Awesome work and great vid.....just had the same thing done today on my 2012 GT....I dont have the tools or the patience so I had the dealer do it but it's great to understand how its done, not just an RO bill at the end....worth it in my opinion on these beautiful cars...well done!👍🥃
Thank you
excellent and helpful video. Yes, very irritating removing those air dams to get to the radiator petcock. Used to be an easy job.
It was
Really good that you can do the work yourself. Good luck selling it on.....”what’s the service history like please “.......”oh I did it myself “.
If you have the parts receipts it would be ok in my opinion, if it was a challenge stradale or an 812 superfast probably a different story. Remember they are only a $50k car. Factory schedule is every 12 months so more frequent oil changes that you can verify with the owner would be a positive
awesome stuff Dan, you made Tim famous! he's gonna have groupies at the next cars and coffee. He has already had requests for Ghibli and you could probably do the QP one day
Haha yup! Tim's a badass. :)
Another fantastic video. i’m going to save me so much money with your servicing videos. Thanks for all the effort you put in. Any chance of that interior air filter and power steering fluid change video? That’s one I can’t seem to find anywhere on RUclips!
when i get older i want friends like this...like hey Carl wanna film my Maserati..they be like yea omar on my way pulling up in another Maserati #Goals
Hell yeah! It's great to have a group of like minded gear head friends
@@normalguysupercar yes indeed !!!
Man i was laughing...im trying to get one...this video is gold guys thabks

Excellent Video, I normally do my own maintenance as well.....only difference is that I clean every single plastic panel!!! I hate when they get dusty like that!!!!
Nice.
In 1986 I saw Dallas Cowboys v Chicago at Cowboys home ground on a visit to USAF bases when I was in the Royal Air Force.
That's badass
Great video, thanks for showing us owners how to save a ton of $$$$$$$$
Loving the wrench turning vids!!
Good! I'm gonna try to get a lot of those out. :)
Oh man, I wish you had called me over to play on this! Would have been fun and Tim is a blast!
Well, now I know and I'll have to ping you for the next project. :)
This makes me want to work on my car!
Go for it! :)
WOW SUCH AN AWESOME VIDEO, DEF INSPIRES EVERYONE TO DIY
Thanks!
Great job fellas.
Thank you
Awesome! Thanks again for helping and creating this video!
No problem man! It was really fun! Damn I love the sound of your car. We'll have to do more DIY stuff on it. :)
Hells yeah! Your camera caught the sound better than any other vid I’ve seen. 😀
I've gone through sooooo many mic's to finally learn how to get cars to sound good. They are a serious pain in the ass to get sounding even close to what they are in person.
If you take a breaker bar to the tensioner, you can do one person no problem, just did it myself in about 10 minutes :)
Oh nice
that's a great video guys. im hopfully getting one next year
Nice!
Outstanding job guys...looking forward to the other stuff!!
Thank you.
Really enjoyed that Dan, I considered buying one of these before my M3 , looks and sounds immense !! but what a finicky car to work on, the ergonomics are all over the place in that engine bay, taking the oil filter off horizontally and dripping oil all over the cross member , that would drive me mad, then the lack of spring loaded tensioner on that front set of pulleys , but some sort of block wedge device , arggggghhhhh , I would seriously go into a Matt Moreman style rant on that one . Cannot wait for part 2 . 👍👍👏👏
Haha it's Italian. She's quirky. 😂
Don't worry there are enough cheap plastic parts to break and connecting rods in every M3s future. All cars are a bitch to fix one way or another.
Awesome color, lovely Maserati =)
Indeed!
Awsome work guys ! I so would love to buy 2014 Maserati granturismo MC
You should! That are great cars and sound amazing
Omg lol I was wondering about the maintainence but nvm now lol
Great video, I've always done my own maintenance, now that im looking to get one of these, id like to make sure the Italians are a little friendlier when it comea to placing certain parts in certain areas unlike bmw, Mercedes, and Audi, either way ill be getting an super long extended used car warranty.
Indeed
Nice job! Love the Gran Turismo!
Thanks

Hahah! Thanks! The channel's growing... but it's a little slow cause I'm not out there doing burnouts and doughnuts and getting arrested.

I made small wood ramps that I used before my steel ramps to get enough clearance.

Nice video!!! You should definitely note a power increase with the k&n swap.
Possibly a little more power.
fantastic vids man

Any power steering fluid videos coming? Life saver videos so far. Thanks!

I love Maseratis and my dad’s trying to get me a GranTurismo, idk what year lol, but a lot of people are telling me that Maseratis suck... or that it’s a shitty car but idc, I know what I like, and I for one love this car.
I think they are pretty awesome cars. They can be fickle but all Italian cars are.
geez those jack points really make some torsion noises through the body...geez masserati and bugatti have a great motor history
Haha yup
@@normalguysupercar give me a 35-b anyday against these ugly ducklings

Must be nice to have a warm garage in February..
It was very pleasant. But just wait until August.
Top video - !!!!!!!! Love your style !! am I the only guy that does 10,000k oil changes ?
I'm sure some others do. It's more common to do high mileage changes with modern synthetic fluid.
Hermoso carro. fantastico sonido. no me importaria que es algo pesado. no es precisamente para hacer carreras
It's interesting to see non professionals work on these sophisticated cars. To see how they solve problems, what they run into...very useful for the rest of us. Do you think you guys will attempt a clutch change? That's a real challenge without a floor lift, I'd imagine. Especially those cars with torque tubes and rear-mid engine formats.
No clutch if you don[t get an older Maserati 4200 or a Granturismo with MC shift (F1 transmission style.). The ZF automatic transmission is on the majority of Maserati Granturismo cars. I have had both models and the 4200 is expensive to maintain. I kept my 2008 Granturismo; currently have 52K miles on it. The 4200 got too needy with only 39K miles when I traded it for the Granturismo; I got $10K for the trade in.
@@mwarren8748 Isn't the ZF a torque converter style automatic? I think they make DCTs as well as Getrag? If so, yeah...no clutch to change. My Z06 will be an expensive PITA to do. Especially replacing all the plastic stuff, rebuild the TTube as well as swap out the FP and PrgCanistr.
@@Sandy-oy2lr Yes torque converter style. The ZF 6HP26 transmission was used in lots of high end cars including Aston Martin DB9, DBS etc. I almost went to the Aston's after my 4200. Maserati dealer practically begged me to stay with the brand with the Granturismo. I have taken some of the Astons for test drives; going to get one with a V12 for sure. I miss my V12 days; last on was in a Mercedes SL600 I owned.
much rather do a water pump on this motor then the northstars lol
True! It was right there once the air box was off.
My 2016 GT was telling me the 2 yr warranty (25k miles) is due when I was into my lease for a year and half and had less than 12500 miles. Apparently, it's either two years or 25k miles, whichever comes first. So if the car has been sitting on the lot for a long time, the new owner may hit the 2 year service way sooner depending on how long the car was sitting on the lot. The dealer decided to the full 12k service and partial items (whatever looked bad) from the 25k service list and made a note on the car's service maintenance log. It cost me about $900. I know for sure the timing belt was left out for the next round....
Yeah, it's a miles OR time thing. I'm guessing most owners probably hit the time limits rather than the mileage.
superbe vidéo intérréssante , tout est bien expliqué , merci
You're most welcome. :)
Great video!
You should put a small hose on the oil filter drain so the oil doesn't get everywhere.
Yes
Damn this is a great video, I’m changing job requiring a back to taking the train predicament 😤 but also means I now only need a weekend car 🚗 😀 guess what that means 👍👍👍
😁👍
I wondered with that Ferrari engine in it you needed to pull the engine just for basic issues
Super video! It would be great if you could do some 4200 engines as well.
Thanks
Great video, looks like you guys are here in Austin. Would love to meet at some point, im just north of the Arboretum.
Awesome vid
Thank you
That was great I want one.
Heck yeah!
Saved $2700. Doing the work yourself.👍🏻
Yup
Can’t wait for more : )
Cool
Nice video. I have maserati Ghibli 2015. Air condiction blowing hot air, what you think? Thx
I called Maserati in Tyson's corner and they quoted me 3,500 for a damn 20k maintenance!
Geeze
I did a flush on my 1979 Lincoln on the power steering and brake flush for under twenty bucks and that's a 4700 pound car. Out of taking it into Ford or any other place to get it done they would have charged me a good $300
And you know you did it right too!
@@normalguysupercar yes and I haven't had a problem yet
Im about to do the same job on my buddies 08 qp
Nice! It's not too difficult.
Great video guys! What was the scan tool brand and model you used to reset the computer? Grazie!
OBDSTAR X200 pro.
@@jaycvu THANKS!
The bottom Engine tray on my GranCabrio (Convertible) takes different bolts: 10, 13, and 15 mm.
That's fun. Lol
Awesome video!!!
Thanks
Great video. Now I know why it costs so much to have a car like that one to be serviced at a shop. Give me a 60’s car to do maintenance on. I always hate it when there is one bolt that won’t let you undo or you get all done and you have extra parts laying around. The neighbors don’t mind you revving your engine?
Generally we won't rev but it was mid-afternoon when we started.
Haha always wanted to see what was under that plastic panel in the engine bay thanks
No problem
Great video. Wouldn’t it be an idea to have started the car before bolting the covers back on to check for leaks ?
We could have but we were fairly confident it wasn't going to leak.
this maserati is the only car other than ferraris or cobras, i care anything about!
All of those are good cars to care about. 😁
Put 2x4’s in front of the wheels and drive up on those. Then the jack fits under.
Yeah
New Channel Normal guy Supercar Garage lol. good video...
Thanks! :)
I'm guessing copper ease would be useful on those bolts. I'm watching this as for some reason I'm considering a GT as I can't afford a 458 😕
What about a video on how to tighten the chassis bolts on an Alfa Romeo 4C? Because the carbon fiber chassis, the bolts need to be tightened every couple of years at a cost of $1200 to $1300.
That's insane
At 5:00 he talks about there are two different types of oil filters and then you can't hear exactly what he says but sounds like if you get the wrong type, throws your engine out. Any idea what he is saying? Outstanding video
They changed the engine and therefore the oil filter so you have to get the right filter for the right engine.
@@normalguysupercar So it was just about there is the 4.2 and 4.7 engine and get the right filter based on which you have then.
@@PaulBCISSP correct
Hi, I see everything you used except for the power steering fluid, could you please add a link to the power steering fluid you bought.
We didn't change that yet.
Hope he use distilled water not just tap water to dilute coolant
I clearly mentioned that I used RODI water which is 0 TDS just like distilled.
Thank you
You're welcome
On my coupe gt there is a tiny bleeder screw to bleed the air out of the coolant system. You do it with the engine running and the water pump on.
Oh interesting. Good to know
Great job! How many hours did that service take so far?
We spent about 6 hours on it, but we were taking our time, setting up the camera, drinking beer, having food, etc...
The sound when letting the car down onto the jack stands...scary sound at first.
They always make fun sounds. LOL!
I seem to remember something about the oil in KN filters possibly messing up the MAF sensor
I think the oil can coat the MAF and cause issues.
You just need to ensure that the filter is properly oiled, but not over-oiled.
