Urutu makes a kick butt X-pipe resonator delete kit for the Maserati Granturismo and sent me one to install in Richard's GT MC. The installation is pretty straight forward but does take a bit of muscle to get the old resonator out. Plan on using a rubber mallet and some elbow grease to get it out. Urutu also sent some engine bling to make the engine look nicer.

I love the Maserati MC, a curiosity that few people know is that in the European version the gearshift is the same as the 430 Scuderia, and the American version uses a slower automatic gearshift! Great content!

In the USA, the 2009 GTS model came with the same Ferrari gear box you speak of.
Marcelo S this car has a ZF transmission I believe and like Tommy said, the real true F1 transmission came in very limited supply to North America in 2009. Would be interesting to know the exact numbers that came and if they are holding their value over the standard ZF transmissions.
@@vlee1247 The Ricardo built F1 transmission is one of the most scorned transmissions to ever be put in a car, be it in a Ferrari, Lambo, or Maserati. It is terrible. The ZF equipped Maseratis are worth thousands more.
not exactly EU coz the rest of world all got the MC stradale yet the US. The non-US spec also has roll bars, rear seat delete options and sounds louder (maybe different tune or smaller muffler)

Urutu for the win! I was disappointed at first that I couldn’t take the 458 on the Bullrun but the xpipe really amped up the exhaust notes so beautifully that I forgot all my 458 troubles and had an epic week screaming around the country with my buds 😎
A few things I would have done differently would be to sawzall the old resonator off to speed things up and use dishwasher soap to help get the xpipe on instead of oil. No biggie but I could smell the burning oil the first couple of trips.
Or penetrating oil. That stuff burns off very fast...
I was lucky enough to do a factory walk through at Maserati and watch the cars being built ..
All the parts come from the Ferrari factory up the road and are assembled by hand by the Maserati staff .
The MC has to be one of the coolest sounding cars ever ..Even when it's running stock !

I would argue that making the gran turismo louder actually detracts from the sounds natural ability to turn heads. EVERYONE looks when they hear it anyway because its tone is so unique, making it sounds raspier and more like a race car ruins it a bit. Love the mod though it really is cool to see you work on.

I also installed a red air Bridge on my C5 Corvette it's supposed to smooth the airflow as it's going into the throttle body compared to a bellows type which causes a lot of turbulence besides it looks cool, by the way the Maserati exhaust sounds Wicked

Yeah, I have loved them since they first came out. Question, which transmission is more reliable in the long run? The auto or the dual clutch. I heard one of them was best to be avoided, but can't remember which. Not worried about ultimate performance. Reliability is more important to me.

Ah, yes, perhaps it was a single clutch...same question though. Torque converter auto trans or single clutch F1 trans?
The auto is probably considered more reliable but they are both solid.

Are the still selling the xpipes links not working?
Those who know exhaust scavenging know that the Urutu don’t work anything like the stock symmetrical X-pipe which has a 100% pipe intersection. It’ll make it sound louder and raspier but that’s due to the resonator deletion.

Yes, only the first 3 years had the center lock.

I think it was just an identification plate on the resonator. You'll see how we fixed the 458 soon...

I test drove the Gran Tourismo. Its a beautiful sounding car. I ended up though with buying a Lexus LC500, which is a helluva car with a lot more to offer than the Maserati.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the Maserati, but the Lexus LC500 is rarer and in my personal opinion, a better looking car. Looks though are subjective and I wouldn't fault anyone that wants to own a Maserati.

And why would you want to make a Maserati GTS - which is probably best sounding car along with lambo aven v12 and Aston v12 sounds like a 458. The Ferrari is a higher tone sound.

I'm not sure Richard cares since its his daily driver, but mention putting sport lowering springs on his MC and then 22/25 (front/back) spacers. I got mine from formula dynamics in Las Vegas. They also have Ferrari parts. Might sponsor you too. But the look is AMAZING compared to the stock look. The stock wheel gap kills me to look at.

The GranTurismo actually sounds better at lower revs than the Ferrari 458 stock, It doesn't really need any modification, its sound is already legendary as it's the most balanced and pleasant to the hears V8. Ferrari is better at higher revs where it screams like the F1 race and it's even more aggressive, it's a matter of personal preference...

No disrespect, but I think the Maserati stock already sounds much better than the 458. The Maserati had a deeper growl that’s rich whereas Ferrari has higher revving sound.
