    My favorite was rolling forward on my foam roller (I don't have any tennis balls). I could definitely feel the parts of my leg that were tight. I have had the foam roller for years and never used it in that way. This changes how I look at my arthritis in my knee. Before, I would stop running for weeks and just rest the knee. Now, I am doing light jogs, intervals, weights, etc, with minimal pain because I am keeping it in motion.

    But tips on standing/walking posture? How to safeguard and strenghten the knee/joint? What might help in cartilage preservation...and regeneration...?
    Thanks much...

    Surprisingly challenging for a short routine! My favorite parts are also the most challenging: the roller (oowwww) and the standing balance pose. I have arthritis in both knees, and I'm doing this routine for 40 days to observe the changes in the way it feels. Thx Dr Melissa!

    I was DX with OA in both knees six months ago. Its bad, but they don't want to replace because I'm only 58. I found your video a few days ago and it has helped me tremendously. The only thing I have trouble with is putting my leg out to the side when using the foam roller or lacrosse ball on front of thighs. Seems to put a lot of pressure on my knees so I am wondering if there is something you can suggest to help with that? could I put a cushion under the knee that is out to the side?

    I had surgery for a shredded meniscus 11 years ago. No further issues until a month ago. Diagnosis Osteo arthritis. My problem is when I straighten my knee (when sleeping for instance) I have sharp stabbing pains. I must keep the knee bent. Are the knees always bent in these exercises even when you say to straighten them and will the exercises still be effective if you keep a slight bend in the knee when doing them? Twisting is also a trigger and I have to be careful with that at this point. Intense pain that took me to the orthopedic doc just this last month when it flared for the first time in all these years. Thank you.

    The tennis ball was a wee bit awkward for me, think my hips are too tight. I have been told to use a roller for my tight calf muscles that are now causing pain on top of foot. I could use it for your video too. What am I looking for in a roller? Soft.. very stiff?

    • @DrMelissaOleson
      @DrMelissaOleson  2 года назад +1

      Yes you could use a foam roller instead of a tennis ball. Great question, for firmness in foam roller it depends on what works best for you. Some prefer more firmness and others tolerate softer ones.

    • @deb1996
      @deb1996 2 года назад

      But I have to say, trying out the tennis ball massage method has helped me loosen up a very tight calf muscle that may be the reason behind a very sore upper foot, believe it’s referred to as extensor tendonitis. So thanks for that!
