I hope your training is going well mate! I'm coming down from QLD for the Syd Marathon (my first) - hoping for under 4 hrs but as we get closer, I'm coming to terms with the idea that it might be safer and more enjoyable for me to focus on the experience, rather than my time in my first marathon distance run - felt like your video here was on-point! Subscribed and looking forward to more content in the future!

Thanks so much mate! Training sadly has been very up and down for a few reasons the past few weeks but hopefully back on track now. Hope yours is all going well!!
That's epic, my advice would be totally still go for that sub 4 if training is all going well, but still go out there with the intention of enjoying the experience if you don't quite make it! I definitely think for the first one you never really know what to expect, so having that goal of just enjoying it is always a good one!
You've probably heard it before, but definitely the best advice is to start off nice and easy. It's so easy to go out too quickly and probably suffer quite a bit more later on. Always best to start off slightly slower, then pick up later on if you're feeling it :)

Thanks mate - On the day I know that I should start slow.... theoretically. In practice I find it far to easy to be swept up in the excitement! I hope you've managed to finish your training to plan - I'd love to see a vid about tapering for beginners - I'm muddling through, but I'm both very tempted to go a little further, and terrified of hurting myself in the final weeks. Keep up the great work!@@RunningWithTK

Aww that’s epic! It’s great to see everyone getting behind the Sydney marathon, hopefully they can get that world major spot! Good luck with the training and hope it’s all tracking well. That was pretty much my goal for my first one too, just enjoy it mate!
Definitely come say hi if you see me around at c2s or the marathon!✌🏼

A 3:34 first marathon is awesome! I went from a 4:19 to 3:36 to a 3:12 and to my PR of 2:56. I think your jump of 34 minutes is reasonable since you have some experience under your belt now. Long runs day are an absolute must, don't sleep on those days. Best of luck and stay consistent!

Thanks so much! And well done, that’s such an awesome progression!!! 👏🏻
I think for me from 3:34 I’ll likely progress in a similar way from your 3:36. I’d love to do sub 3 in my next effort but realistically I think it may be number 3. See how we go 🙂 Thanks so much for checking out the channel too!

I would love to do Sydney but have decided to focus on Tokyo in 2024. Looking forward to watching your journey. I am also going to begin to video my journey. After doing NYC and Chicago I wish I had recorded the memories. I am looking for 3:20 to get a time for Boston. Good luck and hopefully you get your sub 3

    • @RunningWithTK

That’s a fair call! I was lucky to get a charity spot for Tokyo 🙌 so excited and maybe I’ll get the chance to see you there!
It’s definitely great to watch back the videos, especially those big marathon experiences! Best of luck with the Boston qualifier. If I miss out in Sydney I’ll be hopeful to continue to sub 3 in Tokyo! Definitely a much flatter course so I think it’s looking more realistic for me at this stage!

Good luck, also looking to break 3 (London 2024), have come up short with two attempts before (both 3:04 at London), hamstring cramps cost me both times, so hoping to address that for the next one

This is awesome and so many similarities with my journey. I also ran London in April as my first ever Marathon 3:37 (3:30 was my goal) now I’m 5 weeks away from my next and as much as I’d love sub 3, my aim is 3:10 for Chicago qualification

    • @RunningWithTK
      @RunningWithTK  Год назад

Sounds like we are on a very similar path mate! Congrats on the first finish and time, it's addictive isn't it haha How is your training all going for the next one?
I'm 2 weeks out now and I think 3:10 is probably more the shape I am in as well. But we shall see, sadly the Sydney course is also quite hilly 😂
Best of luck with Chicago qualifier! Got this 💪

Best of luck mate. Stay disciplined with your training, listen to your body and you'll smash it! If it doesn't happen in Sydney, get yourself up to the Gold Coast next July - fastest course in Australia!

Thanks so much mate! If I had to guess I think I’m looking just over 3 hours at this stage, especially on a pretty hilly course! But I’ll definitely keep on working and see what happens. Gold coast next year could the one!
