@@darthtyranus7683 Crazy how a gun from the 1890s that has probably had 2-3 *million* rounds fired through it isn't accurate. If you get a factory new Mosin-Nagant it's very fucking accurate. Easily just as accurate as the SMLE, Springfield, and Mausers. It's about condition more than the gun itself. Mosins were and are abused heavily, and it's not easy to turn down a brand new Mosin-Nagant barrel, not to mention doing so would ruin the historical value of the gun. Some of the most iconic snipers from WWII were Russian snipers using PU Mosins.
The Mosin also has the infamous 'obrez' stock and barrel in the game, an old way of turning your rifle into a concealable, makeshift 'pistol'/short-barreled rifle. Not super practical for long range shooting, but it's something I could see real-life 'scavs' or bandits using in a scenario like Tarkov.
@@nickstav08 Yep, because it was a lot easier to get your hands on a Mosin you could saw down than it was to get a decent pistol (Nagant revolvers, Browning 1900s, etc.) Plus, a lot of revolutionaries and such were often former soldiers of the Great War so they'd have some familiarity with the Mosin.

7:33 After the second word war the Soviet union originally wanted 4 weapons all chambered in 7,62x41mm (yes 41mm case length). A bolt action rifle, a self loading rifle, a light machinegun and an "avtomat" an assault rifle also capable of doing sub machinegun stuff. The weapons were developed and testes. In 1948 all the weapons were nearly already done, the carriage showed insufficient accuracy in arctic conditions. The bulled had to be longer hand heavier to work. The problem was now, that all the nearly finished weapons had to be redesign, to work with the now longer cartridge. To prevent this the case was shortened the amount the bullet was enlarged. So the 7,62x41mm became the 7,62x39mm we all know today. This chance hat certain effects on the guns now rechambered for the 39mm case length. The bolt action rifle was dropped completely, the self loading rifle (SKS) was now insufficient in range as well as the light machinegun (RPD). But the "Avtomat" (AK) had profited from the shorter cartridge, because is was much more controllable then the AK-46 in 7,62x41mm. Because of that the Soviet army ditched the original plan, equipping every soldier with an SKS and only squad leaders and certain special forces with AKs, and equipped everyone with an AK. Because of production issued with the AK, the SKS served as a ad hoc stop gab.
There may have been some cartridge experimentation early on, but the 7.62x39 was standardized in 1943, hence its M43 designation. In the closing months of WW2 the SKS was even tested in the field in combat. By then it had already been accepted that 7.62x39 was going to be their official cartridge.
@@dmytro732 This contradict the information I got from Edward Clinton Ezells book "Kalashnikov: The Arms and the Man", Alexei Nedelins book "Оружие Калашникова - Kalashnikov Arms" and the information Maxim Popenker gave Ian McCollum on an interview about the AKs history. Were did you got the information from, that the M43 Cartridge was standardized with a length of 39mm in 1943?
@@Grasyl Ok, actually we were both right. The 7.62x41 cartridge was exactly the same as 7.62x39 but it was a case neck that was a few mm longer. The case dimensions were unchanged, they just trimmed the neck back. Overall length was also unchanged. Cartridge ballistics should also be the same and all the firearms chambered in the x41 cartridge should be able to fire 7.62x39 without any modifications. "Officially" it was standardized in 1943 although it was a few years later that the modern version of the cartridge began to be used.
@vettelover2009 Nagant wasn't really "credited" with anything. His rifle was competing against Mosin's one. Mosin won, but the final iteration of Mosin's rifle had some elements of Nagant's design. The whole thing ended as a legal dispute, and now the rifle itself is called винтовка Мосина (vintovka Mosina), or Mosin's rifle in Russian.

its kinda cool to see this irl. yeah tarkov had forced me to learn about gunz lol Like which ammo fit which mag to which gun and if u install longer barrel its less recoil and also a recoil pad for the back stock to recoil with ur shoulder. Or most importantly which gun upper receiver have a mount so u can put a scope on it. Even a simple forgrip or lazer requires a mount. Cause u know cod players used to have everything handed to them whereas tarkov its a learning process
And there is whole new dimension in rounds used... Distance. Nice example (most drastic one) 9x19 PBP. It has biggest penetration of 9x19 to 50 m. But 50 m+ AP 6.3 is better overall... And i think it is awesome we have to keep in mind differences in range characteristics of different ammo.
Yeah, this isn't really a comparison, just an awkward cash-in on the popularity of Tarkov. They should have explained the differences in ammunition, for example, or compared the qualitative IRL shooting experience to that in Tarkov using in-game footage as an example, maybe even a PoV shot down the sights irl. They could have done a lot more here. There's a lot to talk about. A lot of Tarkov players are interested in guns but haven't shot them before. They might want to know how realistic Tarkov's weapon handling is, or whether the recoil values are authentic (spoilers: they never have been and definitely are not now.) IMO every weapon has way too much recoil. The first-shot recoil values are exaggerated and don't really make any sense. Re-centering of the gun after shooting takes way too long in-game. Many cartridges have outrageous recoil values. Pre-12.12 7.62x51 was pretty realistic. Post-12.12 is like .50 BMG levels of recoil. Pre-patch 5.56/5.45 recoil was way too high already. You can keep the muzzle almost still IRL if you are a good shooter, only a hair worse than shooting a .22. 7.62x39 is where they really fucked up. The SKS in-game causes you to look at the sky when you spam it, if you shoot it slowly it jumps like a foot into the air. IRL the SKS has only mildly more recoil than 5.56. It's a heavy gun and the cartridge is relatively light on recoil compared to full-sized cartridges, so it doesn't flip much. If you hold it tightly it barely flips. Even pre-patch values were too high. Sadly, Reddit thinks that the recoil isn't "realistic" until the values are so exaggerated they cease to resemble reality. Another instance of the "hardcore = realistic" fallacy. IRL guns are designed to have light recoil impulse since it's beneficial to be able to shoot them quickly and accurately. This is why they are fitted with muzzle brakes, buffer tubes, delayed locking systems, lightened bolts, and accessories like grips and ergonomic stocks. This is also why intermediate cartridges became commonplace. They pack the power and accuracy of a rifle but with very light recoil. They are "OP" and "meta" in real life. Reddit should stop mapping game concepts like "meta" onto a simulator lol.
I wasn't expecting this collab but pleasantly surprised lol! I watch both channels. Cool to see that the Brownells guys play EFT, then again why wouldn't they... EFT is by far the most true to reality firearms game I've ever seen or played. I only just started EFT two weeks ago and it's already my favorite shooter game ever, nothing even comes close, and I've played a lot of shooters. The attention to detail they put into it is insane, I've already found (in game) my exact Dynacomp ST compensator and Romeo 4 red dot sight that I have on my AR in real life, and I also found my real life DS Arms SA-58 (but I lost it after I died and it got looted off me lol). You'd think they'd just have labeled it a generic "FAL" like most games do, but nope, they have real life manufacturers names in the game, real life parts, and the graphics are spot on, I couldn't believe it. Escape From Tarkov is an absolute must play for gun guys who want a more immersive experience than can be had in CoD lol.
I remember that they intended to put FN FAL in the game, but they had issues with licensing. They went with DSA instead. No idea how or why though given the fact that there were other FN guns around.
"This [Mosin] was the gun at WWII for Russians" This was the gun at WW1 for Russians as well! Russian Empire was one of the better equipped sides that time, in large part thanks to this timeless Mosin 3-line (.300) rifle. WW1 guns were partially made by Remington btw.
That's touched on in the video actually, with Robbie mentioning it being not only used in WW2 but WW1 and even the Revolution, being the 3rd most manufactured weapon behind the AK(?) and the Mauser. Still worth mentioning though so second this
It's always odd to me even when it shouldn't that people don't have knowledge on things like guns that to me is common sense. E.g he didn't know that the Mosin was the standard infantry rifle on the Russian side.
True. It was already bad before the update and now it's hilarious. The stock SKS causes you to look at the sky when you shoot. IRL SKSes have such light recoil and they're very fun to shoot.

Not really. AKs are fine within 400 meters. The accuracy difference between ARs and AKs is not significant enough to matter for most purposes. Mosin accuracy varies since they were mass produced like crazy, but they're still accurate enough for most purposes as well. In all likelihood accuracy is a shooter problem and not a rifle problem for comblock weaponry. Other rifles that receive a lot of criticism get it unfairly. The SVD is often said to have point of impact shifts after a few rounds -- but this happens with all rifles and it's not enough to matter at the ranges for which the SVD was intended. The SV-98 is perfectly fine, and other Russian precision rifles are good. Modern variations of Russian rifles are also very accurate. The 2016 AK-12 has an improved barrel and trunnion, which aids accuracy considerably, as well as a rigid dust cover to prevent optics from moving out of zero. The original 2012 design was probably better than an AR. There is also a doctrinal difference between the US and Russian armed forces. Russia prioritizes volume of fire, so it's not a problem for them if they do not have perfectly accurate rifles -- they never demanded this. On the other hand, in the US, our military is sort of old-fashioned and prioritizes marksmanship, so military officials put in contracts for highly accurate rifles and they continue to do so. This is why they insisted on the M14 over the M16 in the cold war era -- but it turns out Russia had the right idea all along. Volume of fire is more important than accuracy in war. The vast majority of rounds fired never hit a target, but they do have the effect of causing movements or pinning the enemy down, which is what really matters. More boolets = more volume of fire = fire superiority = victory. Still, the US insists on maximizing accuracy, even if it might be wasteful. You could argue, just as those behind the duplex cartridge project did, that greater dispersion decreases the impact of shooter error and increases hit probability even if it also increases inaccuracy. The AK's slightly worse accuracy might be thus beneficial at longer ranges for military applications.
I don't understand where do you need «accuracy» when you are blindly firing, somewhere where might be an enemy, just to suppress them. I really cannot understand what is the gain from «accuracy» there. More than 4 MOA accuracy.

@@darthtyranus7683 it’s not the gun I would bring to a modern match but for the history and fun factor they are pretty awesome. Hunting is also an option but yea it’s not like I would take my PU sniper over my decked out 700 to a match for sure.
Congrats, you get all your knowledge from RUclips videos and wiki
Obrez's were used during the russian revolution by partisans and bandits
@@nickstav08 Yep, because it was a lot easier to get your hands on a Mosin you could saw down than it was to get a decent pistol (Nagant revolvers, Browning 1900s, etc.)
Plus, a lot of revolutionaries and such were often former soldiers of the Great War so they'd have some familiarity with the Mosin.

So cool that Brownells is branching out and embracing the gaming community!
this is awesome, its good to see different communities get into the 2A world. the gaming community i think is great addition to this. much like older generations that got into guns simply because of the movies or tv shows that they would watch.
I have always loved firearms, but this game made me go gun crazy.
Also worth mentioning the Mosin Nagants' original version and action was designed 1891 and before.
And it’s French, amirite?
@@bocefusmurica4340 no nagant is a Belgium designer and the russian one was sergei mosin
There’s a great in-depth look at dev elopement and use of the misión on C&Rsenal I’d recommend.

I never thought I'd see Jessie handling real guns, whilst collabing with Robbie Rotten
I have an m91/30 , an m44, and a finnish m39. The Finns absolutely killed it with changing front sights. The side folding bayonet on the m44 is pretty cool too.
Im Glad this game is helping people to know how firearms work and what works with them ammo wise/accessories
Is the Mosin an original imperial Mosin "M1891 / 3-Line Rife", because of the teeth at the sight and the octagonal chamber?
Ya that one is definitely an m91 mosin,it has the old arshin rear sight and just the barley post up front.
Brownells went from giving us the BRN-180 to making a video over a video game. SVD receivers...When?
You are right! They HAVE become a well rounded gun channel with a little something for everyone! Since this channel is one big advertisement for their brand they are doing a great job!
We're in a culture war for the 2nd Amendment. Video games are probably the best way to get people into the 2nd Amendment and gun culture. The same way action movies were for the older generation.

Dang, now I'm interested in the game. Have to do some research on what it takes to get started.
Need a good computer
A desire to learn the maps and get used to the intricacies doesn't hurt, they recently did a wipe in December and added some of the most important things to the game in years, including a new map, inertia (if your a heavy boy it takes longer to get to full speed), and VOIP (allows you to talk to people in-game)
@@LeonSteelpaw Definitely need to learn the maps. I just downloaded the game last night and got my ass handed to me, lost everything. The whiskey probably didn't help😁

its kinda cool to see this irl. yeah tarkov had forced me to learn about gunz lol
Like which ammo fit which mag to which gun and if u install longer barrel its less recoil and also a recoil pad for the back stock to recoil with ur shoulder. Or most importantly which gun upper receiver have a mount so u can put a scope on it. Even a simple forgrip or lazer requires a mount. Cause u know cod players used to have everything handed to them whereas tarkov its a learning process
Definitely did not expect Caleb to say that he's a two-wipe Tarkov player. Very cool collaboration, guys!
Heck yes, number 3 now!
This guy truly is clueless and the guy explaining isn't much better
Yeah, this isn't really a comparison, just an awkward cash-in on the popularity of Tarkov. They should have explained the differences in ammunition, for example, or compared the qualitative IRL shooting experience to that in Tarkov using in-game footage as an example, maybe even a PoV shot down the sights irl. They could have done a lot more here.
There's a lot to talk about. A lot of Tarkov players are interested in guns but haven't shot them before. They might want to know how realistic Tarkov's weapon handling is, or whether the recoil values are authentic (spoilers: they never have been and definitely are not now.)
IMO every weapon has way too much recoil.
I’d never imagine I’d see Jesse Kazam on a brownells video and I couldn’t be happier
Any chance Brownells could reach out to General Sam who also streams? I bet if you can swing him, he would absolutely love to hang out with ya Caleb

"This [Mosin] was the gun at WWII for Russians"
This was the gun at WW1 for Russians as well!

"Magpul magazine is my go to" things never said no one
AR PMags are the way to go, AK Gen 3 Magpul mags are fantastic with the upgraded locking lugs, beat the hell out of a lot of surplus mags out there
All Russian military rifles/carbines/ammunition's share one specific trait ................. lousy accuracy.
That ak needs tech sights
Yeah yup uh huh interesting.
