Just took this to the range and wow what a difference. I've been struggling with my driver for a few weeks now and coming outside in on my irons and today, arrow straight drives and a baby draw on the irons (and probably 10% longer to boot!). Anyone who hasn't tried this please do, it's a game changer. Thanks Steve!!!
You have helped me erase 75% of my swing thoughts with your instruction. AND I'VE BEEN TAKING LESSONS FROM MY CLUB'S HEAD PRO! 5 weeks ago, 105 to mid 80s. "Keep it simple" thanks from Florida.
When I get frustrated with the game, I turn to your videos not only for your tips but also your love of the game and your great lighted hearted sense of humor. Keep it coming.
Appreciate your perspective on the downswing…a lot of times golf instructor’s perspectives can be hard to merge the concept and reality on the course…I have adopted your bunker technique and though not expert, definitely not leaving bunker shots in the bunker anymore…keep it up Steve…realize that no matter how many pros try to teach or explain the same concepts and techniques, the student will relate to some more than others… that’s why I follow your content👍👍👍
This video has had a bigger impact than any others on my understanding of the swing. Nice and simple, beautifully communicated. Thanks so much - subscribed!
That worked for me for many years doing something similar. Now this year I straightened that out and feel like I’m coming over the top. And hitting it dead straight. So I changed my eyeline to being way ahead of the ball in feel
I have to admit, your explanation and demonstration of the correct swing sequence was easy to understand and follow and I look forward to trying it out at the range for both irons and woods. Thanks. 👍
Man, it just clicked-- lead eye on the ball, turn the head with the club. This is exactly what my body was trying to do 3 days ago when I played. What an idea. Thanks.
Been struggling with my driver for the past two years now. Duck hooks OB etc. It kills my chance of par and my total score. My irons are fine. Ive been a 12 hcp. Tried this tip today first one down the middle. Second one boom. I played each driveable hole on my course for 14 holes in my mind on the range. I would have shot 78. This belt buckle move is what I’ve been looking for ! Thanks Steve! I’m a subscriber for life!
Awesome lesson! Clear uncomplicated instructions. Simple, straightforward swing motions. Fewer moving parts. I have tried this on the course and my shots have been solid (most of them) and on target (most of them.) The misses are still in the right neighborhood! This makes the game more fun. Thank you for simplifying a complicated game! Really appreciate your videos! Thanks!
I like your magic moves. Please make one video about how long you keep bend left knee at impact and then to extend fully with finish. I noticed I have to stay down longer to go through the ball not to hit fat shot and then extend very late . Most of the high handicapper has this problem to hit fat shot .
I like the way you swing back on a more shallow plane. When I do this I get more width and power, better in to out flights and it just feels so much more natural and effilortless
Great stuff again Steve! The golf swing, for many, is often better without a ball! "Letting it go" and swinging through the ball....as if it wasn't there(!) is often a great exercise to help better understand that the swing is through.....not hitting at...the ball. Love your honesty....again, about a missed strike! The sound was certainly different😂
I took this to the range today. This is wizardry. It added 25 yards to my average total distance with driver. It added 12 yards to my maximum distance and my longest shot went from being 25 yards left offline to 6 yards. Absolutely unreal.
Happy Christmas, Steve! This is a great video and I wish you were closer so I could come for a lesson. I have had a theory about alignment, for a long time, and this video just solidified it for me. It also opened my eyes to how this theory impacts our regular golf swing and how we set up to the target, potentially either left or right of the intended target. I would love to see you test this yourself and let me know what you find. Which eye is your dominant eye? Whichever eye that is, for me it is right, set up for a 12-foot, straight putt...however, in my case being right-eye dominant I would use a left-handed putter. Let me know if you find it any easier to see and set up to the intended line of your put. It may take a bit to get the feel of putting from this side of the ball, but notice if your misses are more online and if it is easier to identify your intended line. What solidified it for me was your tip about turning your head to the right and "looking" behind the ball. Jack Nicklaus did this...I now believe I understand why, too. Could it be that it takes the dominant eye out of the swing? I'd love to know your thoughts.
Interesting, thanks Steve. I've discovered through a lot of experimentation this year, that going "at" the ball is my biggest problem. For my swing something needs to happen back/behind the ball instead of at it. I've been working on the feeling of throwing the clubhead back/behind but I'll give the head strategy you described in this video a try.
Hi Steve. How do you tell whether your hips are "sliding/swaying" versus, a perfect hip "bump" and then that hard rotation at the end? I've been working very hard on this lately. I have also been told that the hip "bump" is not supposed to go forward but more "back", so it's the start of the hard rotation?! Thoughts?
Great lesson, Steve. I struggle with sliding my body forward with the driver. I intend to practice your method at my club range this week. Hope you get some sunshine soon!

You have more innovative thinking about the golf swing than anyone else on RUclips. Always interesting, thanks.
@@jamesgriffin958 thanks James. Every day is a school day👍
Again, a home run of Instruction. Thanks for being there Steve
You are very welcome

Love the way you never cut mistakes, so real Steve, you keep it so simple and i love it, playing Thursday, cant wait now😊

You’re definitely the funniest teacher. The club shaft location was quite brilliantly explained. Rain, rain Scotland you mean GB.
Absolutely love your instruction Steve! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks Neil👍👍👍

Have fun!
@@stevejohnstongolf Congrats on the 100k milestone btw. Well done and deserved.
Great Vid. One of the best. Nice that this technique can be applied to irons and driver. Bravo!!
Awesome, awesome and awesome!!! Thank you Coach Steve. You the man
No problem👍
Best lesson I’ve had in ages. Can’t wait to try and practice this technique.
Can you give a lesson/video to a student learning the move for driver? Also whats the fix if you slice while trying this method?
Great stuff !!!

Happy New Year, Steve. Hope it’s a healthy, prosperous and successful year for you in 2024!
This video is worth watching just to see the perfectly straight tee shot at the end. Never seen that before.
I struggle with a slice and Sir I will start practicing this move sequence. Thank you for another great video.

This is relevant, succinct and clear (AND enthusiastic!) instruction. Thank you Steve, and keep up the good work!
Big Jack, back in the day turned his head to the right and looked at the ball with his left eye.
I was going to say the same thing. That is what Jack did.
He was left eye dominant
Jack hit a million balls watched by the best coaches in the world
Thought you meant big Jack Charlton when heading the ball😂

Love your work Steve. Great
Love your videos Steve, simple instructions for an old git like me! Can’t wait to get to the range tomorrow ⛳️💪🏼👌🏻
very good lesson. very much enjoyed the humour that was included

good looking at your previous …. always good

Great video Steve. Off to Spain next week... I will give it a whirl.

very well explained!!! this really helped me!!!!
Looks like the position and feel as if you was going to hit a baseball. Low swing around your body. Great instruction Steve. Happy New Year mate.
Great lesson. Can’t wait to try these ideas. Thanks.

Great video Steve.
Brilliant Stevie boy 👏
Great video just love your step by step guide
Excellent Steve thank you.
Nice one Steve.
Great video showing separation between upper and lower body at impact.
Glad you liked it!
Thanks!!!!
very nice
Does this work for wedges too?
I only watched this in April if you do another later in 2024 I am in
Steve. Nice improvement on impact position. Could it also improve shoulder turn (on the backswing) and avoid overly bending left arm?

Interested Steve..👌
SOLID!!!
No Eureka Swing anymore?
That hat though😂
But I ain’t got a left eye. Merry Christmas, Steve
I sse you didn't check my holiday schedule before choosing the dates for your training camp😢 only kidding, best of luck 😊
Isn’t be better to address the driver on the bottom behind the ball at the tee? You address the driver at the ball and at the bottom…
Thankyou I really struggle with my driver as my shots always seem to go right, will give this a try.🤞
You can do it!
Exactly what my instructor taught me…delay the chest
Great content really enjoyed it 👌 GRAHAM
Seems looking back stoops you from turning too much too soon in the downswing.
I would never take advice from a golfer that hits off turf when they are standing on a perfectly good tee box 😂
👍👍
why the beaver tail sized piece of fake turf your hitting off of? lol
Golf is soooo simple. Which is why 90% can't break 100 and less than 2% are on the tour. Probably less. Soo simple golf is lol.
Easiest way to hit driver straight: chapstick
Im left handed and have tilted my head behind ball and look at ball more with right eye. Been doing this for yrs and pure it almost everytime
thx Steve. These drills provide check points for my swing and provide a "feel" and a tempo for the movement. keep'em coming.
Great lesson, Steve. I struggle with sliding my body forward with the driver. I intend to practice your method at my club range this week. Hope you get some sunshine soon!
I love this, I feel the driving range calling 😁
Awesome drills 👍
