It also says playing with others is better than playing with yourself lol. He said it was designed by an artist that's known for his erotic art work so I'm sure they were meant as innuendos
The sewing machine video was excellent. It's so weird but I love it. Please keep it coming, we want all your Gameboy products to have a coat for their own.
Has anyone mentioned the fact that it says "have a PEASANT play"? lmao That GB and the packaging are stunning and I would've never known it had existed without this video! Thank you for sharing your collection with us as it grows so that we can continue to learn about the history of these old consoles.
Hi Elliot. I have one of these that I bought second hand a few years ago. It came with the original carrier bag from an event held in Akihabara on July 25th / 26th 1998 (or 24th / 25th??). The ones on the card backs were sold there. The boxed ones where not, I believe. I was thrilled to get the carrier bag with the date on, as the day the original person bought it was actually my birthday; when I was Game Boy mad, but as a kid in England could never have imagined a light up GB existed. Btw here is a tip, the plastic is a bit brittle so remove the battery door and keep it safe, replace it with one from the repro clear shells. This game boy was my only game boy played for a few years and changing the batteries felt a bit sketchy as the plastic could do a little creaking sound sometimes. Also, if you want to get a hint of the youth vibe in Tokyo at the time, check out 'fruits magazine' it will really take you back to the era.
Plastic creaking does not mean brittleness. If some plastic actually snapped off too easily or it has stress-cracks that would be one thing, but just a "creaking sound" doesn't mean anything.
@@xeokym223 the older the plastic gets, the more vulnerable to stress cracking and breakage it becomes. Clear plastics often suffer the most in my experience. There are plenty of broken GBL and GBP battery hatches on eBay auctions. The GBL hatches have a particularly tight bend and flex a lot when removed. We are free to use our own judgement when it comes to £500 game boys. In my opinion, creaking is a reminder of the delicate nature of aged plastic.
@@tsutenkakurobo9642 Yeah I am unfortunately well aware of plastic degradation over time...all I was saying that _creaking_ does not automatically indicate it. _A brand new toy will have creaky plastic._ You could get into the finer aspects of what the creak sounds like but I'm afraid without being able to give examples it's difficult to describe with just words. You can hear the "dryness" in the creaking with plastic that has aged, likely due to the surface oils having dried up, but then again I don't think that is an indication of the plastic itself being internally brittle. Unless you can _see_ stress cracks. I have had toys that sat on a shelf for 20 years and you can get rid of that dry creaking (which tends to cause more binding between pieces that rub together) with a light cloth rub-down with mineral oil, which is non-reactive with most plastics and will restore a little bit of surface protection at the same time. I'm not sure if translucent plastic is generally weaker than solid colored plastic, or if it only seems that way because you can see the internal stress cracks that you would not otherwise even be aware of if the plastic was solid. Honestly over the years it seems like it's the mix of the chemicals used together with method of manufacture, rather than than how much dye was or was not used. The only translucent plastic that had specific known issues, at least with Bandai toys, was the gold sparkly translucent plastic, which they corrected. There have been some real blunders over the years where plastic mixes were so bad that toys disintegrated into shards while still in the packaging, and that was right after manufacture and had nothing to do with degradation over time. And anyone who has experience with resin casting knows it doesn't take much of one part of the mix being off slightly to have the piece come out too soft or too brittle, and also has a lot to do with even the temperature and humidity level of the atmosphere it's done in. I didn't say you weren't free to do whatever you wanted with your own stuff. I just don't think "creakiness" is something to get worried over as there is PLENTY of creaking going on with brand new toys made of plastic, translucent or not. In the long run, we're talking about things that were never really intended to last 40+ years in the first place. They were toys intended for kids to have fun with. If they have lasted this long that's amazing and great, and you are free to use it or preserve it as you see fit. In the long run it's all going to disintegrate eventually.
I imagine maybe eventually there might be 3rd party shells for the more recent consoles, but unfortunately it's getting harder & harder to get into a unit. I would love a translucent replacement case for my Switch!
Man, that is a beauty. I recall many fond memories of hiding under my blanket as a kid with the worm light and my classic Gameboy until I got the Gameboy Color.
Holy shit man, first of all I want to say I'm really glad for you and I can see your enthusiasm through all the video haha This video makes me happier bc I have a "dream device" I've always wanted since I was kid but missed the chance at the time. It is one of those virtual pets (the Digimon one to be specific) and while they're still available in Amazon US, the heavy taxes like shipping, customs and not to mention the exchange rate (I'm from Brazil) makes it almost impossible for me to get it, but I hope to make that dream come true someday just like you man. Congrats!
I love these limited run videos. It's so cool to see these rare consoles and peripherals especially still working! You should make a video on the Millennium 2000 N64 controller. Or rare N64 controllers in general. My Millennium controller is the crown jewel in my collection 🙂
I know Timex watches are seen as cheap by many people (I have one I use for camping, when I don't want to risk my usual one), but I have always adored the indiglo backlight on them. The Game Boy Light seems to use the exact same tech, which is maybe why I want one so badly.
What a beautiful little thing! I love transparent shells and wish they still made stuff like that. Even if modern devices are crammed to the brim with stuff so you can't actually see much... I'd still love modern devices with that look. Especially with a perfectly clear shell like this beauty! I grew up with the transparent purple Gameboy Color and always loved the look so much.
Dude, this is amazing! I'm sooo happy for you. The best moment when you crave something as a kid and years later actually have a chance to get it. The moment of accomplishment and having a dream coming true, is the best thing ever! And the best thing is YOU have one now and that makes one less for these scalpers who only sit on these and not letting anyone actually enjoy it.
You inspired me to start repairing gameboys. I’ve learned from you. I’ve repaired the battery contacts in one and the vertical lines on it. I’m starting to repair another’s vertical lines
Thank you again Elliot for another amazing look at a fantastic portable. Years ago I was given the option to buy a Gameboy Light or a Famicom with a Mario Bros Game&Watch and since I never had a NES as a kid, (plus a bonus Game&Watch!)I opted for the latter. Years go by and my collection of portables increase with seeing videos of Stuart making handheld videos and I always kinda regretted not getting the Light instead. Forward now to modern times, you have shown us how much easier and less on the wallet these items can be obtained and now two of the three portables have made my way to my collection for the price of one.
The Gameboy Pocket was the very first handheld, truthfully the first video game console of any kind, that was 100% my own. I had an NES and other home consoles that I shared with my family, but my Gameboy Pocket was entirely my own. I loved it so much, it’s still one of my favorite handhelds ever and I played a whole lot of Pokémon Blue version on it as a kid. But if I could have gotten my hands on a Gameboy Light I absolutely would have!
Thank you for making me aware of this special edition game boy. It has inspired me to build a modded GBC in the same clear shell style with the white accents.
This has got to be one of my all-time favourite gameboys as well, and as someone who'll likely never be able to justify picking one up, it brings a smile to my face to see you get your hands on one! I can't think of any other examples where a system's packaging is quite as big a part of the appeal as in this case. I'd honestly love to just find a copy of the packaging for myself one day, or maybe even find a high res image of it to turn into a poster.
Most people in their 20s invest in gold, crypto, maybe real estate. Elliot invests in Gameboys, the capital with the highest growth in value over time, This man will be a Billionare in 50 years selling one gameboy a year for hundreds of millions.
I collected videogames in my 20s, mostly because I was finally able to afford the games my parents couldn't when I was a kid. However, when I recently started to categorize them in a database, some titles I have are going for stupid money. I was thinking of thinning out my collection but after seeing how much it's worth maybe I'll hold on to it instead. 😅
There are so many gameboys I didn’t know existed. I just want the boxy pixel unfolded sp in all silver with silver buttons and all the upgrades. And then set it on my shelf to never use.

Congrats Elliot! I hope you enjoy it! It really is a one of a kind Game Boy! I really want the translucent red Game Boy Light Osamu Tezuka one with Astro Boy, and Kimba the White Lion on it. That's one of my "grail" Game Boys I want to own someday.
mines in the 4400 range so almost end of the run. Got a full transparent collection of all the gameboys. If only the micro came out as a famitsu aswell 👌 love clear tech
I’m actually more of a fan of the Astroboy version, mainly for sentimental reasons. I watched the 1970’s Color version as a kid on tv here on Canadian network television. I’m also a Osamu Tesuka fan, so if I ever find the red Tesuka World Gameboy light for a good price, that would be my preferred version.
When i was a kid, the moment they released the GBC in Japan, they've exported Game Boy Lite in switzerland. So we had also GBL. But people from others countrie believe it was sold only in japan, wich is wrong. In my coutry it's common to find Game Boy light.
this is sick dude, i still need to buy a game boy light lol 😂 i'm thinking about buying a tezuka osamu red gbl with the artwork chipped, then i'll scrape the rest off and have a polished red game boy light 😍
Its called the prison game boy, we had some in the can in philly. Only allowed 30 minutes on it. EDIT : Not alot, maybe 1 on 3 out of 5 levels (top level for murderers) guess they are rare. Just 6000 in 🇯🇵 then why were they in 🇺🇸 prisons? Maybe 6000 commercially available but Nintendo sold some to private prison corporations.
Even if I'll never have enough money to afford the real thing, I absolutely need to get a poster of the packaging, I'm a huge lover of retro futurism and to have official Gameboy packaging in that style with a Rockin Jelly Bean illustration is unbelievably cool.
Fun fact I was born in 2006 , the Gameboy advance was already out for three years then fast forward to 2013 , I had just turned 7 and had gotten my first ever console , The GameBoy Advance , after only a decade I had got a Gameboy advance , PS 3 and all those generation of consoles were already out . But I didn't care . That GameBoy , the most fun thing I ever owned in my life , I can just remember past me playing TMNT in the car , sadly I broke it in a rage fit while playing donkey kong land 2 (Lol) . Fastforward to today , I'm 15 in highschool and the Gameboy series still fascinates me , even more than a PS5 , yep , this console from 18 years ago still manages to interest me more than most current generation consoles . I know , I know , I'm lame (Lol)
they should've called it gameboy bright instead of light.because when the first time i tried to buy these gameboys.......the only thing that showed were backlight modded gameboys and wormlights
Yeah i think for the sheer purpose of backlighting the whole EL backlights are a lot better than the LED variants that are often just toooo bright. Why Nintendo just didn't add that to the original 1996 release of the Game Boy Pocket is beyond me.... I mean at just TWO AA batteries it is still half the energy consumption of the original Game Boy from 1989. They always kept the actual GOOD stuff only for Japan >_> This exclusivity never makes any sense for a corporation who should KNOW they could make a hell lot of money of it.
What do you think of this beauty?
boob

Worth the money!
It looks amazing. Too bad only a limited supply was made.
The transparency is gorgeous!
its absolutely beautiful.
There’s no way that “Jackin! To that girl with your junction cable” wasn’t meant to be sexual
It also says playing with others is better than playing with yourself lol. He said it was designed by an artist that's known for his erotic art work so I'm sure they were meant as innuendos

Fastforward to today , I'm 15 in highschool and the Gameboy series still fascinates me , even more than a PS5 , yep , this console from 18 years ago still manages to interest me more than most current generation consoles . I know , I know , I'm lame (Lol)
Cool story bro
They were only released in Japan yet it’s covered in English text.
This one of my wishlists, next to the Marble GameBoy Pocket

I'm so jealous 😭😭, thanks for the great videos. Hopefully one day I'll get one
This is awesome. I've never seen one of these in person. Totally worth it!
Elliott, make a video on all your Gameboys, the Toyota looks cool
Ah, I got this one loose for like 400$ after selling some of my stuff (they were extras that I didnt want anymore). I still have it.
they should've called it gameboy bright instead of light.because when the first time i tried to buy these gameboys.......the only thing that showed were backlight modded gameboys and wormlights
I like the skeleton clarity thanks for schooling me in on this rare japan gameboy light. Though i live in japan i had no idea that these existed.
Dang the editing is cleann
0:28 wow old RUclips so clean
Whoa! Much needed in my collection
They always kept the actual GOOD stuff only for Japan >_> This exclusivity never makes any sense for a corporation who should KNOW they could make a hell lot of money of it.
really cool that the motherboard is white, all others are green. you have got to mention those kinda things!
Nice. I have a pikachu gb colour, a NES GB SP, and a see thru purple toys r' us GBA with afterburner light.
