Would've been interesting to try the Slime Speaker with other devices >,> Something really nostalgic about seeing these old accessories. Feels super cozy and reminds me of a time when game shops used to have entire DS sections of these kinds things and I'd never be able to have one lol.
The mic on my DS was broken and I needed to use a mic to get past a part in Zelda Phantom Hourglass. I bought the headset to be able to finish the game.
@@lupinbupin I see that I have stumbled upon some fine gentlemen who just so happen to follow Dankpods and in doing so have distinguished them selves among the crowd in this comments section.
on the headset accessory: I'm thinking that little extra connector is essentially a resistor to indicate to the DS to switch the headphone port to use the TRS (TipRingSleeve) jack from the accessory correctly. So like an identification for it. If you measure the resistances between the connectors on that thing, I wonder if you'd see two tied together (no resistance, ground?) and the other two having different resistances to the ground pins, like 4700 and 1000 ohms or something.
*edit* - oh yeah, it's only got the one speaker :P If you look at the headphone jack, I'm only seeing 2 rings, not the 3 you'd usually see on ones with an inline mic. I'm pretty sure that little extra bit is the mic.
@@TheRealZyconis you'd see 2 rings (TRRS) if it was a combo microphone and headphone jack. Since this is a mono speaker and a mono microphone, it looks like all the audio is going through the jack, and so it'd be using one of the rings for mic in and one for speaker out. if it was just a mono speaker (or just the microphone), you'd see just the tip and sleeve, with no rings
Good Guess but it's not the mic is the part on the extra pins. You could get 3rd part mics for use when using headphones that where just the rectangle pins for use with your headphones.
@@justjoeblow420 ah ok, that would make sense --then you'd be able to use a mic with any pair of regular headphones. guess I should have done a little research on DS accessories before taking a guess at it
I had one of the DS Headsets back in the day, I actually bought it for Pokemon Diamond back in the day because online battles supported Voice chat and it made it easier than playing through the speakers.
Those mini card holders that look like Zappos and hold two game carts are still made and very common in Japan. They have them for the Switch game cards in Animal Crossing and Mario themes.
The Slime Speaker was not a Japan exclusive...they sold it here in North America! I preordered it back when Dragon Quest IX came out on the original DS. I still have all the packaging, which was printed in English. The volume is controlled via the DS controls itself, just an FYI.
I love how you've been using the animal crossing wild world cartridge on a lot of your videos lately. It's my favourite game of all time ❤️and the music is so nostalgic I will never get tired of it.
The ds headset wasn't (at least idea wise) exclusive to Japan. I remember seeing them in the united states. Essentially it was a better quality microphone and speaker that allowed users far away from each other to sit in say the trade/battle room in the poke center and communicate if they were friends already. Iirc it also worked with most or all of the pokemon main series games on the ds as well as one or two of the call of duty games
Those Snoopy kennel game holders are so cool - I bet the cost more than Peanuts! So glad I did get to go to the Schultz exhibition at Somerset House in London ("Good Grief, Charlie Brown") back in 2018/9, as loaned from his family's operated Schultz museum in California. Fun fact: Charles M Schultz comics strips ran from 1950 until 2000 - a 50 year run - when he called it a day. Sadly he died shortly after.
To be fair where the Snoopy case is concerned, as a guy into old U.S comic strips it'd be one I'd probably spring for if I came across it somewhere as it scratches two of my itches: video games and the Sunday funnies. Not too many people are aware of it, but the guys keeping Peanuts going at present are also the same guys handling Beetle Bailey, Hagar the Horrible, B.C, and Wizard of iD.
Custom Robo Arena also used the headset It also did a better job of downloading stages for Bangai-O Spirits (stages were turned into audio data that had to be heard by either DS or the headset mic to be downloaded to your copy. It makes this bypass the need of NWFC)
Congrats on the purchase! And welcome to the DS family :) hope you enjoy it! PS: the DS family includes the phat DS, DS lite, DSi, DSi XL, 3DS, 3DS XL, New 3DS, New 3DS XL, 2DS, New 2DS XL

I found a Walmart selling the headset sealed just a couple years ago. I never had or needed one during the DS’ heyday, but I had to buy it when I saw it being sold new all those years later! The plastic outer packaging was all yellow and gross. It was obvious they just found it under a shelf in the back store room or something! 😂 But then I was bummed when I went to a different Walmart a few days after that, and they had a dozen of them, with non-yellowed plastic! But I wasn’t gonna buy another of an outdated accessory I’d never use. 😅
I actually have an original DS/3DS game card case that was a goodie from club nintendo around 2011-2013. You could get it for free from points you got by entering game codes online. It has the dimensions of a normal 3DS game case but slots for 18 games, 9 on each side, and also 6 interchangeable looks (3 paper sheets you can turn around). I love it and wish I could have one like this for my switch games!
I used to have that headset! So, back then, it wasn't the norm for kids to have cell phones, and parents would be annoyed that the kids were hogging up the phone lines. So my parents got me this, and my friends and I would talk to each other through Pokemon Wifi battles. It was TERRIBLE. Internet definitely what it's like today, but it was the only way we could communicate outside of Serebii chat rooms.

Oh man, you totally missed out that the stand has magnets in it. The metal bits you pointed out weren't just for weight, they're magnetic too. The gimmick is that when you used the cooking game to make a meal, you were able to mount your DS on your fridge door as you're cooking.
