Honestly, I think the reason Project 8's Create-A-Skater was so limiting was due to the game being "built from the ground up" (according to its trailer), and since THP8 had to be an annual release, all of the CAS stuff also had to be remade from scratch. Since Proving Ground was built off of Project 8's engine, they had more to work with, thus explaining why THPG has more CAS options.
@@Macrusader this game was revolutionary. People don't realize Project8 was the first PS3 and Xbox 360 game so this was the first HD skateboarding game ever! It also brought us NAIL THE TRICK which allowed the movement of the joystick to control how the board flips. @@skate1And again you don't know what you're stating as Fact lmao. Thp8 wasn't the first xbox 360 tony hawk game. American wasteland was a launch title for the x360. It was literally one of the first games for the system.
Great video brings back memories. Seeing Nyjah as a kid was wild even back then. These skating games did not have kids. Not sure why Ryan Sheckler wasn't also there since he was the same as Nyjah
Little did we know at the time that these 2 were kinda the peak and best games of the series gameplay-wise. Every other game afterwords was just peripheral-based shlock fests or remakes/remasters of older games😮💨
Another thing of note that you didn't mention: the lack of Create-A-Modes across both games (Project 8 only had Create-A-Skater, Proving Ground had CAS as well as the Rigger mode and the Skate Lounge, essentially as a Create-A-Park, and Nail A Trick/Grab/Manual all being their respective games' Create-A-Trick.).
Just bought both of these for 360 since i didnt check them out when they released. I love how they still feel like pro skater games, p8 has some optimization issues and proving grounds feels super hand holdy in the early game
PG had some good ideas that weren't executed well. It's like THUG 3 but, they were better off sticking to one big storyline rather than 3 and the open world was cool but, they should've tried 3 big maps in different parts of thr a world instead. THUG as a short 🎉 those new maps gave players a sense of progression. While we could debate gameplay mechanics, the gameplay was acceptable at the end of the day. I also feel that they should've gave players more customizations with 'create a map.' Had they done that and allowed maps to be shared online, the community would've kept the game around.
Finally someone says something! I've only ever found like 1 or 2 people asking this and the replies are " all of it is freeskate it's open world" but like I want to skate as a pro not just in the arcade cabinet for 2 min or have to play 2 player in order to do it!
@@MattCantuMusic There's THPG+ which is being made by the same guys who are making reTHAWed and that restores Free Skate mode but it's only on PS3. It's also kinda annoying to get working on real hardware which sucks, so RPCS3 is probably the way to play it.
I love THP8 and I absolutely hate THPG. THP8's difficulty is balanced, the animations look great and the lack of a story is a huge W. Don't get me wrong, I love THUG but story in a Tony Hawk game is like story in a pr0n video. I will never understand why people got so hung up about story in a Tony Hawk game. If it was up to me, I'd rather play the classic games with the 2 minute timer. Don't bother me with a mediocre story and just give me gameplay. That is what the Tony Hawk games are all about. THPG is an unbalanced mess with way too many qualifiers of getting a "Sick" ranking on goals. There are way too many goals in the first place, they made the animations less cool looking and the story is an uninteresting snore fest. Not to mention that the ranking system is completely useless in this one. There's no reason to complete goals on Sick. In Project 8, you had to get at least a 95% Sick ranking and have completed every goal to reach rank 1.
“Everything looks so drab and dull” welcome to Philly my friend lol

Nice to see someone using P8+ and PG+, cheers man great video!

I hate that proving ground didn’t have free skate

I had to hit 30 before i understood what neversoft meant
I enjoyed both games, but...gotta go with Proving Ground
Nice video. The word is similar, not simular.
SKATE had came out in 2006 and neversoft basically didn’t know what to do to anymore to compete

It came out in 06? Could’ve sworn it was 07
For these two games, I’d suggest going with the PS2 & PSP versions for Project 8 while for Proving Ground, only go with the DS version.
The Ps2 version of Project 8 is horrible. What are you on about?

Proving ground was so bad though. The whole rhythm game to push yourself forward was the worst mechanic ever.
Did you finish the game?
