This video unlocked a memory of playing American sk8land online over Nintendo ds WiFi and being amazed as a kid at how futuristic it felt going from a gameboy to playing a full tony hawk game online with strangers.
honestly i think the whole franchise was underrated, each game following the next added new mechanics to master, it felt like you were training to BE a Pro Skater.
American Wasteland is the best one. It's the ultimate Tony Hawk game, the culmination of everything Neversoft learned from years of working on the series and mastering that beat-to-death engine. The last proper original Tony Hawk title we would ever get before the series sputtered out. Best comedic tone and most interesting world. Every mode and customization option you could possibly ask for. It has something for everyone. THAW is the best one and I will die on this hill. Edit: and that SOUNDTRACK. How could I forget?
THAW is definitely not the best one. It is the most overrated Tony Hawk game of all time. Neversoft had already refined the gameplay to a T by the fourth game. There's nothing really that THAW brought to the table that wasn't already there and what it did bring was superfluous and gimmicky nonsense like the BMX. Still a good game, though. (Also, I heavily disagree with THAW being the last good one. Project 8 for the 7th gen consoles is actually one of my favorites aside from the frame rate.)
It has the most value for your dollar and nice graphics. But I have to give it to the Dreamcast version specifically of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, nothing hits the same.
It lacked a crucial element, gender selection, something that had been in the series for about as long as you could create your own skaters. Why ignore 50% of the population?
@Bukkake2023 Personally I'd switch THUG and 4 because I wasn't as huge of a fan of 4, but it's still one hell of a game regardless. I definitely played a lot more of THUG so a lot of bias edging in there.
THPS2 for the Game Boy Advance deserves it's own slot. Yes it was largely the same game but it's Isometric view and ground-up rebuild deserve so much praise.

Sk8land on the DS is an absolute belter. It’s a total throwback to the original two games on PlayStation. I poured so many hours into that game back in the day.
"Tony Hawk PS4 brought the history mode that will become a standard in the series" "Tony Hawk PS4 is in fourth for not moving things foward" Never seen such contradictory sentences so close to each other.
THPS 2 is special for sure. It's probably the one the most people played as the original blew up with the demo discs, had a huge install base through word of mouth but by the time enough word spread the second game was already on the way/out in stores. And there's something about the slower engine with all of it's jank and it all still controls surprisingly well. Making it nostalgia personified because it's one of the few you can go back to and feel it truly is every bit as good as you remembered.
I played the THPS demo to death with my brother, but we never got the game. Then when we played the demo for THPS2, we loved it so much that we just had to save up to get it. Many happy hours spent playing it, and just as you said, it's one of the very few games that when I play again today (I'm not generally a fan of retro, going back can kill fond memories!) it feels just as good as it did back then! We later moved on to THUG when we upgraded to a PS2, another very strong game in the franchise, although with a completely different feel to it compared to THPS2, I'm not sure THUG today has the same replayability that THPS2 does.
The story mode is trash and the missions are as well. Wasteland is so overrated and I get why it is because that was the next generations 1st tony hawk game.
@@BrawlinEntertaintment2K you must be sniffing something if you think they’re overrated. The 1st game was is instant hit. @@MR.__G Just because THPS2 is so highly rated, doesn't mean it's actually THAT good. THPS3, THUG 1 and 2, and THAW are all much better games with far more tricks and combos to do.
Downhill Jam for Wii is underrated, I played through that game like 11 times or so & eventually got a Gold on every mission, & beat at least the easy Staff Ghost (the second level of staff Ghosts were ridiculous on some levels). Easy to pick up, hard to master, basic yet fun, great music.
@@JohnnyVee007 It's story is kinda dumb by today's standards, but it has the best gameplay in the entire series, and in a series that is all about the gameplay, that stands for a lot.
@planescaped oh the story is VERY of its time, but the ability to walk around, sticker slap, the tighter controls, natas spin, tag, etc. It was a real beaut'
I'll never forget the fall of 1999. I was in tenth grade and Tony Hawk 1 was traded and talked about amongst my school. We shared tips, tricks, cheat codes and stories about the alien stage. Also Tony Hawk American Wasteland is criminally underrated. It took everything that made Underground 1-2 great and turned it on its head. While I prefer Underground 2, Wasteland deserves respect. And a higher spot on the list (lower than Project 8? nah)
Honestly I loved proving ground. Most difficult game in the franchise, but had the most features and gimmicks in the whole series. Loved the level design and it wasn’t as glitchy or dropped the frame rate when you traveled from area to area like in thp8 and American wasteland. Severely underrated. Finally getting a sick rating on hawk man and line challenges and seeing your gamertag in the top 10 global rankings was super rewarding
I've never been a skateboarding fan, but I got dozens of hours out of American Skateland. It was so much fun. I also remember getting pumped when Holiday by Green Day came on 🤣
Tony hawk underground 2 is the best in my opinion, best soundtrack, maps are amazing, I know the story is lackluster but I loved the viva la bam/jackass vibes really capture the early 2000s well

Not sure if I missed it but I did double check the THUG2 entry, was there any mention of THUG2 Remix on PSP? It was mostly the same game but it has some great additions and was an amazing game to be squeezed into the handheld.
There was not. They also completely ignored including 2X as well as 1+2 remake. No idea why as all of those games should be considered in a list as they are not the same as the originals.
They mentioned 1+2. I love the Xbox and PSP games, but they don't deserve a separate entry if we're throwing the part 3 games in with the 6th gen version.
Genuinely, 1+2 should have been on this for not being a remake but a full reboot of the THPS series. Where does it land on the list? Gamers deserve to know!
THPS2 was one of if not, the very first games that I ever played. I still have my original copy for the Gameboy Advance and since then, I have gotten it for every single system that it's come out on CIB, even the Mac version, the Pocket PC version and even 2x for the original Xbox. There's no other game like it and even if it is completely nostalgia driven, it's such an important game to me and one that I hold so much love for today. Side Note: I have a guilty pleasure in liking THPS on the GameBoy Color. I know it's bad but I used to have so much fun in the halfpipe mode and I'd try so hard to beat the races even though I still hadn't grasped the controls all that well
THUG will always be my favourite in the series. The story mode was a welcome change to the arcade style of the Pro Skater series but, what made this, was the soundtrack which even by todays standards, was not just eclectic but also huge.

I remember playing Tony Hawk Pro skater 3 when I was a kid. The soundtrack and that snow map is ingrained into my memory. I remember a hobo was on there too 😭😭😭😭
Underground is still my favorite, and why, oh why, did they remove essential elements from the character creator in later games, like GENDER selection?
THPS is not only an outstanding game, but it introduced me to The Suicide Machines with their song "New Girl" on it. They have been one of my all-time favorite bands ever since.

Tony Hawk's Underground 1 still holds up very greatly despite being over 20 years old. If any Tony Hawk's game could ever be remastered Id want THUG 1 more than any other game in the series.
putting the first pro skater game over any of it's sequels up through THUG is just nostalgia bait. It's a landmark title and the beginning of the series but it's janky and does NOT hold up over time. Tony Hawk: Ride IS playable if instead standing, you sit on the board controller. It makes the game MUCH easier. Which probably feels a bit insulting to actual skaters. Works for me though. I'd much rather sit than stand. It's the perfect game for ... skaters with arthritis?
I'm sorry, but Tony hawks pro skater 3 and 4 on ps1 are too different from the then current gen to be clumped together with those titles And no Tony hawks pro skater 2x ??
I would be hard pressed to place the original THPS anywhere in the top 5 lol. I grew up with it, but that game didn't age well. It would be under Thug2, then whatever is considered above that lol.
The saddest thing is that after TH4 I've not even played or even heard of most of these 🫣 such a shame as they really found a niche but as usual with so many franchises they got too greedy and decided quantity over quality was the way forward. I mean if a great Tony Hawk came out tomorrow most of us would steer well clear as we wouldn't believe it 😢
Really should have found a better video source for the wasteland video, seeing that username the whole time is very problematic and disappointing from TJ
Tony hawk american wasteland is so underrated. The reaosn so many people say that’s the best one is cuz even with how easy a lot of it was and ya the concepts were a bit eh, its engine and nifty glitches, and combos and skill ceiling were far beyond any of the other titles. You combos people pulled off in that game while still maintaining the difficulty in pulling off those combos were perfectly balanced. Insanity. Other ones were to limiting or to easy in that regular. But ya the story was WAY to easy.
I could definitely argue for Downhill Jam being higher up on the list! The Wii controller was responsive enough to make that game very fun. Great locations and massive maps too! Not a bad game at all. 👍
The draaaagging out of extra syyyyylables, especially when it comes to voooowels was truly grating on the ears on this video. Otherwise solid list, anyone that’s played the series knew how the top 5 was gonna shake out based on Metacritic scores alone. I agree that THPS2 was incredible for the time but if we put overall quality and features into the mix, it is not number one. So many things were added to the series over time that THPS just doesn’t stand up as well to others, namely being able to geeeet offfff of your boooooard and the story moooode. Love you guys, just offering constructive criticism.
Well the issue is that this video was going off metacritic scores where Pro Skater 2 was rated 98/100 on metacritic which honestly people like these shouldn't always take metacritic as gospel if that were the case then Last of Us 2 is a good game then XD
I feel story mode and having to talk to people before doing the objective, ruined the games. Add bigger better levels, and stick to the formula. The timer might have to go.
Yeah, i never understood it. I skated, but never got into the SKATE games. They felt like Guitar Hero. Why would i want to pretend, when i can go outside and actually do it?
I lost interest in watching this video the moment you said the recent remake would not be included. I feel it was different enough that it deserved to be in the list. In the future when you guys realize how stupid it was to exclude it from the list and remake this video I might give it a chance.
People who put Pro Skater 2 over 3 are genuinely regarded. It's literally just nostalgia and nothing more. Pro Skater 3 is objectively better in almost every way.
I agree, except the Dreamcast version of THPS2 which most people probably aren't aware of is the best and is imo so good that it's slightly ahead of THPS3 but THPS3 on Gamecube would absolutely be my second place choice.
I also don't understand how you guys can ignore 1+2, which is definitely a game that is different than the originals enough to be part of a list, as well as completing excluding 2X for some reason, which is also different enough. You also made a typo for THPS 3 and put the game as coming out in (2015).
I feel bad for the tiny hawk series. I watched from the beginning and every time they made a game people would get mad "do something different, this is boring" so they did. Then they got "this is not skateboarding, put it back the way it was" so they did. Then it was back to "this is boring. Do something different". They couldn't win. It's a skateboarding game. What did people expect? Even the skate series had trouble keeping things unique and that series was amazing! It's like any sports game series. You can't change it too much or you'll piss off the fans, you can't do nothing because you'll piss off the fans. What are you supposed to do?
Thanks so much for watching, everyone! What's your favourite Tony Hawk game? Or perhaps just as importantly, which one has the best soundtrack?
3 was a personal favourite for me definitely the best soundtrack behind american wasteland!
Tony Hawk Underground will forever be the best
Best soundtrack for sure has to go to THPS 1+2 and THUG2. 🤌

Tony Hawk: Ride IS playable if instead standing, you sit on the board controller. It makes the game MUCH easier. Which probably feels a bit insulting to actual skaters. Works for me though. I'd much rather sit than stand. It's the perfect game for ... skaters with arthritis?
I'm sorry, but Tony hawks pro skater 3 and 4 on ps1 are too different from the then current gen to be clumped together with those titles
And no Tony hawks pro skater 2x ??
I would be hard pressed to place the original THPS anywhere in the top 5 lol. I grew up with it, but that game didn't age well. It would be under Thug2, then whatever is considered above that lol.
"And number 1 ...... Skate 2" lol
The saddest thing is that after TH4 I've not even played or even heard of most of these 🫣 such a shame as they really found a niche but as usual with so many franchises they got too greedy and decided quantity over quality was the way forward. I mean if a great Tony Hawk came out tomorrow most of us would steer well clear as we wouldn't believe it 😢
why is pro skater 5 as high as high as it is
As an avid gamer and skateboarder this was a pleasant surprise from triplejump
Really should have found a better video source for the wasteland video, seeing that username the whole time is very problematic and disappointing from TJ
I find your username very problematic and disappointing.
Good video! American wasteland is better than project 8 tho >:)
Oh yeah,here we go...list time!
Wheres Ashton? I haven't watched in a while, did she leave or something?
I understand the reasons why you chose this order but it has to be THUG > THPS3 > THPS4 > THUG2 > THAW as the top 5 for me
Every Mortal Kombat from worst to best
The timer might have to go.
wtf? american wasteland should at least be in the top 5
I still say best video game series of all time. I started skating in about 1997. THPS1 came it when I was 12. Most perfect timing ever.
Skate basically killed Tony Hawk games for me and my group of friends who basically all skated.
Yeah, i never understood it. I skated, but never got into the SKATE games. They felt like Guitar Hero. Why would i want to pretend, when i can go outside and actually do it?
American Wasteland and the THUG games are top 3. Fight me.
I fully agree with you, sad that THUG 2 and THAW get lots of hate.
Also THPS1 and THPS2 are overrated. THPS3 and 4 are better than those games.
You're really critical of a lot of these games when most of them are full of positives
Yeah I'm with you there. Once I played 3, it made 2 feel archaic to go back to. The levels and the revert alone make 3 leagues better than 2
I agree, except the Dreamcast version of THPS2 which most people probably aren't aware of is the best and is imo so good that it's slightly ahead of THPS3 but THPS3 on Gamecube would absolutely be my second place choice.
I also don't understand how you guys can ignore 1+2, which is definitely a game that is different than the originals enough to be part of a list, as well as completing excluding 2X for some reason, which is also different enough. You also made a typo for THPS 3 and put the game as coming out in (2015).
Downhill Jam GBA is so ugly. I love it.
i cant hear what peter is doing with his voice now without laughing.
for me, Thug2 is a spectacular game and more fun than even the first underground. also, good video
“THUG 1 had wallplant but THUG2 had sticker slap”
the 1+2 remake were very much their own game imo, very very improved and good fun, but hey ho.
THPS3 (not on PS1) is the best, no one will change my mind.
3, 4, or THUG1 could all be considered best
