I had the exact same problem with my 2009 Odyssey. My mechanic did his diagnosis and at first thought it was a bad socket, but replacing it didn't help. He eventually thought there was an issue with the fuse box multiplexer that would have to be programmed by the dealership. I wasn"t convinced and showed him your video and asked him to checkout the grounding point. A couple of the wires broke when removing the screw, but he soldered the broken wires and heat wrapped them and used some dielectric grease on the contacts and PRESTO, my front right turn signal is working again. Thanks again for the great video!
This video really helped me diagnose my ford 2011 Escape right turn signal issue. The issue was a dirty connector between my aftermarket trailer wiring harness and original connector. I was able to spray some WD40 on those connections and oh what a relief, it worked. I did use the diagnostic techniques in this video to test the connections without and then with the after market trailer wiring connector and pinpointed the problem once I removed the aftermarket CURT trailer wiring harness. Just be patient and you'll succeed. Thank you and God bless.
Very helpful. Thank you. BTW if anyone is wondering, this ground connection is located in the front close to the radiator. And in my case, it was not the turn signal, but the high beam right headlight that did not work.
Great video! On some GM cars I've owned; I've found the bulb receptacle "loosens" and I have successfully squeezes the metal clips in them tighter and that solves the "burned out" or "non-working" phenomenon!!
Thanks for making this video and going through the diagnosis. Just had the same issue on our 08 Odyssey and ordered a new relay, which did not solve the problem before finally finding your video. Almost considered getting the whole front wiring harness, but that would have been an expensive and time consuming solution. Thanks, again, for sharing and saving a lot of time and headaches!
One of the better video's on RUclips. It was also good to note that you need to use a battery negative rather than a chassis ground when chasing continuity and voltages. Great job!
Great! Will try this in my car which acts very weird with regards to my headlights, fog light and signal light. One minute it works then the next minute it doesnt. Losing "earth" is a very logical diagnosis which I didnt think of. Appreciate you doing this and helping us novice DIYers :)
Sir THANK YOU!!!!!!! I found your video extremely helpful! I had blinkers working only when lights were off. When I turned my lights on no blinkers at all. I found that same bolt. It was finger touch loose!! All i did was throw a socket on and tighten mine up and BOOM! Blinkers!!!! You were a big help sorry it took you all day because only took me about 10 minutes.. LOL I owe you a a few beers..
Thank you, thank youuuu!!!. I have this problem right now, and you have saved me a headache and so much money. I thought I had to bring it to the dealer, knowing they would charge me an arm and leg, knowing I could just do it myself 😊.
I have the same problem with a rear turn signal on my 2006 Tacoma and on my 2011 Camry. I couldn’t figure it out, until now. You’re a genius! Thanks so much. Awesome! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Buck, I have the same problem with a 2002 Toyota Camry. I haven't found the ground wire yet but I wanted to leave a thank you before I loose this post.
Great. Hope you get it resolved easily. NJ inspection used to check everything....blinkers, lights, brakes, horn, everything. Now they look at your paperwork, plug in a scan tool to make sure the check engine light is not illuminated, verify you've got a catalytic converter....and that's about it.
I’m super grateful that you made this video. I had the exact problem. Followed your solution and it was the exact same thing. Good bulb bad ground. Thank you!
THANK YOU! My 2006 Odyssey right blinker has suffered the same fate. I suspect I have a couple bad grounds on that side as the indicator light is out as well. I have also confirmed the bulbs are good but still no illumination. Now I know where to find that illusive ground connection. Thanks for taking the time to film, edit & post.
I don’t have a Honda but 2013 Kia Sorento- thought putting in new bulb would solve my rapid blink problem- didn’t work! Thought I would have to take it to electrical mechanic shop but searched and found your video. Looked for ground wire on body but it was shared with horn that works. My directional bulb goes into a socket with contacts that rotate into place. Looking at socket the ground contact looked a little bent so adjusted it and rotated back into headlight housing and it works. Thanks for setting me on the right path even if it wasn’t the exact same fix!
Awesome video! Tnx. I’ll try that as I have a similar issue. Works ok on hazard flash but not on one side. Already replaced bulbs and flasher relay and was stumped until I found this vid
awesome video, it helped me get and idea why my blinkers (front and rear) are not working at all, sometimes they do and sometimes they don’t.. i’ll try to give it a try thanks again 🙏
Thank you and now I know I’m not going crazy.. I’ve changed the bulb three times this year on the same light signal passenger side and I literally just bought a new light period. I put it in and the very next day on a brand spanking new light it did it too. So of course something else is causing this problem. So thx so much for this video and it looks like it’s going to be a shop fix because I certainly don’t know that much about cars so I definitely wouldn’t try to take any wires loose to diagnose.. But at least I can stop taking my bumper off to get to this lamp just to replace a bulb. 2005 SRX 👍🏻😊♥️
I am having the same problem with my Hyundai Veloster, teh left blinker keeps fast blinking, the bulb is good. I will do this, thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Excellent vid, I have the same problem with my 05 Odyssey, thanks for sharing it. I will be looking at those ground wires, tried the new bulb on the LT side signal worked fine so it's not the RT side signal bulb. My fender liner is missing on the RT side, I'm almost certain the negative ground will be corroded 👍🏽
Great job. Honda needs to do something about those ground connectors that are open to the outside weather elements. Especially with the lights which could be grounded closer to the light reflectors and more out of the corrosive salt and water elements.
Cadillac does too. Because my 2005 SRX has the exact same problem looks like.. All I know is I’m tired of changing bulbs.. It’s a challenge to get to the bulb period on these cars. This is the blinker and fog lights lower that’s quite a bit of work just to change a bulb. The head light lamp is a bit easier though.. But that blinker is WORK!! 😂🤣
Thank you for the great film. It was especially useful for me, though I accidentally disconnected the grounding, and it was in a totally different place. I found it!! And what it was, I removed the headliner board for re[placing the upholstery on it, and disconnected the wire to the ceiling lens. The shop manual (I fortunately have for that car 2001 Saturn SL2) advised to attach those wires w/scotch tape, so I disconnected it fm/the plug by the rear window. The plug was sitting on a thin plate, which I assumed was there for keeping the plug in correct place. After I did some research and watching this film I've learned that grounding could cause Turning Signals go off. The Manual showed 2 grounding wires on the rear close to that plug. There was a clip on the plug, metal one. I disconnected the grounding there, so even w/plug in the T S-ls didn't work of course. It might be helpful for someone else. Pls check the grounding as well if you have a problem w/T Signals and the fuse is fine. I was about to replace the Steering Column Switch, and actually ordered one already (so will have a spare now, not bad thing though). Thank you again for pointing out on Grounding connections. Update 1: Now everything is working w/that clip off or on, so it was not the ground connection, just a mounting clip. I'm completely lost and don't know what was the problem before. Maybe still the Steering Column Switch. The car was sitting for a long time, probably smth got corroded inside of that Switch and after several shifts back and force it is gone.
Thanks for posting this. I snapped off a marker light while changing headlights and I think there is still debris from the busted lamp in the socket. I am still blinking fast.
Great video, my indicator light won’t turn on and the turn signal blinks fast . There’s 2 different filaments . It’s not the bulb, I replaced the bulb and same problem. Checked the bulb continuity for double assurance. Are you not afraid that the other grounds are going to fail??
I’m glad I found this video my friend has the same issue. And when u said about turn signal blinking at different speed inside the car I just realized that I did heard the difference. But did not paid attention to it. Now that u said if I will be checking fuses. And also the turn signal in his just stays on so it’s def not bulb issue. But now if it’s not fuses or relays. Then I hope the body shop that fixed fender and bumper and replaced the headlight didn’t accidentally messed with wiring.
thanks for your video , i thought it was a bad ground since it seams the headlights blink funny when i put the bulb in and instead of going under the car i might try to splice the ground at the turn signal and just ground it somewhere above and thanks again for your video
Thanks for sharing this. I have a similar problem on a 2000 Tundra but the left turn signal only flashes faster when I step on the brake. The truck had a camper shell with turn signals and brake lights and the wiring was installed by the installation team at the place I purchased it from. If corrosion (or a wire with limited continuity) caused your problem, maybe the wires spliced into the brake and turn signal lighting are causing my issue.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I found your video while searching a problem with the turn signal on my 2006 Honda Pilot. When I use the left turn signal to make a short left turn the signal does not always cancel when completing the turn. The left signal does cancel on a longer turn of the wheel. The right signal cancels after both a shallow and deep turn. I replaced the flasher switch arm but it made no difference. Would appreciate any suggestions. Best regards. 😊
I'm pretty sure the mechanism that turns off the signal after a turn is located inside the steering column, and would require removing the steering wheel to access it. Possibly more trouble than it's worth.
Very nice video and explanation! I have the same exact issue on my 2008 Nissan Altima The only difference is that I have this problem for both front turn signals My question is, do I have to look on the other side for that other ground wire or are they all in the same place like you showed on the video? Thanks in advance
I don't know how your vehicle is set up, or if both front turn signals share the same ground. A wiring diagram might be helpful, or an online search to see if other Altima owners have any experience with that same problem. Good luck.
I see you are over 200,000 miles. My question is how often do you drain and fill the transmission and what fluid do you use. My Odyssey is a 2007 with 200,174 miles. Engine is solid and I would like to keep it reliable as long as possible. Thanks!
@@Buckwsr This was an intermittent problem that the dealer service people couldn't diagnose because it was working when I had the car in for other service. The very next day it stopped working again (intermittently). I couldn't detect a ground through the ground side of the bulb socket. I then discovered that the bulb socket was a two piece arrangement that I was able to disconnect. It turns out that the bulb socket has two pins that plug into a wire socket. I put a small wire into the ground pin hole and reconnected the parts. Success! So far, so good after almost two days. Thanks again!
Glad I found your video, similar problem but mine is the RT rear turn signal on a 2005 Camry. Ok, now I have to find that chassis ground. Hopefully it's not hidden away to bad. Thanks again. BTW, swapping the bulbs from the working side / bad side is a good way to check the bulb without having to run out and buy a bulb that you may not need. :)
Hi there, thank you so much for taking the time and effort to figure this out, same exact problem on my 2007 odyssey, will do this procedure and hope it fix my situation. Happy 4th of July. God bless America 🇺🇸
Thank you for this video! I have pretty similar symptoms in my 2005 Odyssey. I just replaced the right turn signal bulb, but it's not working. I guess it's time to check the ground connection...
@@Buckwsr Thank you! Yesterday I did a few tests, but I'm not sure if I done it correctly. First, the bulb is working. And my socket definitely gets + voltage because when bulb is connected to the positive socket pin and to the battery negative, it works perfectly. I located the ground where you showed it, but it seemed the continuity test was fine there. I need to repeat it one more time today. Also I removed the bolt, cleaned it with metal brush and slightly played with that ground connection. It felt pretty solid. So I'll try to check it one more time later today. Worst case I'll have to run a wire directly from the negative battery terminal to that black wire going into turn signal connector.
@@yolo-cars Test to see if you have ground connection at the turn signal bulb socket. You didn't mention whether or not you did that. Supplying ground to that socket from another location is an okay solution, I think, as a last resort. Good luck.
@@Buckwsr I'll do a test later today. At least I remember I tried to hook the bulb to the positive battery terminal on one side and to the ground connection in the socket on another side, but there was no light. I assume there was no ground. I'll try to perform the continuity test of the ground later today. I want to hook negative battery terminal with that ground point on the bottom right of the car. Also I'll try to perform continuity test of that black wire itself.
Thank you for posting this video. I have the exact same problem on my 2009 Ody. I have an oil change coming up soon will tackle it then. Wish I had seen this before I bought a new relay that didn’t solve the problem and had a feeling it wouldn’t be that easy. Lol
My 16’ chevy Cruze had some electrical problems some of the fuses under the hood don’t have power to them.. i tested them. Some light up when contacted and some don’t. I replaced all the mini fuses and still not getting power when checked.. 2 of the turn signals, brake light, horn, power outlets don’t work and engine worn turn on. No crank at all. Also windows won’t roll down from front driver side and passenger, but the rear windows work only on their doors. Won’t work from the master control. But dash lights up and front lights work. Any suggestive leads to take?
My honest gut reaction to your note is that you are in way over your head and need to get some professional help to sort out this list of problems with your vehicle. Get it towed to a reputable shop. Chances are that there is one significant issue, which, once identified and resolved, will fix most if not all of these multiple electrical problems. Good luck.
I had the exact same problem with my 2009 Odyssey. My mechanic did his diagnosis and at first thought it was a bad socket, but replacing it didn't help.
Ok, Elmer, good luck with the repair. Just the way you wanted to spend your holiday, right? Fixing your car!!
Very nice video. Looking for a fix for 1999 toyota camry front blinker not working.. thank for your help
Thank you. Replaced my bulb and have no damn idea why it wasn't working. Looking into this next
07honda Odyssey. Seems to be a common issue with these
Thanks!
Very kind of you, Zeke. I really appreciate it.
Wow this is the same issue I'm having with my honda accord. I'm going to try this
Thank you for this video! I have pretty similar symptoms in my 2005 Odyssey. I just replaced the right turn signal bulb, but it's not working. I guess it's time to check the ground connection...
Thank you. Good luck getting yours fixed!
@@yolo-cars Sounds like you have a good understanding of how it works. I'm sure you will have it fixed very soon.
Good job!
Very helpful!
Great video!!
Thank you for posting this video. I have the exact same problem on my 2009 Ody. I have an oil change coming up soon will tackle it then. Wish I had seen this before I bought a new relay that didn’t solve the problem and had a feeling it wouldn’t be that easy. Lol
Good luck on the repair. Thanks for watching the video and commenting.
@@Buckwsr thank you. Yw.
Cool man, I'll have to go check this out on my S10. Thanks for the video.
Hey, thanks a lot for sharing this video it’s very helpful!
Thanks, Hugo!
Thanks buddy. Same problem
Great video
Thank you so much!
Good video because is different way. I use a power pro now. but i like this way too.
Great job, I'm still trying to figure out the issue with my flash signals on my 08 vue.
Good luck.
@@Buckwsr okay thank you! Will update when fixed.
