James D guy you should pin aaron palmer comment
his name is A Palmer
Where can i see your work. I live in hutch
James D guy what machine polisher is that
Nice job ! That came out really nice! So how many actual coats of clear?
Moore Motorsports James Dguy wtf 🙄 🏋👋👏👏👏👏👍👍nice Job 🤔✌✋🍻🍻🍻👍👍👍👍👍✌
Dude, I didn’t expect such a cool shout out. Thanks brother 👍🏻🙏
And daaaaammn that car came out good! You are an inspiration!
A Palmer wow..your name came out..congrats..
can you like my comment
Thanks for donating! This guy has awesome talent and drive!
Sup James looks super good. Id recomend to also hit it with some polish after the compound the. Itll look even way better
Always a good step to cover the trim parts with tape before you polish. Also tape up the sharp creases and panel gaps to prevent polish sticking in all the gaps.
Super impressed! Great job! Thanks so much for sharing this. I've watched some of your other videos and now I want to paint my car that has fading paint. Thanks so much!
6:10 your creating swirl marks and holograms in the paint. You should buy a polisher to remove them after the buffing.
Wow! Beautiful!
Son you are talented!
I'm more Curious to the longevity of this paint job looks really great I hope I see another video of it in a year or so to see if it has lasted
Abap Garage We won’t have it in a year wife wants to upgrade eventually but I have updates of cars I did years ago without clear coat and they held up decent so with this being 2K clear coated then it should be great!
Came out sweet bro new subscriber keep up the great work
Thank you! The end result at the end speaks volumes. I love how nice a simple spray can paint job can turn out! It just goes to show throwing the "rule book" out the window pays off sometimes. This isn't the "proper way" of doing a wet sand and buff comments are coming soon! LOL
Looks great 👍🏽
Hey,
How long do you have to wait b4 wet sanding the 2k clear?
24 hrs
Um I'm in Australia, me dinki die Aussie, it's hard to get rustolium here, what's the next best option, Amazon don't ship to Australia. Keep this in mind 😁 thanks
I can get 2x clear coat on eBay
Helen Ellsworth Well I’m kinda done plugging Rustoleum but they have a product called majic paints. Look into them not sure if they can get it there but it’s REALLY good stuff
@@JamesDguy ok, we have dupli ? Paint and metallic paint, will the 2k clear coat be fine in this paint, or not, thanks for getting back to me 😁
@@helenellsworth9556 best to test on small area first before you spray whole job
Keep in mind 2X is NOT 2K!!!
Is there a video where you painted all the trim?
Hey from Australia, lovin your vids mate! Got an 800hp falcon in the shed ive spent about 35k on and your results are that good im starting to wonder if i might give it a go myself🤞thinkin maybe the rustoleum winter grey might be the go. Id be a pretty happy camper with results like yours😉 keep up the good work mate
Thank you! Its so cool how people from all over the world are commenting and giving me their thoughts! I say DO IT! Won't know until you try and what's the worse that happens? They make sandpaper :D Try and try again! That is how i made it this far is failing.
Soak wet sand paper in water for 24 hours before use. It works much better. Also when buffing use masking tape on the ridges so you don’t accidentally burn through then peal it off and do them last. It’s not hard to do them by hand. Any high dollar car I do I will tape up ridges and hand finish them. Most of the time I just hit them with the buffer last after the rest of the car is done. Great videos. I have been painting cars since 92. I am super impressed with your spray can jobs.
Actually the opposite you never soak it in the water for a long for a long. Of time because the Sandpaper will fall apart and it will lose its coarseness so it's generally useless are you wasting your money
I’m a professional painter, and this is a damn good job man!
Micheal Plummer Thank you for not being the typical I’m a painter comment! I appreciate it!! They usually lead with I’m a painter but your an idiot bla bla bla
James D guy Na, the “typical” painter that says that more than likely can’t shoot a car to save their life. So they are now mad because you produced quality results with a rattle can.
@@JamesDguy while there are tons of haters on the internet, dismissing somebodys comment when your work is substandard doesnt make their observations disappear. While this paint job is ok, its not great. And its not finished. The paint itself was put on fairly decent, time will tell if it was allowed to properly flash, or if the coats were too thick, but the paint looks passable. The issue with this particular video was the cutting of corners on the sanding, which wouldnt be a big deal, IF you buffed it with 3 compounds... but you barely did 1. And i paint guitars now, but painted cars for many years before. I would have got fired for that quality. And i can absolutely spray a car with rattle cans. Did many cars with spray bombs. I do most guitars with spray bombs. This is an example of cutting corners, not quality work. What separates quality from half-assed work is the ability to just keep working, and the ability to see what still needs to be done
And if youre a professional painter and you didnt see the dull patches as long as your leg on this finish, then you work for maaco.
@@bryanharrison3889 Jeez- way to fuck a guys awesome effort! Why don't you offer advice instead of just ragging dude? We can all worship at your feet another time 🤣
after picking through several of your videos you sir have single handedly given me the confidence to paint my own truck I'll let you know how it turns out
How did it turn out? 😁
@@prodbypablopaul pretty damn good little bit of orange peel showing around the cab corners but that’s all not professional but way better than if I’d taken it to Maaco like I planned
I thought, this guy sucks, look at those big scratches he left, then I realized they were from my cracked phone screen! 😂
If you aren't good at welding be good at grinding.
If you aren't good at painting be good at sanding.
Who else reads all the comments and is excited to see James D guy growing his audience?

Lol I'm very curious on what people say so I'm guilty

Phenomenal job brother
Keep up the good work
An great uploads 👌
James........... W.O.W!!!,,, just WOW!
You produced a showroom finish from rattle cans and buffing. You need Rustoleum to sponsor you my friend!!! GREAT JOB!!! 👍👍
☆Jay☆.
Definitely time consuming, but very well worth it! You did an amazing job 💯💯👌
GT's Performance It is and thank you for commenting man! Hope you gain the subs you deserve for sure! Keep up the great work I watch your videos for sure.
Thank you! I have been waiting for this!!!! 20k here we come!!!
Just came across your channel the other last night. Just got finished watching some more. After being quoted 16K for a paint job on a 05 mazda, I decided to do the job myself. Thanx for the great channel!
After spraying the 2k clear, how long did you wait to sand down /buff ?
Somewhere somebody said 7 days. Should be in the 2k clear coat docs, I'm too lazy to look ... Their website is the worst.
How has this lasted? Been a couple of years. Has it cracked or crazed at all?
I found that using a ton of soap in the water makes for way less scratching and a way better finish for buffing! Use more soap! And it looks more dope idk lol!
Looks great! Few tips, start with a wool cutting pad will make quick work of the job, then switch to a foam, use a polish after the compound. Or a wax then a polish. Could start with a 1500. Then go to a 2k and a smaller pad would help you work the tool, you not really comfortable with the buffer, it takes time but it will be your third hand some day. Then you will try and make someone else do it lol
Came out nice. Was thinking the same on all points. It was killing me to see him angling the buffer on edge like that.
Wet sanding really is the cherry on top for any paint job...I doubt even a professional would be able to figure out it was shot from a can. Awesome work! Really impressed with the end result.
Now you need to restore the black plastic trim with a heat gun
04dram04 Doing then with bedliner out of the gun.
Definitely hit the trim and bumper with plastic restore or some black paint!
You should take it out to a car meet or something and see what people think of it! With it being out of a can. Or if they can even till lol...
SRT_backyard_garage !! That’s a great idea. Maybe Interview people
Not all hero’s wear capes your sir are a hero 🙌🏽
Can't believe you at 20k subs I remember when you use to race your corolla around and drift your vans you only had a few hundred subs then you came so far keep it up bro
Midwest Jdm Oh man yea that was soooo long ago!!!
Great video. I just hope you are gonna do something with the ashy black trim...shouldnt be to hard to restore with trim dressing..
Ken Rivers Going to be doing the black in bed liner out of the gun and will have a video.
The paint looks great! Time to spruce up those black trim pieces. 😉
When removing orange peel would it be better to wet sand the paint to remove the orange peel before applying clearcoat? When doing so after applying clearcoat you're removing the orange peel and the protective clearcoat which defeats the purpose of applying clearcoat to begin with....
I was thinking the same thing honestly
Yeah I was thinking the same thing
Orange peel is from the clear, even if you sand before you clear it , you can still get orange peel once you clear it
@@joaquin0023 So once the corrections are made to the paint reapply the clearcoat?
@@steeldragon9701 if by paint you mean the clear coat, then you could probably add more clear but there’s still a chance of getting orange peel, in order to get minimal orange peel you would have to have a professional do it, even then you can still have some orange peel but doing a 2000 grit wet sand won’t hurt the protection that much as long as the clear isn’t too thin
This is like the show roadkill. They always say they will show you how to do the wrong thing, the right way. Honestly thought I was about to watch some hack do some even more hack work but honestly, these are very good and extremely helpful videos. Keep up the good work!
For future projects use Mcguires M-105 to buff and m-205 to polish.
What you used is good for a fast buff job but it has fillers in it and only fills light scratches and imperfections temporarily, m105 buffing compound actually gets rid of the imperfections and scratches and uses NO fillers.
I just did my integra type r with spray cans and buffing, I’ll post it in couple days.
Randizle Peregoy awesome and thanks for the tip!
Please continue with these types of videos, they're amazing.
So you painted the car and then sprayed with 2k clear coat then how long did you leave it for before you do this? Also after you sanded it did you use the polishing product? Thank you very impressive I’m tryna paint two cars corvette 1984 and a 2000 crown Vic... so any tips are appreciated
Let’s say I get orange peal on base coat do I just paint over that with 2k clear or do I sand and buff before the 2k clear. I’m new here and want to spray paint my own car lol it’s an 1994 integra
In the last part he painted over it with the 2k clear and then he does the wet sand and buff
That’s called color sanding. They do that on show cars and stuff. Go over the base with your clear and the knock that down smooth like this guy is doing. It won’t matter if the base has orange peel
@@BlueOceanRoss Can you buff by hand and still make it look like this video?
Wet sand the base coat smooth with 800g than 1000g and 1500g only if you have patients.. Than clear coat. Wet sand clear if you sprayed a bit rough and gave lots orange peel.. Great spraying significantly reduces final orange peel..
Just a buffing tip,try to find SM Arnold cool-it foam pads, they have more side foam material and have cooling slots in the face of the pad, also try not to go at 45 degree while buffing @6:00,, ,it can induce more heat and swirling. Good job otherwise.
Hey, I was planning on painting my mustang base off your videos, but found out were in the same area of Ks. I was wondering how much you would charge for painting it for me?
Saibernaut Depends color some are harder then others for sure but usually 500 you supply materials
@@JamesDguy an email I can reach you at?
When using the rustoleum 2x as a base coat, how long do you recommend waiting to put the 2k clear on? I use to never have issues painting but lately every time I try and paint something I always get a reaction and the paint starts to shrink when i put clear on. Would it help more if I just waited 24 hours until I put the clear on?
oj jones Glad you asked that question since I was thinking the same thing. I was wondering if I can wait 24-48 hours before applying the 2k clearcoat or has to be applied minutes after the base coat
As a body guy i wouldnt wait mor than an hour after ur last coat...if the base drys u will have to resand with. At least 1500 before u do clear it othere wise its like painting on something with no prep...the clear will then flake off in time might look good for a bit but itll show eventually. Hope this helps!
Richard Bumpus
Thanks for the response
I’m just scared if I try to apply it to quick it’s gonna react because it’s rustoleum. I wouldn’t be worried if it was actual automotive basecoat
@@ojjones4727 like i said no more than an hour and thats still pushing it automotive paint u can clear after 5 minutes in a heated booth after an hour the spray paint will be to hard to grab the clear u want it not to be soft but still tacky
Any chance you have updates on how this is holding up? Thanks! Soon I'll be home and able to start working on my car and I'm definitely leaning towards Rust-Oleum and now most likely speedokote clear I just have to twi$t my wife's arm into letting me buy a compressor but now that I think about it all the cans of spraymax 2k clear I'd need would probably cost what a compressor would lol
how many cans of base and clear coat did you need?
To be fair it’s one of the best rattle can finishes on RUclips
Keep up the good work
Awsome job James!! Looks great cheers from Portland Oregon!!
Im thinking ure a proffesional acting to be a newbie cuzz damn that paint job is good
He has done spraycan for MANY year's
If I paint my car with orange rust oleum rattle can do I have to wet sand it before I put on the clear coat???
Justin Weiss you may not need to fully wet sand, but any sanding you do to knock down high spots and generally flatten your overall paint will make your clear coat go on smoother which will reduce the amount of wet sanding you need to do on the clear.
I wouldn’t unless you have very bad orange peel
Shouldn't you follow up the compound with a polish to remove compound leftover marring?
Yes
Just found your channel didnt know spray paint could look so good im going to give this a try thanks for sharing brother
I hit my clear with 1200 then 1500 then 2000. Then I hit it with a cut polish (2000G equivalent) then fine and then swirl remover....tan pad first, yellow pad second and black pad last...then some speed way and a HUGE bill to the owner (never me). My prices start at $900 for a cut and buff of factory paint and go up from there. I have recleared about 100 vehicles over factory paint with euro clear and show buffed from there...flat as glass...BUT looks like PUKE with the slightest scratch....careful; what you wish for.
A nice job! how long did you let clearcoat dry before standing and what speed did you use on your buffer.
I really like the pink and black. The pink reminds me of "panther pink," an old Mopar muscle car color. Would look hot on a new Challenger with black RT stripes. Very interesting and informative video
How long did it take you to wet sand it real time?
It’s crazy how nice that came out! I didn’t think the paint would look so smooth and with a mirror shine too! Spray cans have definitely come a long way. Nice job.
Man thanks a lot bro I love all your videos Learned a lot from watching your videos thanks a lot and great job
Thank you for the support!
Impresive job man , this is amazing for real it takes a lot of work but you show all of us that we can save a lot of $ by doing it this way ourselves at home , blessings 👍🏽
That’s so crazy that you paint the car with a spray can. And it looks so amazing. I might try this out with my car. Awesome video!
Great work. How long should we leave the 2k clear coat to dry before the 2000 Grit is used?
Let it dry at least 15 hrs. I usually sand at that point and its amazing. With a fan on it of course to help the chemicals release and dry faster
Depends on the weather...
Why do we need to wet sand? What if we leave it without sanding?
@@PradeepKumar-ps4cs You do not have to wet sand. Wetsanding is to remove orange peel from the paint if you so choose.
Your videos make me want to go out and paint all my family's cars and trucks. Can you do a video on like rhino lining or a similar diy liner. Your doing great and hope to see more.
gizmo death I will be doing it and yes have a few videos in bed lining vehicles and such.
If your Wife and Kids Love it, that's all that matters. Cool video, Good job. 📸😎📸🍻

HI
IM wondering how long did the “SPARY MAX 2K CLEAR” Last on the car? This video is 4 years old.
Is the clear still lasting and in good condition? Does it still look amazing?
Thanks for posting this video and may God bless and guide you!
Terrell Williams Thank you 🙏🏻
Dam boy that is looking good . Definitely takes time . Looks super good . Keep it up
time to bring that black trim up to scratch.
Wow that came out real nice!!! Now you just need that dang window molding and you good!
Very nice job, how long do wait before you wet sand ( let the paint cure )
Amazing work! Hi James & Kaci! God bless you both too!
Looks good. Proves to those auto body spray gun premadonnas that rattle cans can provide a nice out come.
Looks great! Ty for sharing and contributing to changing the world
Looks awesome ! How long did you let the clear cure before you did this?
U wanna use half side of the pad not the whole thing. Also since its fresh paint use a glaze not wax, u can wax it in about 30-60 days depending on your weather.
I'm super pumped up about painting my car after watching your videos, I just need to get a big enough canopy tent ⛺ and I'm all set
Any luck?
Bro you hit up harbor freight. Good job. All the supplies I use as well. Thanks for the update. My ultimate goal is to 2k clear with rattle cans. Love the work
Best rattle can job I’ve seen in my life that’s crazy
You done a heck of a job, unbelievable with some hard work and some rattle cans.... and some talent too 👍
Professional painters are going to hate this video...but us DIY individuals love it. Fantastic stuff!
Through My Eyes Thank you and I agree they hate 99% of everything I do. They bash me all the time but yet I’m doing something with my life instead of having others do it for me. That has to account for something.
I hadn't seen him paint it with spray cans I wouldn't believe that result. Good fukin job👌👌
$10,000 paint job
On older vehicles its nice to have an affordable option to improve it's appearance. When a professional paint job costs more than the car's value, its not even an option for most people. Good job! 2K clear will protect that paint for years to come.
Do you call that rig, “pepto abysmal”?
Who ever gives this a thumbs down is crazy! This is a awesome diy spray can paint job. Keep it up.
I think once you apply polish and wax. It will look amazing!
Raymond Nguyen I have since applied meguires polish and it does look amazing but now it’s snowing so -_-
How many cans of paint and 2k would you need for a kia rio?
about 10
How many cans of 2k max clear coat did u use? Im planning on doing this myself and want to preorder everything i need. Thanks
I to want to know how many cans of spraymax 2k clear you used in your last video you said it had one coat of clear for the 1 can ? You said you was going to wet sand and give it another coat of clear
I just sent a gift, it's extremely small but you have my drive that I used to have and I'm going to try and get my motivation back by watching your video. Like most people I know I never really had much until I was about 27-28 and those first 12 years working on my cars was hell. We were always trying to do the most with the least amount of material and equipment. And these videos just remind me of myself in the past trying to make a dollar out of 15 cents, or trying to make a nice paint job with a handful of spray cans and some soap and sand paper and a bottle of Maguire and a shop rag... Luckily I have been able to stay out of trouble and off drugs and booze and work hard to get to where I feel a bit more comfortable in my Mid 30's. Not doing great but good enough to know you deserve a bit more just by watching your drive and ambition during your RUclips projects. Good luck in future and don't take the negative comments to heart, they are watching YOU do something cool.
KillaCaff1 Thank you and I appreciate it!! The haters are just mad because they are sitting at home doing nothing while I’m trying to make something of myself. They just make me more motivated to do more so they are defeating the purpose of their hate comments lol
KillaCaff1 If it’s caffery brewing then I posted in the community thanking you!
@@JamesDguy yes, that's my PayPal thanks, keep up the good vidyas!

I'm really liking these videos! I'll be picking up a used car in the next few months, and have been looking around for DIY solutions so I can give proper love to an older car if required. My budget is low, but I don't mind putting in time to make a vehicle look like it should. Excellent work. God Bless You, my friend.

Dang man your dam Wizard!
So buffing the car gets rid of the orange peels correct?
Yes it will .
DopeyAlex i thought he wet sanded over the orange peel to get rid of it. ???
For me, the 2k ended up to be a complete waste of money. The nozzles constantly got clogged, and the finish didnt stay at all, AND, it was not at all smooth.
sounds like you suck at painting then aha
You always make it look easy.
Danyell 101 Gotta love the power of editing to make it look easy lol
Thank You for the great video. I too am doing a spray can paint job. Engine bay and exterior with custom door panels, this is all done by spray can. What I was looking at is how do I get that great shine. I know now, 2K spray clear.
Hey James, how many coats of clear coat did you apply?
christian dayrit Sadly i didn’t have a lot of clear so I only did 2 thick coats. But still holding up to this very day. Just got picture updates
Where can I see the pic updates?
