I feel like Powerhouse and CN City aren't rivals, but CN City is an evolution of Powerhouse.
The Powerhouse bumpers had the characters outside their shows doing other things for the most part, CN City took it to a whole other level by letting these characters who were initially siloed in their separate shows and universes, and gave them all one central hub.
CN City is no doubt a prime era for CN, but to me the powerhouse era is the most nostalgic so I gotta give it the top spot. Can't wait for the CN City recap.
CN City can not seriously be considered one of the top eras of cartoon network?
Powerhouse was easily the peak. CN City was the twilight years that were still good but clearly not as good as powerhouse
@@thesummaryguy3911 I agree. I think most people who say that CN City was the peak, missed out on the Powerhouse era or they started watching late in the Powerhouse era when the era was phasing out. CN City was a great follow-up to Powerhouse, but Powerhouse had the better variety of programming.
@quentinfaison2826 The CN City era mostly rode off the coattails of the Powerhouse era. None of the originals from that era aside from Foster's and Ben 10 stood out, and Toonami was moved from Weekdays afternoon to Saturday nights.
The bumpers tho were the best.
The city era is when I started watching Disney and nick more
Born in 1996, both the Powerhouse and City Eras are the Golden Age eras for me and the two that I grew up on. The 2006 Yes era was what I see as the beginning of the downfall.
Amen
@@murrayvation But to be fair, the Check It era of summer 2010- 2014 was the third best era hands down. The Renaissance or Bronze Age. The Powerhouse and CN City eras are in the S Tier while the Check It is in the A+.
Star Wars the Clone Wars always brought me back though lol
Powerhouse is the best CN era because it's fun, creative, and uncontrollably chaotic, like a cartoon should be.
Throwing both the classic and new shows into the blender makes for something special, not to mention being built off of the iconic Raymond Scott Powerhouse theme used in classic Warner Bros cartoons
(of course all this before 2003, which those updates kinda ruined them)
They sterilized the Powerhouse in 2003 because they were doing some under the hood changes to prepare for CN City such as Fridays, Miguzi, etc. The new logo in 2004 was a last minute idea from what I remember.
I thank my lucky stars to experience the Powerhouse era as a kid. Sure, I watched Nickelodeon, One Saturday Morning, Fox Kids, Kids WB, etc. But, Cartoon Network back in my day was my anchor.
9:28 I'm so glad I'm not the only one who made that connection.
92 kid here. Every single second of this is my childhood... am grateful to have lived in this era!
I can never get enough out of this and CN City. Such 2 awesome and creative concepts with loads of possibilities. I just love the wackiness of these bumpers.
I was born in 2004 so I watched these on RUclips, not to say Noods and Check IT were bad.
It gave us Cartoon Cartoon Fridays and it was when Toonami hit it's peak with Sailor Moon, DBZ, Reboot, Gundam Wing, and so on.
Excellent video, and excellent job Murray! This is the era when I started watching Cartoon Network, which is why I have the most nostalgia for this era. I started watching Cartoon Network midway thru this era, so around 2000 or 2001.
I think the Powerhouse era was the best era, because the most iconic shows & Cartoon Cartoons in CN's history debuted during this era, on top of that, Toonami along with the anime became big during this time (like Dragon Ball Z or Sailor Moon), while reruns of old Hanna-Barbera and Warner Bros cartoons were still airing on at the same time.
So you had a mix of everything old & new during the Powerhouse era. During my early elementary school years, I couldn't get into live-action sitcoms yet cuz it was too much for my little brain to comprehend, but anything animated or cartoony caught my attention, so I would switch between Cartoon Network or Toon Disney thru-out the early 00's (which is now 20 years ago).
Where you born in 1996 as well? I was born in October 1996 and I first started watching Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon in the summer of 1999. These are how I rate the eras:
*Checkerboard (1992-1996)= (B-) This era was a prototype for Boomerang. The Stone Age. Nickelodeon was the king in the 1990s for a reason. Still had Dexter towards the end though.
*Starburst (1997)= (B+) The real Iron Age era. This year was when the real roots of CN began. Forgotten
*Powerhouse (1998- spring 2004)= (S+) One of the two most famous eras. We already know why this era is the best of all so I won't talk about it.
*CN City (summer 2004- spring 2006)= (S-) The only era that is on the S tier alongside the Powerhouse. Had the best bumpers hands down. Kids Next Door, Billy and Mandy, and many of the other late cartoons from the end of the Powerhouse era peaked here. Had Miguzi. Many people who say that Cartoon Network died here are crazy and wrong. CN City rocks and 2005 will always be the last golden year of the Classic Age.
*Yes Era(summer 2006-spring 2007)= (F-) The real era that began the downfall of Cartoon Network. The bumpers were so lazy. Cartoons sucked such as Squirrel Boy. Fosters Home and Billy and Mandy started to suck. Johnny Bravo and other classics stopped airing. The movie for Out of Jimmy's Head. This era was basically a water down inferior version of CN City and the main reason why many wrongfully blame CN City. But the two are vastly different. The one I hate the most.
*Summer of 2007= (D+) The first era to not have Cartoon Cartoon Fridays. Epic fail. George of the Jungle. However its the last era to show the remaining Powerhouse era shows such as Kids Next Door.
*Fall 2007= (D-) Where the majority of 90s babies agree that the official Dark Age began. The Rock and Roll song from the Hives was still a banger though.
*Noods (summer 2008-spring 2010)= (C+) At one point this was my most hated era. However, looking back, I know see that the 2006 Yes and the eras from 2007 are much, much worse. You had Chowder, Ben 10, Flapjack, Total Drama, and Star Wars. The Ed Edd N Eddy, Kids Next Door, and Billy and Mandy final movies was allowed too. But 2009 will always be the most disgusting year in CN history from that live action stuff.
*Check It 1 and 2 ( summer 2010- 2014)= (A+) The Renaissance or Bronze Age. The third best era hands down. Let down by boring bumpers and trash shows such as Level Up, Annoying Orange and the Problem Solverz. Not S tier though
*Check It 3-4 (2015-2019)= (D- ) The reboot era.
I pretty much stopped watching Cartoon Network around 2012-2013. For me 1998-2005 will always be the Golden Age years and Cartoon Network at its best.
It was a fantastic era and had so much energy
Now the network is a shell of its former self
You did a good job on this man
Born in 97, so I vaguely remember the Powerhouse Era. But it's one of my favorites along with the CN city era.
Just found your channel dawg. Take your time to keep the good content coming 👍
Yes sir🙏🏾I appreciate it.
The years of 2000-2010 were basically by far the best eras for many cartoon shows of Cartoon Network rising regarding their peakness and popularity as we grew up with them during our nostalgic childhood memories that marked our nostalgia back in the good old days.
I liked the powerhouse era. I think it’s one of the best and the greatest of Cartoon Network.
I feel kinda old and nostalgic watching this video and reminds me of nice moments of nostalgic childhood memories that we grew up with these wonderful memorable to iconic jams of masterpiece cartoon shows. Love your video review and you nailed it the informations perfectly.
2000s greatest and memorable cartoon show jams of Cartoon Network that ruled and ran the golden to iconic eras will always have a special place in everyone hearts for nostalgic childhood memories that we grew up with them are: Ed Edd N Eddy, Samurai Jack, Codename Kids Next Door, Teen Titans, The Grims Adventure Of Billy and Mandy, Xiaolin Showdown, Hi Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, Mega XLR, Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends, 16Teen, Robotboy, Camp Lazlo, Classic Ben 10, My Gym's Partner Is A Monkey, The Life And Times Of Juniper Lee, Class of 3000, The Squirell Boy, Chowder, Flapjack, Total Drama Island, Secrets Sathurdays, Batman The Brave And The Bold, Ben 10 Ultimate Alien & Alien Force and Johnny Test.
If they used red powerhouse bumpers, they could've been for weekends.
CN City may have great bumpers, but Powerhouse was much more creative.
Powerhouse is my second favorite Cartoon Network era (after CN City).
@1:08 yo I have that same Pokémon blanket growing up and still have it to this day
Something that I Love of the Powerhouse Era was that almost Every Cartoon Network shows had their own Commercial Break and Back personal bumpers, even if they were Not from Hanna-Barbera, Warner Bros or Cartoon Cartoons.
I wonder how would look the animation in the Powerhouse Era bumpers for shows like Superman TAS, the New Superman Adventures, Krypto the Super-Dog, Charlie Brown & Snoopy, Jumanji, Jackie Chan Adventures, The Real Ghostbusters, Slimer & the Ghostbusters, Extreme Ghostbusters, X-MEN Evolution, Dragon Flyz, Extreme Dinosaurs, The Spectacular Spider-Man, Fantastic 4, even The Simpsons (that only were aired in the Phillipines CN) or even other non-related CN shows like King of the Hill, Daria, Street Sharks, Sky Surfers, Sky Dancers, Gargoyles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Biker Mice from Mars, Bobby's World, Casper or Peter Pan & the Pirates; I think there would been Great vignettes and bumpers.
to me 2006-2010 was the dark ages of cartoon network and i call 2010-now the intelligence era, where atmosphere, character, and story are the focus over fun and comedy (with some exceptions such as TTG).
99's baby here, I was born when I grew up watching powerhouse, city, yes, check it eras from my time. Powerhouse is my favorite by heart, but I still loved any kind of era from cn and I'll always love it in my heart.
It's also worth noting that Raymond Scott's Powerhouse was used in a lot of the old Looney Tunes shorts, which probably influenced the choice to use it for this era
No wonder the looney tunes bumpers feel so natural with the music!
To me this is my #1 favorite era (the city being the #2) . If you think about, without the powerhouse era there wouldn’t be a city era! Being born in 95’ and watching CN since 99/98 to me the city era (specially the early city era 04-mid 2005) was in a way a mild continuation of the powerhouse era
Oreo from commercials ( same from cartoon network logo)
Subbing so I don’t miss the CN City retrospective.
cant wait to see cn city videos and maybe nick videos in the future.

Please can you upload next time some other video reviews about other eras of cartoon shows from Cartoon Network like: Noods, Check it era & Redraw your world eras.
omg yes plz comment on all of this, i remember those eras so much XD
also wouldn't mind it to go more in depth :D
I got you :)
I can't believe I just realized this:
Yellow = Morning
Green = Afternoon
Blue = Evening
There's a method to the madness lol
I think people would actually prefer if Cartoon Network went back to this type of schedule. Original shows mixed with classic cartoon reruns and anime/actions cartoons are prevalent. If you are a millennial born in the early nineties this is the era. CN City was a downgrade.
