  • With 620PS, the performance figures of the new Audi R8 V10 speak for themselves, however what is the driving and ownership experience like ?
    Thanks to Audi UK I spent a week with one to find out. It is certainly and supercar you could use every day but does it have that something special a supercar should have ?!

    It is awesome to see you getting the supercars given to you for a bit of time. The content you produce is very good and it is good to see it rewarded with proper cars. Keep it up.

    Hi Pete, last weekend i drove the Ferrari 458 and McLaren MP4 12c on track here in the UK, it was my first time driving any supercar at the age of 44, whilst I really enjoyed it and was left speechless at the end by the amount of power, after returning home I drove my MX5 ND around my local country lanes and had a blast thrashing every gear, I couldn't have done the same in a supercar, probably would still want a supercar in the garage if money was no object though. Great review as usual. Paul.

    • @PetrolPed

      Yep, that is the big problem with them. Congrats on popping you supercar cherry 👍

  • @johns14a
    @johns14a 5 лет назад +3

    Yet another entertaining and thorough review. The V10 sounds amazing but the problem with all supercars is you just can't use them anywhere near properly on the public road, as you rightly say. Also if I'd spent £170k on a car, I'd think really hard before doing anything heroic on a track, as well.
    That said, there's a guy in my town who has one and thinks the town centre, on a Saturday afternoon, is the perfect place to explore all that potential...

    I think you hit the nail on the head. Most modern cars have too much power to legally exploit. For example my automatic Astra only needs 3 gears to get to 70, but it has 6. So at 70mph it is doing 2,000 rpm! Driven sensibly it is it will drop in to 5th at 40 mph. If I’m honest though, personally my driving style is suited to this set up.

    Very articulate and incisive review. I’ve had two R8s and currently daily a TTRS. The absence of drama and unpredictability is part of the appeal. Having had lots of cars over the years, I would suggest the “passion and soul” that most people crave is really just for the uninitiated. As an owner, you just want something that works.

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for this David. I think the TT RS gives you very nearly supercar performance and is definitely a car for every day 👍

    • @davidwan247
      @davidwan247 5 лет назад

      Petrol Ped, very true. A car like a TTRS (or a Cayman GTS, etc) is more fun at 7/10s than a much faster car at 3/10s, at least on public roads where you still need to have some respect for the law. But of course there are some who really just want to impress people with their possessions.

    Hello thanks for your video. I owe the rear wheel drive version for about 10 months now. The car is indeed very useful both as a daily driver and on a circuit. I drive it only for fun and on circuits
    in Florida. The public road here hardly have any corners so that forces you to go to track lol.
    Reliable , fast enough with 540 horses and lighter than the all wheel drive.
    Highly recommended only real competitor is Porsche maybe the Aston Martin Vantage V 8, more extreme is McLaren ,Lamborghini or Ferrari etc.

    Interesting point about being unable to use 100% of a supercar's power here on UK roads. Begs the question whether a sports car like the Cayman represents all the car you could ever need here in Britain while still being daily-drivable. Less power = more fun perhaps? Great video as usual :)

    It's funny, but I'm not a big fan of carbon fibre inlays around the cabin. But in this Audi, they really do look nice. But then the car's damn nice too. And with a proper spoiler on the back. No ducktail.
    As soon as you said that you couldn't think of a car as capable as this as an everyday driver, the one car that immediately came to mind was the 911 Turbo/Turbo S. And you confirmed that later on in the video.
    If I was ever lucky enough to afford a "supercar" (Doubtful!), the one thing I do know is I'd want one with 4WD. That's a definite. But quite which one to go for, I'm still not sure. R8? 911? I'd even put the Mercedes-AMG GT4 63 4-Door Coupé into this bracket due to power, performance and price.
    One thing I do know, it I'll bloody well have great fun finding out the right one(s)* for me :-))...

Audi going the Lamborghini route regarding sales, little care for their existing customers, let’s focus on those with loads of money who won’t give a monkeys what it’s like before paying and then px it in a matter of months.

      Lol stingray seems cheap but by the time you add the necessary stuff and 8 port taxes in UK it’ll be near £100k. And the. There’s the build quality of the stingray which is leagues behind Audi.

    Certainly a nice car, but there are others that are nicer, and just as of today, I've fallen for the Porsche Boxster Spyder. It is also more practical, convertible and a little more handy. Not least is it so much cheaper. Can buy an Audi S4TDI as well.

    Too sensible to be a balls out supercar - not sensible enough to be a daily ... I'd have a 911 turbo as a daily (even though the turbos maybe not my favourite 911) very practical car, or even TT RS - and if I wanted a toy - I'd go crazy 2 seat convertible with a decent boot you could go away in - what's the point of a car, if you can't use it ....
    Still think you don't need much more than 300bhp really ...

    Interior looks very very similar to an Audi TT-RS... And those are ballistically fast as well so most of the time I doubt you could tell you'd spent the extra £100K. Lovely car but pretty much pointless on the public road, and too expensive to take on a track and thrash properly.
